Great job, Brett ! Those gun ports looked a bit tough at that angle. I would have been inventing cuss words !!! And you are never boring to listen to !!! Have a great day.
Thank you, they were a little bit of a challenge, and I'd be lying if I said no curse words were uttered, but got there in the end! Thanks for watching!
Really enjoyed your build of this beautiful plane. Very impressed with how you managed to tame the intake flame decal given the compound curves and a flat decal. I have this set of decals, and that particular decal has kept it in the box for me. Yours appears painted on. Beautiful build!
Thanks for watching. I would be lying if I said that decal didn’t give me any trouble. I kind of gloss over it in the video, but I ran into some bad wrinkles with that decal that I couldn’t smooth out with decal solution. I ended up needing to sand the wrinkles smooth, then mix up some custom yellow paint to touch up the sanded areas. I admit there were a few times I was ready to give up, but I had a lot of encouragement from the IG community and pulled through! It was worth it in the end.
Stunning job, as usual! Beautiful work scratchbuilding the details, especially considering the small (my preferred) scale! Can't believe you got that large yellow flame decal to conform around the intake!
Thank you! I'll admit, it wasn't as easy at it looked in the video, my trusty Solvaset was able to mostly get it conformed, but there were a few stubborn wrinkles that I ended up sanding down and touching up with yellow paint.
Sweet build!!! The LTV F-8U-2N Crusader is one of my favorite planes of all time. Your work here is excellent. Glad I subscribed or I might have missed this one. Thanks for sharing!!!
Awesome, thank you, I'm glad you are subscribed and didn't miss the video. This was a fun build. I didn't know much about the F-8 before this build, I always just figured it was a faster version of the A-7, but now I'm a huge fan!
Wow beautiful build of this classic gunfighter! Such colorful markings I bet that nose art decal wasn't an easy one to apply! Love all the extra details you put into it as well. 👍 I built this kit probably close to 10 years ago and it was an enjoyable build. Unfortunately my cat accidentally knocked it off the table and it suffered some damage. I still haven't tried to put it back together yet but I have at least two or three more of these in the stash waiting to be built with aftermarket decals
Lovely build, BUUUT... PUR dust IS lethal (think mesothelioma); a mask/respirator is NFG because all that dust remains in the environment ready for you to inhale later. ALWAYS work wet: use plenty of water whilst de-blocking, sawing or sanding, that way instead of dust you have a sludge which stays in one place and can be cleaned up & flushed at the end. I have access to a sink I can work in which is the best way out; always make sure you wash any residue off your hands as well -your family & pets are worth it if you're not! ;). End of Public Service announcement. :P
Great video, love this one. It seems that the yellow intake decals are a bit darker than the yellow you used on the rest of the aircraft. Other than that it really looks amazing, thanks for sharing!
Yeah, I tried to get a good match, but ultimately they don't quite line up. I have since discovered some new paints and I'd love to revisit this kit! Thanks for watching!
What ho Brett. Great build as usual. As an older jet I must say the Crusader is a nice looker. I must check what the difference is between that and the Corvair or is it Corsair. They look alike. Great stuff sir.
Hi Bret. I’ve enjoyed watching several of your videos and am more of a car modeler rather than aircraft. But I am wondering where you go to find your after market kits/upgrades and such.
I typically start with my local hobby shop, they can get in just about anything, but for online resources I will also use spruebrothers.com or kitlinx.com
I generally try not mix custom colors, I will often just use a paint straight from the pot, the only times I do any mixing will be to add a little black or white to the base color for some modulation, and I do that right in the airbrush. I assume you mean by getting up every 10 minutes its to clean your airbrush. I keep cleaning supplies at my work station. If I'm switching colors often in an airbrush session, I will generally run some thinner through the airbrush first, then follow up with water before switching to the next color, I have a small box that I use to capture all the overspray from the cleaning so that it's not going all over the place. Also, I generally use acrylic paints so I don't need strong chemicals for cleaning, usually some Isopropyl alcohol is strong enough.
Most F-8H Crusader I have built , were not accurate , mostly they had round radome base not oblong w/ c was the common errors in most kits , even resin kits don't provide those correction . 🤔
You are correct, nice catch. This kit is the only modern kit of the F-8 in this scale and I wasn't really prepared to back date it to an earlier airframe in addition to the other modifications I made to the kit, but perhaps one day I'll revisit it to make it more accurate.
Hallo dear. I dislike this video because the model is the WRONG version. The VF-84 NEVER used the E model (Academy Model) . The Bu. No. of the decals was a F-8C 145562 , conversion in a second time in K . please for the next time more research of history. Ok, this is a hobby but, never forget the right stuff
Hello, thank you for your feedback. You are 100 % correct that I modeled the incorrect version of the F-8 for this project. But it wasn't for a lack of research. I just wasn't prepared to make the changes necessary to backdate the Academy Kit. And as a modeler I've never been super concerned with getting every aspect of a project absolutely correct. On top of that 1:72 scale is still relatively new to me, and I'm not fully confident in my scratch building skills, but should I repeat this livery, perhaps in 1:48 scale (the flames are super cool) I may try to represent the aircraft more accurately. Thank you for watching regardless and providing feedback, that is what helps me to improve. Cheers! Brett
my criticisms only go in one direction. Improve and improve. I have been doing modeling for over thirty years and historical research is very important. i am sure in the future you will do better. Don't worry I've seen worse things ...

Nerves of steel. Artistry. Innovation. Imagination. You've got it all. Brilliant.
That's very kind of you, not sure about the nerves of steel, but I'll take the rest! Thanks for watching!

Very detailed & meticulous. Lots of attention if the F-8. Excellent model.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Awesome build! Love the way you added the seat at the end 👍🏻👍🏻 great masking too
Thank you so much 😁
Nice build man, The Crusader is another great looking airplane.
Thanks, I agree, great looking jet!
Great job om "The Last of The Gunslingers" - you attention to detail is fantastic and the additional work done in the gear bays makes them really pop
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it.
Insane level of detail. on q 1/32 it would be difficult, let alone 1/72. The balls it took to drill those holes 5:40 and cut out the panel.
Thank you! I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous when I started to drill those holes.

great built, inspiring!

Most impressive work with the markings, both painted and decaled.
Thank you so much 😀
"The Last Gunfighter". Just scribed'. Awesome build videos. Love the sanding stick and putty to secure parts. 👍
Thank you, and thanks for the sub!
FANTASTIC work sir. I love the color you achieved on the top of the plane. Not to mention all the scratch building. Thank you for sharing.
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Awesome build! I liked the way you had panels open and the diorama was simple but nicely done!
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful piece of work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Very impressive!!! 👍
Thank you! 👍
Beautifully done.
Thanks for watching!
A really superb built of the classic Mig Master.Very realistic indeed it just looks like the real thing. Its Gulf of Tonkin allover again.
Thank you so much 😀 Thanks for watching!
I have this kit in my stash as well the Hasegawa offerings - this has motivated me to bring it out and give it a go - Great job 👏 Thanks for sharing
I’m glad to hear it! I wish you luck with your build.
That scratchbuilding is really inspirational. Great job!
Glad you think so!

Always a great reminder when it comes to resin dust.
Nice job.

Fantastic.
It has flames? I expect nothing less from the Navy...
The flames make it go faster!
my guy got da banger music also
Cheers!

I like this jet fighter nice model. I want this jet of my own as a die cast model. 👍🤗😀😊🤩🤠😁💘❤️⭐🌟🌠🇺🇲🇺🇲

They do look alike, they were both built by Vaught, just served different roles.
Thanks for use my decal
They’ve been good decals so far.
Super!
Thanks!

Nice build! I enjoyed this kit and you did an amazing job! What kind of tape did you use to mask the canopy? Take care. Drew
Thanks! I used cellophane tape on the canopy, scotch tape.
@@HammerheadModelMaking thanks Brett! Might be a bit easier than Tamiya tape to see the lines!
@@Drewsmodels that’s exactly why I use it!
How do you mix all your paints and if you’re like me and only have one air brush, how do you do it without having to get up every ten mins?

I use an Iwata Eclipse.

I wasn’t aware of that shape issue.
I wish Sword would do early, round radome F-8's. With an RF-8 variant.
Nice build but VF-84 never flew the F-8E. They only flew the F-8C. But otherwise good job and well done.
