I ve discovered this ancient martial art by a workshop at Paris with Maxime Chouinard who is the lead instructor af Antrim Bataireacht style.
I lead a study and practice group in France (Dijon) and we 're 2 others groups on France, one on Switzerland and one at Dublin.
Ask us for more details about our practice (a little bit different from the Doyle style presented here)
Awesome, thanks for the info!
As you can likely tell from my voice, although my grandparents and some uncles and aunties are from Ireland, I am not so my pronunciation is somewhat off. Apologies for this but hope you understand. Thanks all!
Much love the Irish martial arts knowledge emigrated with its people, so there is probably more knowledge abroad than back home in Ireland.
Sword instruction from Irish masters has been found in Mexico and throughout the Americas. That knowledge would have been lost forever, without the children of emigrants.
Sounds like something similar has occurred with stick fighting.
All good man. The correct pronunciation is battar-rockt. Said no emphasis on any syllable. Battarockt. Technically with a soft cht as apposed to the hard ockt. But I don't know how to write that sound. I hope that helps. You should check out collar and elbow wrestling too if you like Irish martial arts. Great work though.
@@fiachoconnor Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video overall.
@@Edudivexo ah no, the video is great. Irish is a mental language! You did great.
Perfect! tried to look up Bo staff tutorials, all junk if you want to look pretty and spin a stick that's grea. But, this is the only actual practical combat stick fighting I've seen. I always loved the 36-in staff. I thought it was a bo staff. but apparently I created a sheilailey, I'm Irish so I guess I shouldn't be surprised
I am glad to see you found something helpful and practical to you, Bartitsu also has general practical approaches, potentially in need of update in some areas but they are meant for defence and attack not looking pretty.
Stick vs stick around the world. Would be interesting to watch a 'tournament' with all the various traditions competing with each other.
It would be very interesting. It feels like there must be one somewhere.
@@Edudivexo there is you can look up dog brothers gathering videos. I have represented Irish stick in them a number of times against various other styles.
Amazing thank you
Cool vid 😎
Thanks, glad you liked it.
Never heard of it , born an' bred in ireland
Well it is a very old system that has existed for several centuries. You will never hear of everything in your own country but it is far more active in Dublin these days.
@@Edudivexo and from what i hear they're gonna need it
Anyone who says carrying a stick for self defense is stupid hasn't seen this.
*cough* Icey Mike. *cough cough*
Icy Mike may prefer a hammer.
If you know how to wield a hurl, you can defeat an army...
Indeed
It's pronounced....bata...like the cotta in cottage. 😂
I did think that, but I'd never had an instructor correct me. I'll have to put a note.
