Thank you for being a wonderful ambassador to General Aviation and tour-guide for many countries and their citizens. Your positivity is also really infectious. ;-)
Having lived in Zimbabwe for several years clearing landmines, I regognize all the great places, Kariba, Vic falls, Malawi, Mozambique etc. Great video's, keep up the good work in 2022!
So amazing. Flying in Africa is an incredible experience. I miss that a lot! Cant wait to see your destinations in Mozambique. I lived there for 11 years!
So happy you enjoyed the video! Gosh, I can imagine how much you miss it. I feel like we are just starting to scratch the surface of what is possible here. There is so much to see!
Cool video as always. After you said you had 10 hours of endurance from 220 liters of Avgas, I could not resist to look up the useful load of the Sling 2. Wow, damn!! Now I want one... .
Explain please. Useful load. Also, what’s flight time difference between it and commercial. They’ve made me a believer. Plus in these Covid times i think I’d prefer to fly myself around. I’m doing my research since seeing these two. But I know nothing … for now. But they’ve opened my eyes to the possibilities. Really.. you have choice between a sling 2 and a Land Cruiser Prado.. I think the sling wins 10/10
@@lezzgp The useful load is the difference between the planes basic empty weight and its maximum gross weight. In other words, the useful load is the combined weight of all fuel, oil, baggage and passengers/crew you can take with you on a trip. For many general aviation aircraft useful load is such that you need to compromise somewhere. You can either fly your 2-seat airplane for 5 hours but take no passenger with you or you can decide to take a passenger but now you can not take baggage and are limited to two hours before you have to refuel as you have to start your trip with a half empty fuel tank. Starting your trip over maximum gross weight is dangerous as your airplanes performance suffers dramatically in several ways. You would need more runway, your stall-speed increases, the plane does not want to climb and you can overload the plane structurally in turbulence causing an in-flight break up. The Sling 2's useful load is seriously impressive as it can take two people with fuel for 10 hours. That is all you will probably ever need or want unless you fly in extremely remote areas. The flight time difference is very difficult to answer. Airliners fly at anywhere between roughly 2 to 8 times the speed of a small airplane. Small airplanes can be really slow - like 70 mph - or surprisingly fast at well over 300 mph. The time in the air also is only half of the story. Time from arriving at the airport until you are airborne can often be shorter for your small airplane. Many people have a smaller airport nearby, where they can start their trip with a Sling but not an airliner. The same could be true for your destination... . If you look at the total time for a trip from your home to a destination flying a small plane in many regions can be close to or sometimes faster than flying commercial. Commercial has one big advantage though - they can fly in pretty bad weather. There are general aviation aircraft and private pilots that can do that as well, but not every aircraft and not every pilot can. The plane has to be equipped for it and the pilot needs further training and a bit of experience to do that.
@@resaca5367 that is such a comprehensive response. Either I’m good at asking questions or you really know your stuff. In a nut shell, you answered everything I wanted to know. Thank you so much. You’ve made the job easier. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
7:50 Just like the Gods Must Be Crazy, but not a Coke bottle :-) I cannot do this in the Varieze, with my prop in the back :-( Thank you for taking us flying in Africa, something I probably won't be able to do live; looks like an incredible adventure. Interesting you are running 5470 rpm with the 2.43:1 PSRU, where my Continental O-200 max is 2800. Flying is cool, especially with you guys.
The golden sunset approach and landing, and subsequent drive afterwards was absolutely stunning, so beautiful. I had to watch it three times. One of your top video captures on your channel.
your videos are absolutely fantastic they help me recall the 30 years that I was a private pilot flying in South Africa and a few years of flying in North Germany from Wilhelmshaven when I was visiting family with my wife.
Born in Kenya, guided safaris in TZ, flying with Norther Air, Air Excel ...., my parents lived in Malawi for a number of years, been to Vic Falls etc. You brought back so many memories, Thank You
Wauwie!!
The best Content as always! I can't wait for your Mozambican part of the adventure... So happy to see my little town where I grew up, SONGO (on the map - 5:55), sng just like the plane. wishing safe flights and the best weather.
I really love all your videos. Just started my private pilot license and love to follow your journeys. I really hope I can do similar stuff in the future. Fckn stoked about it. Greetings from Louis from Germany
being an ex-pat South African, pilot and mini youtuber, I am really enjoying going over all your videos of Africa. Many thanks and keep up the great work!!
What a lovely video! Sitting here in central Scandinavia with temperatures close to minus 30 degrees celsius and half a meter of snow, it is really warming my bones to see such images of southern Africa. Good luck and happy flying to the both of you!
I bambi and pal hope both of you are well. What a awesome vlog I really enjoyed it. the flight and the plane looks awesome. Brilliant scenery what a awesome place phil. Take care and good luck for the future can not wait for your next one philip.
I thoroughly enjoyed your video! Having lived in Malawi during my childhood, watching you flying into LLW and seeing it remarkably similar to how it was when I flew in/out of there brought back many fond memories. So glad you posted this.
Brings back great memories. Landed on Likoma Island a bizillion times when I was working in Malawi as a charter/bush pilot. Enjoy your time at Mangodrift!
Hello Bambi. I’ve seen this for the first time today. I see you posted 4 months ago. Looking at your footage I can also see that as you entered Malawi you flew right over our farm and airfield. We also happen to be residents on Likoma Island and we represent Sling in Malawi. If you ever pass through Malawi again you’re very welcome to stop by!
I thought I was done traveling until I bumped into your channel. You’ve sparked something in me again. There was once a time I wanted to 4x4 across the continent… now I’m researching getting a PPL. Thank you guys. I live your sling. I’ll be watching your build next.
So I haven’t watched your videos in a while but I like the new plane and Africa is the place to fly for sure my son went to that same airport Zimbabwe international on his way to Teen Missions and somewhere in Zimbabwe love the video keep making them keep flying you both are a great team
Wow I'm so overwhelmed right now! What a beautiful flight. You two are such amazing people. One day when I have my SPL, I'll start tranforming it to PPL, because I would love to experience a similar adventure like you two. You are my inspiration! Do what makes you happy and keep up the good work💪🏼
What a beautiful continent Africa is. I rent a vacation home from a man who lives in Oregon USA where I live. The plane in this video looks like the airplane he produces. The company is called Van's aircraft. Super cool video!! The over fly of Victoria Falls was beautiful. Love your unique videos. Thank you for sharing, and safe journeys. 😊👍👍
My daughter and her husband and two children spent 8 years in Lilongwe. Granddaughter graduated from high school there. Son in law, a doctor, was setting up and training staff for AIDS Clinics throughout the country. I was fortunate to fly to Malawi for my granddaughter's graduation and we also went on safari on Lake Malawi in a game preserve. I am also a pilot. I have a single and multiengine Instrument Commercial Pilot certificate and taught for several years at a local flying school.
These places reming me of my grand-father, he lived in Vila Cabral and went thousands of times to Malawi. Lake Malawi of transparent waters, one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Kudos, Pilot Bambi. Wonderful content on the tour across southern Africa. (Did you get to establish what the military fanfare was all about?) I can't wait to see your video flying into Kenya.
Y Bambi maybe you did request to fly down low but I heard the instruction from the tower to stricly fly at 6000 feet at all times (the way I got to to know you two, I think you just simply did this yourself) Ok with me because it makes for a nice video, but not ok for the other plane in the vacinity who has clearance to fly that low......should there be a mid-air collission.
