At first, I wasn't a terribly big fan of the Master's themes. I expected something that sounded more villainous, rather than simply chaotic and all over the place. Then I realized, it makes perfect sense. The Master isn't really evil, he's just absolutely insane. His theme is perfect for him.
At first I wasn't sure about the Master. Then I realized that he wasn't meant to be the Doctor's arch-nemesis (I far prefer the Daleks for that) he's the Doctor through cracked mirror. The Doctor isn't driven to get rid of the him, the Doctor wants desperately to give him mercy. Once I realized that everything came together. I LOVE the Master for all his various awesomenesses now.
"The Waters of Mars" shows how true this is. How the doctor so quickly switched into the Master's mindset toward the end of that episode, going from protector of the laws of time to breaking them so he could feed his newly acquired god-complex is exactly something the master would do. They're not opposites, merely two sides of the same coin.
2:02 "Oh Lucy, my dear Lucy Saxon... It's a widow's kiss bringing me to life!!. Can you hear them... THE DRUMS! The neverending drums! Oh... How I did miss them!!!"
Since it seems like the Master seems to become more and more insane with every regeneration, I think it should reach a point where he's almost like, severely ill with madness. Like to the point where it's literally tearing him to pieces and he has almost no control over himself. I think it would make for a really good episode if The Doctor realises at that point how far The Master has fallen to the point where he almost doesn't know what he's doing any more, like a wild animal. Then, whilst everyone else is trying to kill The Master for whatever he has done, The Doctor has to protect him in order to understand how to fix him. And then that would offer a really good insight into their past and their underlying friendship beneath the hatred for each other.
+shoogamoogaman I dont think I've ever agreed with something written on the internet so much in my life. This, THIS is the sort of episode i, you, and thousands more would die to see (also their backstory has been explored so little, making this episode even more necessary)
And in the final moments of that episode, the Master reveals and proceeds with his plan to steal the regeneration from the Doctor. However, as it does so, the Master starts to gain his humanity back, and the Doctor starts to lose it. The Master then realizes what he's done, and reverses the process. For a brief moment, they look at each other, completely sane. The Master is then killed by the energy required, and so is the Doctor (but he actually has regenerations to use). Of course he could be brought back, maybe a bit sane-ish. Would be a good episode.
I think you’re talking about Survival from 1989. The Master is stuck on the Planet of the Cheetah People, and slowly turns insane and into an animal, and he eventually escapes. This episode would be much better, but the basic premise is still there.
Simm's Master themes are so good. They are packed with this focused adrenaline of loud brass, dizzying and delirious strings, and the neverending drumbeat that pushes him onwards and onwards towards a destiny of destroying the universe he could never have imagined. Such a brilliant soundtrack to such a brilliant character arc.
3:57 and onwards gives me INSANE feels each and every time I listen to it- would love to hear some sort of extended version, especially as this is only a brief 20/30 seconds!
Ok, even though series 8 ignored the drumming aspect of The Master, I will pay Moffat to ask the sound mixers to play this theme when the character comes back in series 9!
I know. I'm referring to the fact that it never referenced in Death in Heaven. Not that that's a bad thing because it was a bit big headed of RTD to rewite the canon like that, but I'm really just moaning about how they didn't refer to it just they can use this theme
How To Make Time Travel impossible 1. Invent time machine. 2. Travel to 23rd century. 3. Invent probability changing machine to make probability certain that time travel machine's are impossible forever.
Yep, exactly what I thought when coming back to listen to this! Ironic, considering I used to listen to this all the time, and now I listen to Hellfire all the time! 😅
I was thinking Ben Cumberbatch would be a cool Doctor... but seeing your comment... Cumberbatch would be an even better Master! Tom Hiddleston would be awesome too.
John Canary I'm thinking that since Capaldi is the oldest actor to play the Doctor since RTD revived the show back in 2005, they should get somebody like Charles Dance to be the Master. That would be amazing.

the 2:01 hits me the most. It feels like a tragedy more than anything

Yes! This needs to happen. I'd watch it in a heart beat.
The amount of bodies, and deaths, and failures, and losses to the doctor.
You probably would go insane.

Hello Missy, I'm the Master. And I'm very worried about my future... Give us a kiss
In fact, I'd call it a genesis. More specifically, the Genesis of the Cybermen
The doctors dead, he told me he always hated you
@@DalekCaanOfSkaro NO!
I love how at 2:35 it slowly turns back into the old theme
if we never ever see the Master again I'm gonna miss him/her.
Never, never, never dying, never dying!!
Tonight,
he returns!
"You made me what I am! One! Two! Three! Four!"
YOU DID THIS TO ME!!! ALL OF MY LIFE!!!!!!! ONE!! TWO!! THREE!! FOUR!!
My washing machine beeps in a Rhythm Of four....did the Master turn into my washing machine?
Victor Peterson no sir, it’s the Archangel network, Vote Saxon!
Your washing machine is the Master's TARDIS.
3:57 and onwards gives me INSANE feels each and every time I listen to it- would love to hear some sort of extended version, especially as this is only a brief 20/30 seconds!
0:58 goosebumps every time!
I don’t know why but sometimes I tap my fingers in a rhythm of four.....
Same.
Love the choral aspect. The Master never had better music!
I'm a percussionist and now I have the drums stuck in my head
2:01 hits really hard
Never dying! Never dying! Never dying!
Heh... I got the Master a drumset for Christmas.
that pic of the master, is it me or does it remind you of Mars Attacks?
I love this theme
2:01 judge frollo is the master confirmed
Hellfire!
Darkfire!
This burning.... DESIRE!
Now gypsy.... its your turn...
Ok, even though series 8 ignored the drumming aspect of The Master, I will pay Moffat to ask the sound mixers to play this theme when the character comes back in series 9!
The drum beat has never existed before RTD. It's just his own idea, an idea which changed the Master's backstory.

Russell Tietjen The time lords removed it I think because they didn't need the signal anymore
Russell Tietjen That's because the time lords removed it when they didn't need the signal anymore.
+Russell Tietjen Actually you can hear it at the start of 'They walk among us', which is the scene just before Missy reveals who she is.
vote the master to be the doctors greatest enemy not davros. XD
I'm so
HUNGRY!
How To Make Time Travel impossible
1. Invent time machine.
2. Travel to 23rd century.
3. Invent probability changing machine to make probability certain that time travel machine's are impossible forever.
It reminds me of the storm in Bambi XD
I definitely hear Vale Decem.
Jeremy Corbyn oh shit corbz
does 2:03 remind anyone else of 'Hellfire'?
Zack Strife yes
as in Hunchback of Notre Dame Hellfire?
Yep, exactly what I thought when coming back to listen to this!
Ironic, considering I used to listen to this all the time, and now I listen to Hellfire all the time! 😅
Picture this: the Master and Discord working together
Imagine the Master and Sutekh working together.
Drew Engberg who’s discord?
@@legoroan9866 Discord is a chatting app, but I think this was an autocorrect mistake and Drew meant to say Doctor.
@@o1513 no this comment was made years before discord released, discord is a being of pure chaos
the only thing it would sound similar to would be when before the Doctor says 'I dont want to go' but even if it is y would it b in The Masters Suite?

Since Doctor who is coming back, Tom Hiddleston should be the next Master.
I was thinking Ben Cumberbatch would be a cool Doctor... but seeing your comment... Cumberbatch would be an even better Master! Tom Hiddleston would be awesome too.

SinDawg030 He's the oldest Doctor ever. He was one year older than Hartnell when filming started.
John Canary Though it would be interesting to have a younger (more childish?) master that could tease the doctor about how old he looks
.
I would agree, there would be a lot of fun in that!
the best bit starts here 2:21
2:21
2:03 - 2:15

WHY YOU NOT PUT IN MASTER RACE THEME!
The Archaic Scroll because this is from a soundtrack. Not a compilation.
its not Vale Decem
The start sounds like the joker soundtrack
Why does this sound like the joker soundtrack at the beginnings
1234 1234! HAhaHaHAhahaHA!
