- **This is a Work In Progress Project**
Introducing the world’s cheapest 120fps digital FPV camera that has h265 encoding capabilities!
It costs only 25$ and it’s fully open source!🤯
If you want please join my channel to get access to exclusive posts and updates:
/ @mariofpv
It has two modes:
1. 1080p@90fps
2. 720p@120fps
This is the first dev version of this camera.
- Currently only h264 is working. We are working on h265.
- There is no DVR recording so I had to use an external very cheap HDMI recorder. Unfortunately my recorder has very poor video quality. In future releases we will have DVR recording
This is the step by step video tutorial of this camera.
The steps are the same for the gk7205v200/300-IMX307/355.
The only difference is that you need to choose the correct model on the OpenIPC website to generate the instructions for your camera specifically.
OpenIPC FPV is the cheapest digital FPV system in the world!
Read more here: openipc.org/
You will find everything you need to start your own project!🎉
The hardware for the starting kit (Air Unit + Ground Station) costs less than 50$ (all included) and can be found EVERYWHERE.
More supported cameras will be added with functions such as motorised optical zoom, IRCUT and latency as low as 30ms. It supports MAVLINK1 or MAVLINK2 bidirectional telemetry which makes it a complete solution for a quadcopter or fixed wing/VTOL. It also has WFB-ng link preinstalled and this means it has serious long range capabilities.
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for!
Pre-orders are now OPEN!
You might wanna hurry up because the first batch is only 100pcs.

This is really interesting, let me comment just to know that im here at this early stage! keep up the great work!
Cheers mate! 😊🍻
This is looking good! Wondering what the feed would look like when flying with obstacles or obstructions like under trees. I'm pretty sure the TX got enough power to penetrate through. Excited to see the project grow!
That was the maiden flight. Expect many more test flights in different conditions. I also messed up the majestic settings that’s why the video looks a bit oversaturated. Also when we have available the h265 and the DVR recording it will be a game changer. Stay tuned for the latest updates. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv Well, why stop there. AV1 😁
@@mariofpv video looks absolutely great imo, you might just leave the settings ar they are :)
your work is unbelievable. it looks like a parody video when someone puts electronics together and it starts to work even when it doesn't make sense. But you really are the one that is actually doing the real magic! :O the progress is extreme!
Cheers mate!😊🍻
love the work you guys do, this opens doors for so many guys struggling to join us in this hobby :)
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Thank you Mario! I picked up this SOC since it was compatible with OpenIPC but couldn't find the UART pads on any of the datasheets I came across. This video is EXACTLY what I needed :) Love the content and really liked the live stream you did last week!
Cheers mate!😊🍻
This is incredible, you are a genius!
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Definitely the start of something good! Thanks Mario for your dedication on this project.
Cheers mate!😊🍻
From video to video I see your progress parallel to the openipc progress. It is so exciting... I saw this video now and it looks so easy now that I'm after the 1st kit working... Great work Mario. Please keep you hard and useful work🎉
Thank you for the support. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Awesome!! I'll give this a try now.
This is the first dev version so expected many improvements. Stay tuned. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Thanks for the effort putting this together. It's amazing to see such good progress is being made.
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Definitely a massive improvement for DIY fpv!
Only miss few MP to the camera, possibility to set fixed exposure and white balance, a remote trigger and it would be perfect and super light for UAV mapping.
Amazing progress! Can’t wait to see how it evolves.
Subscribed 💪
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Wow great job!
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Was waiting for a video like this to try it out. Thanks for all the work on such a project.
Cheers mate!😊🍻
interesting stuff man. keep it up
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Love it, very nice
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Subscribed. love it.
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Amazing work, Im soo happy to have discovered your channel.
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Looking forward to the progress of OSD interface
Awesome work!. All we are missing is local recording now
We are currently working on DVR recorder for the VRX and h265 which is currently glitchy. This was the first dev version so many things will be improved in future updates. The best part is that we now have ultra low latency. Stay tuned for more information. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv awesome to hear that!. I'm preparing a test platform to play with this soon :)
2nd question. The vtx chip shown in video sees different than the one in link, but same as one from CurryKitten video. Is that the new recommendation. I note the heat sink added in the video. Thanks again for the incredible work.
Excellent !
Thank you for all the support my friend!🙏
This is fantastic, what I woul absolutely love to see is range tests.
Also, I know it's a bit off-topic, but I was wondering if you can record video on sd-card while transmitting video. And if so, what quality would that video be. I mean 8 MP is quite a bit, maybe it can be used to do some aerial photo- or videography. And if so, in could be a great alternative to mavics and stuff. What do you think?
Amazing!
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Thanks for developing this. I have ordered some parts from alliexpress, and will give it a try. I was wondering if the transmitter chip will get hot, and maybe need some small fan cooling. My walksnail avatar vtx gets extremely hot and requires cooling.
I am loving it
Thank you my friend!🙏
Neat for big projects
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Looking great , keep up the good work!!
Cheers mate!😊🍻
This is very cool. What are the other connectors for? Obviously I don't know much about the subject but I am very intrigued for various reasons (open source, very affordable, etc). Why are there like 75 other connectors on that board but you have to solder two very tiny little pads? Perhaps the next version of the board will make it easier? Will be watching your progress with a lot of interest, thank you for sharing!
Check out my latest post on the community section of my channel. There’s a surprise for you. Make sure you subscribe to receive all the latest news. Cheers mate!😊🍻
heard you on the LDO podcast. awesome project, i am very interested.
Sorry for my funny accent. Cheers mate!🙈🍻
Great work on the step by step. Is the rx tx labled on the camera
For the UART, no but you can just test the wires. If it doesn’t work then it’s the other one 😄. For the USB yes there are diagrams on the Wiki. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Thank you friend.
Cheers mate!😊🍻
very cool !
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Nice! , how about trying to use an external camera(or gopro) to take video of the video output screen 😊
Very cool 😎
Cheers mate!😊🍻
thats fantastic
Cheers mate!😊🍻
SUPER !!!
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Great work❣️ Thank you for sharing.
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Incredible that was the video I was waiting for! I will jump the step bite the hook and buy it !
Enjoy it and please ask any questions if you have. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Very potential project
Cheers mate!😊🍻
nice ... abraço do Brasil !!!
Cheers mate!😊🍻
For sure thia will be a game changer ❤❤ appreciate your hard work❤❤
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Hi MarioFPV, i saw you flashed lite version (8 Mb) of the openIPC uImage, does lite version comes with wfb-ng preinstalled in the Image ? Is there any difference chosing FPV version, and ultimate? Thanks :)
When I was recording this video there was no FPV version. But good news! You can now choose the FPV option and flash the FPV version!🎉
The Ultimate version is not for FPV. As I explained in the live on Thursday, OpenIPC is for many other applications. FPV is just one of them. So please flash the FPV firmware. I forgot to mention that this camera with the FPV firmware has 16MB, not 8MB, storage! Cheers mate!😊🍻
this very cool stuff. what is using to send vtx to gs? elrs airport? where can we track this project for h265 release?
We are using an open source project called WFB-ng. I have posted many videos that explain all the details regarding the WFB-ng. Have a look at my playlists. Cheers mate!😊🍻
That is awesome.
Is there any way that you can record the video feed to a sd card?
We are working on it. It will be available in future releases.Cheers mate!😊🍻
i've been following this project, i would also love to see a cheap gopro alternative project like this
Gopro HDMI out in to HDMI-to-CSI board, then in to the Tx :)
@@PiDsPagePrototypes i mean a high frame rate 4k camera built in to a format like a GoPro session with a recorder of some sort that also records gyro data for post editing, GoPro seems to be refusing to make a new session for us, I'm curious if it could be open sourced like these projects, that would be awesome, i currently use runcam5 Orange, but I'd love something with a better frame rate
@@DigitalCruzer Ahhh, yeah, the Session was one of thier best, and there were look-alikes in similar form factor that GoPro sued over, and then they ditched the Session! Something like that with the WiFi transmission would be very useful in many applications.
Hey, man! Is this the official channel to stay up to date with the project? I'm Brazilian and a lot interested in open source projects as it could level our access to higher fpv technology. By this moment, things that were already out of reach for most of Brazilians, just got worse and prices went 92% higher due to taxes (apart from the dollar that already has an exchange rate of at least 400%.).
I am kinda hopeful on hdzero projects for future, but your project sounds new to me.
Hope we can put this to test around here soon!
My best wishes of success to you and the team!
It’s really sad that the sellers in South America are adding extra money on the prices. Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do about it. There are future plans to have a USA based warehouse with plug-and-play OpenIPC kits. This will happen after we have perfect our firmware. As a member of OpenIPC dev team I try to share as much as I can the latest developments. If you want to help us grow please share this video anywhere you can. Stay tuned for more. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Thanks, mate! Yes, it's sad, although I think it would make us think outside of the box and begin to create projects within the country. The taxes and so are because of customs taxes. Projects like this give me some hope that people with knowledge can see it and get inspired. Let's hope for a bright technological and accessible future! Thanks for your service, mate! I'll share it
Good, we would need a million of those.
There will be smaller cameras with the same capabilities soon! Stay tuned. Cheers mate!😊🍻
The trees look much more lovely this time. Does this camera naturally have a saturated look?
Reminds me of Blood and Wine Witcher 3 expansion.
Oh and the nice finding the field game starts up again at 12:26 😆
I messed up the majestic settings. That’s why it looks oversaturated. These are just settings that can be easily improved. The most important thing is the low latency. It is absolutely amazing! Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv I'm really impressed with the latency. Can similar results be expected from popular Goke or Hisilicon chips? Is it just matter of the settings (fps and compression), or is it somehow hardware (SSC338Q) dependent?
@kgrzeg it’s the ssc338q SOC that has better performance. It’s a newer chip from Sigmastar. Also we have the Sony IMX415 sensor that can encode up to 144fps.
@@mariofpv Thanks, I will try it instead of Hi3516, seems to be forth it. Is there anything like PQTools for Sigmastar? I really was hoping for the ability to switch of the digital sharpening in the image processor.
looks nice. How much range can this system achieve?
The WFB-ng has 100km+ range with large patch antennas. Some pilots actually posted a video which I can’t share for legal reasons. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Your job to explain us is really awesome.
Thanks for that
Just a question may be it isn’t the right place but I try
I bought a 7205v300 but i have no usb Data + and usb Data -
Is it an other pin to communicate with Wifi adaptor?
If your camera doesn’t have a USB interface I’m afraid there’s no way you can add. Unfortunately, some cameras have 2 UART ports but 0 USB. You could use an extra NanoPi for the WFB-ng and use the 7205v300 as an IP camera. It’s an extra step and maybe you will have higher latency so I wouldn’t recommend it. You just need a camera with 1 UART and 1 USB. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@fredericgrund1207 I also uses gk7205v300 + IMX335 module, I flashed openIPC into it . [For this model, i succeeded using 8MB NOR FPV openIPC fimware, however the 16MB nor FPV firmware didn't success due to unknown boot sector.]
If you go through your gk7205v300 hardware specs, you can find the D+, D- , GND, at the flat panel connector (aka Ribbon cable)
Super genius
Cheers mate!😊🍻
This looks great, thanks for your hard work. WIll you be doing a latency test of this system, so we can see where it currently is?
Please watch again the video until the end. There is a latency test that you missed it. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Hey, Mario, could you please leave your text on the screen a bit longer in future videos? There's barely enough time to read some of the longer lines, especially when you're focused on the subject of the video (the camera board, in this case).
Btw, I noticed the lens needs to be connected to the camera board with a cable. What's that for? Is that the 3.6-10mm motorised zoom lens?
The cable is the motorised IRCUT filter. Actually I will start talking now that I got used to it after my last live video. I think this will help everyone understand more details. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Hi Mario, thank you for the video. What is the wifi adapter you are using in this video?
It’s an rtl8812au module that I bought years ago from Aliexpress. Cheers mate!😊🍻
a.aliexpress.com/_EyhBFSr
@@mariofpv thank you. Also, what is the size of the lens you chose 2.8mm, 3.6mm or 6.0mm ?
Thanks for your awesome work!
Tell me please, your link to wifi adapter leads to AR9271 with 1 antenna socket. Why? I thought rtl8212au with 2 antennas needed?
You can use any compatible WiFi adapter. There are so many options rtl8812au or ar9271. Choose any you like. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv where can I find a list of compatible devices? And which is better? And how much better? Thanks for your fast response!
@@mariofpvhave the same question with @darksharkFPV, where i can find a list of compatible adapter?
Amazing, thank god we have people like you.
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Digital Transmitter with CSI-2 input,... interesting. Does it transmit Audio? If it's compatible with HDMI-to-CSI-2 boards, the potential for budget priced digital links for camcorders, such as local sports live streams,... might have to buy and test :)
Also, as CSI-2, this all should also work with the Raspberry Pi High Quality Camera, meaning C/CS lens mount, which can be adapted to DSLR lenses.
Hi Mario, great work, thanks. One question. How you control IRCUT on SSC338Q+IMX415? In my case it is always off and I have got weird colors in a natural day light. Can you please help with switching ON/OFF IRCUT? Thanks.
Please search for the answer in our Telegram channel. It’s just a setting. We have discussed this 2 months ago. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv Huge thanks, solved! :)
@shatpav1 barbie! 🤣
Barbie!🤣
It will be amazing if a manufacturer starts making hardware dedicated to this
They have already started. Join the Facebook group to see the first photos! Cheers mate!😊🍻
great video mate , thanks a lot. i am new to fpv and i was considering going digital but due to the cost that wasn't a real option . now seeing this video i think there is hope for digital budget build really appreciate the hard work , keep up . just a question ; does the camera from Taobao comes with the lens ? if not how can i get it ? thnaks in advance.
I had a spare lens from another camera but I know they are sold with lens. You can also buy them separately. This project is exactly for people like you that don’t want to spend a lot of money to have a digital FPV system with high quality and low latency. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Super cool! Am I mistaken, or is that camera slightly better focused on the motors/props than the objects that are at a distance?
The only issues on the video feed are two: it’s h264 and it’s from a cheap external HDMI recorder.
We are working on adding h265 decoding and DVR recording on the VRX(NVR). If I used a laptop for ground station I would have perfect h265 720p@120fps or 1080p@90fps DVR recording. Cheers mate!😊🍻
This Open IPC hardware looks big for FPV frames and what does it weigh compared to the VTX an Camera’s for FPV? 🙏
We are developing a 20x20 stack OpenIPC hardware that we are planning to start selling it soon. It is based on this camera that you see on the video. Stay tuned for the video review. We have already released some photos on the Community section of this UA-cam channel. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Is this being streamed to a laptop while you fly or phone?
We have an VRX that we call it NVR. Check it out on this video: ua-cam.com/video/wZAHkWHfBF4/v-deo.htmlsi=8Y3l8UIvWLMpt5xS
You can also use laptop or android device. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Video looks awesome! No interference, not even a glimps of fuzziness.
So what type of goggles did you use, that could have something to do on why the picture’s so clear.
Thank you mate. Actually the video in my goggle is much clearer. What you see in this video is from an external HDMI recorder. In future releases we will have DVR recording and h265 directly on the VRX(NVR). Stay tuned for the updates. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Hello! Do you think it is possible that OpenIPC can be set up coexisting with a traditional analog FPV system?
I would like to be able to preview what my GoPro records, remotely.
That is to say:
Analog Camera and VTX (rush tank at 5.8 Ghz)
Traditional ELRS RX (2.4 Ghz)
OpenIPC to transmit HDMI camera (also in 5.8 Ghz)
If the analog VTX and OpenIPC are both on 5.8 Ghz but different channels, can they be transmitted simultaneously with little interference?
Unfortunately no. The camera has a sensor on board and a SOC to encode the video stream. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Wow! Great project. Keep us updated
Do you plan to sell preconfigured hardware? Camera + transceiver, an all in one package? I think this would be a huge sell out
Yes we are but first we want to have something solid and stable to sell. It will also depends on the community’s demand. So far a lot of people showed interest. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Do you know how much latency i will have extra if i use a hdmi to analog converter because my fpv goggles have only analog input
Sorry I don’t know because my goggles have HDMI input. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Hello again 😁. Would you maybe be able to tell me where I can get these parts without using alliexpress or any of those Chinese manufactures because the shipping take like 2 months to where I live.
We will announce soon our online store links so stay tuned for more information about that. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Ive seen these cameras with a zoom feature. Will that be possible to use with a servo output?
Yes but they are quite expensive. Personally I am not willing to use them so maybe someone from the OpenIPC community can help you. Join our telegram channel and drop your questions, maybe someone has already done it. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpvI've never used telegram before. Is there a discord channel? I'm already in the Facebook group.
Have you noticed the price of these cameras have gone up since you posted this video? Lol
@chestergt7765 I know mate… the prices went double! I guess I’m an influencer. LOL
I don’t get any commission in case you were wondering.😊
The Wifi module looks very different from the one in the link
Could it be feasible to input a cinema camera signal in the TX through SDI or HDMI ?
No. There’s no input. Sorry mate.
@@mariofpv No but in future developpements I mean
Where did u get the camera module. A link would be greatly appreciated.
It’s in the video description. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv thanks
Is there plans for night vision camera?
Not at the moment. We are focused on low latency and high video quality. Cheers mate!😊🍻
30ms is from the tx to rx right? when i connect the vrx module to my googles it also add more latency?
That depends on the goggles or HDMI monitor you have. Every component matters. I’m thinking seriously to buy the HDZERO goggles and use them with OpenIPC. It would be an awesome combination. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv I've been flying HDZ for 3 years now and have been curious about these open source systems. I noticed the page you linked for the camera here doesn't actually let me do anything. Everywhere else I look this camera is over $40
I will say that the HDZ goggle is probably the best choice not just because of it's optimized input but because it has the rail mount on the front. Makes adding extra modules very easy.
Can IPCs that have been flashed be mass-produced through "CH341Aflash"?
I'm waiting for an open source standard to emerge so we can have the digital HD VTX/VRX equivalent of ExpressLRS. I think it's about time. Screw DJI and Walksnail
I have posted on Facebook group the first open source hardware that is designed based on the OpenIPC firmware. According to the manufacturer the components cost around 10$! He sent me one and I’m planning to use it on a 3” quadcopter. More hardware will be coming soon. We are taking back our hobby from those who just want our money. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv hell yeah
What happens when the video signal is about to lose, black screen or mosaic? Will the signal be quickly recover?
Mosaic.
Question, is the camera and module compatible with fat shark dom v2 goggles
Yes the VRX is compatible. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Where did you source the lens from?
Aliexpress. There are so many stores in various prices. Cheers mate!😊🍻
My SSC338Q board has just arrived from Ali Express and I've flashed Open IPC which was easy. The board is about 38 mm x 38mm for anyone wondering if it will fit in their quad frame.
Has anyone tested to see if the 12 BEC is needed for 3S LiPo (12.6 V fully charged, down to 9.6V or so when empty). Did you use a step-up / step-down (buck boost) BEC?
There’s a new smaller form factor SSC338Q IMX415 coming soon. It will have similar dimensions as the CADDX camera. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Is there no need to go through the process of setting up drone.key?
No. The link is encrypted and therefore you need to setup your private keys. Cheers mate!😊🍻
What about the latency? Did you measured it? Which device is the receiver?
Please watch the video again until the end. You missed the part where I do a quick glass to glass latency test. I used the NVR which is actually a limitation of the system because it can decode only 60fps. Another limitation was the cheap low performance 60Hz monitor that you will see on my test. But even with those “garbage” technological equipment I had some impressive results. Cheers mate!😊🍻
SSC338Q+IMX415 supports 720P@120FPS right? How about 3536DV100 support 720P@120FPS ???
Anything that brings an open HD system to the masses is a good thing.
This is not OpenHD. OpenIPC is a completely different system with much better performance in latency and video quality. We have 80 developers involved in this HUGE project. This is the project that will change the FPV forever. Cheers mate!😊🍻
What is the latency glass to glass? Is it comparable to something like the HDZero system?
Please watch again the video until the end where you will find the glass to glass latency test. You probably missed it. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv i thought the sub screen was the end . That's reasonable for this quality imo. I would love to see a lower latency for racing.
HDZero has a 540p 90fps super low latency system that most racers are using now. But great work! Can't wait to see progress!
@NickRO19 we don’t have any racers in our testers team. If you want to test our system please contact our head developer Igor. You can find him on ourTelegram for direct conversation. Please keep in mind that OpenIPC is not a hardware like HDZERO. We do not sell anything. OpenIPC is free. You need to buy a compatible hardware for your tastings. Cheers.😊
Still better than HD zero
We are not competing with anyone. We are not receiving any money from the fpv community like HDZERO, Walksnail or DJI is doing. We offer an open source, free to use, digital fpv system. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Great Video. But how do you buy from taobao ? because last time i checked you cant even buy things if you are outside China. what 3rd Party did you use. Also the Aliexpress link is not working for me :/
I used CSSBUY. Try this link: a.aliexpress.com/_EwzECcR
Cheers mate!😊🍻
is it possible to connect it to pixhawk or other flight controller that uses mavlink?
Yes of course. It’s compatible with Ardupilot. Cheers mate!😊🍻
So what modifications need to be done to the WIFI card to support this?
You will need 2 WiFi adapters that are compatible with OpenIPC. RTL8812au for example is one of them. You can’t just use any WiFi adapter. Cheers mate!😊🍻
what is the red board that has usb plugged to it ?
It’s called FTDI adapter.
The FTDI cable is a USB to Serial (TTL level) converter which allows for a simple way to connect TTL interface devices to USB.

Please help me download the hitool software link you are using
What VTX are you using ?
Please have a look at the video description. Cheers mate!😊🍻
what's an average cam to eye latency for your build?
Please watch the video again and make sure you reach to the end. There is a glass-to-glass latency test there. Cheers mate!😊🍻
This looks great! How is the latency? Is it noticeable?
There is a 120fps mode that has 35ms glass to glass latency in 720p resolution. There is also a 90fps 1080p mode with a bit higher latency. Some users posted 36ms latency on this mode. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv that sounds amazing! Thank you for your work
When things are ready Icd like to hire you to help me set this up as a stereo camera system accessible locally and/or remotely over wifi.
Hire me? Please send me an email and we can discuss it. Cheers!😊🍻
Where do I find your email?
@moses5407 MarioFPV@outlook.com It’s in my channel description.
I damaged the serial port pad. Is there any other way to burn the firmware?Otherwise,I have to buy another one.😭😭😭
Sorry about that. Please ask this question in the Telegram channel. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Will OpenIPC allow for encrypted FPV signal? How would this be implemented?
OpenIPC already has encrypted link. In fact you can’t disable it. It’s part of the WFB-ng latest link. Cheers mate!😊🍻
can you add UVC thermal cam to it? :)
I don’t know. Maybe on the USB camera but then you would need to run the “mini” (small gstreamer for OpenIPC) to create the video stream. Cheers mate!😊🍻
How do you stream video?
The OpenIPC has a build in app called majestic. There is also another option called venc. Cheers mate!😊🍻
博主大佬,我是想看看在openIPC系统中输入ifconfig命令,会出现什么网络硬件名称?您买的那个网卡是什么牌子的?
Type iwconfig. Cheers mate!😊🍻
