Modern audiences are the same audiences that played games like ten years ago wishing they still got the games then had over ten years ago lmao. Such a horrible marketing slogan.
One of the biggest red flags for me is when a developer says they're going "back to their roots." It's a marketing term meant to trick the fans into thinking a dev is going to recapture their glory days, when in reality they have no interest in bringing back old school mechanics and the like.
So them saying they're going back to their roots is a signal that they aren't. I would much rather go with the argument that "going back to our roots" betrays a lack of any strong vision for the game and only wanting to turn back to something that worked before

Doom 2016 really was an exception for these rules, this video made me realize just how much of a miracle it was. It was in development hell for 8 years, key leadership left and was replaced, they eventually restarted from scratch with a promise to "take the series back to its roots", and were not at all confident in the game all the way up to release to the point where they even withheld review copies. All the signs were pointing to it being an abysmall failure, but it ended up being universally loved and basically ushering in a whole new fps renaissance.
Yeah and unfortunately EVERY game after 2016 is complete and utter trash with fake reviews. Who tf thinks that gamers want graphics over a good story?? Why are developers shoving s*** like starfield, Just cause 4, Rdr 2 all of them are mediocre with "good graphics" that is not what we want!
There's no such thing as unbiased reviews. The creator of this video doesn't enjoy/like Horizon Zero Dawn so would you say his review of it could be unbiased? The answer is no.
@@rafsandomierz5313They aren't that subjective. Unless we're including who don't like videogames at all. Alot of properties get very popular and alot of people enjoy them. If we lived in a more subjective world nothing would be popular.

Ironically, Konami's slot machines were their large income stream, until a Japanese law regarding them forced their hand into going back into game development. That's why you see a lot of the these new SH announcements, and the announcement/development of the MGS Master Collection.

Easy to say, but hyper is an uncontrollable monster, even if you don't feel FOMO, When they announce something from your Farovite franchise, the seed of hype is already in you, whether it will "germinate" or not depends on the rest.
“Over hype” is exactly what happened with me and We Happy Few. I’d been supporting the game since the beginning and what they put out in the end was still an amazing game that I’m happy to have seen to the end, but was hyped so much in the beginning there’s no way they could’ve met the expectations they’d set.
I mean I’d been waiting 4 years and they released a functional game that looked like what I paid for. Lots of crowd funded games don’t make it that far so it could’ve been worse 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
A masterpiece co-op game that was lightning in a bottle for sure. Damn that was their magnum opus and I wish others would try making co op games like that instead of only live service ones.
@@Caliboyjosh10 Actually I thought that such games are for kids. Then I played Astro's Playroom and it completely blew me away with its graphics, gameplay, soundtrack and of course the nostalgia. Not even games like Uncharted 4 (which is a masterpiece imo) or my old favourites from the PS1 and PS2 era. What’s crazy is I have been able to tell almost every single time when a game is going to be a scam/horrible on launch but my “friends” will still preorder and whatnot because they say it will be different. Companies will make money aslong as people stay stupid.
But we do need those people though, it's a bit of a symbiotic relationship or sort. The skeptics and the careful one wait, while the excited, hyped and loyal one will try it first. Without them how will we now? Game "journalists", reviewer? They mostly are paid for the reviews.
Ubisoft has turned itself around. EA on the other hand... Still I only ever play assassins creed and I wont be playing one for many years no seeing valhalla is so huge. Too large of a game.
@IHateThatUA-camDisplaysYourFullName Respawn is falling? They are opening more branches and expanding lol. Apex Legends had its biggest season yet just this season and Jedi Fallen Order was extremely well received and it's sequel will probably be fine too. Titanfall 2 was dead the minute Apex Legends became an success. You don't support a game that loses you money when you have one that brings you wheelbarrows full.
I would add massive advertising budgets to the list. They often use aggressive advertising when they know a gaming isn't going to meet expectations in hopes the preorders and day one sales will make them a profit before word gets out. Not having review embargos lift until the day the game launches is another part of this tactic.
@@joemommaoramma7090 I agree with you 100% but in order to avoid a bad game at launch a person has to keep up on video game news and watch reviews. And, casual gamers do not do this and are not aware of publishers' tactics.
my main issue with live services isnt even the battle passes, its the fact they can just be completely thrown away in a near instant if the devs decide its not making enought money theres nothing more infuriating than having a good game that you enjoy have the plug pulled without warning, you feel cheated out of the money you may have spent on it and you wont be able to enjoy it anymore due to lack of players
Except it was made by a garbage studio that has a reputation for having 0 respect for the series they work on. Their Castlevania games spit in the face of the franchise and its fans. Cyberpunk was the first hype train that I boarded. Never bought a ticket for any of the other trains that came prior, but everything around cyberpunk seemed promising. Specifically that the gameplay trailers looked fun and finished. It was only when the game kept getting delayed that I started to worry.
Same here. It didn’t help that they just blatantly lied about so many features that just weren’t there at launch (and still aren’t). The community hyped it up so much. The trailers were really cool. It was in development for nearly a decade so I thought surely it would be finished at launch. Never preordering a game that isn’t developed by FromSoft ever again
I think a sign that people often ignore is that when a game gets more than 1 or 2 delays. 1 is fine as that could be the developer team wanting to polish the game, but if it goes over 2 delays, then that's a sign there's something fucked up with the management of the game and what comes out is always,if not underwhelming, then a total mess.
Honestly The Witcher 3 on release was really shitty, tons of bugs and issues with dialogue and screen clipping. It took a few years to line it out. I’m curios to see Cyberpunk in another couple years, see if they lined it out or turned it over to modders to do it for em
From what I've heard, No Man's Sky is coming strong. The Developers stuck to their guns, fixed their game, and have gotten praise from the players as of latest updates.
Kudos to Hello Games for redeeming themselves but in the long run its still bad from a game preservation stand point. Games that are released broken, buggy, incomplete, etc, etc that require day one patches and what not will be horrible for the games longevity. Imagine 10yrs from now you are at a retro video game store wanting to pick up an old Xbox One to play the games you remember playing years ago and you get it home to find out the game is practically impossible to play or is missing massive amounts of content because you're unable to update the game with all the patches, dlc, etc. So many games nowadays suffer from this and in the future you won't be able to come back to these games because they'll just be a complete mess to play.
@@-KillaWatt- 7th gen consoles (ie X360 and PS3) are the last consoles where you could expect to have a playable game inside a physical medium, and even then you are probably missing decently sized patches. 8th gen consoles might as well be digital only, and 9th gen consoles basically are digital only. That is part of why I moved to PC: if I'm going to get games digitally, I'd rather have them on a free account linked to a continuously evolving platform rather than be locked to a vendor and to a specific piece of hardware.
"Rare who were known for making platformers and kinect sport games then completely pivoted and made the first person Sea of thieves" Who's gonna tell him.
Even if he fumbled the wording i feel like it still holds true. Sea of Thieves has nothing to do with any of their previous work, the only similaritiy is the first person perspective.
Yeah Rare wasnt a great example there for a couple reasons. Firstly, Rare has always been a variety developer, but also modern Rare and 90s Rare are two entirely different studios. Pretty much no one from those days is there. There's a few more iffy examples used throughout the video even though I generally agree with the video.
Ya knocking Sea of Thieves was the only weird one to me. I thought SoT was amazing at vanilla, I had tons of fun sailing with friends and solo/duo slooping with my brother. I still back on for about a week or two every couple big patches, about twice a year to check out what’s going on. We just get drunk and high on discord while we look for pvp and then just rush everyone we see. It’s a great time.
My video game red flags are: - being overhyped (just like I had no interest in cp2077 until patch 1.5) - focusing on graphics instead of gameplay (probably just a polished crap with no good story) - battle pass (just self-explanatory) - releasing new game from old franchise (never went good) - revolutionary mechanics (about 10% are really good games, but most just don't work as intended)
- releasing new game from old franchise (never went good) i beg to differ, case in point: doom and doom eternal they are the exception, not the rule... but for me it means it's not absolute
I would add: Trailers or artificial "real" gameplays where the player does everything perfect as if he were a professional, little damage, no consequences, everything seems artificially "too perfect"
Recapturing lightning in a bottle isn't always a bad thing. Freedom Planet (Sonic) and BallisticNG (Wipeout) are both amazing examples, though the devs involved were just fans of the games and weren't involved in the companies that made them
I feel like this is a different category of "inspired and innovative" as its new people building off historic influence. As opposed to the same old people trying to do something they already did years after the fact.
@@ethanrice1102 Yeah I think he just misinterpreted what that meant. Those games (which are more so inspired) are not trying to be like their inspirations. I think a bonus one are small indie games getting large publishers. Deep Silver in my opinion is not talked enough because they have a track record of picking up smaller studio's games as the publisher and they turn into a AA mess.
Hello Games deserves recognition for the work they put into NMS. That game has become something incredible. I'm also surprised you didn't mention Jeff Kaplan leaving, that was a big one.
@@Vanadium Eh, the lead dev has gone on record to say the game is intended to be a sandbox in the purest sense and said they didn't expect it to be the kind of game everyone could like. AS it is, I'd say they accomplished their goal. It's a make your own fun wanderlust fulfilling simulator with enough interactions to keep people with ADHD from getting bored like normal walking simulators do.
The problem with the "pivot" tell is that it isn't enough to know if the developer is changing the kind of game they make. You need to know who works at the developer. The people who worked at BioWare during KOTOR and the first two Mass Effect games have largely moved on to other studios or companies. Respawn hired a ton of people between TItanfall 2 and Apex Legends and Jedi Fallen Order. Pivots work when the makeup of a studio has changed or adapted to meet the demand. And even games that should be within a studio's wheelhouse sometimes don't work (e.g. Mass Effect Andromeda, Battlefield V/Battlefield 2042) when the studio isn't comprised of the same talent that used to be there.
Tbh the hype train has never effected me because although im an optimist i find it helps to approach products such as videos games with a hint of pessimism. It keeps you asking questions about the quality of the product. you wanna find out as much as possible before forking over that £60. Its great to be excited for whats to come, but too much has a high chance of leaving you with disappointment.
I was planning on saying something about how Ubisoft didn't really fall into any of the categories, but was surprised to see them get their very own category all to themselves
I think the 1st point is less about developers being not in their "field" and more about why they decided to switch genres - is it because they have a really cool idea that would fit well with mechanics they worked on prior, or is because they just want to capitalize on success of some of the popular games in the same genre? In case on Hello Games, I don't think they were trying to capitalize on anything, it was simply overhyped and the idea, while cool, didn't really work well on it's own, but when they added more features it became very fun to play
Bro from the opening "I'm at GameStop because games need to stop sucking", I was invested. The Disintegration joke got me. So simple but so effective. Nice video man
I was super confused whenever you said Ghostwire: Tokyo "didn't turn out so well" because it was actually really well received by most people. I can't tell if you just overlooked that or just never played it. (If you haven't played it I highly recommend it not only is the combat super fluid but it's visually amazing, although the story is lacking in length and writing to some degree it's still all in all an amazing game.) Still love the content though I just thought this one thing was off.
You do that by waiting for it to come out and then playing it (without paying for it, choose your method), or watch a video of the gameplay. Then buy it if it fits your tastes.
And if that's not enough for you, just forget about it. Literally. Check it out when it actually comes out, and ignore the marketing that really just wants you to pre-order their game without getting to see the quality of it for yourself.
It's very straight forward, not sure why you need the obvious explained to you, but here goes. If none of these warning signs appear, and if the studio has a good, recent, track record of delivering quality products, then it's likely that the game will be good.
We all knew Elden Ring would be good and it was, how did we know? Because it was their 6th souls game. This time in an open world Most bad games promise the moon, or they come from a company that couldn't make a glass of lemonade correctly.
Your segment on predictions is exactly why I mostly get excited to play games that Ive never heard of before, or games that are still being talked about years after release, because I will only hear about that sort of stuff if the game is actually really good

Developers can branch out and make different types of games, however, all that really means is that you have to tempter your expectations and wait until the game releases to see what everyone thinks
I honestly like the way Nintendo does their marketing, previews, and trailers for their games. Most of the time, those trailers are all in game footage taken and edited into their trailers, hardly do they ever do CGI trailers; and in most cases they only release information about their games once they're in a state of quality that Nintendo finds appropriate. 8 times out of 10, Nintendo makes sure their big projects are at a high quality standard before being shipped, especially if it's their respective IPs. I hardly ever get hyped for games anymore, unless it is by a developer that I've purchased their games multiple times, like Platinum Games, Monolith Soft, Supergiant Games, etc. Where their titles may be a bit more niche, but they do hold a higher standard of quality for their games. I've learned from over the years, hyping a game up is just setting oneself for failure, because to a degree that game won't live up to those expectations; unless the game itself, from the developer/publisher, is claiming they will be(which is just false marketing and lying to the face of the consumer). In terms of Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, I don't think it's a bad thing that the game is aiming to hit that itch that Jet Set Radio left. Many fans were disappointed that it never got a sequel or any kind of official remake/remaster(I think it hasn't at least). So this is practically, "Fine, I'll do it myself!". As long as the game doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and is like Jet Set Radio in spirit, but polished and fun with support from the devs; I think that's absolutely fine. Though, I do wish the art style was a bit more...less blocky like, and could go closer to like we've seen Hi-Fi Rush did; though I'm sure it's an stylistic choice by them, of course.
I think it is unfair and out of place to name No Mans Sky in the "Live-Service" examples. The strongest connection to the live-service concept is the ability to pay for upgrades, advantages, skins and often expansions - in addition to a recurring FOMO mechanic such as Battle Passes. The ones mentioned all have one or more, but No Mans Sky is just a game they have since updated 20 times without charging additional $'s. At least that is my impression of NMS after playing it for roughly 20 hours about two years ago. Oh and also, great video as always. Looking forward to more uploads.
I think in the live service section general trend chasing could be added. Like all the First Person Modern Military Shooters that crawled out of the woodwork when CoD became popular. Or Hello Neighbor being reworked into a mascot horror game a la FNAF instead of being its own thing.
This video has a lot of terrible takes. If anything from these games it has more to do with look who's financing these game and stay away like ubisoft or EA.
Sea of thieves was pretty well received gameplay wise, the biggest problem people had was bugs and a lack of content. Platonic didn't just disappear they made another yooka laylee game that was really well received.
Sea of Thieves and No Man's Sky are both AMAZING now. Years of work can change how a game is on launch, we just don't get that from AAA companies anymore.
Playtronic didn't faded into obscurity, years later they Yooka-Laylee At the Impossible Lair, one of the best side scroller platformers out there. It is a very well made platformer inspired by classic DKC, but with its own spin with the Tonic modifiers and the Beetalion.

Like with the no man's sky example he brought up, he completely ignored to bring up the fact the developers have fixed the game and added a ton of free dlc into the game and stuff like that
@@louiepikmin3184 Well yeah, the point of the video isn't to take into consideration the present state of games that had bad releases. It's to tell when a game is GONNA release in a bad state. It doesn't matter if those games redeem themselves, that's not the point. Doesn't matter if it becomes fixed later on. The entire vid is about the "warning signs" that point towards a game that's gonna release in poor shape. How do people not realize this?
That Ubi choosing the worst choice that make sure they stay suck, they put their games for rent with ludicrous price so we don't buy their games, we rent it and if we don't play it, the games just gone from the library.
It's sad that you failed to mention how playtonic later redeemed themselves with yooka laylee and the impossible lair, which is an amazing tribute to donkey kong country that is also able to set itself appart. That game really needs more recognition. Also while i do understand your scepticism for bomb rush cyberfunk, team reptile has had an amazing track record, lethal league blaze is probably one of my favorite fighting games ever made, and it has become one of the very few online games i play regularly because of how sound the fighting mechanics are and how well the jail with the aesthetics, with brilliant character designs and music. I have faith on them, since so far they have not failed at making a good game.
Also, I'm not sure there is any overlap between the staff of Bomb Rush and Jet Set besides having Naganuma. It is a coin flip if a studio with key staff from the original series recreates lightning (Bayonetta) or ends up with a dud (Mighty No 9). If anything, there is more cause for concern from how Yooka Laylee was a very ambitious concept for a kickstarter and Mighty No 9 promising a billion platforms and focusing on merch over getting a core concept in line. Yooka Laylee was more marketable as Banjo successor but it would have been more practical to start with the 2D game, though I'm sure there is some learning which came from YL. MN9 was already one of the more simpler MM concepts to work from but Battle Network would have had potential as a template, Red Ash (Legends) was not the pick even if we got a can kicking demo and anime out of it. Not before MN9 proved itself either.
Another sign can be overly relying on or pushing the idea of Celebrities as VAs or character models. Examples include Cyberpunk, Death Stranding (that one was also lightning in a bottle), and Phantom Pain.
Most of these exampels is "Game bad because developers switched style game = bad" but a lot of the games that he brings up is bad because they are not finished and become good later on when they are fixed.
Outerworlds was a stepping stone, and the game wasn't broken it just lacked a more enthralling story. Obsidian made the groundwork for future sequels and as someone who played it on GAMEPASS, I'm content with it.

@@Yougottubed89 thats why you wait until real players start to mention the problems the game have, and in the case of cyberpunk cd project only send copies for pc that run a lot better than console
I was thinking the exact same. I'm pretty sure Rare has dabbled in quite a few genres/styles before. Sea of Thieves is definitely NOT their first first-person game.
The video says not to trust a game that's completely different than the great games the studio made, and also not to trust a game that's very similar to a great game the creators made hmmm
If anyone would include bugs in their game reveal and embrace it like "well it is a work in progress so that's to be expected" then that would sell me on the game more than any epic cgi trailer ever could.
Horizon is honestly good. Like extremely good, it allows basically any approach you want, traps, stealth, mele combat, ranged combat, and grenades. The visual fidelity is absolutely ludicrous. And the combat, maybe hard, but it's honestly good.
Another trick that does not demand that you are an expert, like Renn, is to simply wait! Let there go 6-12 month and see what people say, if things fixed, if there is "pay to win" and so on. You both save money and can be sure the game is one you like by seeing lots of videos about it. :-)
On the Bomb Rush Cyberfunk segment, I am absolutely confused by your statement that the people who are making that, are the same people that made Jet Set Radio Future. Which is absolutely not true. Team Reptile is from the Netherlands, while JSRF was developed by SEGA in Japan, by Japanese. The only link regarding staff is the musician Hideki Naganuma...
I think a sign that people often ignore is that when a game gets more than 1 or 2 delays. 1 is fine as that could be the developer team wanting to polish the game, but if it goes over 2 delays, then that's a sign there's something wrong with the management of the game and what comes out is always,if not underwhelming, then a total mess.
I'd say it depends on how long the delays last rather than the delay amount. 2 3 month delays (unheard of really) wouldn't be as worrying to me as a 2 week long delay or 2 2 week long delays.
@@FatheredPuma81 My thing also would be the track record of the studio past couple games. If they were no good, but no delays - might be good if upcoming one gets delayed. If the opposite, past 2 games delayed but were excellent, I'm inclined to be patient for the new one. So 2 or 3 delays but you get Witcher 3...next time it happens with that studio, you're prob waiting for a good game to be excellent. Really though, he's still only guessing. It's educated but still a guess. If in doubt, wait it out. A couple weeks is good too see how players actually review the game (cuz the critics these days are mostly awful).
@@RealHaydo Get what you're trying to say,but not always the case.Yes having a delay or two is fine, but multiple ones pass that point usually mean that here are serious development/management problems with the game and if it comes out at all,it's likely to be a mess. This is one of the situations where more delays aren't necessarily good for the game.
Well, if things go as expected then, GTA 6 should be an absolute mess when you think about how many big names left Rockstar Games during development. Hopefully this is one of the few examples where we get pleasantly surprised

No mans sky is actual suceeding as a live service games and has almost completed what it's been advertised to be. That is kind of disapointing that it needs a lot more years to be actually fun and good which it is now and can be seen by doubling it's player count in 2 months. Also Rare absolutely nailed sea of thieves.
Towards the release of cyberpunk, I was all on board with it, and at the time I didn’t have a device to actually play it on so I just watched people play it, and I loved the memes and the broken gameplay and I just fell in love with it. And so I got a job bought a pc and I play it to this day
TLOU Pt 2 was one of the most polished games I've played in recent memory at launch and did not appear to have a troubled development, iirc, lmao. SoT was and is pretty great as well. Great points otherwise!
"did not appear to have a troubled development" The cracks showed mostly the year before it was released. Firstly it was delayed several times, then reports came out saying that the workers had been mistreated, then it was delayed "indefinitely" citing stuff like Covid for the reason. Then the game's plot was leaked which caused a massive amount of controversy but also led to the game being released about a month or two later.
Coming in a year later, its interesting how Starfield came out pretty well polished, but was disappointing anyway for an uninspired gameplay loop. And I get that 2077 was broken af on launch, but I purchased it a few months ago and dropped 200 hours into and it still sticks with me. Some games disappoint on launch but are worth revisiting or waiting longer for. No Man's Sky, Sea of Thieves, 2077, Master Chief Collection, and even Rainbow 6 Siege launched disastrously but made up for things in the end.

@@RennsReviews Yeah, publishers kept backing out until it looked like just Konami would be there. So the plug was pulled. It was full of cringe but E3 was a fun experience. Especially during the console wars.
Starfield may end up being a stinker, but to say Bethesda's last success was Fallout 3 is just factually incorrect. You may not personally like Bethesda games, but Skyrim is their best selling game of all time, as well as being highly rated. While Bethesda games are notoriously buggy, rarely is it in a way that impedes a player's enjoyment of the game, often times being quite humorous, like Giant's clubs launching you into the sky.
A lot of these games eventually got better over time... but yeah, what you're saying is definitely true. I know infinite wasn't going to go well and I was thinking so because of similar reasons. Same with Starfield too. I feel like all the best games nowadays are either older games that are still supported or indie dev games
battlefield 5 is actually really good and ive been enjoying it so much lately , its just sad devs stopped supporting it early to work on 2042 that ended up being a disaster
Very important video, having this conversation is the first step. We really need to stop buying into the hype, you were right about Diablo IV but it made them a fortune again
Starfield, for me, has crashed all of one time since launch (about 80hr of play) and the only bugs I've had that impacted my gameplay in any meaningful way were 1. NPCs parking in tight spaces where I can't move past them (unfortunately a regular occurrence), and 2. trying to talk to someone when I'm too close to objects and the dialogue cut scene points me at a wall (happened once). Bugs have been SUPREMELY LESS than I think anyone expected in a Bethesda game. That said, the system requirements were also lowballed and my 2yr old (top of the line at the time) PC can barely handle the game on medium and it runs HOT (like 85-95C) and I can only play for a couple hours before it's throttling down. Absurd that a two year old system can't run this game at the very least on medium with no issues at all. If anything, they oversold us on how many people should be able to play the game without upgrades (SSD notwithstanding). I bought oodles of merch and decor for streaming... and I can't even stream and play at the same time. So until I can upgrade (just bought my wife a new computer so it'll be a while), that is cash sitting on a shelf waiting to be useful in the future after I spend a bunch more cash. >_
I think you should take your own advice with GTA6. Practically all the key people that made those games have left Rockstar, some of them are confirmed to have left on bad terms as well.

One of the biggest red flags for me is when a developer says they're going "back to their roots." It's a marketing term meant to trick the fans into thinking a dev is going to recapture their glory days, when in reality they have no interest in bringing back old school mechanics and the like.
I don't entirely disagree, but counterpoint: Breath of the Wild.
So them saying they're going back to their roots is a signal that they aren't.
I would much rather go with the argument that "going back to our roots" betrays a lack of any strong vision for the game and only wanting to turn back to something that worked before

Idk if Capcom was ever saying that but they've sure done an incredible job at that with the Resident Evil remakes

Still love the content though I just thought this one thing was off.
It's really easy to tell us to doubt everything. Now you've gotta tell us how you know when a game will be good.

I'm sorry but No Man's Sky may have felt incomplete at the beggining but to this date, Hello games still releases updates for the game, no pay wall behind it or grindy battlepasses, you may wanna replay it again, trust, me, there's so much more to do now
Developers can branch out and make different types of games, however, all that really means is that you have to tempter your expectations and wait until the game releases to see what everyone thinks
Agreed. You know a Nintendo game sucks as soon as they announce it. There's no secret that it's going to be bad.

And then hypes Rockstar, despite their Online modes being constantly cash grabby hackathon trash and forgetting games like LA Noir.
This video has a lot of terrible takes. If anything from these games it has more to do with look who's financing these game and stay away like ubisoft or EA.
Yeah, but No Man's Sky was absolute tripe at launch, and was for a very long time afterwards. Also, Horizon is meh.
Sea of thieves was pretty well received gameplay wise, the biggest problem people had was bugs and a lack of content.
Platonic didn't just disappear they made another yooka laylee game that was really well received.
Yeah, I was done when he said, “You play as a chick named after a piece of metal.” This is 🗑️
Sea of Thieves and No Man's Sky are both AMAZING now.
A lot of this video is pretty ignorant so whatever lol

Yeah most of this video is taking games that might've not lived up to expectations and just blindly shitting on them without doing any research.
You should make a sequel video to showcase games that were launched poorly, but updated beautifully from then to now.

Yeah BRSF loos like it will be fine with how the raw gameplay looks.
Literally the only person who worked on Jet Set radio who's working on Bomb Rush is Hideki Naganuma. Dude did zero fucking research, hard L
Another sign can be overly relying on or pushing the idea of Celebrities as VAs or character models.

Outerworlds was a stepping stone, and the game wasn't broken it just lacked a more enthralling story. Obsidian made the groundwork for future sequels and as someone who played it on GAMEPASS, I'm content with it.

Agreed. It can make for a good challenge and dynamism. Grid 2 had this for drivers leaving their cars on the track after getting eliminated or wrecked and it worked well. Burnout paradise was going to have this too but they scrapped the idea along with many other stuff
This video had so many red flags
Dev history: citing horizon as a example just bc you didn't like, I hate souls like game but they're objectively good games you can't call them bad just bc YOU can't play
Live service: no man's sky is not a live service, it was not launched as one and is still not one, just bc the game have updates is not categorize as live service, the game has no microtransactions and none of the updates are paid
Reacaputering light in a bottle : outer worlds was great and when it was launch it was considered fallout but done right as it came close to the 76 launch
though hello games launched no mans sky in an incomplete near unplayable state, that game serves as one of the best redemption stories i've ever seen and now it's an amazing sci fi sandbox that now includes so much more than was ever originally promised and it's all put together amazingly
No Man's Sky has literally no microtransactions but still provides a wealth of excellent updates. It deserved some credit despite its launch woes.

4:36 Rare made a bunch of games in many different genres (Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark, etc) before Sea of Thieves so I don't think that really fits.
I was thinking the exact same. I'm pretty sure Rare has dabbled in quite a few genres/styles before. Sea of Thieves is definitely NOT their first first-person game.
Number Eight: It is not Barbie Horse Adventures for the Nintendo Wii.
True because it's actually showing the progress they're making, unless there's bugs left and right
Dmcv did that and yea it turned out great
Horizon is honestly good.
Like extremely good, it allows basically any approach you want, traps, stealth, mele combat, ranged combat, and grenades.
The visual fidelity is absolutely ludicrous.
And the combat, maybe hard, but it's honestly good.
im so thankful for my inate magic ability to just tell a game/movie will be bad based on a single trailer and it has never ever ever let me down.
Skull & Bones...Ubisoft at their finest
Nah, delays are good. If the choice is release unfinished or delay, always delay.
Okay but Cyberpunk 2077 now actually goes hard af
>Armored Core VI shown on when talking about developers going out of their comfort zone
isn't Armored Core one of their earlier titles? Wouldn't this be considered "returning to their roots"??
Especially since the first game Miyazaki ever worked on was Last Raven, before immediately being given the roll of director for 4 and 4A.Imagine never having any experience in video games ever, and then after working as an assistant on a game getting told to direct the next game in the series as your second ever videogame
Armoredcore looks like it will be more of the same for that series (which is good)
No mans sky is actual suceeding as a live service games and has almost completed what it's been advertised to be. That is kind of disapointing that it needs a lot more years to be actually fun and good which it is now and can be seen by doubling it's player count in 2 months. Also Rare absolutely nailed sea of thieves.
My advice will be never pre-order and play a game at least 17 days after launch only expectation for me is fromsoftware.
Towards the release of cyberpunk, I was all on board with it, and at the time I didn’t have a device to actually play it on so I just watched people play it, and I loved the memes and the broken gameplay and I just fell in love with it. And so I got a job bought a pc and I play it to this day
Same with me bro
TLOU Pt 2 was one of the most polished games I've played in recent memory at launch and did not appear to have a troubled development, iirc, lmao. SoT was and is pretty great as well. Great points otherwise!
"did not appear to have a troubled development" The cracks showed mostly the year before it was released. Firstly it was delayed several times, then reports came out saying that the workers had been mistreated, then it was delayed "indefinitely" citing stuff like Covid for the reason. Then the game's plot was leaked which caused a massive amount of controversy but also led to the game being released about a month or two later.
Lol you couldn't be more wrong
it did have a troubled development but you’re right, it’s been one of the best games of our generation since launch

Ay yo what did this guy say about the Outer Worlds?! The game is better than the new fallout games in every way.
"Free post-launch content!" = "We're selling the game half finished and we'll give you the rest of the content when we're done with it."
Most of the time, yes. But there are some good games that have free additional content. (Mostly indie games)

Yes. No Man's Sky was a flop when t launched, but it has been improving since then and now the game and the community are better than ever.
No Man's Sky isn't a live service game, and it only sucked in the beginning.
For live service, battlefront 2’s player base PLUMMETED when dice said “yeah we actually are gonna cut our service sorry. 😅”
Live service is an excuse for unfinished game with promises to add content over time, which was supposed to be in game from the start
Bethesda is really taking the criticism to heart as Starfield is definitely their most polished game.
@lordclansman4205 the bar was in hell tho
I'm enjoying Starfield so far.
I think you should take your own advice with GTA6. Practically all the key people that made those games have left Rockstar, some of them are confirmed to have left on bad terms as well.
Rockstar is now a company that Rockstar can parody.
@@thebuddhasmiles Pretty much, yeah, rofl.
