The word archetype stems back to Plato and the Greek word ‘archetypos’, or original form. Archetypes represent a primordial image, character or pattern of circumstances that recurs consistently enough to be considered a universal concept or situation.
Today, we explore the Innocent and the Caregiver archetypes in part 2 of my archetype series. Five more parts are coming over the next months so keep watching for all the archetypical goodness you could ask for!

The 'Innocent' is interesting, although I wouldn't necessarily sees it as something one has to outgrow. Life may through curves, and there always becomes a time for grieving, but I believe the choice to be positive is a noble one, especially in the face of continual terrors.
The 'why' of becoming a caregiver is also interesting. Seeing the necessity for selflessness can be its own reward in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I often think of my grandmother, who worried a great deal when my father was off to war. I really should immortalize her character one of these years. I could never do her justice, but it would be a labour of love.

That is true that there can be variations on the classic with all of these archetypes (such as the innocent remaining that way) but like I said with my first archetype overview there is just SO much to delve into with this, my aim is to provide the bread and butter haha
Perhaps if the series gains some traction I can keep digging further :) I do have a pretty interesting finale planned... whenever I get to it!
It sounds like you grandmother was probably a really fascinating character that would deserve the tribute! If you ever do pursue such a project you'll have to let me know.

You present an interesting concept. But I think the "Innocent" has to grow out of the type in order to further its own storyline. The Innocent cannot walk around a story with blinders on. It has to experience things, and those things will leave marks on the Innocent; challenge their character, their convictions. That "loss" of innocence, or the "coming of age" is a change that everyone must make - some earlier or later than others. I don't see it as meaning the character loses Hope, it just means that they have lived through a challenge TO that Hope. I can't think of any time in literature where an Innocent staying innocent actually makes for a good story.
