Depression is a mental illness that can be caused by a serious life event, low self esteem/self worth, a chemical imbalance in the brain, biological factors, environmental factors, personality traits, and substance and alcohol abuse, these factors can play a part for someone to develop a type of depression e.g dysthymia, clinical depression, post natal depression, bipolar disorder, atypical depression, mixed anxiety and depressive disorder etc.

You're absolutely right that there are a number of factors that can contribute to the onset of depression.

Loss of a brother to knife crime, ex cheating on me with a friend, extremely low self esteem and BDD, years of drug abuse. I have been stagnant for about 5 years, I see no way out.

Mine is caused by the financial situation I allowed my soon to be ex , to get me into. I know that if I paid off my debt and built up my savings, that I would be 80% better…

Finances can be a huge source of stress that can lead to depression.

I love your videos but I disagree! I have been trying to fix my depression and bad moods for years, mainly with therapy. But whenever I ask what can I do the answer is - stop trying! So I stopped trying for a few years and it all came back just worse. If that was the answer I wouldn’t be depressed. “Stop trying” is encouraging delusion that there’s no problem but there problem is still otherwise we wouldn’t be depressed. It feels so powerless and hopeless to be told constantly that the only thing that would fix me is to stop trying! Instead of actual and actionable solutions we’re all told by the therapist community “stop trying”. As long as there is something I can DO (capital DO not pretend, or talk about or discuss or rethink or distract myself but DO!) there’s hope. Once I cannot do anything - hope is gone! 🤷🏻‍♂️ I think the therapist community needs to drop the clichés and start actually helping because if therapy was a pill 💊 it wouldn’t reach the shelves as it isn’t effective enough the way it is now. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The idea isn't to stop trying entirely, but to stop trying to achieve goals that a person does not have the energy or motivation to achieve. To give up on those unachievable goals (for the time being) and focus on goals that the person actually is capable of doing. I hope that clarifies things.

@@DrRamiNader yea I know I did watch your goal setting video :) ; it all makes sense on paper (screen) but for me, I have two goals - find a partner (I’m failing miserably which is depressing in and of itself) and fix my brain so I’m not all a depressed mess every other day. To do the former I need to complete the latter first. So I’m trying to focus on makings my brain stop depressing me. I know you said logic is bad for depression but that’s all I have and the current methods often lack logical solutions that can be implemented to fix an issue instead of just patching it up “for now”. I read online therapy tends to not work for men anyway for the same reason - it’s often just emotions and not much actionable steps. 🤷🏻‍♂️
