A little advice for riders, current and future...When collecting food from a restaurant LOCK YOUR BIKE UP!!!!! If there is no pole or tree, lock the front wheel to the frame so your source of income can't be ridden away. DO NOT use a cable lock or ottolock, they are useless! Use an Abus or Kryptonite folding lock. They're perfect for delivery riders and are easily secured to the frame. I've seen many ebikes stolen from the street because riders think "she'll be right" or they see others riders doing it so they mimic them or they feel the 5 seconds it takes to throw a lock on will cost them a job. I work in an industry where I see bikes get stolen from the street on a nightly basis (Sydney CBD). Trust me, it happens all night, every night! and crooks are well aware of your laziness and what your bikes are worth. They target food delivery riders and loiter near popular restaurants! Your $1500 plus ebikes will be 200m down the street in the 3 seconds you have your head turned collecting that maccas meal. They're then parted out or sold off for $100 worth of meth before you realise this ain't a prank. Don't be a victim!
Listen to the man. I've done over 500 deliveries and my bike was stolen IN FRONT OF A COP CAR and I was only inside for 30 seconds. Lost around $500 of work waiting three days for my replacement to be delivered.
I would highly suggest a bike alarm and use a zip cable lock to secure your rear wheel so they can’t ride away with it. And place some GPS stickers to deter those dumbshits.
Heck yeah it's worth it, if you've got the right equipment, you're also doing a favor for the gov, since no expense is really accrued in doing the job, except for having to change a tire, chain, and gear rings on occasion. It's a profit maker if you're fit, and you'll get an awesome exercise. Now as of August 2019, if you do over 100 deliveries, you get a free ride at college too. Can't beat a freeride at a university that touts a pricetag nearing 6 figures for final expenses. Wish this was around when I got out of highschool!! These opportunities weren't there for young people.
In my opinion the best bike for this work is a E bike. Even there are uphills you don't have any problems! I think i city hilly like auckland is quite hard!
Well there's one thing that's a given, its always available, so if you need some money, pretty good chance you can make some. I know many Uber Drivers hate it, like they'll do one day, and quit, but by bike its different, you get a good exercise and easier access into apartment complexes.
Riding ubereats feels like a race, most days, and there's things trying to stop you from getting there on time, usually it can be bad roads, etc, sore joints, a dying phone battery, leaking water bottles, the worse is a flat tire, but once you become seasoned you just know what to do when things aren't working out. Dangers:. Car traffic, cold and hot weather, road conditions. Watch for cars, and be lit, get the best reflective gear on the market.
What suggestion would you give a beginner uber eats delivery (on cycle). And what sorts of equipments or gadgets are needed to make the trip easier? Much appreciated.
In Australia the minimum wage is currently set as $19.84 per hour. Casuals get at least 25% above that. Then there's penalty rates for weekends and public holidays. Also, Australian residents do not pay tax on the first $18,200 that they earn whereas residents/foreigners on a working holiday do. Keep that in mind when comparing jobs and wondering why we generally don't tip here.
