Just takes one To make success Excellent song ❤ Especially back then It made me smile Was my first date ❤ She had a beautiful smile Thanks Steve for the song First love ❤ Thanks Steve ❤
Hey Steve....It's one of the most brilliant songs ever - that's what it is. Wow, talk about getting your message across to your EX band members about who writes the songs!
After hearing the story behind this song, I had trouble reconciling the line, "I'll do what you want, running wild". Didn't seem to jibe with the "band ultimatum" and dissolution that Steve was describing in the interview. To me, that line sounded like Steve was telling them he had changed his mind and was now willing to do whatever they wanted - i.e., to let them in on the songwriting. It was only after Googling the lyrics that I discovered that it's actually "...OR do what you want..." which of course makes perfect sense. Like Steve said, it's him saying, "Oh, you can write songs too? Well, go do it then." Sort of a Fleetwood Mac "you can go your own way" sentiment.
back in the70s had all his lps, make me smile his only commercial recording, which must have been a accidental faux pas, dident know what it ment till i heard it in one of his songs. But anyway back then his songs where so sophisitcated my knowledge of them allowed me to influence many friends and introducturies . This was done honestly by my share appreciation of this mans poetic ability . wrote what he wanted kept it true . Iam assuming this was always mr hs intention .Luv to discus this with him, as the great man said all the men are hungry and we are all insearch of time. Be it past or future.
Awesome funny how lyrics without knowing the songwriters personal reasons for the song can take on a personal interpretation of there own .Guess thats why music appeals to the masses .LOVE YOUR WORK
I'm sure he is. I don't know what got into me last night. I had a whole self-constructed universe going on all on my lonesome, with some delusions of grandeur thrown in. I apologise to Steve and geligniteandlilies. No, no one should be with themselves as much as I am. Sad twat am I alone
That meant that late at night or nearing the end of celebrations I couldn't decipher a thing she was saying. My man is from London and has a weird hybrid of accents...his parents were Welsh and raised him in the toff-ier parts of London, but he went wild in the east end and spent a lot of time there running pubs and doing drugs etc. I have no idea why I'm talking about him...it's a bit off-off topic. Anyway, all the best
no I look more like a young Ruby Wax. as for brit regional accents, it's like anywhere really, a slightly different accent in each city/area. Compare a scottish accent (north) to a southern / london accent, & then you could sort of say that other accents are 'in between'
I know there are are a multitude of regional variations over there. In Australia we haven't had the time to develop many...it usually just degenerates into the same sloppy slang eventually with a few "mates" thrown on the end of the odd sentence. There isn't much diversity. I love the Welsh accent. My Grandmother had a thick Scots accent, and had a love of the wiskey.
Insightful! Thanks for being part of the soundtrack of my life Steve.
Write a brilliant song like this and you'll live forever; the song is here to stay :)
Thanks for the music 🙏😢

Seen a couple of times and the result was the same each time. The band played, the crowd sang their hearts out and all was right with the world.
Excellent song Steve! Was16 when it came out, love it even more now that it is attached to Ylvis video. Wish u well.
Pleasantly honest. Refreshingly honest. Sure had it's impact back then. Thanks!
Maakt deel uit van mijn leven Dit nummer maakt me blij. Ook met mijn zoon die uit het leven is gestapt, delen we dit;

Thank you Alan Parsons for suggesting the up tempo theme for 'Come up and see me' we owe you man :)
Got to be the best song of the 70s
Great original and so is the Wedding Present version.

For what its worth , I heard it was left with Steve & the Drummer who just wanted to play & knew what side his bread was buttered.

Very nice. Do you have the look of Sean Connery about you? How many British regional accents are there, I wonder?
go ten miles in any direction, the accent will change slightly, go 20 and you can definitely hear the difference
go 30 and you're fucked :-)
do you have one o those accents?
cause you can't escape the voice

HAs Steve Harley had a hair transplant? He must be one of the few people who actually has more hair on his head later in life than in his youth.
It's a hair system
What has his hair got to do with the song so rude ..

no I speak in a warm irish brogue
Sounds more like his Ego was running the band. Just because he wrote a song about it, doesn’t excuse his Ego.
