Today, Max will be discussing the terrifying game over screen that almost made its way into the first installment in the Mario brother's mansion series: Luigi's Mansion! He wasn't dead. He was depressed because he couldn't save Mario.
In the original build , you had a time limit to save him. That idea was later scrapped.
@@URFTBOUND4LIFEno, that’s false. This “game over screen” was never supposed to be a game over screen and none of that is true. It was only used for that trailer and that’s it. The time limit was only for the beta so people could get time to play the game
@@sahaprocks7751 My point still stands that Luigi's expression isn't of him being dead. His face is a classic anime/manga emoticon usually reserved for someone being mortified over something terrible.
Had Luigi actually died, it would make more sense for him to resemble the portrait ghosts instead.

I believe in the beta they planned on making there be a time limit to complete the game. Time passed, and once it got to like 6 am or something if you hadn’t won yet it was game over.

No the time limit was only for the beta. Not meant for the final game. This game over screen wasn’t even supposed to be a game to be a game over screen at all. Only for the trailers
Yep you're on the right track. It was going to have a 24 real life hour time limit. Obviously when you save and quit the time would freeze though. Learned about that from chuggaaconroys let's play years ago.

I actually saw the beta game over screen on UA-cam when I was younger and it legit gave me nightmares for months. Nowadays I don’t find it scary but it TRAUMATIZED little me big time lol.

It wasn’t a game over screen, it was custom materiel made for the trailer at E3, there was no intent of putting it in the final game

Well originally the game was gonna be much more darker so maybe it could've been a game over screen but we're not sure
This clip was never meant to be part of the Game Over screen. It was simply made for the E3 Trailer to entice players to play the game.

It's not a game over it's was only to hype up the game. But with the backstorys of the portrait ghosts and Nintendo said that "a portrait ghost is hunting you for you to become part of his collection" Nintendo themselves said "the hunter" was never in the game and it was a joke but if it was real and the game over came with that it would be morbid, and different context of your fate if you ran out of health, And we will get a very different age rating 😬

The “game over screen” was not actually planned for the game. Luigi’s mansion is a game not meant for the normal target demographic of the other Mario games. So Nintendo put that in to appeal to “older audiences” at the time. But in the later games in the Luigi’s mansion series it became More targeted at a younger demographic.

Luigi's mansion was originally supposed to be a time-based game where if you don't save Mario in a certain amount of time, you get a game over and that screen pops up. But the idea was scrapped.
I think that if you failed to save Mario in time, King Boo ends up killing him and Luigi leaves the mansion depressed and that's why he looks like that in the game over screen. Either that, or he gets possessed by the ghosts.
When I first played Luigi’s mansion, I actually thought that that was the game over screen lol🤣

I kind of like the scarier game over screen. It doesn't look that bad compared to other game over screens.

I liked how this game didnt have lives. I never understood the life system in mario games with save points. Like in sunshine, if i died too many times, before i would game over, i would always restart the game, and load the save. With this, you die, you gameover, and you're forced to load where you were.

That was never actually a game over screen because not only is not in the file’s of the game but all footage of the beta of Luigi’s Mansion when a player dies it just says Good Night and takes you to the main screen. That clip you watch actually is just the end of the E3 2001 Luigi’s Mansion trailer it was simply just to lure people into buying the game.
Im lucky i didn’t play that game cause i would have died eventually. I remember playing breath of the wild when i was younger and i ran to the otherside of the house when i failed flower shrine.

This is not true a lot of people say it was a beta game over screen, but actually it was just part of one of Nintendo’s showcases of the game

I am just wondering as I have needed help on this for a while, I have a Luigi’s mansion game but it says available for rental, it also says this on the disc, I know that rental GameCube games are very rare so I’m not sure if it is or not pls can I have some help. The game runs completely normally btw.
