Dusty never ceases to amaze and delight, even with songs I've heard hundreds of times.... But THIS song, her emotive and beautiful hand gestures, the feeling in her eyes, her voice, her interpretation is masterful. Nobody tells a story as beautifully poignant as Dusty does. Nobody! She's the G.O.A.T. RIP Beautiful Lady, Beautiful Soul.
I adore Dusty’s version of this song. She really brings it to life. What an incredible storyteller, and what a beautiful, haunting voice. Such a loss to the world 💕
I was digging in the garden, listening to my iPod, this song came on, I must have heard it before, but the time hadn't been right until now. The line in the song and Dusty's voice when she sang "Hangs by her words to her life" made me sit down in awe, what genius and what emotional insight! To wives, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters, to all who hang by their words to their life, I know how it feels, you are sisters and brothers to me. Written by Barry Manilow/Enoch Anderson and interpreted to perfection by Dusty.
Wow what a pity they left this out! Can't get over how great this is, makes me terribly sad though. But that's a beautiful thing about music, it moves you. I know Dusty used to say that the music was more important to her than the lyrics but in this case she must have related to the lyrics in a way. Thank for publishing this.
Just because you're a woman doesn't mean kids and husband are the center of your universe -- my sister was severly depressed after giving birth to each of her four children. Her husband was an alcoholic and an abuser and now that her kids are all grown and two still live with her she's a nervous wreck -- but still with the abusive man and her children are all damaged goods because of it -- she is Sandra but without talk -- she won't let her walls down you can't get close to her -- it's sad really -- who wants to live that kind of life? I am just the opposite and love life to its fullest -- love kids and grandkids -- not a day goes by where I'm not grateful for the day.
She's a great little housewife Though sometimes she talks like a fool But she helps at the store in the holiday rush And she picks up the kids after school And she puts down the phone When her husband comes home And she changes from mother to wife Till she feels the words hanging between them And she hangs by her words to her life She says, "I swear I love my husband I love my kids I wanted to be like my mother But if I hadn't done it as soon as I did Oh, there might have been time to be me for myself, for myself So many things that she wishes She don't even know what she's missing And that's how she knows that she missed She's a sweetheart except when she's moody It's hard to get through to her then Depressed for a while when the youngest was born Ah, but that happens now and again Ah, she might take a drink with the housework Or when Michael's kept late at the shop A martini or two before dinner But she always knows when to stop She says, "I swear I love my husband And I love my kids And, though I wanted to be like my mother But if I hadn't done it as soon as I did Oh, there might have been time to be me for myself, for myself So many things that she wishes She don't even know what she's missing And that's how she knows that she missed Oh, they used to hold hands at the movies Now it's seldom, if ever they go Once you pay for the sitter and parking the car There's no money left for the show She was doing the dishes When a glass fell and broke on the tile And she cut her wrist, quite by mistake It was real touch and go for a while She says, "Oh God, I love my husband And I love my kids Well, I wanted to be like my mother But if I hadn't done it as soon as I did Oh, there might have been time to be me for myself, for myself So many things that she wishes She don't even know what she's missing And that's how she knows that she missed
Fantastic performance, but that's not exactly surprising from the best all-around singer ever. She could do more with a song that anyone else. The inimitable Dusty.
Pretty song.this seems an american piece...perhaps bacarach. Wrote it...in this performance and smooth and gorgeous singing voice was more and more powerful
It really doesn't matter one way or the other! It's her music and how she interpreted the songs! If that's all you've got then shut up, because you're missing the best part of Dusty!❤
i think so....I never noticed that before. It's a little disturbing and makes you wonder what was going on through her mind at the time. I love this song and love Dusty even more, though!
No, she's wiping the sweat thats dripping down her face and uses the back of her hand to not get makeup on her palm or fingers and all over her clothes. She's sweating like crazy, it's hot up there in a polyester jumpsuit, and super hot halogen lights.
I like this song but there's only one song that Dusty sang that I absolutely hate written by her lesbian lover, Carole the man pope, cuz she looks like a guy called softcore. I listened to it twice and I hated it more the second time. U.S.A.
This is a song about every woman. Amazing performance, legendary singer.
RIP Dusty, who never knew how good she was, or how loved
She passed away too soon and she wanted to live

Amazing emotional song. I have always loved it. She performs it with such feeling as one would expect from one of music’s immortals.
What an amazing lady. RIP sweet lady.
Oh damn...the waterworks just started! I love you, Dusty!!

One of the greatest singer of all time!💚💐
RIP sweet princess.
just love Dusty no matter what she sings. she is pure awesome!
Dusty delivered this song with so much emphatic emotion; like it was a part of a play with the words set in music.

Sandra: haunting lyrics by Enoch Anderson and music by Barry Manilow.
From the wonderful hand gestures,to the dramatic, but not over the top delivery...sheer perfection from Dusty.
Awesome as usual, dusty.
Stellar performance. Perfect.
This is out of this world. Thank you so very much!

Piano is gorgeous
Why did they cut this song? I hate the backlash on Sandra its such a good song!
She's a great little housewife
Though sometimes she talks like a fool
But she helps at the store in the holiday rush
And she picks up the kids after school
And she puts down the phone
When her husband comes home
And she changes from mother to wife
Till she feels the words hanging between them
And she hangs by her words to her life
She says, "I swear I love my husband
I love my kids
I wanted to be like my mother
But if I hadn't done it as soon as I did
Oh, there might have been time to be me for myself, for myself
So many things that she wishes
She don't even know what she's missing
And that's how she knows that she missed
She's a sweetheart except when she's moody
It's hard to get through to her then
Depressed for a while when the youngest was born
Ah, but that happens now and again
Ah, she might take a drink with the housework
Or when Michael's kept late at the shop
A martini or two before dinner
But she always knows when to stop
She says, "I swear I love my husband
And I love my kids
And, though I wanted to be like my mother
But if I hadn't done it as soon as I did
Oh, there might have been time to be me for myself, for myself
So many things that she wishes
She don't even know what she's missing
And that's how she knows that she missed
Oh, they used to hold hands at the movies
Now it's seldom, if ever they go
Once you pay for the sitter and parking the car
There's no money left for the show
She was doing the dishes
When a glass fell and broke on the tile
And she cut her wrist, quite by mistake
It was real touch and go for a while
She says, "Oh God, I love my husband

Well, I wanted to be like my mother

Sandra: Haunting lyrics by Enoch Anderson and music by Barry Manilow.
Woooooooo ;o)))
I find it hard to believe that in 2016---people are still mentioning lesbianism on these sites--can't you get over it and move on
Dusty Springfield was a trailblazer for the Gay community. She was the first celebrity to marry a woman when it became legal!!💜💙💚💛💛🧡❤
It really doesn't matter one way or the other! It's her music and how she interpreted the songs! If that's all you've got then shut up, because you're missing the best part of Dusty!❤
I didn"t know it....sandra is beautiful name as well dusty(even i think it's a fiction name)and as her real name
...mary isobel
I guess this was cut from the Albert Hall dvd because of the awful lighting visual?
Thank you for posting this. At 3:45 during the "wanted to be like my mother" lyric is she miming slitting her throat?
i think so....I never noticed that before. It's a little disturbing and makes you wonder what was going on through her mind at the time. I love this song and love Dusty even more, though!
In the book 'Dancing With Demons', it is said that her mother and father didn't get on.
I think Dusty was just wiping off her perspiration discreetly.

Where do you people come with these question?

Idiot.
Disgusting & appalling comment shows a bankrupt soul in need of help
What song are u talking about?
IF YOU HATED IT SO MUCH WHY DID YOU LISTEN TO IT A SECOND TIME? IF YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING NICE, THEN WHY BOTHER?
Thank you!
