I always find when someone gives me advice it is all in the delivery! If it is given with genuine concern and a wanting to truly help me, then I am good with that. If it is given because they think they know more about something and purposely make you feel small and inadequate because they are superior, then I will usually just tune them out.

I find often when people jump straight to advice, it bulldozes over the feelings about the situation. Which are often the thing that really need addressed more than the problem they're about. Even just being heard, acknowledged and empathized with usually helps more than any unsolicited advice I've ever gotten. Because then I feel less alone in whatever it is that I'm dealing with.
