If BTBAM needed my car, I'd give them my car. If BTBAM needed my home, I'd give them my home. What they have contributed to the musical world and what they have contributed to my life is immeasurable. I met Paul and Tommy after a show in Hollywood circa 2008, and I was a dumb stoner kid that asked them about the meaning behind Lost Perfections A & B, and they were still so nice about it. My friends and I saw Tommy in a Barnes and Noble at a different show in Hollywood, and we chose not to speak with him because he appeared to be in an argument with his girlfriend at the time. This is all to say that they are my favorite band of all time, I love them dearly, and I take every chance I get to spread them to others. "This music will not be easy to digest but if it ever clicks with you, it will be the best thing, musically, to ever happen to you."
That last quote is beautiful man. I’m beginning to click with their music and I have to say that you are absolutely right. Thank you for sharing that story.
For me I can't get into much past the silent circus but having said that those first two albums have had the same effect on me. I have known about BTBAM since before they were even signed to Lifeforce and still just had a demo and I even then I instantly knew these guys were special. Better than From Here on and Prayer for Cleansing even.
Dude, I feel ya. I've been a fan since Silent Circus (not looking for cred, it's just been a long time) and I fanboi'd out on Dustie at the PRS booth at NAMM one year. I felt like such a dope and even weirder is that these guys are like my age. My peers almost. Aren't you supposed to be in awe of old rockstars? JK They're fuckin awesome.
3:35 times like that are ones I miss the most from having my own band, just laughing at each other for mistakes, and laughing at ourselves. I also love that Paul, despite being a guitar God, is such an immensely humble dude, he's the best.
3 years late but they all have a good sense of humour so I thought Dusty did something like flashed his dick to the camera while he was off camera. Could be anything
What the heck, me too...I was like, this band is doing a great job of lifting Dream Theater, and then vocal started and thought BTBAM...then I thought they lifted the old school Meshuggah part and read a few comments and realized it was BTBAM...😂
This will forever be my favorite solo. Years of listening to it at this point and it never gets old. You guys are truly talented, thank you for all the joy and relaxation you bring into my life🤙🤘
My best friend and I covered the back half of this song. We spent hours doing our best to perfect it to impress them if they ever saw it. Glad to see they still make mistakes on their own songs too. Makes it that much more pure. 🤘🏻😄🤘🏻
I've seen them play this like 9-10 times live, and I usually end up on Paul's side of the stage. He has that same smile when he finishes the sweeps every time that just says "Damn... still got it".... These dudes slay
During some random night back in late 08 or early 09, surfing old UA-cam as a kid, I discovered this song. Never heard BTBAM before this, never even really heard too much prog metal to begin with because my choice of music at that age mostly revolved around alt metal, nu metal, some thrash metal and metalcore. This opened my mind up to a completely new world and I still credit the guitar solo at the end for setting the bar for all other guitar solos for me. On that note, Paul seemed just a little bit off while playing that solo. Still great playing from him, and still a great performance from all of the band. On my bucket list to watch them live on stage one day.
Definitely go if you get the chance, they are absolutely amazing live. I usually hear Tommy say about 12 words that aren't lyrics. They go on, stuff their entire set with flawless performance, and leave. I love seeing them and go every time they are near by.
I have a buddy who would get KTFO anytime we would go see BTBAM at the Palladium in Worcester, MA. We stopped letting him come to these shows with us. Fun times, though!
These live-streams were awesome. I didn’t get to see the Friday night stream, but I caught the Saturday stream. Streams like this have almost made all the concert cancelations bearable.
I moved from NZ to USA in 2005. I got cable and found the metal channel. NZ had nothing like USA available. So I hear this song, thinking it's a Norwegian death metal band. Loved it. I brought Alaska cd. Anyway we eventually divorced and I decided to move back to NZ. Then I moved to Australia. It was there I learned they were from Charlotte NC where I lived for 5 years. Anyway, I saw them at a concert in Adelaide. And Tommy and Paul and Blake and Dusty were all awesome. Bassist was a little standoffish but he was still cool. We talked for about 15 minutes I think. They hired a van or two carry their equipment. Love em
He went from looking like someone who runs a movie rental shop to a guy who models for perfume and suit brands. Short hair suits him a lot more than long hair
Love it! O.o this song was one of the influential forces in me learning to play guitar a decade ago. Glad you guys went with both lead guitars on outro instead of lead + rhythm like you did in your colors dvd
which one of them said that they're rather do something horribly painful like drag their balls across broken glass instead of playing Selkies one more time? lmao
@@Yousuck00 I don't think he hates the song, I think he just doesn't like playing the song. Maybe it's harder for him or it hurts his hands or something, idk I'm not a guitarist.
Personally, I get Dusty's burnout. I was in a band with a song that stuck around forever and kind of became our "hit". Every show we played people would ask us to play it. After 4 years of playing that particular song, I ended up hating it simply because I had played it so many times. Wasn't a bad song, just got burned out on it.
Nicholas Williams I’ve spent the last three weeks working on this solo, and can assure you that part at the end of the studio version is arguably one of the easiest, especially after getting through all those ridiculous sweeps, lol.
You're actually right. That was always my favorite riff too. It's just resolves everything that precedes it. A perfect resolution to a beautiful story.
I love BTBAM but there’s definitely some studio magic that goes into making Tommy sound perfect on the records. His live performances aren’t the best but they’ve been at it for 20 years.
For the first couple minutes I didn't know where Blake was, and then I finally noticed that he was locked up in that little room behind them... I know he's not locked in there but pretending they just chuck him in there and lock the door is funnier to think about. At least he's got two little windows to see the outside world from. 😅
Paul Waggoner is so underrated it's criminal. Guy has absurd talent on the strings. Unreal.
That key change during the solo is one of the most uplifting bits of music ever

I totally share the sentiment, but this is how cults start, my mate:)
I wonder what they were arguing about especially at a Barnes and Noble of all places lol

You can also see Blake laughing w, which is awesome
awww such a sweet moment
3 years late but they all have a good sense of humour so I thought Dusty did something like flashed his dick to the camera while he was off camera. Could be anything
I remember an age of UA-cam... where Waggoner was my absolute favorite guitarist... and every guitarist struggled to cover the solo.
8:05 Blake plays basically a flawless set, drops stick on twirl at end lol.
One of the most beautiful tone shifts of any metal song I've ever heard. Haven't listened to this in a long while. I used to love this song.
Paul throwing the pick after missing a single note is my fav moment
Man i was like is some band covering this song Jesus... Oh wait its just BtBaM

It's way, way up there for me too. Top shelf. Can't even reach it
One of my top favorite bands of all time. So good seeing them live. 🤘
BTBAM really reminds of Pink Floyd in that they have so many classic albums that could all be their best, it’s hard to choose one
i'll choose for you it's alaska

best btbam song and one of the most fantastic songs ever written. truly an achievement.
Wow. While Tommy's growling has changed a lot since 2014, he still kicks ass. Nice performance
I've seen them play this like 9-10 times live, and I usually end up on Paul's side of the stage. He has that same smile when he finishes the sweeps every time that just says "Damn... still got it".... These dudes slay

Basically BTBAM's Metropolis Pt 1
My favorite song from the band.
Genius musicians so gifted and blessed wayyyy ahead of their time
Alaska has always and will always be my favorite BTBAM record. Its nice to see anything off that album getting love this late in their career
While it's not my favorite it's a hell of an album. For me, from Alaska to Autómata they all are masterpieces.
It will be my fav always also, just because I was in high school when it came out, and it was a huge fuckin deal.
Most underrated solo out there. Really amazing!
I have Dusty and Paul’s guitar picks. Some of my most cherished itema
I have dustys. I remember catching it and some kid behind me asked if I would trade it for a joint 😂 NO

Seen these guys 3 times and they put on, by far, the best live show I’ve ever seen.
Paul lookin' like a snack
Woah
I dig the short hair on Paul
Just like the old days
With the hair he always reminded me of a more bad ass tokkie
Blakes drums sound so good on this.
Chosen by the UA-cam algorithm lol gotta love it

Yeah lol we're all gonna miss live streams after covid😂
3:35 he messes up slightly and then laughs at himself lol
And then throws out the pick like "This one's broken" haha. Glorious.
He also realized after the outro solo that his pick up switch is on the neck one lol
Yeah, he turns around to look at Blake and they both have a laugh lol
@@mgilroy726 I'm pretty sure he's smiling because they're jamming. He switches to the bridge pickup just to to play the outro chords.
He redeemed himself by nailing all those beautiful sweeps at the end.
Whenever I want to smile I watch Live btbam play through. 6:30 never gets old
I love it when they slow things down. I'm not in anyway a death-metal fan but how can you not love BTBAM...
Pretty sure BTBAM is considered Prog.
This is the first song I head from these guys, some of the best musicians in metal. Raleigh NC represent.
an all time favorite, one of the best solos ever. you guys nailed it!
That guitar solo is amazing
You could tell Paul was feeling those harmonies at 5:54
You can hear Paul say BASS DROP to Blake because he knows its not coming but needed
The best track ever made in music history
God. What I would give to have composed this....
My God, that solo is beautiful!...

Alaska
The silent circus

All of their albums are their best albums

My Fav BTBAM song! Great version of it!
Paul went from dad to daddy, real quick.
He went from looking like someone who runs a movie rental shop to a guy who models for perfume and suit brands. Short hair suits him a lot more than long hair
Gay
Beautiful music. The solos are just soooo freaking good
Still my favorite ending solo after all this year.
One of the greatest outros of all time
I remember listening to Alaska on my iPod touch in high school.
BTBAM forever!

Glad you guys went with both lead guitars on outro instead of lead + rhythm like you did in your colors dvd
I got Paul’s pick at the Mirimar in Milwaukee when they came for the Colors tour. Life achievement.
Thank u guys so much for being u!

which one of them said that they're rather do something horribly painful like drag their balls across broken glass instead of playing Selkies one more time? lmao

Blake has to be locked in a room, for everyone’s safety.
Drum isolation is standard in studios, so the sound doesn't bleed into the other mics and mess up the mix
0:32 blake adds that extra flair to the double kick patterns with those splash hits inbetween. Def wasn't written like that but it fits
Btbam just blessed us !!!
Paul is nicknamed Trigger in my head. If anyone knows Only Fools And Horse?
Paul's a road SWEEP 😅❤

Dang this must be where they keep some of the free gear that companies give them. That’s a lot of money on the floor there in cymbals alone
THOSE RAKES THOUGH wow.
What happened to his voice....jesus
I love BTBAM but there’s definitely some studio magic that goes into making Tommy sound perfect on the records. His live performances aren’t the best but they’ve been at it for 20 years.
Zero diaphragm support, in both clean and harsh vocals, been a thing with him since the Parallax 2 tour. Why? I'd love to ask him
