I'm Dutch and pretty familiar in Amsterdam and I approve this message! :) In all seriousness, this is such a good video! I thought it was going to be museums and landmarks and things but these are actually really useful tips! I really appreciate the bit about drugs and sex work as well, because let's be real, that IS what a lot of tourists come for!
Can someone tell me how to get to
Easy Hotel Kruisweg 565, Hoofddorp, 2132 from Schiphol Airport by bus.
Also I need a travel card to use unlimited, for 2 days Between the above hotel and travelling around Amsterdam (I don't think I will need to use the train from the hotel). What are the cost and the type of travel card I will need.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

1. For any travel planning: 9292.nl
2. If you're just talking travel (OV-Chipkaart), you can buy an 'anonymous' card from any of the many machines around train/subway stations. If, however, you're interested in both getting around as well as visiting museums, I'm pretty sure you're thinking of the IAmsterdam card. There's options going from one, all the way up to five days. More info about the latter here:
www.iamsterdam.com/en/i-am/i-amsterdam-city-card?gclid=Cj0KCQjwzozsBRCNARIsAEM9kBMh3plYg_IUQWFUyuRpx40TZEsn7JlDkOAjsqmRNH6wFRYvl2N-iA8aAga8EALw_wcB
That top you’re wearing is so gorgeous! Your lipstick and eye color match perfectly with it
Very useful tips! I love hearing about how to get around, how to get on with the locals and how best to speak to them. I always get a bit worried about doing the wrong thing when I go abroad!
This video couldn't have come at a better time. I'm going to visit Amsterdam for the first week of May and tips of locals are just the best! Thank you!
A quick tip for people travelling to *any* EU country - 112 is the EU emergency number so you can call that number anywhere in the EU and get help (which is actually pretty awesome 🙂)
this is so helpful! I'm going to Berlin for a few days and then straight to Amsterdam for another few days before coming home (england), thanks Loepsie!
Lovely to get a local's tips for this wonderful place. Thank you. :]
Very helpful, thank you. I am going to Amsterdam this August and really looking forward for it.
Been to the Netherlands four times and I have to say this is the one of the most informative videos for traveling to Amsterdam!
Loepsie, this video was so helpful! I've been wanting to visit the Netherlands ever since I saw your vlogs when you lived in Utrecht, and am finally heading there this summer. Thank you for the tips! They are much appreciated! 😊
Yay for this video!! I'll be there in July for a week with my husband and am SO excited :) This answers a lot of those questions that don't neatly fit into a guidebook or google search.
Man, I wish I had watched this before my trip. I made a few faux pas when I was experimenting with the coffeeshops, and I didn’t even realize it in the moment. I got some weird looks when I pulled out a joint from a different coffeeshop than the one I was in. I tried to at least buy something every time I went in to not be that rude, but I was totally unaware that they really want you to only consume their product. I also will admit to smoking a joint in the street, another thing I didn’t know was not okay. I apologize for being a bad tourist and hopefully I can visit again to redeem myself, because Amsterdam was such a beautiful city and I’m itching to come back:)
literally going to amsterdam in a few months this was perfect timing 😊
How cool. My great grandmother was Dutch and I’d love to visit one day! Thanks for the tips!!! ✌️♥️
Thanks for this!! Very helpful!
Very useful! It's also worth noting that you can only use coins (not notes) in the train ticket machines. That was frustrating!
No, you can also use a credit card.
@@vangrails phew.
Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful cities i've ever visited. Truly amazing! Love the atmosphere there :D
Hello!! I saw you today in the Albert Cuyp Market!! Loved and used your tips on my travel now to Amsterdam! 😊
I've been to Amsterdam many times, and this is probably the best video I've seen. To be honest, I've never felt that Dutch people were rude in any way. On the contrary, I've always found them to be nice as could be. It's true that everybody speaks English fluently, but I do wish I had taken the time to learn to say at least something in Dutch! Yes, out of respect for the country, but also because I think Dutch sounds so great - I loved the way she pronounced "Haarlem" and "De Pijp".
My only disagreement with most opinions about the Dutch is about their standoffish nature. My big interest is trains, and during my last trip I was riding from Utrecht back to Amsterdam, when a woman took the empty seat next to me, said something in Dutch, and when she realized I was lost, she switched to the most fluent English you ever heard and we had a wonderful chat the whole way. When I told her about my interest in trains, she recommended I go back to Utrecht to the train museum, which I did the next day. And she was not the exception - most people I ran into in all my trips were like that.
If that's being direct, there's nothing wrong with it at all! Again, great video!
Thank you for the tips 😁 planning my trip to Amsterdam at the moment and really helped me 😊
Lovely as always! Do you think you could do a beauty beacons on Mary Shelley? It would be perfect timing with the movie coming out about her
The Netherlands was one of my favorite countries in Europe to visit! I stayed in Westzaan which was stunning, and I'm not kidding certain streets had a scent of chocolate in the air!!!!
Thank you Lucy, great VLOG. It has been many years since I last came to Amsterdam. Maybe this year I will return.
Great tips! I lived in Utrecht for a year in 2016 for my erasmus and these tips are spot on :)
I love this because I've been twice and after a while we weren't really sure what to do! Love your videos. I'm from Scotland! :D
Thank you! Very helpful
Thanks so much for this video! I will be visiting for a day in Amsterdam :)
This was a great video. Thanks.
Great video with fantastic advice.
I have visited The Netherlands, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and other places so many times and will be again soon.
But, if it was new to me and I needed a few tips and ideas i.e. areas of Amsterdam, bikes, surrounding areas etc this was an ideal 'taste'! :)
Hope ur having a good day Lucy!!
We are going to Amsterdam next month and I was just thinking that it would be great if you would film a video about the city :) And here it is :) Love it! Thank you :)
Thanks for the information.
Really cool! You could do a video showing the city with tips of nice places to visit.
Thanks for the tips... I really like your outfit... What are you wearing??
Looks great. The city has so much history as well. Would been interesting to see how it looked 500 years back or so
Im mexican and i lived in Haarlem for a year!, you are so lucky to live there, i will go back there and stay for sure, yor country it's pretty much perfect and a living postcard
Awesome video...love u loepsie
Interesting video! I think it's always challenging to describe the own hometown to travellers and look at it from a different perspective. The "directness" is also a common thing in Germany, and even more in the northern region where I come from. I felt SO impolite when I was in London some weeks ago, haha!
nice tips., thanks!
i visited in 2013! loved amsterdam! we stayed in a hostel in the "downtown" for one night (i don't know if it's known as that in dutch) and then LEFT to a bit further out, near the van gogh museum because it was so much quieter, more families and gardens. we only stayed for a week so there wasn't time to see the rest of the city. I wish i could have seen Haarlem! It was around easter time and we only had a week before we had to start work again.
we actually hired bikes that were painted fully black so it wasn't an as obvious tourist bike hahaha, and we rode ALL DAY around the edge of the city centre. it was awesome! it was pretty quick to work out the rules of bikes, but i preferred to stay away from where cars were as those rules were hard to understand, and as an australian cyclist i have a fear of cars ;b
The netherlands are definitely a place I am excited to return to!
really appreciate your video...you have any updates for this current time..? im planning a visit in 2022
Hi...Just came back from the Nederlands...Unfortunately in the red light district I saw many tourists passing by with their children...apparently it's the main attraction for most people. Transportation wise I did walk throughout the city...apart from one day when I rented a bike to go to Volendam...it was a nice experience, although the city bikes are a pain in the ass...literally! :) Bikers in the city drove me frustrated a bit...they are just the kings although sometimes they get badly injuered...Still while cycling I did like a king as well! :)...I spent a evening in De Pijp, which is very Dutch and nice...I visited Anne Frank huis, Van ogh museum and Reijksmuseum...also a canal cruise...and all in 3 full days...after that I had several day trips, some from Amsterdam, some from Rotterdam: Volendam by bike, then Utrecht (which was my favourite), Rotterdam (the worst), Delft, Hague, and 2 hours in Leiden...another day I left the Nederlans and went to Antwerpen and it was a nice discover...Along the way I saw several wind mills, so I just chose not to do a specific visit to a mill site....Ciao from Sardinia
Ah this would have been so so helpful a few weeks before
This video makes me want to go visit Amsterdam. Really wish that I could. Maybe someday.
Maybe someday again! I would like to find Dutch food that is not heavily influenced by Indonesia! I have tender taste buds😂
Ahah so funny I am coming to Amsterdam on Saturday (from northern France it is really close) ! I will keep in mind your recommendations about the places to see 😊
Nice and interesting video, nice personality
Hello Lucy !!!
Love from India .
I have successfully messed my hair up again in an attempt to get bangs like yours. But I promise I will try again once they grow back . The heart wants what it wants .
Love you . ❤️😅😄
Thank you for this. I’m visiting in April 2020. How can I meet locals while I’m visiting for 5 days? Any cool websites or Apps you know of that help with this?
I have been visiting the Netherlands since 1996 I never ride a bike, it looks like fun, but if you want to ride do outside the Center City. Tires getting caught in Tram tracks are brutal, I have seen many of these accidents. Love your advise, is spot on. One thing I would recommend is that people coming for the Coffee Shops find your hotel or where ever you are staying first write on your arm if you have to. The Netherlands is a beautiful country. I will see you May 2019.
Fine. Thanks a lot lady.
Hi there! Great video. I have a question. My spouse has high blood sugar. And I’ve been watching all these videos with waffles and pancakes. Do they offer no-sugar or low-sugar alternatives in Holland? Thank you in advance.
Fantastic video ❤ thank you❤
I agree, get an OV Chipkaart and enjoy unlimited tram trips throughout the city.
IMHO, the best bargain there is. So much easier to use than the old strippenkaart.
As far as the Red Light District, who in the world would bring their child?
Also, when I went to Amsterdam several months ago I invested in a purse with a zipper! (I didn't realize this but all my purses have snaps!) And I tried to always remember to keep my purse close to my body.
I have visited Amsterdam several times and all these times I was wondering does smoking in parks like in an isolated place where there is no children or people that may be annoyed okay ?
please do a video about summer hairstyles w/ bangs, it's very hot in the philippines right now and i don't want to cut my hair just because of the heat. i hope u can help me out 💕
Great work! Could you help us with more information like: which agency / website is serious in order to find the single room to rent if we are coming in Amsterdam (no ABnB). Also, which agencies are the most reliable and depandable to use in order to find a job? Thank you :)
If this video was posted just 3 days earlier! I just came back from Amsterdam!
I had no idea you lived in Amsterdam! haha Thanks for the tips in case I ever go there. :)
Thanks for this video Loepsie👍💖❤❤❤❤👄💋💋💋💋
I recently saw a docu on the Rijksmuseum refurbishment/reopening 2013 and now want to spend a week in it, it looks fabulous. I'm surprised you didn't mention any culture...
The Rijksmuseum is wonderful! I didn't mention any museums because I don't have tips for those beyond what you'll find in every tourist guide :) I wanted to provide some extra info you might not come across otherwise so I skipped a lot of the standard stuff, but there are definitely lots of museums worth visiting in Amsterdam!
This was so helpful, thank you so much! My fiancé and I booked a trip for a week in the beginning of August. Do you have any tips for us going during that time? I want to make sure I don’t miss out on anything that could be an experience 😁
Considering the lockdown and crisis we're currently in... I really can't say what the city will look like come August. Many cafes and restaurants are on the verge of bankruptcy atm, so are theaters and other entertainment venues 😅 We've been advised not to book any holidays for the summer over here, honestly my biggest tip right now would be to push back the trip 🙈
thanks!! :D
just in time. I will be going Germany next week and If I can, I really wanna visit Utrecht and Amsterdam. where should I go? last time I was in Germany, I went to Venlo for a short time and I love it.
I personally prefer Utrecht, but there's more to do in Amsterdam :)
Where to go in winters, I am comming to amsterdum december 30th ,2018
Im visiting amsterdam, utrecht, maastricht for about 10days in november :D
Don't mind if I ask, as I am completely new to Amsterdam and will be going there soon, how do I tell apart the "coffee shops" and regular cafes? Some of them seem really similar and I would like to avoid these "coffee shops" as much as possible. Thanks!
@thejokerceso Oh dear, thank you for the heads up :)
Great video!
Hello. I am going to be in Amsterdam next week. Any recommendations about the weather? Is it cold? I am thinking about taking just sweaters no coats. Thank you very much !!
The weather can fluctuate a lot this time of year, expect temperatures between 10 - 25 degrees. We get lots of rain, so definitely bring a coat :)
Thank you so much for your help!!
i am planning a trip to amsterdam during august end (20-27) what will the weather be like ?? wat sort of clothes should i carry ?? kindly tell
Its summer. But they said bring umbrella/raincoat just in case. I also goin to ams on that week 🤙
Thank you sooo much!! I'm the one that asked about the tulips on instagram (ig handle is ioanatheiguana). I can't wait to check out those cities you mentioned, this was so kind of you!!! Always a pleasure to see your videos
You are soooooo beautiful ! Oh good video too
Thank you for your video! I'm very curious to know if the public transportation system is accessible for, as an example, wheelchair users? I mean, are there mostly stairs on and off the buses and so on? I would love to visit Amsterdam someday, but as I am in a wheelchair, I need to plan it from an accessible kind of view! ;) Love your channel! 😘
Most vehicles should be accessible for wheelchairs. When there are stairs, I'm pretty sure there's always an elevator nearby. I have to admit I don't know too much about this though, as it's not something I've ever really paid attention to. Sorry!
Loepsie It's really ok, no need to be sorry 😂 The answers you gave are quite enough for now! Thaaank youuu! 🌼
Hey Cecilia, I wrote a long response, but I deleted it.. in short: the dutch public transport is not that accesible, especially the transport in cities (bus, tram, metro). My recomendation is: take a trip to the Netherlands, but maybe only go on a daytrip tot Amsterdam (maybe with a taxi van, you don't want to drive there yourself) and for the rest of your trip go see what Elde the Netherlands have to offer :) most places in our country, beside Amsterdam are easy to acces with car and walking. For example Utrecht (where i live hehe) you can park closer to the city center and the streets aren't as crowded as in Amsterdam. Hope this helps :)
Marjolein Thanks for your answer!!! :) I love challenges but that doesn't sound very good with no (or at least very little);accessibility 🙄😯. I'm going to think about this and look up some alternatives, because I love travelling but not the idea of being limited while doing it 😎
Loveee yuuu xx
Bravo that you addressed the elephant in the room. Recently while in Europe, sadly I have to admit that we avoided Amsterdam because of those elephants.
What is your haircut's name
hi , I am planning to visit Amsterdam. can i go to zaanse schans using OV-chipkaart?
As far as I'm aware, yes. Maybe not if you use one of the special tourist busses but I'm not familiar with those
Can someone tell me how to get to
Easy Hotel Kruisweg 565, Hoofddorp, 2132 from Schiphol Airport by bus.
Also I need a travel card to use unlimited, for 2 days Between the above hotel and travelling around Amsterdam (I don't think I will need to use the train from the hotel). What are the cost and the type of travel card I will need.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hey! Don't know if you have already been, but this website : 9292.nl/en will get you anywhere in the Netherlands by public transport. On this website you can also see the costs of the trip you are going to take. You can buy a travel card called 'ov-chipkaart' at schiphol as well. You can add credit to it at any train station and some supermarkets and is the most affordable way to travel in the netherlands. This card will work on all public transport (train, bus, metro, ferry).
If you are only in the Netherlands for a layover and only need to go to and from the hotel once it is better to just get the tickets in the bus.
This is kind of a random language question: you said pretty much everyone speaks English as well as Dutch there, do people also speak other languages, for example, German?
I wouldn't count on it, not to the extent they speak English in any case.
As a Canadian we are the exact opposite, it's very frowned upon to be rude here. You guys must get along very well with Americans!
Oh being rude is very much frowned upon over here too, every culture just has a different definition of what rude is :)
Don’t cry baby u r beautiful I like u I’m pilipino from Dubai uae I will visit there in august
Oeps...i am from Amsterdam! ;)
I visited Amsterdam in 2013 and people were smoking joints out in the streets.
If they didn't do it, I wouldn't have to advise them not to :) It definitely happens (a lot) and I think it's horrible
People sadly do smoke joints out in the streets. Mostly these people are tourists. It's extremely frowned upon by locals and in some places in the Netherlands (such as The Hague), you can actually get in trouble with the police for smoking weed in public. So it's also kinda illegal, besides being rude.
@@Lilitush It shouldn't be illegal.
well, i guess that you already knew BEFORE you where coming to Amsterdam that We dutch may smoke joints , in the coffeshops, were you can buy it? maybe that whas your reason to visit amsterdam? the most foreign visitors do. and...feel free, come to amsterdam, smoke a joint if you want ( i do not) and enjoy the city and the people, we got great outgoing centre, so enloy, come here and feel free.
💖
Just be kind wherever you go in the world, if someone doesn't like you who cares.
I've been to Amsterdam two years ago and I think what you said is a 100% TRUE! Especially with the cyclists in the city. I'd also highly recommend Keukenhof (pls do check their website for opening hours).
i will look what she tells about my country, and then give feedback
(Looking for job)Mrs.Loepsie I need help from you.
you remind me of the 1980s model Paulina here.
I've always thought that you live in the US
Love u loepsie😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
Anyone else having issues watching this video? Every other Video on yt ist working though.... O.o
Yeah, this video's not working for me at all. It keeps lagging. All other videos are fine, it's just this one.
Me
It was being suuuuuuper laggy on my phone, but laptop was ok.
kittypower361 thx, I will watch it on my Laptop then 😊
Thought it was just me, thanks!
Hi there, we've been enjoying traveling along with you on your 'insiders' video, (especially as we make 4k walks and have just filmed Amsterdam too), so it's lovely to see a different eye view, thank you. Perhaps we could subscribe to each other and share more?
My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Amsterdam and we're going back again this year for our first anniversary. There's so much we didn't see so going back to see it. I was quite surprised by the amount of English spoken there. I'm British myself and didn't need to slow down or simplify my speaking at all (I live in Germany now and when people want to speak English with me, I have to slow down so much)
Nice to see a video about Amsterdam. And I really like how you also recommend venturing outside the city and explore a bit more. Also I think it is good to warn people about the traffic (and not cycle if you really can't). But (sorry, there is a but) I really don't get why you are always saying Amsterdam is unsafe... It really isn't, if you use common sense. At least not more unsafe than Utrecht or any other European city for that matter. Anywhere within the 'ring' is fine to visit. And if I were a tourist I would do my best to avoid the most touristy area's (apart from the big museums).
I never mentioned the city being unsafe in this video, but in general: through personal experience. I have plenty of stories to tell from back when I lived here a few years back. I do have to admit I grew up in quite a sheltered environment so it doesn't take *that* much to make me feel unsafe, but it makes sense I'd see things from my own perspective. Also, when I'm visiting another city, there are certain types of areas I'd rather not end up in. I imagine I'm not the only one, it's always good to know the safe neighbourhoods so I just thought I'd throw it in :) And yes, within the ring is fine, but I wasn't sure how to explain that concisely so I just refer to it as roughly the center.
I did not want to be rude or anything. But I've been living here for almost 25 years now and it was much grimmer when I came here. And even then it was okay in most parts in my opinion. Amsterdam is a perfectly safe place to visit and sometimes I just feel a little offended when I think 'my' city is being critized. ;)
It is probably also just the fact that it is unfamiliar to you. You will probably feel the same in some years time. Maybe you should also explore a little more. :D
Don't do drugs
Do not rude to the ladies red light
Do not cycling in the centre
Use common sense
Gods help me in Amsterdam!
I visited The Netherlands in January... I fell in love! I went to Amsterdam, Zaanse Schans, Utrecht and Den Helder. I loved your public transportation system, it works perfectly and it takes you anywhere, no need for cars. I didn't rent a bike because I only learned how to ride last year so I didn't want to be in the way... I've always wanted to live abroad and The Netherlands, along with Ireland and Denmark, is one of the countries I'd like to move to. Thank you for your tips!
You went to Den Helder?! Cool. I'm from there originally (now Amsterdam) and there are hardly any tourist going there. Just out of curiosity.... Why did you decide to go there and what did you think of it?
Hi! I wanted to see the Noordzee so I chose Den Helder, I thought that Zandvoort was too touristy... I visited Den Helder, Huisduinen and its lighthouse, I loved it! It was very quiet, immersed in nature, amazing. It was quite foggy that and it looked kinda magical to me! I would've loved to go to Noorderhaaks but in January it was rather complicated. My boyfriend and I were the only people there, we met just one man walking his dog!
That's so cool. Love to read that you liked it. I had to look up Noorderhaaks. I call that 'de Razende Bol'. And I can imagine it would not be easy to arrange getting there. There is nothing there (literally) so there are no tours or ferry or anything. You would have to charter a boat and I can see that that would be a problem in January. ;) If you ever plan to come again I can recommend visiting one of the Islands too.
May I ask where you are from?
Thank you, I would love to go there again! I'm from Genova, a city in northern Italy
Cool. Love Italy. I've been in Genova though. Is it worth visiting?
I GAVE BEEN TO EINDHOVEN AND LUUUUVED IT. THEY ASKED ME NOT TO SPREkt Dutch, cause I was killing their language...lol🤣🤣
Eindhoven isn't even close to Amsterdam 🙈
Aramızda Türk varsa eğer, bu kızın nekadar ÇOK Pelin karahan'a benzediğinin farkında mı? Sanki ikizi😲
