    They actually did re-release TMNT 87 Volume Two as Season Two. Same art, but now it's called simply Season Two. Plus you can get Season 7 as one set.
    EDIT: They also re-released Season 5 in a regular sized DVD case. Not sure about Season 4.

      Didn't know about the Season 2 set! That's a good reissue. I knew about the Season 7 set but it hit right after I went out and got the volumes which annoyed me a bit xD.
      I want to think I saw a Season 4 set that was just the DVD case and not the weird slipcover but I'm not sure

    TMNT was done by Lionsgate? That makes so much sense about the Power Rangers releases by them now…

    Wanna know how we got the 2003 TMNT show over here? 42 volumes...42!! And it wasn't even the ENTIRE show. Volumes 1-33 covered seasons 1-4 (104 episodes). Then 34-42 were "Fast Forward" (another 26 episodes). And we never got the "Ninja Tribunal" season, nor "Back to the Sewers". Eventually, years later, the same company put out 8 "Special Editions" that had 13 episodes each. And while the packaging was great and the spines connected to form a picture, each of these volumes was...1 disc only. So the picture quality suffered, compared to the individual volumes and, on top of that, they removed the original English audio tracks and only kept the dub. After that, they decide to do "Special Editions" of Fast Forward...and instead of doing just 2, they decided to split it in sets...and the final one never came out...aat least the numbering was consistent :D
    "Transformers: Armada" was a similar story - 15 volumes. Same goes for a lot of other shows. When "Batman: The Animated Series" started coming out, instead of boxsets, we got each disc separately. So yo'u'd buy "Volume 1, Disc 1", etc, all with the same cover art...and we only got the first 8 out of 16 discs...

      That's wild! What a crazy release of TMNT 2003. Having that many volumes and it not being complete is wild.
      Single disc volumes sounds like a shelf space nightmare

      @@Soundout12 For TMNT in particular, they also did a "newsstand edition" for the first 33 volumes - these came in cardboard sleeves instead of cases and were only available on newspaper stands for a discount price with a new one coming out every week.

    15:15 yes that was a trainwreck similar to the old TMNT 2003 sets with 4kids FUNimation sets and many older anime back in the day 😅😅😅 prior to the Funimation viz media Sentai filmworks etc starting the season 1 sets with 13 episodes to make it simpler for newcomers and long time watchers ! Yes very monotonous

    28:12 speaking of dragon ball super, Walmart started re releasing them in double sets ( with Crunchyroll logo but more or less the same contents as old FUNimationNow sets ) during last year and thus year but better than hunting down vol sets😅😅😅

    Thinking of it, I go half-and-half over which shows I collect in volumes over full sets. Like I have the 4 seasons of Heroes on DVD, but I have Chuck on a complete series DVD set (was a more recent Walmart buy) but I'd been meaning to collect the series at one point, anyway. I have the Flash seasons on DVD, etc. But stuff like anime, barring shonen, has mostly been one-and-done season sets. FMA Brotherhood is the odd one out, I collected those as volumes. Same with Pokemon, just collected the season sets.

    • @Soundout12

      I definitely am like that too. The further I got into this video the more I realized my collection is a mess 🤣. Ah well. I do it with comic books too

    You think seven years in between the second-to-last and final volume is bad? How about ELEVEN?
    The original DuckTales received three volume DVD sets, once a year between 2005 and 2007, with its theatrical movie hitting DVD in between all those volumes in 2006. However, a fourth volume, containing the show’s final episodes, never came out on DVD until 2018. And to add insult to injury, that last volume was made exclusive to the Disney Movie Club. Oh, and if you bought the original releases of Volumes 1-3, Volume 4 wouldn’t match packaging-wise because it came in a case while the prior volumes were previously released in slimcase box sets, though Disney would reprint the earlier volumes in cases like the one used for Volume 4 in 2013.

      Something similar happened to Gargoyles where there was years between Season 2, Volume 1 and Season 2, Volume 2 and S2V2 was Disney Movie Club. But worse than that, Season 3 was never released

    Speaking on the size of Anime sets VS back then and today, I used to collect the old Funimation DBZ VHS and DVD (well, I had a few complete saga sets, but nothing too huge) I remember having the Perfect Cell set and Babidi sets on VHS, Kid Buu on DVD, a few Cell games DVD volumes, it was a mess lol Now I just have the DB "Blue Bricks", the DBZ Dragon Box sets, the "Green Brick" GT set, the slim packs of the movies, and all of Kai. It's a lot, but it's still a whole hell of a lot more concise than it was back then.
    Then I decided the hell with space and decided to buy the entire Bleach DVD series, well the first 5 "season sets" then the rest of the volumes, but still. Didn't really like the idea of set 7 onwards or whereever having crappier quality than the rest, and I got one hell of a deal on a majority of the anime plus the first 50 manga volumes, so can't complain.

    • @Soundout12
      @Soundout12  3 роки тому +2

      Oh yea. It was nuts back in the day when a show that was several hundred episodes was getting put out 3-5 episodes at a time. Madness. Definitely like the brick sets more
      Oh yea thats a good deal.

    Most of the time I just buy the seasons as they release but I have gotten a few complete sets of DVD/Blu Rays. The only show I bought the individual seasons and eventually a whole series set is Batman The Animated Series. With that show the individual seasons were DVD while the whole complete series is Blu Ray.

    • @Soundout12
      @Soundout12  3 роки тому +3

      Same here! I didn’t have time to discuss it in the video, but I’ll usually rebuy a show when its an upgrade like that. I did it for Justice League; Unlimited and Batman Beyond as well.
      I sort of mentioned it with Star Trek Enterprise since I had the dvd’s prior to the blu ray

    The worst part about the 2012 TMNT volumes was that while the 2003 show had that format for Seasons 1, 2 and 6 of doing two releases containing two discs since it's four discs across one season, and even though that seemed pretty sweet and consistent....that didn't even to be done because there was one PAL release containing all four discs covering Season 1 of 2012! The TMNT is cursed with the worst DVD releases, they can't even do it like the Simpsons DVDs where there isn't any volume bullshit, just complete series sets.

    When it comes to anime, I prefer complete sets but that doesn't mean I won't buy part sets. However, I refuse to touch series like One Piece simply because of the fact they're too long and it would take a lot of money. It's also the reason I didn't touch Dragon Ball Super until the complete set was announced since I didn't have room to store all the parts.
