This composition was so ahead of its time. It still is ahead of our time.
right, so true!!!
You are the modern Saints.
May our Beautiful Lord and his friend JSBach welcome you in his kingdom when you will be called.
Thank you so much on behalf of the humanity.❤
Vivat and cheers for our Father J.S.Bach ! Soli Deo Gloriam !
Hypnotic. Entrancing. Mesmerizing. Pretty close to Hallucination...
One of the Best music human could produce, to Our Lord. He deserves them.
Thank you and God bless.
Wonderful!
From France a great bravo to Barnaby, the choir and orchester for this very good interpretation (especially the 1st the introduction choir).
Bach is quoted to once have said: Handel is the only person I wish to meet before I die and the only person I wish to be if I were not Bach
usual english wishfull thinking?
From Barnaby Smith and Company, this is a truly authentic, masterful and stunning offering performed to complete perfection! Every instrument, each soloist and heavenly chorus are in tune with one another with such balance, blend and precision that few other versions can compare. To say that I am impressed would stand as an understatement. Congratulations to Maestro Smith and the entire company for giving us this outstanding musical masterpiece!
Pure love.
A beautiful rendering of my preferred Bach "Passion" - this is a dramatic and sensitive interpretation of this wonderful Bach work.
It’s all excellent but the voice of the erzhaler and his musicality are beyond compare. He’s truly the workhorse of the piece.
Thrilling! Performance of magnificence performed with intimacy, wonder, and grandeur. Barnaby's conducting brings to the fore the achingly beautiful passion of chord sequences that seem to hold you in tension for a near eternity. Utter perfection!
This music is absolutely astounding.. Rich melodic speech, harmonies breathtaking orchestration constantly renewed in the use of the stamps of the orchestra, in short a Babylonian sound architecture erected by humble and impetuous interpreters 🎶
Such an excellent music in such an excellent performance! When I finished the listening I just could think "No matter if I had to die right now, for this would be the last thing I'd have heard in my life". I can´t imagine a better end than the lullaby tone of "Ruht wohl...Ruht wohl, und bringt auch mich zur Ruh´." I am not a believer, so I don't want my sins to be forgiven just before my death in order to reach God in heaven...I just want to listen to music such as this because I´m sure that way I will be able to reach Bach wherever he is...Thanks to all members of AAM for almost two hours of such fine pleasure and delight!!!
Soli Bach Gloria
Can I just say I sincerely agree with everybody complementing this exquisite performance and the wonderful performers. This is a very moving and convincing interpretation. By all involved. Admittedly, Andrew Bearden Brown, Christopher Moore and Oscar Golden-Lee are particularly beautiful! In more ways than one.
But I have to add … what struck me as well, is the first row of very young listeners on the left isle behind the conductor - some in shorts, and one of them wearing flip flops even (and yes I know it was mid summer, and yes I understand and no, I don’t mind that one bit. On the contrary.) - I find it strangely hopeful that still quite a (happy) few of our young generation are open to this profound and exceptional cultural heritage.
I think the presence of these "young'uns" is a strangely beautiful testament to the timeless quality of the music as well as the story.
probably family.
No doubt, some of the greatest music ever composed. Thank you,
300 y. anniversary today !
Everything exquisite; the conducting, so fluid, magical, mystical..
This performance - beautiful.
If I didn't already believe in God, Bach would make me a believer. I had a teacher at the Manhattan School of Music when I was a graduate student there in the 1980's who used to say: "there's no bad Bach; just some that's less great." Most of it IS great!
Interpretation my friend
Bravo Èngland !!!
I must beg to differ. All of it is great music!! What work do you have in mind which isn't 'great'?
Bravo!!!
Outstanding, Barnaby. So many things I had 'never heard before' in the interpretation.
Impossible to put in words the beautifulness of this kind of musicality.
Amazing.
Love this performance ❤️
Beautiful
Lovely. Lush. Puts one in mind of the early 70's Richter recordings.
Beautifull...
Puuuuuhhhh... 🥹🥲 So moving!
Meraviglia
Well done AAM. Looking forward to it.
Lovely!!
Thank you so much
Glad you could join us!
I love the part where the bases join in the second time in augmentation. It really cool.
A comment indicated that the young people at the front were bored! Not at all - they were lost in the chaos of chords of the music drawing into beautiful unity.. Bored people don’t hold a position.
This performance - a joy!
Except that they have all left at 37:00! I don't think this is music for youngsters, I wouldn't have liked it at that age, now at 76 I love it.
@@bertspeggly4428 most likely family members or a relation with some performers. It does last long, even at age 79.
Einfach nur exzellent
Cannot wait!
Wonderful! Uplifting perfection. Thank you.
Great performance. Look the faces of the young people at the first line!!
Very good. Really outstanding. Well done.

Yea
Wonderful music. Thank you.
Our pleasure, thanks for watching!
The tenor soloist at the beginning is very, very cute...
Leipzig didn't know what they had when they had it.
Even today, most of people all over the world don't know what he left them
@@martinruiz1394 Are you by any chance related to him?
Patrick Gomes Think how Salzburg & Vienna feel about how they treated MOZART. All those statues & big business could never compensate for their blatant disregard of arguably the greatest musical spirit (w Bach) to ever walk this earth. Poor sods of cities.
Wonderful! AAM one of the best orchestras in the world. High level, beatiful sound
20:22 oh no...
20:30
I've asked Eric Whitacre to compose a vocal arrangement of Ravel's Bolero for you to perform it.
What are those 14-stringed instruments like large violins?
Theorbo
@@billwalker8192 Thanks but I don't mean the theorbo, that's the one with the super long neck. I mean the large viiolin-like ones. It is first used in "Ach Grosser Koenig" 40:13. The white-haired gentleman next to the organ.
what fell down?
It is not just beautiful music, it is a faith song, a faith that had been shown by Bach. I think Bach would the listener not just involved when listened to his music, but challenged them to get to know who he believes in. Just consider about this: how it be possible a man composed so consitently sacred music, through his lifetime? I think it is not just that Bach work in church, but rather it is about the faith, the faith that God had given to him. So guys, just think and consider to have the same faith with Bach, when you listen to his music like this, include his cantatas.
20:22 lmoa
TO GOD ALONE BE ALL THE GLORY.
#handel ? lol
Glad that kid at 12:24 got a front row seat! Sheesh.
@5:02 Oboes having a laugh?
Beautiful sound at the start though, with flutes doubling
Soprano soloists nailed their solos as did Jesus/ bass. Andrea especially was amazing for that solo. Who was the evangelist? Awesome job there.
Chorales were lovely.
Rest was disappointing. Too slow in general, too legato, tuning issues I assume were due to summer heat.
Somehow missed the obvious choices musically.
It seems to be too hard to follow the tempi Johann Sebastian Bach wrote. Like in the bass aria "Eilt, eilt, our angefochtnen Seelen." It is played well too fast. Disappointing performance!!!
Performance is great. The orchestra is dressed uniformly so why not the choir?
Is there a reason why the choir should be dressed uniformly?
By the way: The orchestra is also not uniformly dressed…
Thanks from USA... wonder what happened to those young people sitting in the front row??? They looked bored and dressed like they were going to the beach. Too bad someone isn't teaching them to appreciate a little culture..... their loss
Unless the music has a relentless thump to it, they can't relate.
The performance was part of the Milton Abbey International Summer Music Festival; those you see in the front (wearing lanyards) were participants in all or part of a the week-long series of workshops, education, and music making, alongside being able to attend a series of glorious concerts such as these. It was a very hot summer week, with blue skies and sunshine on the lawns and grounds outside Milton Abbey; a number of the audience had been making music outside in the sun just before this concert, so I don't think their attire is cause for any concern.
@@AcademyofAncientMusic So happy that they had front row seats. What an experience for them.
Please open your heart.
@@AcademyofAncientMusic In which year was the concert? hopefully not 17.05.2020 which is shown in youtube - with full audience and without masks... Fantastic music and good pronounciation of difficult german language.
Excellent performance, lousy recording
Looks like they're playing Ai Generated instruments
What a dissonance between the music and the ragged mob of the audience!
