  • Sunset Park's Chinatown is one of the largest Chinese enclaves in New York City, with a rich cultural history and a diverse array of shops, restaurants, and other businesses. The neighborhood is home to many Chinese immigrants and their families, as well as other Asian and Hispanic communities.
    Visitors to Sunset Park's Chinatown can explore a wide range of culinary delights, from traditional dim sum and noodle shops to modern fusion cuisine. The neighborhood is also known for its vibrant street markets, which offer a variety of fresh produce, seafood, and other goods.
    In addition to its food and culture, Sunset Park's Chinatown is also a hub for community events and celebrations. The neighborhood hosts an annual Lunar New Year parade and festival, as well as other events throughout the year to celebrate Chinese and Asian culture.

    You sure know how to tease your viewers by starting your video off inside a bakery. 😆😋 2:52 八 Ba (Number 8) sounds similar to 發 Fa (Prosperity). I personally find it interesting that many Chinese people associate the number 8 to wealth just because of the similar pronunciation. It makes sense why they started their businesses on 8th Ave. It was nice seeing all the local markets, eateries, business, and lively activities in Brooklyn, Chinatown. 😃 Thank you for sharing this informative walk, AK! 🤗

    As this Brooklyn's Sunset Park Chinatown eventually evolved into being the largest Fuzhou community of NYC, it has had a lot more attentive recognition for the Fuzhou culture whereas the original firstly emerged Fuzhou community in Manhattan's Chinatown has had a more limited attentive recognition due to the fact that it is not as large and concentrated like Brooklyn's Sunset Park Chinatown and it is mainly concentrated within the eastern end of Manhattan's Chinatown, which is a more isolated part of the Chinese community with less attraction to visitors and tourists. Unlike Brooklyn's Sunset Park Chinatown now has a much more limited and diluted Cantonese population and they no longer have a Cantonese concentrated community like they once had, which is what contributed to the Fuzhou community in Brooklyn's Sunset Park Chinatown to get all the attentive recognition, Manhattan's Chinatown still has a large Cantonese population including especially their long time established large Cantonese Chinatown in the western end of Manhattan's Chinatown and being that it is the earliest part of Chinese community to emerge, it has long held the status as being the pedestrian business center for the Chinese community as well as being the visitor attraction, which has allowed the Cantonese community to continue to have most of the attentive recognition for the Chinese community like it traditionally has always had when they used to be the majority of the Chinese population until the 1990s, which has limited the attentive recognition to the Fuzhou community in Manhattan's Chinatown and also gentrification resulting in the slow declination of Manhattan's Chinatown is also not helping.

    I just saw the Chinatown video in Seattle.. WOW!! Looks like its on life support compared to Brooklyn Chinatown. Theres always this invisible energy in Brooklyn. Many Asians are moving into Bay Ridge as well. Practically all of South Brooklyn has made a shift towards Asians relocating.

    Bensonhurst is where I had been lived for over 24 years until I moved out last November. Bensonhurst is close to the Bath Beach has great waterfront view.
    8th Avenue, Sunset Park close to the Prospect Park but waterfront space is very limited and the water is highly polluted. Sunset means dead, it is not a good place for me.
    Avenue U, Homecrest is part of the Sheepshead Bay close to the Midwood, but living cost is more affordable.
    Manhattan Chinatown is in the downhill since younger people moved out.
    Flushing is highly populated and commercialized, but only good for shopping, not an ideal place for living.

    • @City-Hiker
      @City-Hiker Рік тому

      @@waitaminute2015 : They moved to Texas, Upstate, Staten Island, Marine Park, Mill Basins that are more affordable.
      The older mid-age persons that I know, a few of them moved to Bensonhurst and Gravesend from Sunset Park.
      Some of my relatives moved to the Staten Island, and Woodside, and I personally moved to Midwood because I want to live close by the city.

      @@City-Hiker got it. I don't blame people, but I guess I'm just nostalgic for the way neighborhoods used to be, separated by ethnicities. This can be a negative thing, but I think the benefits of retaining culture and having a sense of community are important. Now people are separated by income and live in a different kind of bubble. Thanks for your reply.

    • @City-Hiker
      @City-Hiker Рік тому

      @@waitaminute2015 : Well. When you watch the wildlife documentary movie, animals moved from North to the South, crossed the river to river and forest to forest for survival.
      Today, many New Yorkers living paycheck by paycheck. They rent a house with a few roommates together if they are single. This won’t happened if you live in your own country.
      When you look at the Downtown Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Navy Yard, Crown Heights. those where traditionally Blacks and Hispanics communities now under gentrification pushing a lot of local people moved out and replaced by the richers. Traditional local Hispanics and Blacks are force to moving out of the neighborhood.
      Sunset Park and Gowanus are also under gentrification. Some people wish to move out, but due to lack of language and technical skills, they afraid of moving out.
      Since the living cost and rent are always going up. When the price going up and the younger people not able to afford, then they will move out.
