- A hybrid stereo tube amplifier with tone controls AND a phono preamp AND meters?! Is the Dayton Audio HTA100BT too good to be true? NOMS: Nerding Out For Music Sounds
I love mine. I did modify it a little. First, I didn’t see a reason for the fan. The sound of the fan starting and stopping bothered me. Some listeners it might not. I changed the fan out to one that I can’t hear, at all. Now my amp is perfect. Best bang for the buck.
nice, which fan did you swap in?
Waiting for mine to arrive and as long as it has phone input I’ll be happy!
Great video! Enjoyed the quick jokes and the way you explain things, especially for someone like me who is just starting learn about this space.
I run this with a 10” sub with crossover set at 100hz…Gads of bass. …and the BT works wonderfully when using that input. I agree mids and highs are focused/accurate/uncolored at least through the fatman satellites running with my sub. My ears prefer fast/punchy/accurate lows and mid-lows and I find myself dialing the bass back a bit more often than not. Thanks for your review
I had something similar to this. A Rockville blutube amp. It looks a lot like this amp. Then I got a pure tube amp. It was a nobsound 6jp1 amp. I think. It had huge power tube. And like six other tubes. Sounded pretty good. I now have a schitt freya* and a emotiva xpa dr2 power amp. I’ve gotten a little akai as-1030 vintage amp. Sweet warm coloration sound. This is an expensive hobby
Just unboxed and connected to vintage klipsch KG4 speakers using bluetooth Tidal ap. After a little warmup, sounds mighty sweet.
Those KG4 are killer speakers
@@blackbeansmatter1280 nabbed another pair off craigslist last week. Drove 3 hours one way. $350 for the pair. Sounded good in his surround sound....got them home and realized a tweeter is dead. New caps soon and a Crites titanium diaphragm...hope all is good.
Mine has low volume static on right channel after about 50 hours of total play. Should I replace the tubes? Annoying sound.
So could you link a home receiver to this using an optical chord?
did you hook up the sub amp?
with a subwoofer it sound just fine, i have a 12'' subwoofer hooked up to mine it rattles the house and it Christal clear.
So a turntable doesn't sound so good on this unit? Im looking for a small tube preamp/amp like this for that very reason. A friend of mine has a Douk Audio X1 tube amp that he purchased on Amazon and swears by it producing an excellent sound quality from his turntable.
Great video! I do need a preamp for the turntable? What kind of turntable does it play? Belt drive or magnetic? Thanks!
It has a phono input. I'm using a Pro Ject Essential III which has no preamp of it's own. Just plug it into the HTA100. Works great.
Moving magnet not moving coil.
Do you know if this will run a pair of Forte 2's ?
Are you kidding me? With the efficiency of the Forte's you can run them with one watt, they are rated at 100 decibels per one watt input per meter
Try running with single driver, full range, high efficiency speakers no crossover.
Try parallel wiring. Half your homs, double your output…(if your speakers allow)
Now if we could get one with a USB DAC built in rather than just file playback
love mine....if you buy this for sixties vinyl....beatles etc....you dont listen to these for booming overwhelming bass...."no no ...treble is it"
If you really want to improve this unit go and get some German tubes telefunken just find the matching ones that you will need and you will be extremely happy I am
What type of German tubes and numbers thanks
It would probably sound great with a subwoofer.
I run mine with a set of Elac 6.2’s and I find no need for a sub.
How much do you wanna bet the warm glow from the tubes are LEDs. Notice how they snap right on.
You are wrong.
Jeez... What'd you expect for $230? lol
Exactly! Sometimes I think these morons that are doing these reviews are forgetting that they are not doing the review on a $5,000 tube amp. Sheesh
100% fake tube. This amp is all transistors. Tubes are full of leds and just for look.
Based on a schematic I’ve seen and literally hundreds of reviews and my personal HTA100 (Non BT) it’s a SS class A/B output amp with a true tube pre-amp. What are you basing your comment on? Thanks
Well, no the tubes are for the pre-amp section. I have 2 of them. For the price I paid for each at $159 brand new out the door plus tax from Parts express, this tube amp is a no brainer. It is REALLY nice, especially for the price. I have bigger and better high end equipment such as a full set up Marantz 510M (256wpc) with Marantz 3800 pre amp running JBL C50s and they are better but this Dayton HTA100BT system?? I'd rate it excellent, especially for the price. I put it with a vintage set of Bose 901 series 6's running through the Bose Eq with a Kyocera DA-01 CD player, and I have a total of $500 into the entire system. I'll put it up against gear at 5X the price. Like I said NO brainer.
stunning and wrong.
I have the HTA20BT and the tubes are absolutely in the circuit, I’ve tube rolled and heard the difference, here’s a video of mine with a bad tube socket (Parts Express exchanged the unit no problem). Great little amps, currently using mine to power Tekton Design Mini Lores.

Their fake tube amps the tubes are just for show. Lol.
wrong.
They're, not their. What are you basing your claim on?? Those are the preamp side only, not the amp, which is solid state.
