  • **This is a Work In Progress Project**
    Introducing the world’s cheapest NVR that has h265 decoding capabilities!
    It costs only £14 and its fully open source!🤯
    OpenIPC FPV is the cheapest digital FPV system in the world!
    If you want please join my channel to get access to exclusive posts and updates:
    / @mariofpv
    Read more here: openipc.org/
    You will find everything you need to start your own project!🎉
    We now have the first VENC firmware for gk7205v200, v210 and v300 cameras.
    The release supports h265/h264 encoding and decoding.
    We have also added MAVLINK OSD in the VDEC.
    More information: github.com/OpenIPC/silicon_re...
    You will need this command to update from the fpv to venc version:
    sed -i 's/BUILD_OPTION=fpv/BUILD_OPTION=venc/' /etc/os-release
    And then type:
    sysupgrade -r -k -n --force_ver
    STL files to 3D print the NVR case:
    drive.google.com/file/d/1jOwv...
    The hardware (Air Unit + Ground Station) costs less than 50$ (all included) and can be found EVERYWHERE.
    More supported cameras will be added with functions such as motorised optical zoom, IRCUT and latency as low as 30ms. It supports MAVLINK1 or MAVLINK2 bidirectional telemetry which makes it a complete solution for a quadcopter or fixed wing/VTOL. It also has WFB-ng link preinstalled and this means it has serious long range capabilities.
    More information about the OpenIPC project will be in following videos so make sure you subscribe to not miss them!❤️

While the present video format is very helpful, could you transform it into an article or perhaps create a UA-cam playlist that implements this step by step? Amazing stuff. I love seeing updates from your channel as tese opensource HD FPV technilogies progress.
    A couple of questions I have been curious about for a long time now:
    1. What is the latency of this system at this stage?
    2. Have you tried reaching out to the channels with huge subscriber bases like Mad's Tech (Ian) or Joshua Bardwell?I bet they could help spread the word very fast and get yourself and the developers some added attention/support.
    3. How can we (the FPV community) better support the OpenIPC developers directly?

    • @hanelyp1
      @hanelyp1 9 місяців тому +1

      A second on the latency question. My impression is H.265 isn't designed for the ultra low latency you want as a pilot.

    • @DavidTaghehchian
      @DavidTaghehchian 9 місяців тому

      @@hanelyp1 I've also wondered that. From what I've read/seen, it's because h.265 is slower for unpacking (more compression than H.264), but can the transmissions efficiency gains balance out the glass to glass results of each one?

    Since encoding and decoding is quick and cheap now, what about the data transmission? The Wi-Fi module you showed in previous videos looks very clunky and low performing, although I am not certified to judge that. I would in general be interested to learn more about how the signal is transmitted to the VRX, since that part still isn't entirely obvious to me after looking more into the project. Also, I am absolutely going to build this, but might wait a little until it's more refined.

      Yes the camera is going to get smaller. There are already Chinese vendors that are working on it. With the 120fps camera we can safely confirm that there will be no problem with freestyle flights. I tested it and I couldn’t feel the latency at all. I’m not a pro freestyler, I can do a few flips and rolls and low ground ripping but that’s as far my skills go.😅

    i think you guys are reaching the point where openIPC is going to gain greater momentum with so many barriers for entry removed , its going to be easier to get more people involved . Thank you for all your hard work and the reliable updates its been fantastic to see all these developments and while i generally stick to sub 3 inch fpv quad my first 3 inch quad will hopefully utalize openIPC , loking forward to the latency results from the 120fps camera
    P.S do you source the IP camera modules from aliexpress , ive only ever seen modules being sold on that site , it seems very difficult to source the components locally (within the UK) and is it possible to find smaller IP camera's ? or is this as small as they get ?, i have alot of sub 3 inch quads so i wanted to see if i could setup an openIPC fpv system in one but so far finding a wifi camera with h265 encodeing in the size i would require seems impossible

    Needs higher bitrate to look better than regular analog and a proper MIMO solution for signal penetration. Analog at higher resolutions also exists but since they''re proprietary, nobody is looking into it either. Since hisilicon can output 720 and 2k, I''d rather have good lower resolution with higher perceivable image quality (less artifacting) combined with minimum latency for flying and write the higher resolution to a card as DVR. 720 only takes 1/4 of the bandwidth of the 1080, you could mimo the data like DJI does so it maximizes the datarate when signal is good and at bad signal conditions it focuses sending less data but more powerful signal by combining the antennas.

    • @mjodr
      @mjodr 9 місяців тому

      7mbps h265 is pretty good. Keep in mind this was re-compressed with h264 at an unknown bitrate on his DVR as mentioned in the video, then edited in video editing software so re-compressed again into an unknown format and bitrate, then UA-cam has done even more re-compression at low bitrate VP9 on their back end server before you even get to watch the video. I suspect the original feed looks pretty good (and that's what he said in a subtitle).

    • @pirateradioFPV
      @pirateradioFPV 9 місяців тому +1

      @@mjodr I'll believe it when I see it. Even my DVR looks better and that's the same, compressed just one less time but from about VGA resolution worth of data whereas this supposed to be FHD. So the compression excuse doesn't fly very well for the lack image quality. If you want people on board, you need to show them something they want 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @mjodr
      @mjodr 9 місяців тому

      @@pirateradioFPV It's possibly he really degraded it in one of the re-compression steps. When I capture, edit and deliver video to UA-cam I'm trying my best to keep everything as nice as possible. I actually deliver to UA-cam in DNxHR so that the VMAF between capture and delivery is unaffected. Not everybody does this and it's really easy to turn something into a blocky mess with one wrong setting. I guess the only way you could check for yourself is to actually build this setup and look at it live.

    • @pirateradioFPV
      @pirateradioFPV 9 місяців тому

      @@mjodr I'd rather not as I've spent the day unsubbing from the FPV content as I'm done with the hobby. But go ahead and make it great, I hope nothing but good for the project. Elrs got adapted fast and considering how lo-fi HDzero is, it shouldn't be difficult to at least match its performance. I still do feel the code should do MIMO priority for the penetration but of that's adding complexity into the system and ain't nobody got time for that.

    If it's compatible with anything with an HDMI input, you could easily use a Meta Quest 2/3 headset. I know you can get a USB C to HDMI converter and then you sideload an apk for USB C camera input and boom. Someone tested it with a nintendo switch input to the headset. With that you get self contained goggles with a tonne of functionality (because it's just a good android device in there really) and crazy good quality. We're finally entering the golden age of HD FPV!

      This is a DIY project. We don’t sell anything as OpenIPC organisation. There are manufacturers that will start selling hardware soon. Currently they are working on their product. Stay tuned for the next video. I will post it soon. Cheers mate!😊🍻

    Do you have the stl file for the box of the vrx ?
    Do you think it's better to use pigtail ipx to SMA and then see for own antenna ?

      Yes I’ll upload them tomorrow and update the video description.
      I didn’t have the chance to test antennas and combinations. There are so many new things to test and no time. Cheers mate!😊🍻
