  • Knit and purl are the two foundational knitting stitches. You will need to learn them both to be able to knit adorable toys. But first we are going to make a pit stop for a little encouragement. Afterwards we will peek at my newly organized yarn. And finally I will share the teeny tiny vintage hangers I found at my local antique mall.

    Your enthusiasm is contagious! Love the little rhyme and I may use it to help others. I learned using English technique but had to retrain myself to use continental knitting due to tendinitis in my elbow.

    • @EliseRoseCrochet
      @EliseRoseCrochet  4 роки тому +1

      I thought the rhyme was really good as well. I think it could help a lot of people. That is interesting about the continental method helping. My tendinitis is so much better now that I'm mostly knitting and not crocheting. But it can aggravate a cyst I now have in my wrist. Icing my elbow and wrists seems to help me so much!

    i started learning how to knit a while ago, and then i made a big mistake... i bit off a LOT more than i could chew. like WAYYYY too big of a project. i was determined to create this blanket for my cat but man i kept losing motivation and then when i got back to it a few weeks/months/years later i would make mistakes being out of practice, and the cycle would repeat... FOUR YEARS it took me to finish this blanket, the ugliest little thing you'll ever see, and now you know what, my only pair of knitting needles are free again and i'm determined to get back into it. wish me luck, i've got a whole winter break to work on my knitting!

    Hi Elise, thank you for the videos they are so inspiring. Always bring joy to my heart and smile to my face. I have a question maybe too dumb to ask. I was following a free Sunny Bunny pattern and the pattern say x amount row of stockinette stitches. I like to know does a row of stockinette refers one row of knit stitches and one row of purl stitches total as one row? Or one row means only knit stitches, another row of purl stitches? This question really bothers me. Because if I make mistake I would double the length of the piece.

    • @EliseRoseCrochet
      @EliseRoseCrochet  Рік тому

      I actually don't think that's a dumb question at all. I looked it up and found this quote from Wool and the Gang: "Let's learn how to knit the stockinette / stocking stitch. This stitch is made up of one row of knit stitches and one row of purl stitches. By alternating these two types of stitches you end up with a really classic and beautiful texture and pattern." I'm assuming based on that quote that it includes the knit row and the purl row. Hope that's what it means. Can you look closely enough at the photos to count the rows? Sorry I can't be more help! That is confusing to me too!! ❤️

    So I want to learn to knit just to make the knit amigurumis. I have crocheted a lot but just recently started with amigarumi. The knit animals appeal to me much more than the crocheted. I think I prefer dolls in crochet. But anyway I was wondering if trying an amigarumi right after I learn to knit is too ambitious? I am more motivated to learn for this purpose than to make clothes etc. although so really do like some of the color work you can do with lint as well. Also what about needle sizing with amigarumi. I usually use quite a bit smaller size crochet hook than the recommended size when I do amigurumi. Also what would you suggest for start up needles. I do like to start with quality equipment to not make it more difficult because of sub par hooks or needles but can’t afford the very top of the line. I use Clover Amour crochet kooks which aren’t cheap but not as bad as some

    • @EliseRoseCrochet
      @EliseRoseCrochet  3 роки тому +2

      I think you should jump into knitting toys. I recently did an entire video about beginner knitted toy patterns, I'll link it below. I would use the needles that are recommended for the pattern, it's a little different with knitting than crochet and "most" of the time you don't need to go down in size, as long as you're using the same yarn or a good substitute. ua-cam.com/video/V8FGe3Uc89g/v-deo.html

    For the purl technique, here is my verson of the poem:
    In through the back yard
    Around the face
    But naughty lil' Jack
    Can't keep the pace
    Sorry if It has no sense but for me, it works to memorize the steps 😅

      @@EliseRoseCrochet Well, you take the yarn in your left hand, first between your pinkie and your ring finger, from back to front, then between your middle finger and your index finger from front to back. Roll around your index finger twice, and your index finger will control the tension of the yarn. ... In your right hand, you have only the needle, You never move the yarn, you only ever move the needle, and use it to pull the yarn through the stitches as needed.
      I never realized that people in other countries were doing this any differently.

    • @EliseRoseCrochet
      @EliseRoseCrochet  3 роки тому +1

      Yes there are two different ways to knit, there is English knitting (which is what I do) and then continental knitting which is what it sounds like you do. In English knitting you "throw" the yarn.
