Hey Ashley and Ben. Hope you are both well. One thing I have hardly seen on UA-cam is any sailors commenting on how the sailing community is dealing with Travel and port issues with the Virus who are not residents or citizens of that country Cheers be well
I grew up in Indonesia and as a kiwi I found them to be very kind and courteous. The officialdom was somewhat tedious but never felt threatened or in danger at any time. Most of Asia is the same. It’s a wonderful word out there.
In some countries, going through Customs and Immigration can be quite stressful. It's good to see the officials you dealt with were in such good spirits and treated you well. Of course, like anything else; much of the way people treat you has to do with the attitude you present and the way you treat them. You two are experienced enough to know a little "honey" goes down much easier than "vinegar." Keeping everything light and pleasant always helps. There was one time many years ago when traveling into Canada from the US by motorcycle: A young Canadian Customs official had me unpack all my gear (camping stuff) and went all through it. He was very polite and kept apologizing. I told him he never has to apologize for doing his job and I was perfectly fine with what he was doing. The inspection went quickly and smoothly, and we parted shaking hands and on good terms. Of course, it helps I speak fluent Canadian, eh? I have a clear understanding of Canadian words such as "Molson," Labatts," and of course I also understand a little bit of "Newfie" ("Screech"). 😀
Ben & Ashley - Great tips in this vid - asking whether it is OK to film before you start filming & showing Customs & Port officials respect & they will respond similarly - overall less hassles...!
That’s wonderful that they’re so thorough. Stay safe and enjoy your beer. Ben would love Australia. We have craft beers in every town and all the named beers as well. I don’t drink beer but Aussies are known for appreciating a frothy.
@@estrelladelmar6466 ... some people of color or disability may not have the same experience anywhere in the world, but in America they are doing everything they can to get in. How about your country?
The last thing they want to do is pay to put you in one of their prisons. There's only a couple countries that might use a tourist as leverage, and you are probably already avoiding them for a host of other reasons.
Thank you to for visited Indonesia... my lovely country, i hope you enjoyed your times in Indonesia...and hope some time i can make my dream to go sailing around the world by catamaran as you are😊
We love watching you guys!! Did you know you guys had a huge impact on our decision to buy a boat as we chase the wind kiteboarding?! ❤ Can't wait so see Willa on board!!!
Not that I would do it or suggest it but what it to stop someone putting narcotics or disassembled firearm in a weighted pvc pipe with magnetic cap and dropping it inside the diesel tank to retrieve later with a magnet on a fishing line? As already stated I'm not suggesting this unless you like the idea of life imprisonment or firing squad.
Always look forward to your uploads every Sunday morning... it's the way I start my day thank you guys for the great content keep up the good work!!! Stay safe see you next upload
Congratulations on 200k, very deserved for all the time, effort, work and love you two put into every video. And, congratulations on your new crew member. Stay safe back home. 🎉🍾😷
I was in the Jungle in the Pekanbaru area and Duri, Dumi City, Indonesia before. There are a lot of beers and whiskey there. That was in the middle of nowhere, and yes, they have bars. The bars there are different from Western or Developed Tourist countries. The bar there just a hut and a few service lady and a few chairs(almost broken). The light was very dim because they can't waste too much power(they use their own generator) and focus most of the power in cooling beverages. Dark beer seems to be very popular there. If you see the dark been picture in front of the hut, then you can be sure that is a bar. Lots of cold beers though(that is what they emphasized). That was over 20 years ago, I'm not sure if that part of the country developed yet. During my stay there for 3 months, there are reports of tigers and elephants, and many other animals. I've seen many other animals but not tiger though. I would say Indonesia is the most relaxed Muslim country I ever visited. I did not notice any form of prohibited alcohol consumption there. At least I did not see it, and those service lady also work with you for extra money, if you fancy them(you know what I mean). The looks of those service lady, well, that was in the middle of the jungle almost no other sign of civilization there, so the choice is quite limited(to put it nicely). Pekanbaru itself was quite developed compare to Duri and Dumi at that time(it's like heaven and earth in comparison).
love you two, sounds a bit weird but what has love got to do with it, another journey into another world called U Tube. Thank you two..and all the people involved
I remember the "Black Gang" in UK: they came in droves checking everything and everywhere aboard ships, looking for cigarettes, alcohol and, surprisingly, toys. They opend panelings, manholes, inspected every corner, beam and double bottom: there was one sacred space only; the Master's living quarters: that they did not search. Years 60/70ties.
Indonesia is a wonderful country. Spent a few months there years ago. People don't drink much there. I gave one of the Indonesian guys I worked with alcohol and they got a bunch of people drunk. They probably want to avoid getting people drunk in small island towns.
The world is full of beautiful people. Safe sailing and check limitations on travel to Malaysia guys. It’s getting super restrictive on travel world wide with this virus doing the rounds. Ever thought of embedding a qr code on your shirt or other merchandise? Scan and directs to your vlog. Pity your not crossing to Singapore
They were looking for endangered or banned animals when you leave Indonesia. I dont think they would arrest you for alcohol, except if you brought in more than 2 bottles. Yes you can buy beers in Indonesia, but you cant drink it in public places.
Damn those alcohol incompatible baby-makers! They should get a firmware update for that. Best of luck to you Ashley! Hope the two of you are enjoying parenthood already back home.
officially foreigners who enter Indonesia are only allowed to bring only one liter of all type alcohol, and the excess will be discarded..if u want more you can buy in a special or certain place even though it is very difficult to find on indonesia, but a little easier if the place is usually visited by foreign tourists, because local people know that foreigners are definitely looking for it.

Of coz malaysian and indonesian custom a bit strict when it come to illegal drug as it is punishable by death if you possessed certain amount of dope as you can be charge as drug dealer.
Hi guys I am new to your channel.I am getting hooked, I am looking at buying a boat and travelling. Do you leave the dingy on the beach unattended or is someone watching it? And if it's attended is there a charge?
Use to bring stuff back and take stuff to trade all over the world in the US Navy! Custom couldn't go into our secert spaces!! And my Torpedo magazine room was huge! You were so nice and patient!!
Customs are weird everywhere. Once we had our stuff taken for a day after they searched it and next day they searched again before they gave it back, lol. Another we paid thousands to go thru faster, when we got there they said they lost the papers so it took much longer, lol.
Indonesia has a huge drinking culture ... I have lived here 3 years and travelled east and west from Ambon to Medan to suluwesi haha ... it’s just a little behind closed doors even Islamic people in Indonesia drink it’s a very secular nation apart from aceh where it is banned ... not to mention it’s probably the highest smoking nation in the world
True that there is a lot of drinking, but culturally it's not a social thing. You wouldn't go over to a family gathering and drink alcohol, etc. It's seen as a vice.
Come visit us in penang malaysia...... bad news is we are under temporary lock down from 18-31march..... grocery is available everywhere but many delicious hawker food is not available...... haha

Wonderful to be checked? It’s needless delays.
I think I would always be terrified of having something 'planted' to be found during the search. Paranoia strikes deep.
