Actually I quite love the graph of maximus now - the reading input and output is kinda easier to understand than other compressors where you have to know what a dial does and then kinda imagine what will happen when you turn a knob.
Great tutorial as always! How come I still struggle spending time and enjoying working on these processes after composing :/ ? It's been years now. It genuinely feels I don't like mastering, same as I don't like motors. I try to watch and learn from all of your amazing tutorials but in the end, after composing and mixing, all I do is a subtle EQing, a maximus preset and a bit of stereo imaging... I can't really get into mastering even If I'd like to!
Hi Michael, do you think maximus is able to function as a single use plugin for mastering ? Great video again, always very clear and helpful! Thanks! Rgds, Matt
Depending on your needs, yes it can. I personally do not use it for mastering or finalising songs, as I find the ceiling to be difficult to set and it is very tricky to do a loudness compensated bypass. However, for demos and getting loudness - it is a very capable tool!
Is Maximus a good enough tool/plugin to MASTER instrumentals with? I've been producing instrumentals for 20 years and have gotten pretty good with mixing my projects, but have always avoided learning how to Master my productions. With that said, I currently don't have the money to pay for Izotope and other "mastering plugins" out there but I do have Maximus. If anyone can answer this question, I'd like to know whether it's good enough for now to Master with and what the PROS V CONS are to using Maximus as a Mastering plugin? Much love to anyone that could provide this info!
My problem with Maximus: Is there any settings where Maximus does nothing? For some reason, my output is always different than the input. It seems to limit some stuff even though the input signal is actually not reaching 0db at all..?

Honestly knowing how to use maximus has made arguably the greatest difference to my development. It really is that "missing piece", used for picking up the bottom of the mix, and doing it in style. The stereo separation is great, it would be good to have panning per band also.
One thing to point out and correct me if I am wrong. WATCH OUT FOR THE STEREO KNOBS!!!! If you place Maximus on the master bus ( or mix bus ) and you have already enhanced stereo image, Maximus will merge them in Default mode and this may trick your ears. So watch out for that.
