- The Traverse receives a refresh from Chevrolet from 2022. On the outside you will find a new front fascia, grill, lighting and wheels. On the inside there are some new materials and technology. Under the hood is a 3.6L V6 mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Is the NEW 2022 Chevy Traverse a BETTER midsize SUV than a Kia Telluride?

I watch many of your videos, but Joe, if you're going to entitle your videos with a (somewhat click baity question), I think you are obligated to answer the question for your viewers. This video provided a good overview of the new Traverse, but the title question was not answered or even really addressed. Thank you for your consideration. Keep up the great work.
Then watch his review on the Kia and you decide which is better
That decision is for YOU to decide. Everyone's taste & wants are a little different. Not everyone is going to feel the same. Depending on what you need and are looking for in a vehicle. If you are in the market...go check out suvs on your own. It is not Joe's job to tell you what to buy, in the end. He is only updating us on what's new and available.
I agree, at the end of all the videos, I'm always like: Well? was it better?
@@marcosa.333 yep, felt same, I just posted above before reading this. Pretty obviously not as good, but whatever...Chevy/GM never going to ever give any of their non super-high end models decent interiors
His question is for us to answer. That’s why I love his channel.
The Traverse looks a lot better than the former design. You and Lori worked your asses off to get us the latest looks of the vehicles. Much appreciated my friend. My wife just bought the new Sorento turbo. Hope she made a good choice. Welcome home Raiti’s family!
Hey Brian! Thanks for saying that! We really appreciate your awesome support! I think your wife made a great choice!
Kia's motors are NOT long lived and have terrible reputations with mechanics. The dealerships hire inexperienced techs because they cant hold onto experienced techs. We were thinking of buying the Telluride. Good thing we didn't with many of them cracking windshields and other problems in the products. They look great but luxury and looks wont help you when it doesn't move, unless you become homeless and live in the vehicle. Watch Scotty Kilmer who is a mechanic, not these you tube commercials for the manufacturer masquerading as reviews. They never say very much that is bad. All the vehicles are always show in a positive light. Most cars are designed to fail as soon as the warranty is up. 10,000 mile oil changes, lifetime transmission fluid? Watch your car explode at 60K.
Looks alot like my wife's 2018 (Premier) Traverse 😒. I love her car. So many features he left out of this review. I was expecting more from Traverse because I was thinking of trading in my Lincoln MKX for one. Guess I will wait till '23 to see what's *New* for the Premier
@@jcinewilliams8819 I guess he didn’t have a lot of time with the vehicle because of all the commotion going on at the time. Good luck with your search. 🙏
@@anthonyrosa5006 Kia is no worse than honda and toyota. Scotty kilmer doesnt know everything. His knowledge of cars is 20 to 30 years behind
Joe, Lori knows exactly how to shoot a video. Her ability to move in to show us details and to move around the perimeter of the vehicle is second to none. Thank you Lori.
It looks nice but the interior still looks ok but the jeep and Kia looks more modern.

The Kia is NOT going to age well tho..
Jeep and kia are both trash

Let's see which one last longer, I own a gm vehicle with 330k miles and still runs great, I would like to see a Kia doing that
Can't wait to see those headlights and backlights on.
My thoughts exactly
The Kia Telluride Nightfall package is looking at this Traverse and saying, "bring me a challenge somebody"...😂
You are so very right about that Monique!
I went from a Traverse to the Kia Telluride Nightfall edition, and believe me I'll never go back to a Traverse.
Hey Rait's Rides, I always thought that the chevy traverse needed a redesign because it was get old really fast. And all I want to say is nice review and good job
Agree
@@shane401 thanks you Shane S, for your opinion, and I agree
Nice where is the running board i hope 2nd and 3rd row not small and cramp i hope leather seating i hope it comes with a mini deep freezer for driver and passenger's
Redesigned in 2018.
Chevy's interiors need more improvement.
I have a 2018 High Country Traverse and the inside is very nice. Two-tone tan leather...
I think they’ve come a long way from previous years. Chevy’s are made for the everyday person, so in other words they’re designed with practicality in mind. If you want something more high end from GM then you would buy a Buick or Cadillac that focuses more on Luxury.
There whole lineup needs improvement they built these Chevys like shit.
The thing with Chevy that really makes me mad is that they are always comfortable being mediocre not good but not bad either. They have talent to produce amazing vehicles but they just don’t a lot of the times.
From what I've seen this has the most cargo space behind the 3rd row and power in its class and uses regular gas with good gas mileage. If you think Suburban etc is a little too big this is perfect. Also if you have toddlers or younger you dont really want too luxurious of an interior.
As a Chevy guy that steering wheel is a major zonk along with that gauge cluster
It's possible to swap a Acadia cluster into it, so it looks better lol
Great Joe, Chevrolet. Styling is more sleek, and the interior is better than before, especially the instrument cluster and seats. Great review, Joe 👍
It literally looks the same from the last gen
The chevy keeps it classic yet modern at the same time its plain and all but sheeshh the exterior looks fire🔥🔥🔥🔥
@Y O Same as Stellantis and Ford, most of their vehicles looks the same.
@Elitezer Soldier Yup
Best part of this vehicle is the secret compartment behind info screen. I think they put the traverse badge on front doors for the people next to them at a red light, wondering what it is……….oh, it’s a traverse ! 🙂
The secret compartment used to have a USB port in it. I use mine in my 2019 to keep my MP3 player so it's out of my way. No idea why they removed it.
I was also there & I got some great tidbits from the Chevy representative on getting some extra upgrades on this traverse. Many thanks to that Rep...and thank you for being there, Raiti!
I guess Chevy ain’t looking at what Mazda,Kia and Hyundai offering inside out!
Not at all. GM is lazy
@@Ballista762 🥺
It's a much bigger vehicle, if they were to add a more luxurious interior it would be priced out of its segment.
@@im2fast4u711 which vehicles do they compete with in the market?
@@curiosityredpill7030 the ones you just mentioned. GM has 4 vehicles in the overall 3 row mid size suv segment. The traverse, the acadia, the enclave and now the xt6. The chevy and gmc directly compete with the vehicles you mentioned while the buick and cadillac would be entry luxury 3 row suv. Imo the telluride and palisade in their top trims could compete in the entry level luxury category but chose to keep them in this segment which is the most popular. It was a smart move on their part and they're a steal at their price. But if you need something larger than the rest, with 3 rows with storage for 3 rows of people and don't want a minivan the traverse can give you that.
Joe, you finally made it. My wife said " let's see what he zonks" !!
No way, I was literally searching for the redesign traverse and now I see this!!! Wow, thank you Joe
Samee!!! Well not really but I heard of it!!!
I think I'll take whatever is available. No cars even for rent now. Crazy.
I've wanted for decades to have enough cash to buy a car with cash and now it's almost impossible to get what I want without a waiting period.
its because of chip shortages and people stupid enough to buy above msrp. There have been new cars driven 6,000 miles and my nearest dealers in Austin go for above 5,000 at minimum. Some even go as high as 10,000. It's crazy!!
I’m not a GM guy but Chevy did a great Job
I am so glad that you like this one Miguel.
Let's go GM!!🔥🔥🔥 NOW the front end is looking nice matching with the rear end whooohooo!!!! Thanks for making this video for us JOE!!!
Joe, the Kia dealership near me has 4 new Tellurides in stock. All 4 of them have a $15,000 dealer mark-up above MSRP and the dealer is refusing to bring the price down. So yeah, I would say the Traverse is a better 3 row mid-size SUV than the Telluride.
Interesting how this midsize 3 row suv has more interior room than some full size suvs.
I know right! It is all about how they are laid out.
@@RaitisRides like a mini van smh that a mini van 🤦🏽♂️ GM🤦🏽♂️
Right it’s almost 2 inches longer then the ‘19 Tahoe, Yukon, and Escalade.
Body on frame suvs have less interior room than unibody suvs like this
They can call it an SUV, but it is a crossover. So, it is a large crossover.
Still one of the largest 3-row crossovers in the segment.
This is so very true Norm! Good call!
It’s sooo much bigger than anything else in its price range. Especially with the captain’s chairs. I can easily walk to the back to help a kid get buckled. I love it.
@@ashleyrodriguez4950 we have the prior generation GMC Acadia and you can literally walk around the captain chairs without collapsing them to get in and out! It is huge!

You're completely right on the badging, way too high on the door. The exterior is stylish, but the competition is offering hybrid tech at the same price point. Great review.
Great video of the Chevrolet Traverse and it's a dandy. Thanks Lori you're a great videographer love your work!
We are so glad that you like this Traverse Luis!
I think you should get yourself a water bottle that says, "If you're ready I'm ready" with the logo and then "ZONKMAN" so you can use itm
Just sold my 2019 Red Line Traverse off a 3 year lease. I like the exterior refresh, but the interior is dated compared to the competition. Now I am driving the 2022 Genesis GV70. Joe, you are the best!
Hey Jeff! Thanks so much for the support! You did it right with the GV70.
@@RaitisRides I left a comment on your review of the GV70. Thanks to you I am lovin what I am drivin!
Interior is not anywhere near the new Jeep Grand Cherokee. Looks excellent but the interior sucks.
👍 traverse interior plastic city.. we recently compared a travers high country, Buick Enclave avenir and a GMC Acadia… we bought the Acadia but dam shame imo that gmc doesn’t make a larger traverse sized vehicle with the Acadia interrior
I agree. The interior is quite bland!
Love Chevy, love my equinox, love this new traverse. Everything Chevy is coming out with these days is a major home run. Love the videos.
Except they don't last. I got 130,000 miles our of my equinox and 167,000 out of my diesel suburban. Both engines wore out with oil changes at 2500 miles.
We're at a unique time where I keep thinking that this could be the last gas version of any all new model coming out.
It is a major transition period. I am holding on for dear life!

I just traded in my 2017 Traverse for a Cadillac xt5. And that is exactly what I thought......possible my last gas vehicle. I'm 67 so if my health remains good I can see myself in an EV in my mid 70's. I actually looked into them this go around but charging stations not that great imo right now. In a few years probably much better. And by then I probably won't be traveling as much out of town and at home charging will take of my needs 90% of the time. As far as this Traverse goes.....it indeed looks better than the 2018 to 2020 versions. Mine was the last of the sloping design which really looked dated.
Agreed
Dude , I love how you do this whole thing in pretty much one take 🙌🏾👌🏾”chefs kiss”
Nice presentation, Joe. Lori does an awesome job, too! The biggest zonk for me is that only the base models offer a bench in the second row. Captain's chairs make no sense to me. There is a lot of great competition in this space. Ciao, mio amico.
The Chevy Traverse just screams middle-aged suburbia to me. It will be in rental car fleets in no time.
@Virgil White It's the styling. It's not remembering at all. Kia Telluride is more innovative with its Range Rover-esque styling. That vehicle is so on demand right now. I'm a millennial with no kids and I even want to Kia Telluride. That's says a lot if it's attracting younger buyers as well. The Traverse doesn't appeal to the masses. That's just my opinion. 🤷
@@jraheemjefcoat429 !!! My wife loves it & I absolutely love it, great car and I’m only 21. Super spacious compared to traverse even tho the traverse is bigger if I’m not mistaken. But the telluride offers more modern and open design with more well lit color patterns, I feel as if all chevys are only black interior.. major zonk
Thank you! I have a 2018 Traverse that I am ready to trade for a new one. Previously I owned Lexus and BMW cars, and I have to say as much as I'd love an X7 I just can't do it because the Traverse has been an ideal car. I live in northern Utah (snow, mountains, etc.) and this car has been so good for us that I'm definitely in for another one!
One of the most helpful comments I've come across. I was nervous about going from a BMW to a Chevy.

I don't know how much Jeep invested for the Grand Cherokee L, but their interior is killing all mid 3rd rows. Can't get past it
But jeeps are so expensive compared to the leaders in the segment
I just purchased a Jeep Grand Cherokee L Limited 4x4 in Black diamond out the door for 47,500 love it interior is amazing. I looked at the GMC Acadia I got more and nicer with jeep for around the same price.

Yeah, growing up, my Dad drove Caddy's, kept Mom in the top Chevy, usually an Impala. Chevy's were always stylish and up to date....less expensive than the other GM offerings..... Pontiac, Buick, Olds, Cadillac....Chevy sold more than their siblings....the public SAW more of them....and as a teen, you could just DO more with a Chevy for less..... can't really say what went wrong, but I miss my days as a GM/Chevy guy.....an Acura guy now.

They definitely cleaned up the front end of the business.
Was looking at Traverse and Pathfinder. Wound up buying the Pathfinder. Was a great value, the driving experience felt more refined than any Traverse I’ve driven, the interior on the Platinum is pretty high quality, it’s manageable for the family and easy to drive in tight spaces, and it has loads of storage. It just works.
We used to be a Chevy and Ford family. To each their own, but totally happy with the 2022 Pathfinder. It checked all of our boxes.
This is a gm vehicle that I do enjoy driving. It’s pretty smooth, got plenty of space, and it looks decent. I just wish gm had better overall reliability cause I do like how their vehicles are setup
the reliability issues i had with my 2019 traverse is why I made the switch to the Telluride
Thanks Joe and Lori for the auto show review. 3-row suv is currently on my radar.

It's nice but definitely I will chose the Kia Telluride 😍
I got both
Traverse better feel
I just wish Chevrolet would put the interior of the new Tahoe in this. We know they can make excellent interiors, but this one is just average.
I have the new 2022 Traverse. I have the black Premier redline edition. Super sporty! My two dislikes- and they aren’t a major dealbreaker are the moonroof lacking a power shade like my last suv. And I hate that the only cup holders in the 2nd row are in the door. Not major issues, so no big deal. Driving it has been great. A smooth, comfortable ride with plenty of power and that redline edition is turning heads. It’s beautiful.
First of all, AWESOME video as always! 😎
Second of all, like every other comment states.. the outside looks amazing! The interior though… mehhhh. If a company truly wants to compete with others you’d THINK that they would put time and money into BOTH the interior and exterior, not just the exterior alone. It blows my mind that Chevy can slap such a high sticker price on this thing with every feature it doesn’t come with! No heads-up-display, no ventilated second row seats, no panoramic sunroof, no front parking sensors. Yikes, I’ll take the new Grand Cherokee please!!
Yup. Interior is boring. I went with a palisade
I can't stop looking at that badass looking Silverado in the background lol. This Traverse is pretty good, it's so much cleaner looking than previously. Keep up the great videos Joe, as always!

I love watching your reviews. You make any car sound like it was the best vehicle ever made
Chevy did a really nice job on this refresh. The interior is not in the same class as the Telluride... But the exterior looks are greatly improved!
I’m telling you as a person who has lots of time in 3 rows, the two best in the class are this and the Telluride. When you see the Chevy in person you will get a great impression. It drives much better than the Atlas or just about every vehicle in the segment. Could use a few new tech features like automatic braking standard, but this is my favorite in the class hands down
Great review. My wife has the 2021 RS and we love the Traverse. As always,,, Thanks again to Lori for the awesome camera work....!!! You always get the right angles.
Great changes and better interior but I'll definitely take the telluride over this. That suv has been selling like hot cakes
You are so very right about that and it is the way that I would go for sure!
But if you can get a large discount on this versus a Telluride which are constantly having dealer markups, that's a 10-14k difference in savings
@@Striker50_ from my research the discounts aren't that great on a lot of cars at this time. If you do your hw and are willing to wait then you can get a Telluride at MSRP. Either way the Telluride has a lower MSRP than the Traverse.

If roof vents aren’t your favorite location then what is? I would think that’s a better location than the center console since roof vents hit you directly.
I really like the grill more in this car more
Some crossovers Like Volvo have the rear A/C vents in the pillars right in front of the rear doors, that's my preference too.
love the review and I agree with your zonks 100% the last 5-6 years Chevy has penny pinched on features where they should take the extra step. By now if you're paying for the top trim on any model, you should have a lcd/led cluster just like how hyundai/kia offer. I have a Bolt EUV reserved but I am inching towards something else. always love the reviews Joe!
as others have said, Exterior looks better then it used too. Interior leaves alot to be desired. telluride smashes this...
Telluride's a piece of shit Kia. Driven it and many of them, I know. The only decent kia, maybe the K900 i had.
Good review! We bought a 2019 Traverse Premier in Cajun Tin Coat Red! Really turns a lot of heads at the red lights! I don’t think the refresh is that big of a deal, other than a bit more aggressive grill and a little retouches on the tail lights, it still looks like the 2018-2021, certainly not enough of a refresh for me to trade mine for a new one. However, we both love the Traverse, it’s power, ride comfort and room. So far, we’ve been totally satisfied.
Being a GM fan is so painful. Every new model or "refresh" is a let down 90% of the time. Subpar materials, borrowed components and incohesive design is the theme year after year. Also, when will Chevy revamp their emblem?? The bulky gold bowtie has needed to go for years!!
100% agree. But why the bowtie ?
I feel the same way, very bland interior design.
@@trollwaffen1248 The bowtie needs a redesign, it needs to be more modern and clean. Kia understood this and hit a home run for 2022, this small change plays a significant role in the overall design and marketing.
The interior is literally identical to the 2018-2020 model, just the headlights grill and some styling is all that’s changed
I like the freshen up,it looks a lot better I was looking at the telluride also I have a Tiguan the lease is ending beginning of next year so need a replacement, the telluride is nice also but there’s a huge mark up on them like 10k or so CRAZY! For a suv so the transverse might be a good option thanks for a great review like always 👍🏼
The exterior of this new Traverse looks great. Here’s why it certainly doesn’t “trump the Telluride”: GM’s build quality is pathetic. Also, this car hasn’t been updated with enough new technology and luxury to begin to compare to the Telluride.
Pay attention www.kiatellurideforums.com/forums/2020-kia-telluride-problems-and-issues.33/ My wife was jonesing for a Telluride but I decided to go for the 4Runner. Not because of luxury which the Telluride looks great but because the Toyota is in the top 10 most dependable, longest lasting and highest resale SUVs out there. No its not new, and that's a good thing. There are zero issues and engineering defects. Many run past 300,000 miles. I doubt many cars other than Honda and Toyota can routinely make that claim. Certainly not Kia. If you want luxury buy the lexus, tough 4wd with luxury. Yea both of these can be costly and used ones are almost as expensive as new for the first 5 years. That should tell you that they are worth the cost. Kias loose value REALLY fast. My wife isn't complaining about the 4Runner and does not miss the Telluride.
I’ve owned a Toyota Highlander for 13 years. It’s at 193k miles, and we are actively looking at SUV’s to replace it in the near future. Mechanically we only had to change the alternator 3k miles ago. My wife said she likes they way the Traverse looks, so we will add that to our list of test drives. My problem(or opinion) is that for $53k I can get another Highlander, or a 4 runner, or a telluride, all top level trim. Now if I was to sell all 4 mentioned SUV’s 6 years down the road, which one do you think would be worth the least? Bingo, the Traverse. That’s why it should be maxed out at about $45k. I can’t pick a traverse out of a $53k line up of SUV’s because it will be worth less once off the lot. Thank you for your videos, they are much appreciated.

Well, we still went with Telluride SX.. the sporty looks, fewer in the roads, and high resale value plus kia’s warranty👍
"Is the NEW 2022 Chevy Traverse a BETTER midsize SUV than a Kia Telluride?"
Simple answer: No, other than being roomier. There's a reason the Telluride still typically sells for above MSRP three years into its lifespan, while you can easily get $5K-10K discounts on the Traverse. Kia build a far higher quality and more desirable product than Chevy. Just look at that infotainment stack and the rest of the Traverse interior... yuck. Nothing but a hideous blob of hard, cheap plastic. Typical GM junk.
Thanks for share info that great input and perspective. It’s going to be interesting to say the least!
Well JD Power Reliability has Kia at 97 and great but Chevy 115 is above industry average at 121 and well above brands like Honda at 115

I agree completely. Hyundai and Kia's quality is great these days, this Traverse is not worth $52k imo. Alot of this cheap interior trim has been used in other Chevy's since 2018 or earlier, and only an 8" infotainment as the upgrade? This seems like it would have been a new model for 2018, not for 2022.

You'll save your self thousands even more if you go with the highlander or pilot.
the exterior is a lot better, and its about time it got a refreshed even though i think its time for a full redesign. but Chevy (gm in total) really really need to update their interiors, I had a 97' Lumina and a 99' catera and the new interiors just feel like update versions of what they have been using for over 20 years, its time they get some new designers and let their imaginations run wild, all those buttons on the dash , steering wheel and doors look antiquated and just made me shake my head when you showed them. I currently have a 19' sante fe ultimate awd on lease that ends in 2 months and i just can't find any reason to look outside of the palisade and telluride, the new Nissan pathfinder is nice but just doesn't pull me in it's direction, the new grand Cherokee has an amazing interior but I still question their reliability and something about a 10 year warranty is something i can't ignore from Hyundai and kia.
Looks good on the outside but as usual, the interior looks cheap.
You could have put the car in service mode by holding down the start button for about 5 seconds and it is like the on mode with a car with a key. But still loved the review!
I don’t understand the split headlight/drl trend, like how well do those headlights work when they look like they’re only a foot off the ground? Wonder if they will be worse than the pre-refresh which has them up much higher.
I agree, I think it's stupid. I also hate how Hyundai/Kia are now also doing the turn signals real low in the bumper on the rear as well. Looks tacky imo, and on the more expensive options, it's just a huge zonk.
@@bourbon.36 It's gotta be a safety concern with those low turn signals as well, very easily obstructed or hard to notice at all when they're that low to the ground, I guess side markers and mirror signals are much more common now so that helps.
Major props to you and Lori for putting in major work at the Chicago Auto Show
It is definitely good-looking. I'd take it over the KIA on looks alone.
I bought a 2021 Traverse LT in April and honestly it looks the same, same seats, screen, steering wheel, head lights and tail light did change but not really MAJOR changes.
For being newer it still looks outdated to me, but it’s still a nice SUV. Enjoyed the review!
I was thinking the same thing
