Ford has always been in and out of this market where Jeep has held strong and will continue to make the performance we expect.
I have been watching a few other channels showing the Bronco's off road ability. Several others have shown the weakness of the steering arms on the Bronco, with arms breaking and leaving the wheels with no steering control. The 37 inch tires will add additional stress. I hope Ford fixes this issue. The extra width and IFS make the Bronco better for fast runs though the desert. The solid front axle and smaller size makes the Jeep the better rock rig. Great to see the competition between manufacturers, but as others have mentioned, the prices are crazy. My choice is the Jeep.
I think this is why Jeep fought so long against going with such large diameter tires for years because of how stressful they are on control arms, bushings, tie rod ends, etc over the long term. I really hope Ford beefed up everything for 37s...
A couple of things to note about the 3.0 EcoBoost. That engine family, the 2.7/3.0 Nano, was built from the ground up for forced induction. It has a compacted graphite iron block, like a diesel, and forged internals. Just like a diesel. This engine family was built to be stressed and abused. Also note that Ford is using the same turbos as what the 3.0 EcoBoost already came with but are upgrading the compressor wheels along with adding freer flowing piping and exhaust. That’s worth noting since the 3.0 EcoBoost in the Explorer ST makes 400hp and 415tq while being tuned to run on 87 octane, and I’d bet the Bronco Raptor 3.0 is going to be premium only. This engine is going to be making mid to high 400’s and even more torque 🤷🏻♂️

I've seen them Bronco prices and you will be able to buy 2 392 for the price of 1 Bronco Raptor once Ford dealers begin to play the $100,000 market adjustment.
I know I'm in the minority, but after all of the hype, I'm slightly underwhelmed. I really thought they'd create a halo Bronco Raptor with at least the 3.5, or maybe even the Powerboost. But the Explorer engine just doesn't do it for me in this application. The Raptor may be every bit more capable than the 392 offroad, but the attitude of the JL elsewhere is superior. And why oh WHY is this thing heavier than a F150 Raptor!? I wouldn't be surprised if it is only about as fast as a 2.7. With the aftermarket community creating more and more offerings for the Bronco, I'd just build my own Raptor if I were a Bronco guy.

I was initially a little bit harsh in my criticism of the Bronco Raptor, but I finally seeing the value in some areas. One area that wasn't covered in configurability was the ECU, FORSCAN puts this vehicle ahead by a large margin, possibly including the powertrain!
To be honest I would straight away take the bronco. It looks very promising and besides jeep didn't really sell me on the 392 to begin with because they didn't market it too well and it's basically just what a bunch of owners and shops have done anyway because they were tired of waiting on a performance wrangler. Ford has actually marketed it very well and the sales numbers of the bronco in itself are actually insane. AND IT HAS RACING HARITAGE. Well done Ford.
You can market anything. But can you get it to customers? In fords case NO. An the people who have got them are having all kinds of issue's. So they need to stop marketing an make what customers they have left happy. I ordered one almost 2 years ago an still dont have it. Cancelled my order this week an heading to jeep
Heading alone I can answer before watching this, because I have already watched your other video of the release on the Raptor Bronco. Ford F'd up on the engine choice, thus, the Jeep 392 wins this question hands down. I would not waste 1 penny on the Raptor Bronco. I would buy the 2.7 Bronco with the best off road package and be done with it. IF I want power from an off roader, the Jeep 392 would be the easy choice. ;)
Power to do what, though? Win a stoplight race? This Bronco would leave the 392 in the dust offroad in high speed situations. The Jeep would outcrawl the Bronco on rocks (slightly). So it totally depends what category means the most to you.
Question. Where is the vast majority of trails in the usa? Mountain. What happens in the mountains at elevation? N/A motors loose power. At moab the bronco will have 400hp the jeep will be lucky to still have 300
These vehicles are just too much. I think that my favorite off roader of them all is the wrangler in a spec similar to Tomy's. Small, lighweight and which loads of extra cash to burn in mods if thats your thing. Otherwise I am pretty sure that even as it is, due to the size and lightness it will go anywhere the bronco raptor and the xtreme reckon will, and maybe even someplaces more, where they would simply not fit.
You could make a badass Jeep Wrangler like Tommy’s on ton axles and 40s with any suspension you can imagine for cheaper than this. Yeah I’ll take the jeep Not to mention the bronco fenders are hideous
@@blueryxfalls7949 you sure? Because I’ve wheeled my JL heavily off road consistently for four years and it hasn’t so much as hiccuped. These broncos are already having catastrophic issues just as people get their hands on them. I’d trust a Maserati fiat over any ford

Wider wheelbase is not better for slow technical offroading. But it is better for Baja style offroading. These are two very different vehicles. Not that anyone cares in 2022 but ill bet the MPG is similar given the V6 vs the V8 with the weight differences. I’m a Jeep guy, but the bronco is pretty sweet.
I remember back in the day when everyone was like "Ugh turbo V6 sounds like a sewing machine" now the same people are like "Screw that gas guzzling V8" they both get pretty close to the same mileage. Get what you're happy with. It's great to see this competition great job from both companies.
Those fenders on the bronco look awful. But I’ll be honest, this version of the Bronco is pretty good. You say it can crawl, but being wider when your rock crawling isn’t great when you’re in tight spots. Also the Jeep is so much easier to modify to do 7-10 rates trails. I’m not sure I’ll ever see a new bronco on Pritchett Canyon in Moab. But for the dunes I’m sure this bronco would be fun, but I’d take a 392 all day
Think about it this way: a Bronco can Baja, do some rock crawling and has great onroad manners, a Jeap can't Baja, rock crawls and is miserable on road ... the Bronco is better.
In case anyone is wondering, the DRIVING RANGE of the Ford Bronco Raptor is 325 Miles (523 km) on a full tank of gas using the probable size of 20.8 Gallons tank that's on the REGULAR 4-door Bronco, so with TWO 20 gallon Jerry Cans attached to the back tailgate in a safety cage, you could get about 975 miles (1560 km) of driving range in good conditions and probably around 700 miles (1126 km) in horrendously bad weather off-road 4x4 conditions! That makes this an IDEAL VEHICLE for long range off-road boondocking and overlanding! V
The turbo 3.0 v6 only gets 15.6 mpg at 5700lbs empty? If it’s estimated at 18 Highway and close to that city that is terrible. I’m not a fan of the Jeep but I believe their estimate is 17 Highway and 13 city. They are very close to one another in actual mileage. If someone wanted mileage they would just go with an EcoDiesel Jeep running around 25+. For reference I drive a 6400lb I6 landcruiser 80 that gets 14+ on 33 inch km3 with a 25 gallon tank.
I like BOTH, but remain concerned that Ford is bringing great trucks & SUVs to the market while being unable to actually deliver within a reasonable timeframe (e.g. 90-120 days). Maverick, F-150 Tremor, Mach-e GT, & Bronco 2-door are all facing very long delivery ETAs.

I truly wanted to want a new vehicle. I convinced myself to want a Manual transmission Sasquatch Bronco until I sat in one. Just to much computer and electronic nannies. I love my old YJ, so I looked at new Jeeps, and would have to cut the seat mounts and weld them together again like I did with my YJ. So I am redoing drive train on 1982 K10. The best part of this video is the running footage of the 392. Just like the “new” Raptor, Ford has let down its fan base. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate the raptor or this bronco, but for me the TRX or 392 Jeep would be way more fun and rewarding to drive.
Have you driven either? 392 is just a great sounding Jeep that sucks more gas, sucks on the road, and can't tow anything more than any other wrangler (although it can tow the same things faster!). Besides the sound the Jeep makes, the Bronco is 10x more fun to drive in everything but a straight line drag race at a stop light and can do everything else as well and better than the 392 except crawl over 6 ft. boulders which none of you are going to do anyhow! The 392 does put a huge smile on your face when you give it the beans though. The acceleration is amazing and the Bronco can't come close to it in that department. Oh yeah, the 392 starts at $12K more than even a Raptor Bronco similarly equipped.
@@jg4719 - I honestly think this Raptor will have quicker acceleration times than the 392, it’s going to be pushing 400+ and I’m assuming torque will be more than 450 so all jeep has is sound? Big deal
@Marvin Headrick Think of it this way.. If you know how Ford does their Raptor lineups, then you know you should assume that Ford probably has a *Bronco Raptor R* in development!.. If they make the R, it will compete with the likes of the Wrangler 392.. However, to be VERY honest, the 392 has TERRIBLE TERRIBLE mileage and doesn't do anything that more practical Wranglers can't... I got to test the 392 with my husband, who is a journalist! What is it you would like to see Ford do with the Bronco, to compete?
@@lunamaria1048 the Raptor version of both the F150 and this bronco are already priced almost equal to the TRX and the 392. Mileage aside (in my view) neither will be as enjoyable to drive as the Ram or Jeep, and that’s the whole point of these vehicles. So if the current Raptor variations are priced equal to (in my opinion) superior vehicles, when the R versions are finally released, they will compete well but their pricing will be a ridiculous amount beyond the competition. I said that this was a let down because I know that (on the day the new Raptor was unveiled) people were very disappointed that it will get ate by the TRX. They wanted more power and didn’t get it. I also know that people are very disappointed that this bronco didn’t get, at least, the F150 Raptor engine.
@@marvinheadrick3511 I don't understand what the F150 Raptor or Ram TRX has to do with this mid sized SUV segment?.. The Ram and F150 are full sized pickup trucks.. The Bronco is a midsized SUV competing with others in it's class, like Wrangler and 4Runner.. Again, the 392 is a gas guzzling gimmick, because Ford caught Jeep with their pants down, sleeping on the job.. No mid sized SUV needs that type of power, and the 4Runner is proof.. Toyota and Ford are keeping things practical, as economical as possible, and also affordable.. Bigger engines mean bigger price tags... The 392 is quite expensive for a thirsty Wrangler. I have a 392 and absolutely love it...miles of smiles. Width is a seriously big deal if you want to fit into your garage, go down a trail without scratching your paint to the metal, etc. I would own a Bronco, but the mark-ups makes those on the 392 look like child's play. The Bronco Raptor fender flares are FUGLY.
I have two vehicles with the 5.7L in them, these V8 sound great, and have a lot of power, but as the price of gas goes up, keeping the tank filled is not that fun. I was paying 40-45 dollars to fille these up in Nov 2020, now its around 70-75 a week per vehicle.
The crawl ration calculation is wrong. The Wrangler 392 only comes with a 2.72 ratio T-case. Thus the crawl ratios are quite similar. Regular Rubicons come with 4:1 ratio
Bronco Raptor is a very impressive machine. A lot of the suspension is upgraded with more flex built in. Much more useable as it can carry passengers and cargo comfortably.

Performance metrics are a wash between these two, they'll both crush whatever is thrown at them. The independent front suspension and styling are what puts the Bronco on top for me. The Bronco will be much more liveable. That said these are wealth flexes, get you a low to mid trim and have just as much fun out there!
Bronco weighs 800 pounds heavier and will have significantly less power. My guess is it'll be low 6's to 60... very slow. Less performance than even the 4xe.

Hopefully Ford will make the interior quality better and it looks nice how they put leather on the dashboard.
Bronco Raptor is a good daily drive compared to 392 which fails as an overlander
Give me the Jeep all day and twice on Sunday. Only wish the interior was as nice as the Ford, it’s only slightly so.
I was initially a little bit harsh in my criticism of the Bronco Raptor, but I finally seeing the value in some areas. One area that wasn't covered in configurability was the ECU, FORSCAN puts this vehicle ahead by a large margin, possibly including the powertrain!
I have one on order. I am hoping it is, I have not driven one yet.
Bronco has cool stuff but I prefer wrangler 392 because of it's size and V8
Why GM hasn’t got into this segment is beyond me! They need to bring back the real blazer and jimmy back to compete!
The Raptor looks like a science experiment, not a purposely built vehicle. It’s ugly!
So you would take the bronco because you have see more ads for it?

In this case a V8 engine would be crucial for me. Jeep! 🔥
I’m confused by the roof on the 392… Is it the Sky One Touch or a standard hardtop painted to look like one?
Wider wheelbase is not better for slow technical offroading. But it is better for Baja style offroading. These are two very different vehicles. Not that anyone cares in 2022 but ill bet the MPG is similar given the V6 vs the V8 with the weight differences. I’m a Jeep guy, but the bronco is pretty sweet.
The 392 is crap besides the engine. I have a 4 door rubicon and it’s great, but the bronco raptor is better in every way! It’s so badass.
I remember back in the day when everyone was like "Ugh turbo V6 sounds like a sewing machine" now the same people are like "Screw that gas guzzling V8" they both get pretty close to the same mileage. Get what you're happy with. It's great to see this competition great job from both companies.

Just my opinion, but i wish the "Great 4x4 War" would go in a different direction. I can't spend $80K on what is basically a status symbol.
Agreed. Wish we got the Suzuki Jimny. If that and similar came to US they would sell like hotcakes.
You don’t have to and never will have to
It be cool to see a drag test between, the 392, 4xe, and diesel Wrangler.

@@marvinheadrick3511 I don't understand what the F150 Raptor or Ram TRX has to do with this mid sized SUV segment?.. The Ram and F150 are full sized pickup trucks..
