Long distance is 8 feet for me, I've been throwing for a few months a little bit here and there trying to use a combination of the fedin grip combined with traditional overhand/side throw because of my bad shoulders, and beyond 8 feet I struggle I think because I have bad shoulders and cannot really get the proper range of motion or speed or strength given that fact but it's become my one and only hobby and I love it! For some weird reason I particularly like the way certain folding knives feel in my hand and throw but of course you know that leads to a lot of knife breakages lol.

This is semi-related I think. I have never thrown a knife, but I do play volleyball. When I overhand served before I had a good coach I was convinced that it was all in my shoulders and although I did actually take the steps and move my body, I wasn’t actually putting to use all the momentum I was creating. So I would say that the reason it could be difficult is that although your doing all the right motions, your really only using your arms or shoulders. Idk anything about this and this comment was also 11 months ago so you’ve probably figured it out my now but. That’s what I know
