Lovely video reminded me of my childhood, my granny lived with us until I was 12 years old and she kept her Sabbath as she always had even to the extent of washing up after meals we used to put all of the cutlery into a jug of soapy water and delt with them on Monday mornings, after she passed dad made Sundays mums day of rest he took over everything looking after us 2 girls by then I was 12 years old and my sister was 4 but even she had her little jobs to do(lay and clear then dining table brush of the crumbs and fold the table cloth) dad lit our coal fire for mum to sit in the lounge and read the papers, but she always had to come and mix the yorkshire pudding we did try but it was never any good. In the afternoon we played in our rooms (no going out except for church er went to the family service at 12am and then back to Sunday school in the afternoon, while we were out dad used to make a cake for tea time where he used to cook toast by the coal fire. Sorry I got a bit carried away with my wonderful memories I am nearly 80 yet I remember those days with much happiness. God Blessings to you both and enjoy your weekend love as always x

My husband and I only recently began going to church this past January. We are finding that we like to eat lunch after church and then we both take it easy. My husband will watch sports on tv and I will usually crochet. Every now and then we will drive over to our younger daughter’s home and spend a few hours with them. It’s the only time we see their daughters since they are both now in school.
I appreciate that you share what works for you, but make no judgment on what others do. Your gentle and kind nature shines through with every video. God bless you both!

I take Sunday as my day of rest. I go to church in the morning. Then I spend time with family, read, take a nap, call family far away, and try hard not to spend money. I think it is so healthy to take a break and rest. So much of what God instructs us to do really winds up being healthy too. Great video and advice.

God bless! Just found ur channel. ❤ Fun Fact The Sabath is technically Saturday hence the word for Saturday Sabado in Spanish and Portugues Sabado also. But if wanted to rest on Tuesday its ur personal choose. No Judgement here at all. I started resting on Saturdays as well.

Yes in Spanish Sabbath is Sabado. 7th day is Sabbath. God rested form creating the world in 6 days. He rested on the 7th day. He hallowed it and blessed it. Sabbath rest is a Blessing from God. Jesus also kept the Shabbat Sabbath as God commanded to do. He went into the synagogue as was the custom. We Gentiles are grafted in to Him even though we many not be Jewish descent.

I am fairly new to your channel, and I love it! This subject, Sabbath, is especially near and dear to my heart. Thanks for walking us through your process. I got so many great ideas! I grew up in the 1960s, when "blue laws" were still pretty common. It was easier to opt out of 24/7 busyness back then. We were required to stay indoors and play quietly after church and Sunday dinner (always eaten at home) while our parents took a nice, long nap. Even as a child, I enjoyed the rhythm and tranquility of it. Now, I find I have to fight hard to protect a day of rest. It is so out of sync with American culture. So much has changed in my lifetime, but there are some old ways that are worth fighting for. Sabbath is one of them! God created us, and I think He knows a thing or two about how we function best! :) Thanks for all you do to encourage and educate!

Lovely idea. We are Jewish and from sundown on Friday until after sundown on Saturday our sabbath we do no work. Nothing electrical is used. No cleaning is done. No driving. Just quality family time. We light candles to bring in our sabbath and eat home made bread and all pre cooked food which is warmed on in warmer which is lit 🔥 before our sabbath. We read go to synagogue and often have guests or go to guests or family. We play board games whatever. And we learn and share idea. And it is an oasis in a too fast too busy week. 🥰

We Jews keep Shabbat on Saturday as well. It starts Friday night before sundown and ends on Saturday a bit after sundown. Wen light candles, dress nicely, set a beautiful table and have a special meal. The next morning we get up and go to service. Afterwards we come home to a meal made in advance and heated up. Then it is time for a nap or a leisurely walk, maybe visiting with close friends. Then when sundown comes, Shabbat is over and the new week starts. That's when we can cook again but we always choose something very fast and easy.

What a delightful surprise! I've been watching your videos for a few months now and this was a treat to hear that you keep a Saturday Sabbath as well. My husband and I have been keeping it non denominationally for about 11 years now and doing the no cook no clean full rest for about 7. It's been a HUGE blessing in our lives to walk in God's ways and trying to follow His instructions! We also keep the other feasts in Leviticus 23 and have found incredible blessings there too.
Often our Thursday dinner is Saturdays lunch repurposed (roast chicken becomes chicken wraps or chicken soup type of thing) to help make things easier as well. In summer my husband and daughter love a charcuitery style dinner on a hot day. It's so easy to put some things on a tray and we save the dishes with some casual munching.
    Enjoy your Sabbath!

When I started my real estate career the unemployment rate was high, (otherwise I never would have chosen a career with no salary and a steep learning curve where customers expected me to be available 24/7. My husband and I had moved back to the US from Europe a year before. I probably worked 7 days a week for six months, before taking a day off before I admitted I couldn't continue. I started to take 1 day off per month. We packed sandwiches and allowed ourselves1 tank of gas and took a driving day trip. It was probably a year before I upped time off to 1 day per week. Working a six day week became comfortable and let me be happier and more productive. I realized the world wouldn't fall apart if I had a weekly day of rest. Most customers accepted that I needed it. The ones who didn't, I suggested they find another agent. From that point it wasn't a big leap to deciding I also needed an occasional vacation.

Our church has Saturday evening services every other week and we usually attend, we attend the Sunday morning services the other weeks.
Our day of rest is centered around Rest. All the house work is done- that is the one day I usually do not cook. We nap, go for a ride and visit with our daughter and grandson.

I’ve just started doing Sunday dinners so I can spend some time with my kids and grandkids too. I prep as much food as I can the day before and choose things that aren’t a lot of work. It also gives us incentive to tidy up the house for company. By the way anyone can choose their day of rest according to their schedule. It’s just a day set aside to rest the way God planned it for us.

I do take a day of rest. It’s not always the same day. If I have a full Sunday visiting my parents after church on Sunday, then I do at least part of Saturday. It just depends what’s going on that weekend. I like to read, rest, crochet, and I do occasionally watch videos sometimes on my day of rest. I enjoy learning new things so I do watch a little occasionally. I do work from home and have a stressful job so a day of rest is even more important.

Another great video. My husband still works full time and finding a rest day together is a challenge. I try to set up my weekdays so that I’m done with what I “need” to do in the home by 3:00 pm and take a seat for an hour or more in my rocker or in good weather, the swing in the garden. My husband is not good with time management which he admits. Instead of doing a few things that take 10 or 15 minutes each weekday evening, he saves them all up for the weekend and then I feel guilty that I might be resting while he’s working.

Having a day of rest is definitely a great goal to aspire to and I am sure it helps your mental health a lot. I just need an 8th day of the week! 😂 You had some good ideas, though, like preparing food in advance. I need to get back to doing that more.

I just happened upon your channel. Interesting that I was rethinking about keeping the Sabbath again as I used to be involved in a messianic Jewish group but left to go to a non-denominational church. I don’t know if you are aware, but our heart rates slow down during the Sabbath. Anyhow, I guess God wanted me to find your channel and is convicting me to keep the Sabbath, not as ritualistic as I used to. Thanks for sharing and I would be most interested in the recipe for the bread. It looks exactly like what I have been looking for. Just wondering if you keep the feasts too or just the Sabbath? Thanks again for sharing this with us all!

The planning ahead message is good for numerous reasons. I'm not at all religious so observing a sabbath is not a thing for me. I do my cooking on Sunday mornings for the week ahead. I have way more energy in the morning than evening. I enjoy cooking because I find it relaxing after working a mentally draining 40+ hour workweek. I make a casserole or two and a couple of other things for meals and "brown bag" lunches during the workweek. So, doing the opposite works for many of us whose time is "owned" by bosses Monday-Friday. I don't do a "day of rest". I'm a single empty nester, so cleaning is never a big deal and can be done in an hour on Saturday mornings. I also have a lot of clothing, so I can go for two weeks without doing laundry--I have to use a communal apartment laundry room and can get 3 machines going at once.. I try to do enough work ahead so that no day is ALL work. On weekends, I always have it all done by lunchtime and have two whole afternoons to "play".

May God Bless you and your family. We have to worship in Spirit and in Truth. EXODUS 20:8-11 commands us to Remember to keep the Sabbath day holy. So it is a day, and it is a holy day. Here the day is specific. Six days you shall work, but on the Seventh day, you shall do no work. The weekly calendar starts with Sunday as the first day, so which is the Seventh day? That would be Saturday. From sunset Friday evening to sunset Saturday evening is the Sabbath day. So the preparation day will and should be Friday. Sunset Thursday evening to sunset Friday evening. The Bible tells us that when we prepare our food on preparation day for two days, the food will not spoil. Also in Genesis chapter 1, and chapter 2:2&3, God blessed and sanctified the Sabbath day.
You can also read John 14:15, Revelation 14:12, and Revelation 22:14. Sister in Christ, I am not judging you, but I am sharing with you my understanding of the holy Sabbath day. I do this in Love. Jesus also was his Custom to preach and teach on the Sabbath day in the synagogue. He was crucified on Friday, and he rested on Saturday, the holy day in the grave, and he resurrected on Sunday. Thank you for letting me share scriptures with you. God Bless 🙏 🙌.

Paul and Emmy what a wonderful video! Shabbat is truly a blessing from God our creator. Our family also views Shabbat like a weekly holiday....we look forward to it and sometimes the week whips by so fast we find ourselves saying "It's Shabbat again yay!". We celebrate by eating a meal and we read the Torah and scriptures on Friday evenings with our family. Saturday morning we don't set alarms to wake up. We have coffee together, we take time for our hobbies, we take naps.....we have permission to rest without guilt. It is so refreshing....low key and no stress on Shabbat. God bless you guys ... shalom!

A day of rest is mandatory for me. It's the time when I do my meal planning and gather the recipes that I want to make. Like Paul , I spend the afternoon reading, it is a real treat. Not only is it a time for reflection but it enables you to catch up with your spouse and plan for the coming week. I usually make leftovers or simple meals like omelettes so the cleanup is minimal. Once again, I thank you both for all your great ideas. I think about you both whenever I'm preparing meals or making purchases. You both make the world a better place.

Another great video Emmy and Paul. Sunday is our rest day. I make sure I’m up to date with anything I want to do around the home and then we eat lightly, read, knit, do a jigsaw and generally just chill. A lovely way to get some time back for you. As much as I love seeing family and friends, I try to ensure that unless absolutely necessary, it is avoided on Sunday. A day of rest is really beneficial and as you say, it costs nothing.

Sundays were always our day of rest growing up on our Iowa farm. No work except chores. Putting a roast & veggies in the oven before church & Sunday School with a big delicious meal ready when we got home at noon. Afternoon naps for Mom & Dad or visits with relatives who would come for a visit. Supper was always apples and popcorn - everyone fixed their own. Such great memories.

Thank you for sharing how you prep for a rest day. It was very useful and so inspiring. When I am organized, I clean the house on Thursday evening and do grocery shopping on Fridays. Then I can chill during weekends. But, that is not happening very often and then I stress out the whole weekend with a long To Do list. You inspired me to be more thoughtful about incorporating a holiday in a week. Thank you both! ❤
