I love the idea of using Voice Aloud Reader as a way of hearing my writing in a different voice. Can't wait to try this!

Thank you for this video! It's full of great advice. I was shocked that you enjoy reading your finished books/drafts.
Even just the thought of reading back over mine fills me with anxiety. I'm terrified that I'll end up hating the book. With my latest work, I read the first half and absolutely loved it, but then I got to the second half and I really didn't enjoy it. I restructured it tremendously to increase urgency and bring the central plot out more, but I'm afraid to read it again. What if I still don't like it? What if I made it worse? These thoughts fill my mind, and I feel like if I don't read the draft I don't have to face them. Which probably isn't the best for me or my work in the long run 😂😭

You are so welcome! I'm glad it was helpful - I wasn't too sure how much it would be since it's a bit personal, approaching how you come at your novel after writing haha
Generally there's a period where the last thing I want to do is read my complete work but that's right after writing it. I get kind of, sick of the world and sick of myself and need to move on 😅 but then once I let it rest, I start getting curious and nostalgic and that's where the excitement and enjoyment comes back. I suppose that could be another good point to make for determining how long to let your story rest - leave it until you're interested in it again!
Don't get me wrong though, there's always plenty to get anxious about and hate once I start delving back into it all 😂 and that's what spurs on the editing process!

These seem like pretty good tips. I'm in a strange position with my current WIP. I've been writing and narrating my own audiobook and releasing it episodically on my channel so what I include is just how it is and any future chapters have to stay consistent to what's already available to the audience. It can be vaguely frustrating because, obviously, my plans are evolving as I progress and occasionally I wish I'd done something differently, like the age of one of my characters. I'm hoping that when I finally reach the end of the story I can compile it into one and I'm gonna have to decide whether the printed version should have any differences.

Ahh yeah it can be tough releasing a WIP as you go. I don't have experience with the audiobook format but I used to post chapters fairly regularly on fiction posting sites and it was really hard to balance that format with the urge to edit, change, etc... once you start building a fan base, then those fans are going to want you to maintain what they are already locked in to liking. And it can really be such a great way to build a reading group just because there's always that anticipation for what comes next. Without a full story out there, the reader has no other choice but to wait anxiously for the next chapter!
I wound up coming to a similar conclusion, that at the end changes could be made. I think even if you have people who want to maintain what you originally did, they'll always have that first platform to go back to and enjoy and you'll be able to put out a final product that you feel more confident about. I'd say stick to what *you* want for the final publication for sure!

@@HollyRhiannonWrites I really appreciate the insight. It's nice to know I'm on the right path. I'm still so new at this and the imposter syndrome is real, although I'm getting better at just having faith in my own ability. I know that the best thing to do if you want to get better is find someone that knows what they're doing and listen to their wisdom. That's why authortube is such a valluable community to be a part of. There's a whole world of people on the same journey as me and it's just a comfort to know you'v got an entire community that has your back. Especially from my point of view as a blind creator. I have all these limitations that I have to adapt to but knowing that booktube/authortube will always support me genuinely gives me confidence. I think what you and Pae are doing is so admirable and I want you to know that I have a great deal of respect for anyone who is willing to invest their time into helping people. It's so nice of you to provide a platform for people to tell their stories. I don't know you too well yet but I've spoken to Pae enough to know he's a good guy, if not a bit of an enigma lol. For him to set this up with you tells me you're probably a good friend to have. Good luck with the anthology and all the plans you have for the future 🥂

I usually wait a few years before going back and reading. Sometimes not on purpose--I usually just don't want to read back what it is I just made. haha If there were only lines I didn't like and had to omit, that would be fine, but there have been whole novels that I have omitted from the novel.

haha well, if it doesn't work it doesn't work 😅 and I agree, while there's a point where I look forward to re-reading what I just wrote..... when I first finish it the last thing I want to do is spend any more time in that world 😬
