Undertaker, marker of death, untouched by the sicknesses of the mind that plagues ours, a man without faith for he has no need of the name of the lord, a man who’s company is of crows and scavengers. He does not bring death, merely senses it and cleans it up after the act is done. Do not fear a undertaker, fear what has already settled down and drew him near you.
Well at least he is manifestation of death maybe not death himself but a Psychopomp This is probably what The Undertaker is. He is not The Grim Reaper, as he is not the bringer of death himself. Presumably, his role is to allow the souls of the dead to pass on to the next life. "His presence foretells both blood and death / Yet he shoulders not the blame"
@@Ragnarrawhat most interesting to me is that he literally ran towards a symbol of death implying that he feel safer with a symbol of death protecting him acknowledging that he is simply a angel of gods so he isn't evil he simply helping god carrying souls to their respective afterlife since he is stating to drag any poor souls back to hell and drinking from any cup poured implying he is one of those responsible for helping gods torture sinners and demons since hell isn't really ruled by satan since Satan is very much prisoners just like everyone elses god rules over heaven and hell the Satan only really rules earth anyway it's interesting how he ran to a symbol of death even if he isn't death itself he is still very much tied to death.
I am Catholic and I applaud how this song highlights the hypocrisy of the church and how we "believers" are blindly following and doing what we are told, and sometimes only believing when we need things..
justin Fitzsimmons Nobody has the clear answer so I think it's wrong to say "for sure" that his religion is just an illusion. I think atheism (where you insist there is no god or spirits or any kind of supernatural power) should be considered a religion as well, cause nobody have truly disproved the existence of god for example. I'm personally a agnostic and stands for the fact that nobody knows for sure, and we should respect all religions (but not extremism or harmful actions based on religion). There may be a god, there may be good spirits or demons, there may be many gods or no god at all... Maybe something that stands in the bible is right and maybe its not, but most of it is insecure.
No, I think it's about corruption and mob mentality, and how people will follow whoever is in charge based on their own selfish means. The religious toning exists just to incorporate the idea of death, I'd think. I also think people look too deeply into it with the religious stuff. :P
***** While I'm not going to "Yes! Humans are naturally evil" like a cynical Bible thumping preacher who believes we are all doomed to hell unless we live very strict ways of life based on fundamentalist beliefs. To also say that all of humanity is naturally good, peaceful and kind and religion is to blame for all of the world's problems... I'm sorry to say this but that is an extremely naive way of thinking at best. Human nature can be both good and bad and both has nothing to do with religion. Besides, think of it this way: If religions and theistic ideals are entirely man made and have never been based off of something and yet religion is the cause of all of humanities problems, then isn't still humanity's fault for not only believing but also creating these ideas that have supposedly corrupted them so much?

To this day I'll never understand why this song gets such an emotional feeling out of me. I have no reason to but this song makes me cry in the best way.
Religion all around the world , no matter where you are from ... Has the the same point and teachings. Love, peace, harmony. It's just people who used it for bloodshed , money and power. God and religion as a word has a different meaning than what we think. Everybody should explore their own conciousness and find out what they are really about.
See that's what I find interesting thing about the animation, does the undertaker cause the deaths of people around him, or does he simply clean up the mess?
What is heart wrenching ...is the fact that this video was directly created to a score written by the band Sons of Perdition whom is a co-creator. That credit has been scrubbed in this case. I know that the band as well as the visual creator do not approve of this interpretation.
Kenneth Absolutely relevant! The creator's opinion sure as shit matters ...from a legal perspective. Full credit is not given to all the creators nor is it "fair use". The only reason it exists online...at all...is the legal authors of this work don't want to be heavy handed on the matter...but they could be if they so chose to. Further....the original is far superior on all levels. So, thats why you are utterly wrong.

Thanks to both Justin Cross and the animators. This got me through some tough times coming out of the cult known as Jehovah's Witnesses. There is a connection or "turn of phrase" rather in the song that only a person who also excaped the cult would catch. Much appreciation 🙋♂️
That rainbow at the end...back when I was in primary school, I remember my teacher telling us that after the flood that wiped out all "the bad people" (Noah and his family being nice and safe, of course), God made the first rainbow, as a way of promising "I won't do anything like this again." Well, damn. There was no Noah at the end of this story.
I never realized that connection! Well spotted. However, it could be inferred that the Undertaker could be the Noah picking up the pieces, though a valid argument can easily be made against it. Still, it's a rather disturbing parallel.

They felt it was their "religious duty" to kill him. If they didn't kill the one who refused god, then they feared god would be offended and let the Undertaker take them all.
I'm sure someone else mentioned this already, but this cuts out a few scenes at the end that make it run a bit more smoothly. The original animation does explain the sudden escalation of violence quite well.
feminiedisaster God is Love. Religiosity is a disease. Only His Love can truly set you free of every chain that binds you, that guy didn't rejected God, he was the one who was chosen to be free among a nation of religious people that remind me of the Jews that killed Jesus 2000 years ago because of the religiosity they had. Love smashes fear out of your life, embrace it, tell God to give its love to you and you will will.

I've seen the actual animation for this its called "the backwater gospel" has a lot of hidden meanings and such about religion, one of my favorite animations :)
Remember childs, as long as there's a religion, people will do sins and think its justified, just because they say "i do this in the name of god." So wake up, act as you like, but don't blame it on something what does not exsist.
Please see how the man who all were disgusted for his lack of faith is the only one who remains untouched by the filthy acts of the others as you can see in how there's a big clean spot where the man's dead body rests
zpardus this is perfect. What I think needs to be kept in mind is, the man without faith was killed, even crucified. Doesn't matter whether you have faith or not. We all die one way or another. But. If you have faith, keep your head on a swivel. The lyrics match the video well "it's not the devil if there's no fire in his eyes, it's not the spirit if it doesn't speak im tongue." The spirit of death will present itself as a spirit of life to fool those who believe they see such light, and the proceed to rip the people apart from the inside using the mere skill of manipulation. It's a very dark, dark thing. So have faith, but stay sober and vigilant, because you might not know what's actually in front of you.
The funny thing is that the man with the cleaver is the first to have the Undertaker's measuring tape stretched over his corpse. Sorry buddy, but it was you.
***** I don't think you got what I said. The man yells that "It ain't gonna be me!" right before starting the massacre, with the logic that if he's alive and the others are dead, the Undertaker will take them and leave him alone. But in the end, the Undertaker measures his corpse first. It's called irony.
Long Schlong Johnson He is death, and that guy was probably the guy he was taking with him to the afterlife but he started a killing massacre, when he was going with anyway, The Undertaker never does anything he is just there when people die so he can take them.
what I took from this. I am free inside myself and no one can take that nor push me towards something I do not agree with. you can kill me but I will still be me.
Satan welp if you wanna get all technical about stuff... the undertaker scared all the towns people and they thought that killing the crippled man would make the undertaker satisfied yet it didnt soo they all ended up killing each other... you can actually watch the full animation... "backwater gospel" is the name of it.
FragMast It was the preacher that convinced them to kill the guitar man, because of his fire and brimstone fear the lord act that made them paranoid and afraid of the undertaker.
This animation isn't about just religion, but about leaders in general, if not just people. Religion isn't the only force that leads people mind you. Look at the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, modern day America...two through force and one through the media. All of them, and this animation, are rallying the people against one common "enemy," whether the Capitalist, the Jewish, everyone...or merely a man playing the guitar. They do this through fear, and they use fear to promote their power. The German people followed Hitler because they were broken, a mere shell of themselves. The Russians were under the boot of the wealthy, and Lenin and the Communist Party used this to rally the people. The American people are scared of...everything. Terrorist, Muslims, Blacks, Whites, Illegal Immigrants, Deportation, Climate Change, Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives, Liberals, Evolution, Creationism, Feminism, Misogyny, and most of all, being educated. Religion isn't the only leader in this world, children. Do not think even that those of you who know the government is corrupt, aren't still being controlled by them. You are, and you shall be, for the only guarantees in this world are death...and taxes.
Иван Неизвестнов No, indeed, the Soviet Union was amazing. Lenin built it, Stalin protected it, Khrushchev failed it, and Gorbachev ruined it. Yeltsin...may he rest in Hell for all eternity. Perhaps Putin can bring it back?
the idea behind it focuses on all leaders yes, but the lyrics are talking about religion and how every religion believes that unless you follow them you are damned. The short film the Back Water Gospel (which is used in this video) is a perfect example of this. People follow religion in fear of death and for hopes of a life here after, and when death came knocking on their door, they blamed the one non religious man in the town. They killed the man in cold blood then turned on each other when death didn't leave. Slaughtering everyone because they don't want to be the ones to die. This is a very good example about how death doesn't care what religion you are, when you die, you are dead. We're all the same once we're in the ground.
I've watched the animation, and I've listened to the lyrics. However, it is just like We the Living by Ayn Rand. The Italians were loving it for a while because they saw it for face value: A book about a girl suffering in Soviet Russia and going against the Communist regime. However, the people saw it as a book that was against tyranny of all sorts, including fascism. This song and animation, too, can be seen for face value, which would make both of them anti-religion in showing that religion is an evil thing (not Buddhism, but everyone seems to forget the extremely peaceful religions of Buddhism, Shintoism, and Rastafaria), or you can look a bit deeper, and find that you can apply both the animation and song to leadership and people in general, and not just those that follow a religion. I myself am a Catholic, though genuinely believe that all three Abrahamic religions are exactly the same, and that they shouldn't be fighting like a bunch of nitwits. I also believe that Buddhist-Shinto or just straight Buddhism or Shintoism is probably the most peaceful religion. Of course, I could be wrong, but from what I've seen from visiting my family in Thailand, Buddhism is very much a kind and peaceful religion. Then again, all religions are at heart. It is man that changes that, twisting the true meaning of their religion for their own gain. Not that all religious leaders do so, but there will always be that one that brings about Zionism, or Jihad, or Zealotry. That is when problems arise. Religion on its own is a very much peaceful and enjoyable thing.
In the beginning of our world, we started to build our existence. In the middle of all this, people got in fights. Ofcourse, man kind picked a shovel and a fork up and started to rip flesh off each other like wild dogs. In the middle of this fear, family was lost. Mother, father, brother and sister. No one knew what to do. So, naturally people started to imagine someone big, someone strong! Some one that could lead everything to an end! To peace! The thought started to spread, over the whole world! Different kinds of these believes grew. People couldn't get along, didn't believe in the same power. Then more and more blood shed.. But this time people had a reason, so they stood up.. and ripped everyone in they're way apart.. That my friends.. is still going on today... and we will soon be passing 2014, to 2015. Even after these years of suffer, we are still blind...
why must people pretend that human nature is pure? you see people always saying, "be a good person" or "be nice", yet human nature is extremely cruel and violent. we want bloodshed so we hide it in justice, and pretend it's no longer there. Humanity formed society in order to improve our chances of survival and were successful, but now it is time we deform society and return to the free-for-all animalistic survival-of-the-fittest nature. to, in essence, become savage. by doing so we will no longer find an excuse for murder, nor be ostracized by everyone who is "Morally Right." Why can't we return to the primitive beings we are? how I long for humans to return to the uncivilized darkness that burdens our hearts. though i know society has it's cons it will always remain becauses of it's pros.
Seriously, look up the animation!

@@strangewayfaringstranger a joke. *humour, you ape.*
Wise words indeed. Especially in these trying times.
I am Catholic and I applaud how this song highlights the hypocrisy of the church and how we "believers" are blindly following and doing what we are told, and sometimes only believing when we need things..
but it is all a illusion and you admit to it dont you see that religion is a lie and so are the people in it
justin Fitzsimmons Would you please stop preaching atheism while criticising catholicy preaching? its hipocryte.
MrClam8 Is it just me or athiest mostly associate God and religion as 1 subject.
Im wiccan, dont hear much bout that one do ya :D
justin Fitzsimmons Nobody has the clear answer so I think it's wrong to say "for sure" that his religion is just an illusion.
Maybe something that stands in the bible is right and maybe its not, but most of it is insecure.
there are only 3 things that are truly infinite:
1. the universe
2. human stupidity and
3. winrar's trial period
the second speaks truth here
The third will speak truth here when the song is done downloading.
Do you think the Backwater Gospel is suppose to be anti-religious/pro-atheist?
No, I think it's about corruption and mob mentality, and how people will follow whoever is in charge based on their own selfish means.
The religious toning exists just to incorporate the idea of death, I'd think. I also think people look too deeply into it with the religious stuff. :P
That winrar trial period thing cracked me up. I've been running on that for like, 3 years now lol.
My parents were the pious and ground me down. Forced me to say AMEN. We all have wings on our backs Brothers and Sisters. We all rise together as one spirit...

I know of heaven by the line at its gate
I know of truth and America's way
So, come drink the water if you want to be saved

Religion all around the world , no matter where you are from ... Has the the same point and teachings. Love, peace, harmony.
It's just people who used it for bloodshed , money and power.
God and religion as a word has a different meaning than what we think. Everybody should explore their own conciousness and find out what they are really about.
And all the undertaker did was sit there.
power of fear I guess
why bother getting in the way not like the bodies are going away any time soon
See that's what I find interesting thing about the animation, does the undertaker cause the deaths of people around him, or does he simply clean up the mess?
He cleans up the mess. The thing that causes people to die is the fear that they will be the body that the undertaker takes
Zombiemermaid101 I actually think he's death, and the fear of him sends the people back to the church
Holy moly its been years since I heard this and I was thinking about it the other day, to see it on my recommended now is so awesome
Can nobody else just say this is an amazing and deeply emotional song. The video on it's own is heart wrenching.
What is heart wrenching ...is the fact that this video was directly created to a score written by the band Sons of Perdition whom is a co-creator. That credit has been scrubbed in this case. I know that the band as well as the visual creator do not approve of this interpretation.
El Demento Irrelevant. The creator's opinion no longer matters once the art has been published. And yes, it was credited. Look in the description.
El Demento Ah, actually, you're right. I misread what you said. I thought you were complaining about the song choice / the edits the person made to it. Upon rereading, I apologize for my snide comment.

What’s the phrase?
That rainbow at the end...back when I was in primary school, I remember my teacher telling us that after the flood that wiped out all "the bad people" (Noah and his family being nice and safe, of course), God made the first rainbow, as a way of promising "I won't do anything like this again." Well, damn. There was no Noah at the end of this story.
oh damn I didn't notice the rainbow at the end, it gave a deeper meaning at the end of the story
Promised the world wouldn't be purged by Water again. Next time, it will be purged by FIRE.
+rosenti well I am sure that the next time actually will be by blood
I never realized that connection! Well spotted. However, it could be inferred that the Undertaker could be the Noah picking up the pieces, though a valid argument can easily be made against it. Still, it's a rather disturbing parallel.
Norse history already promises that with Ragnarök.

THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY
RIGHT!

If you want to be traumatized again and haven't seen it already, look up The Backwater Gospel. It's what this is from.
An amazing work of art. Brought chills. Thank you for showing what mankind can and is becoming.
Please see how the man who all were disgusted for his lack of faith is the only one who remains untouched by the filthy acts of the others as you can see in how there's a big clean spot where the man's dead body rests
And the fact that he's also laid out like he's on the cross (feet together, arms outstretched)
zpardus this is perfect.

Иван Неизвестнов So, Putin is basically trying to improve it in the now, but not actually bring it back as the Soviet Union? I'm slightly confused.
Yes indeed. The economy is bad in many a place, May Russia be brought back to her former glory!
the idea behind it focuses on all leaders yes, but the lyrics are talking about religion and how every religion believes that unless you follow them you are damned.

Even after these years of suffer, we are still blind...
cool story bro
why must people pretend that human nature is pure? you see people always saying, "be a good person" or "be nice", yet human nature is extremely cruel and violent. we want bloodshed so we hide it in justice, and pretend it's no longer there.

Would it be wrong to say to late? Hypothetically, of course.
After watching this for the first time I thought this was the original
