Even easier, all they had to do was have the high ground. Ask Anakin, it works every time. Maybe the brutes ai was actually just really smart and knew that once we had the high ground, defeat was only a matter of time.
Damn straight the Grappling Hook is the savior of humanity. For the past 20 years I've been saying every game needs a grappling hook and Halo Infinite is one of the greatest games of all time if only for this reason. Any game that doesn't have a grappling hook feels dumb and stupid, if grappling hooks ever become a mindless industry fad I will give 100% support to that fad. Animal Crossing with Grappling Hook? Yes please. Gran Turismo with a Grappling Hook? Absolutely. Chess, but all the pieces have grappling hooks, would be the first time in a thousand years that something better than the original Chess was created.
Hilariously, I got to hear "halo fans" bitch and moan 4 and 5 were too much like CoD They were applauding when they ripped off the titanfall grapple hook.
@@Sebomai-b8iThat reminds me of something. Someone tried to ask the Halo Subreddit that if Bonnie Ross plays Halo and his post got quickly removed and the guy banned. Says a lot about them based on their actions unfortunately.
@@ravneo I get your point and you're not wrong but I don't assume the permanent staff is who worked on the tank controls. I heard it's better with a controller but I could never be bothered to check for myself.
In my head canon, the Halo Franchise ended when Chief got in the Cryo Tube in the Forward Unto Dawn. They never actually found him. The next 3 games have all been dreams he's having.
I'd say they'd never go with that, but that's basically what Red Vs Blue has done to retcon everything past Season 14, so, hey, it may actually happen !
The worst thing about 343 is how much story happens off screen and between games…. Still can’t forgive them them for not finishing the Cortona story on screen.
this has been bugging me for the longest time, not the story, people complaining they need to read a bunch of books or whatever to understand the story. between 4 and 5, yes theres alot of story but nothing that was too important that needed a lot of explaining, 5 seemed to explain enough ingame. Now with infinite it makes sense.
@@dg7347 "Nothing that was too important" - How the fuck is Cortana suddenly alive again - Where the hell did all these Spartans come from - Why is Buck a Spartan-VI after previously being an ODST. What happened to his old squad - Who the fuck is the Warden Eternal - Where and when did Chief suddenly buddy up with his old team who have had no notable mention in the previous games - Why is Halsey a prisoner of the Covenant and what happened to her arm And no, I don't consider a side mode in Halo 4 that take weeks to release content after the main game as a supplement. A large portion of people want to experience Halo for the main story and that's where they should expect it to be contained. Excusing these things is the exact reason why Halo 5 and Halo Infinite have so many complaints around how they don't even feel connected to the previous game.

I'm so tired of hearing people say 343 doesn't deserve the hate but reality is a cruel mistress. They were given MS biggest IP and not once have they made a good game
@edinbitter100 honestly, I feel like this about entertainment as a whole. Everything seems either watered down, made stupidly, or turned into a terrible and extreme political statement. Idk what's going on, but it's killing all forms of entertainment
Tbh I've always felt like the positive response around the campaign of infinite was a big cope to lack of content in general. I mean basically nothing happens, the big villain dies off screen, and you're last second introduced to some new threat and it's over. I Guess when you've been given what 343 gives you you think the scrapings of the bottom of the barrel is something to behold.
That's exactly it. It's just very very bland and forgettable. Understandably that's seen as a win when former 343 outings were more openly insultingly bad. I think bland is one of the worst things halo can be though
to me the campaign was good, not because of the story (it was bad) but because of the environments and gameplay. It felt tactical to me, like Halo was meant to be, and the enemies, guns, and vehicles were more fun than most AAA games I've played in the last decade. I should say though, I didn't grow up with Halo games, I only got into them as an adult a few years ago, so I don't really have a personal issue with 343 the way most Halo fans do. I understand what they've done it just doesn't really strike that same chord.
after finishing Infinites campaign i was really confused how sudden it ended. not because the story ended on a cliffhanger, but because it was over without ever entering any different biome and without any real evolution of gameplay. just look at how artificial Zeta looks, even for an halo ring. and you want to tell me this ring ONLY got "generic planes with lush forest here and there"? this could've easily been a "classic" linear halo campaign with the development resources spend somewhere else. but no, instead we gotta play what's essentially modern Far Cry disguised as a Halo title. and even Far Cry with it's monotone open-world gameplay got more variety than Infinite. how could anyone in theire right mind look at this game and genuinly say "yes, THIS is the Halo we'll build upon for the next decade"?
I started skipping cutscenes cause they all look the same and the story sucked. So when I got to the final boss I honestly was surprised the game just ended. Uninstalled and have never played it again. $60 wasted
14:20 pretty on the money. When folks were told the grappling hook would be infinite charges, there was a lot of frustration because it pretty much ruined the encounters and levels they were working on. You can find bandaid solutions they had to make like rage brutes tossing an infinite supply of dynamo grenades if you’re out of their melee range
The additional irony is that 343 Industries added ray traced shadows but only to the multi-player, not the campaign which needs it the most. I mean what kind of sweatlord would play the multi-player with ray tracing? That's just an additional performance penalty.
I’m glad you picked apart the campaign. Basically every reviewer and person would just say “the campaign is fun, but multiplayer is bad”. Which I thought was such a cop out. The campaign absolutely sucks.
i think people played the first few sections of the campaign, saw the combat was pretty good and called it a day. The worst thing about the campaign imo is that literally nothing happens. The narrative doesn't move an inch from beginning to end
@@SentinelExLiterally the only thing 343 absolutely *had* to do was just release a part 2 to the campaign along with Forge and that would have satisfied the player base for at least a year, and 343 couldn't even do that. The fact it seems like they're doing nothing but sitting on their asses makes the game feel even more dead than it probably is. It's like the game came out 10 years ago and the devs have long moved on, but no, it's only been a couple years. That depressing, empty feeling you get whenever you're Forging on a popular map like Valhalla by yourself, is the same feeling the entirety of Infinite has.
The campaign was sequel baiting after the first few missions. Imagine if Halo 1 talked about The Flood for 80% of the game without ever showing them. Also why do the Banished want to kill humans? In Halo 1 I accepted it because we never got their point of view. In Halo 2 we got their point of view and learned the Covenant is based on some major misinterpretations. But in Infinite, we get their points of views which was good, but their motivations and purposes felt one dimensional or non-existent.
343:"Halo infinte will last 10 years" 343: 2 years later: Uhhh just kidding! Halo 7 is being worked on now and we swear it will be good this time! Now give us $40 for a shitty armir design
I thought it was absolutely stupid that it was not physics base, you grapple a grunt and somehow the grunt is heavy enough to pull the chief towards them
I pray 343 gets shut down. The last thing my money went to with their name on it was MCC on PC. And It'll never go to them again. I always considered Halo 4 canon. But after infinite, I'm officially uncanoning 343s marred legacy from the Halo universe. Just like the Star Wars Sequels.
One of the worst things about badly/lazily designed open worlds is that they encourage cutting corners. Why would waste your time clearing out enemies when theyre just gonna repawn on the next load screen Looking at you elden ring.

The OG trilogy launched a franchise, console, and countless careers for good reason. Halo Trilogy did to vidya industry what Star Wars trilogy did to movies. They've been focused on making a game that they wanted to make instead of HALO itself. It also seems that since they failed to grasp at old fans again they seemed to have gone full blown out for the halo 5 fans
not even lol. they even failed to cater to people who liked halo 5 lmao. art direction is literally so much worse in infinite and less consistent, and the game also has less unlockable content than in 5, hiding almost everything behind a battle pass lol. also no warzone and less content on launch iirc. legit the biggest epic fail in existence, letting down BOTH old fans and halo 5 fans. true dat though, they really have been focusing on the wrong bullshit, even to the point of dooming mcc and all the other classics with mcc discontinuation, unnecessary new armor in mcc, and shutting down ALL the servers for the originals. literally suicidal business model good job 343
This is depressing. I had high hopes for this franchise after starting to play the open world of Infinite. But by the end, I knew the game would fade into obscurity and 343 would revamp the whole thing as if it had never existed. The story of this one might be the worst one yet.
13:09 I don't understand why the elite decided to retreat. In any of the Bungie games this situation is a death sentence, white elite with an energy sword charging at a cornered player? Yup, back to checkpoint. But here it's like the game just gives you a do-over
I got a hard copy a month ago because I missed the original halo trilogy. Keeps crashing and freezing on me. Besides that, after about 2 hours in the world, you’ve done everything and now it’s just rinse and repeat
I never played the campaign because I wanted to let the multiplayer dictate whether or not I wanted to, and I had the EXACT same issues. The jitteriness, that input delay feeling, lack of feedback which made a lot of shots feel like they weren't registered. I felt like I was playing a different game while watching a video of the one I was in. Meanwhile, everyone was raving "it's just like the old days, hurrah!" I'm glad I wasn't the only one who experienced that as a sheer clunky mess of an experience THANK YOU.
343 retconning the forerunners into a separate species(the prometheans) instead of ancient humanity(like in Bungie's original canon) was far more damaging.
@@McBoofus they also made the backstory of the flood be that they were remnants of the Precursors in the form of magic space dust, but ancient humanity fed the space dust to their pets, creating the flood. You wanted this cosmic body horror space parasite that can destroy entire species to have a little bit of mystery to it? Too bad! And you know what? We’re gonna make the backstory really stupid too! They tried the same thing with the Alien franchise, and it sucks there too. Bit of an off topic rant, but this is an issue I see a lot with writing nowadays, especially in sci-fi/fantasy. We don’t need to know where the xenomorphs come from, you only need to explain just enough so the audience can fill in the blanks with their imagination. But no, everyone thinks they can be a Tolkien. Then, since they’re not Tolkien, they end up over explaining every element of their setting, even if it would be way cooler in the audience’s imagination.
Something tells me none of these commenters watched the video but took the "Hitler" descriptor literally rather than a joke. Renn explains how Cortana's regret would've been good campaign stock. Besides which Rampancy was actually in the (Bungie created) Marathon series and perfectly fits the way she did the genocide, more through taking advantage of her position than literally raising an army from the ground up like a supposed space Hitler.
I looked it up because I was curious if you had just left out any encounters...but uh...There are no Scarabs? Seems a bit odd because some of the best moments from 3 were those large open areas where you had these boss fights with Scarabs, and uh, well an open world just sounds obvious for including them. Seeing them wandering around in the distance, climbing up walls, attacking marines. I mean, can you imagine using a grappling hook to climb a scarab and take it down? That sounds pretty damn awesome to me on some Shadow of the Colossus stuff. Hell, their original purpose in the Covenant was for mining purposes, so maybe you hear or see them doing just that. They're also made of worms like the Hunters are so some cool events around that might be interesting, like forming together to make some large worm beast you hear burrowing underground occasionally popping up and fighting back. I'd also like the same with Drones, maybe make the sky go darker? Like the sheer amount is blocking out the light a bit and have swarms attack both you and the banished? Both of those would make for pretty interesting open-world encounters while changing up the gameplay.
@@paperclip6377 Well that's what I mean I know they have all these computers armors and weapons and what not but the general part is those worms so I think it would be cool to explore more with what they can do plus not seeing a scarab is just sad because its perfect for infinite

The original Halo Combat Evolved is by far my favorite game of the series. I love the way they balanced the weapons/gameplay/maps in this game. It's unique. It's so well thought out for all out fun. Yet if you want to play skilled modes you can too. You can couch co-op party play. Co-op the campaign. I love how the game is crafted to bring out certain types of play style with-in people. It leaves room for goofing around, while equally allowing for a test of your knowledge and skills of the game to see who can utilize things the best. The maps are so unique compared to other multiplayer games. They aren't just copying COD 3 lane map layouts. The campaign is great, the flood, the gathering of ammo, health packs, shields, cloak. The way they built it so you start out with base weapons and you each have to go around the map to aquire weapons and more during gameplay, really creates a awesome structure to how the game is needed to be played. +It's my opinion that The A.I. is by far the BEST A.I. It's so interesting to go up against the enemies in this game. The enemies have such diverse dynamic behavior and reaction responsiveness. Not just enemies, your own soldier's that team up with you to drive vehicle's in the story mode, really adds depth to the campaign mode. The level of customization of game modes is like nothing we have today. You could Customize your own personal character. You could make your own game modes. Health packs are such a big deal to the Halo gameplay that I don't think many people grasp. In CE Legendary if you had high health you could afford to to be aggressive and take risks. With regenerating shields, health became less of a measure of how quickly you die and more of an expendable resource you tap into for aggression. As the level goes on and health packs become rarer you need to manage this resource better, adding to the complexity and intensity of combat. The mood and flow of combat is so different when you have full health compared to 1 bar left. Reach touched on this a little bit, but even in that the health pool was too small and made you focus more on shield managament. I'm of the mind that HP should act as your "combat resource" whereas shields should act as your "combat cooldown". I've been disappointed with how few Halo games realised this. I agree with everything you talked about here as well. CE is the GOAT. The other Bungie Halos are great too, love em to bits, but CE is the golden child.
Did 343 forget that the Drones / Yanme'e exist? They haven't been in a game since like Halo 3? What happened to them can someone explain this? Are 343 just being lazy? And no I ain't talking about Prometheans...
I disagree with the notion of Chief being a generic and empty husk, he's always had a personality. And I never liked the censored design that 343 gave New Cortana/The Weapon.

Halo infinite is the first and only game where I'm still so fucking salty about the $60 they scammed out of me. If I could get a refund through Steam, I fucking would. I stopped playing the multiplayer 3 months after "launch". The campaign even earlier (nothing to do). I was hoping for DLC to actually finish the campaign but that never did and never will come. God I wish I had those $60 back, even if just to set them on fire so at least I'd have the satisfaction of being entertained by the flame and ashes
I keep referencing the first few minutes of Maulers "Force Awakens Part 1" Video where it shows people blinded by hype praising the movie only to over time come to realize the flaws and end with a "Eh its okay" take and it's the same with Halo. Also, I cannot express how much I hate that scene at 2:23...Even if Infinite was a 10/10 for me that cutscene alone drops it down at least 2 points.
So many talentless, passionless hacks in the industry just collecting a paycheck. The AAA bubble is close to collapsing. At least I can say I lived through the best time the industry ever had, and can look back fondly on those memories.
I like the game, but you're right that the multiplayer maps are too claustrophobic and maze-like. 343 is more obsessed with making Halo an e-sport instead of making it fun. They failed at both objectives.

Hey man on MCC you can fix your medals in the settings. No need to look at the H4 garbage designs. You can also lower the crosshair to the true Halo position, no need to play with a handicap.
Jesus Christ, sometimes I feel like I'm going crazy. Because the very first minutes I immediately noticed that the combat wasn't this beautiful chaos anymore - it was more like a cover shooter. And some people were telling me that I'm spouting nonsense, that the combat is good, etc, etc. But no, your video shows it clearly: combat is fucking garbage and that's that. You really are my favorite boy in the whole wide world. No joke - you're one of very few sensible reviewers out there.
Whilst I agree with a lot of the points you put forward, there's some small issues with points you make in the review; a tiny one being the fall damage comment, cutscenes don't need to completely reflect the game mechanics. And I'm surprised you didn't mention how the A.I in Legendary difficulty can track the player after Line of Sight is broken, making use of the grappling hook moot. Also, filming parts of your review in a cemetery was pretty distasteful... It's a place for the dead to be honoured and rest, not for you to shoot your video game reviews.
I've tried to give 343 Studios some understanding. I've tried to rationalize how franchises evolve with time - but so much of what they've done with the series just feels completely at odds with Halo's identity and the fun of playing it.
Halo: Reach was the last Halo game I ever invested time in, it was the last Halo that felt like Halo. I have fond memories of being in a clan called the UN, god I miss those days.
@@tmac3d320 I literally couldn't give it a shit if it was made by lunatics in a garage or the best developers in the world, I couldn't care less. My opinion still stands, especially since you're making baseless assumptions.
You make a good point. Actually all of the points you raised are very valid. Infinite is severely lacking in originality and content and quality of gameplay. to me Its basically like an empty, demo, halo version of JC3. Or MGS ground zeroes. Just plain disappointing. I think we can all agree that bungees departure was regrettable.
"The Weapon" is the worst iteration of Cortana we've ever scene. And she contradicts lore. Literally when Cortana was made, she was told "Are you willing to sacrifice yourself to protect earth" (Which she did in Halo 2-3 without a second thought) And "The Hag-- (i mean) Weapon" Gets triggered when Chef tried to decommission her. (Her purpose was to be deleted to WFT lol) Not to mention all her Talking Down to and Disrespecting Chef just comes across as modern cringe feminist girl bossing.
Grippe hook is a nonsense as Spartan soldiers are extremely heavy. It’s not breaking the game and it’s unrealistic. Halo lost its identity long time ago. I think the best way to play a halo if you revisit them on their actual era of consoles. So you need hook up a 360 to a non 4k tv and have a blast. The originals are the best on a crt tv’s.
Yes and no. It would've been bad, but it wouldn't have been *this* fucking bad. Destiny isn't dead, Halo is. That's the difference. And at least Bungie wouldn't have changed absolutely everything about Halo's iconography and formula like Bonobo Industries did

Infinite has zero reason to be open world. It's to it's detriment even. The game is worse off being open world. What is the obsession with games becoming open world sandboxes? What ever happened to tightly crafted linear levels in AAA games?
The ending of this video aged like milk. I used to be a part of the Masterchief Vs Doomguy debate, how masterchief would beat doomguy easily, its hillarious how now doom eternal has been such a main stream game that not only did it create an entire new genre of run and gun games, but that now halo had to copy the grapling hook mechanic and the maykr boss fight from doom eternal, masterchief ot handed a satisfying fat L by doomguy, as it should always have been, thanks to 343 industries
I didn't even bother to finish the game. After capturing FOVs and hunting bounties the game became uninspiring/boring really fast. Uninstalled and went back to MCC.
What’s sad is most game devs suck… but still have a job. Yet game devs that were good but failed bc they were forced to make a bad game (Visceral : Making Dead Space, Dante Inferno, even Army Of Two Devils Cartel was good. But Battlefield Hardline tanked and DS3 Did, but instead of EA taking responsibility they axed Visceral)…
Thank you for making this video. I played the mcc on pc and felt so excited for each new added game, playing every campaign and hundreds of hours of multiplayer. I was so excited for halo infinite. When it released I played the campaign for a few hours and the multiplayer a few times, but then could never bring myself to play it again. I just assumed that since I had grown older I no longer enjoyed video games so I stopped playing them for over a year. I recently realised that I do still love gaming, Halo Infinite was just incredibly bland and uninspired. I would never have been able to force myself to play through the whole campaign, and I appreciate you doing that for us. This was a great video and I am glad you made it. I love your videos and I'm happy to hear you're in a better place than you were when infinite released.
Personally, I refuse to buy MCC on PC until they include local co-op, which sadly will never happen. The fact that 3rd party software is needed for what has been a staple of the Halo franchise since the beginning is a complete slap in the face. I don't want to give 343 any money. If that means I never play Halo again, even the best way to play the older titles, so be it. They made their bed. Let them sit in it.
Well, there was goldeneye that did it first on console way back in 97. It was the first game to have multi-mission based objectives in an era where getting to the end of the level was the only goal. Halo may have mainstreamed the FPS genre on console but Goldeneye was the very first successful console-only shooter that paved the way for it.
God I love how renn uses the environment to his advantage. Like turning some business' waste management bin into a green screen. Innovative game design indeed. We will need to nerf that in the next patch.
Ultimately what fans want from Halo, and what Microsoft want from Halo, are entirely separate and mutually exclusive. The fans want a return to form, Microsoft want recurrent consumer spending. Bungie created and completed Halo as a trilogy, then pumped out two spin offs/prequels to see out their contract. Narratively, Halo ended definitively after 3. Everything since has been Microsoft (via 343, many people like to separate them, they are the same entity) seeking the best way to monetise the IP. The world isn't the same as it was when Bungie developed Halo. The days of compelling single player campaigns and inventive, intergrated multiplayer without monetisation are long gone. Halo will not return to what it was, it can't. Everyone needs to finally accept that.
I don't understand why a) fans buy hook line and sinker the contradictions in a game a studio says the game will have (ie open world but sandbox campaign) and b why fans continue to buy a product they should have let end a long time ago. I mean look, 343 is a steaming dumpster fire but the fans sure didn't help in that regard by buying their products and being shocked every time it didn't live up to their expectations. And now the Fandom is split between the old and new Halo and there is a wide gap between them imo
I feel like at this point talking about Halo isn't even worth it anymore. This franchise hit an all time low in 2012 and ELEVEN YEARS LATER nothing has changed. This is fucking ridiculous. 343bola are professional trolls.
i've never played a COD outside of ww2 and warzone, but i thought those 2 COD reviews were the funniest things ever. i actually subscribed because of them and then was excited to see your past content. Renn you might not think those cod reviews were that great, but just know, to me it was the funniest thing I had seen on youtube in forever. I was cracking up for like a week straight at work lol
One of my biggest issues with the game was the complete lack of depth in the world, there is no development other than the surface level and there never will be. The open world can provide tonnes of possibilities for gameplay, saving squads of marines, should spawn missions where those same units that you saved are aiding the war effort, rng will determine their success without your help and every soldier saved should matter, maybe even being able to call them in to reinforce and secure positions, setting up little bases with unique benefits for each one, then having you make the choice of which benefits are worth having. Find a powerful vehicle in the wild? Drive it back to your main base and it will spawn there now, your men will take them into combat and give them an edge in taking over the map, without your necessary interaction with them. There are just more misses than hits in this game and it's a real shame, a tighter more scripted series of open areas, linked together by the narrative would be far more effective, both in story telling and gameplay than the bland open world we got.
@@alexanderrobins7497 the cut content op is mentioning is literally 75% of the game infinite was meant to be, the only reason they cut that 75% is because 343 couldn't develop it. The forest we see in infinite was literally meant to be a tutorial zone for a quarter of the story
THANK YOU for pointing out the issues with the decisions to go open-world and the grapple hook. For some reason so many seem afraid to criticize these implementations, like they're coping hard.
One thing to note is that 343's idea of a difficult boss fight is how far away the boss can one shot you from. Hammer Chieftains zoom across the entire map to revert you back to your last checkpoint. Now that I think about it, it's really just melee bosses. That is until you find a method to cheese them. The final elite boss in my playthrough got stuck in place and I shot him in the face. Also skimmers are not an aerial unit like drones. They just appear to float. They can't still fall off cliffs and take fall damage. They also carry long range weapons, throw dynamo grenades (which I like to call "win grenades"), and rockets making them incredibly deadly on top of their awkard hitbox. Skimmers are nothing like drones. They're arguably worse. Like in your video, any time I've played multiplayer my enjoyment is always cut short by some bug or sometimes gameplay change they made between halo games that was a "if it ain't broke, fix it" sort of change.
Halo 1-3 were a great trilogy, Halo ODST was a novelty with a fun shift in gameplay and perspective, and Halo reach was a great stand alone. Never played Halo wars 1 - 2 but I think they had the right idea in telling there own story with nothing to do with nothing to do with the events and characters in the other games. Every other games are just increasingly shitty call of duty games with a anime halo texture pack
I have to say, although 5's story is awful, and the gameplay doesn't feel very Halo, I sometimes find myself believing it has a more fun campaign than Infinite...
Halo's original trilogy being amazing is really set it up for dissatisfaction from the fans. There were two options after Bungie left: 1. Keep going but with colossal expectations from the fans 2. Stop making Halo and deal with people wanting more Microsoft went with #1 primarily because of money, but also because of the fans wanting more. Many say that #2 is the best option, but deep down, we all want more. I bet money that a separate reality where #2 was done, there is colossal demand for a new game. Dont get me wrong, the ones botching the games are Microsoft and 343, but there is more to this dynamic than greedy studios. It drives me up a wall when video game fans give the studios so much shit without realizing the bad products have high demand from them in the first place. If you want this franchise to rest, *mean it.* Stop paying money and move on. If they get money anyway then either you are in the minority and its actually good for most, or the fans don't have the stones to actually let it go. 343 has the capability to make good Halo. Halo Wars 2 is an example of that and somehow always forgotten when its arguably their best story. I still wonder what even happened on the Ark after the campaign and DLC. But I guess piecing the puzzle peices together is one of many things they just can't grasp. We can bend their arm into making good Halo, but we just fork over money>expect it to be different>complain>repeat.
I genuinely have no idea how it's possible that with all the improvements in all facets of games over the years, the AI in just gets worse and worse. Remember F.E.A.R.? Remember Half Life? Remember Halo?!
I remember playing the alpha flight on MP. It ran like absolute dogshit, I uninstalled it immediately. My PC was running into overheating issues it never had before. Their other game I tried, MCC, would make my GPU fan spin so erraticly i thought it was going to break (EVGA 3080). I promptly also uninstalled that. It turns out the game did take the lives of quite a few 3080s.

Absolutely.

The worst thing about 343 is how much story happens off screen and between games…. Still can’t forgive them them for not finishing the Cortona story on screen.
They did finish Cortana's story... And then decided to continue it and destroy her character.
this has been bugging me for the longest time, not the story, people complaining they need to read a bunch of books or whatever to understand the story.
between 4 and 5, yes theres alot of story but nothing that was too important that needed a lot of explaining, 5 seemed to explain enough ingame. Now with infinite it makes sense.
@@dg7347 "Nothing that was too important"
- How the fuck is Cortana suddenly alive again
- Where the hell did all these Spartans come from
- Why is Buck a Spartan-VI after previously being an ODST. What happened to his old squad
- Who the fuck is the Warden Eternal
- Where and when did Chief suddenly buddy up with his old team who have had no notable mention in the previous games
- Why is Halsey a prisoner of the Covenant and what happened to her arm
And no, I don't consider a side mode in Halo 4 that take weeks to release content after the main game as a supplement. A large portion of people want to experience Halo for the main story and that's where they should expect it to be contained. Excusing these things is the exact reason why Halo 5 and Halo Infinite have so many complaints around how they don't even feel connected to the previous game.

-halo 4 showed us lots of spartans, if you mean why specifically the ones we play as in 5, why does it matter? no one really questioned playing as chief, so why now with them?
-halo 4 spartan ops, soldiers can volunteer for the spartan 4 program, so i assume he did just that. where's his team? if it was that important im sure it would be given its own game.

I think the campaign seemed good until it ended with nothing discernable happening in it.
to me the campaign was good, not because of the story (it was bad) but because of the environments and gameplay.
The campaign was incredibly fun imo. The story was generally whatever
Yet the game still got 9s from almost every journalist. They're spineless
after finishing Infinites campaign i was really confused how sudden it ended.
not because the story ended on a cliffhanger, but because it was over without ever entering any different biome and without any real evolution of gameplay.
just look at how artificial Zeta looks, even for an halo ring.
and you want to tell me this ring ONLY got "generic planes with lush forest here and there"?
this could've easily been a "classic" linear halo campaign with the development resources spend somewhere else.
but no, instead we gotta play what's essentially modern Far Cry disguised as a Halo title.
and even Far Cry with it's monotone open-world gameplay got more variety than Infinite.
how could anyone in theire right mind look at this game and genuinly say "yes, THIS is the Halo we'll build upon for the next decade"?
Campaign is still buggy af even after all this time. They don't care.

Yeah a lot of gamers were being optimistic at the time. But I'm glad most are finally realizing how disappointing the game really is.

But no, everyone thinks they can be a Tolkien. Then, since they’re not Tolkien, they end up over explaining every element of their setting, even if it would be way cooler in the audience’s imagination.

You could make Serious game modes or dorking around game modes or just all out crazy Overpowered madness game modes.

Adding a version of Zanzibar where the wheel doesn't spin is basically the perfect metaphor for 343's handling of the franchise.
I like the game, but you're right that the multiplayer maps are too claustrophobic and maze-like. 343 is more obsessed with making Halo an e-sport instead of making it fun. They failed at both objectives.

You should be grateful you didn’t start playing halo until it was in a tight little package for you on PC 😂
And then there was Perfect Dark and three TimeSplitters games, and Unreal Championship
This right here. I have no faith that Halo or any of my other favorite franchises will recover in the next decade or so.
Havent played a halo since halo 4, that was such an obvious step down.... heck i own halo 5 and never installed it
I feel like at this point talking about Halo isn't even worth it anymore.
And yet you can only blame joe staton for that fu€k up HE was the reason why the VAST majority of the game was cut 🙄
@@benclark4823
Sometimes content is cuts because it would actively ruin the experience.
@@alexanderrobins7497 the cut content op is mentioning is literally 75% of the game infinite was meant to be, the only reason they cut that 75% is because 343 couldn't develop it. The forest we see in infinite was literally meant to be a tutorial zone for a quarter of the story
im not mad about the cuts though, i doubt if 343 actually tried they could have delivered. i just wish the map wasn't just forest plus water
Same here.
Agreed. 5 wasn't great, but it was still more engaging than Infinite and at least had some decently made graphics.
The only recent Halo game I care for is Halo Wars 2, and I give 343 zero credit for that.
Halo's original trilogy being amazing is really set it up for dissatisfaction from the fans. There were two options after Bungie left:
1. Keep going but with colossal expectations from the fans
2. Stop making Halo and deal with people wanting more
Microsoft went with #1 primarily because of money, but also because of the fans wanting more.
