Happy 54th Anniversary Doctor Who!
To celebrate, the Sontarans unlike the Daleks, Cybermen, Davros etc, never got a theme featured on any of the released soundtracks. So here is a small theme medley for the little potatoes from outer space. Enjoy, comment & subscribe! :)

2:25 is where it really feels like the Sontaran theme imo it feels powerful, bombastic and triumphant like warriors marching into battle and it perfectly suits the Sontarans imo. xx

I always took it as 4:09 being the main theme/motif for The Sontarans, just not identifiable as much because it wasn't released on the S4 soundtrack.

I think it does appear in other episodes a bit though. But its mostly in these two.

it does sound like a really imposing war march, this is the song you hear which tells you that the main characters have to run or face death, damn i wish we could just get that baseline and percussion on it's own, it sounds so badass

That’s my assumption. It’s played during all of their biggest scenes during the story. A shame Murray never really got to do a Sontaran story again after this because I think it would’ve been cool to hear this theme return again. Who knows? Maybe in the new series, now that he’s back!

As much as the Chibnall era wasn’t good, ‘War of the Sontarans’ was the first time I had truly enjoyed a new episode of Doctor Who for many years.
