I'm no Lou apologist, but you are missing a key factor in :Lou's decision making process. He is the GM of the Islanders, a team that cannot attract top free agents and can only sign mid=level free agents and that's only if they overpay. In the case of Anders Lee, the only player the Islanders could have signed that had 30 goal potential when his contract was up was Anders Lee and they needed to overpay. Most of the other overpayments: same sort of story.
You are right that the Isles have never been able to attract elite free agents. The new arena was supposed to address that, but it hasn't really changed much. Obviously, the alternatives to that are draft and develop and trades. Lou has often mixed the worst of both words with that, trading for players and then overpaying for them before they reach free agency while trading away picks and prospects. That's one reason this team is where they are. Regardless, Andrew, you make a good point. The key question now is how do the Isles fix the cap and roster mess they're in. Lou is on record saying he doesn't believe in retooling or rebuilding. That means we will remain stuck in the muddy middle at best. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
I can’t complain I keep betting the Under and winning, I also bet the islanders to win in overtime lost that one, it’s getting redundant Gil, we’re In last place in the division and I hope we stay there and get a early pick in the Draft, same old story with this team, thanks Gil
It is the same old song, as they say. Hope ownership wakes up and moves on from Lou. Until they do, we're stuck in the muddy middle at best. Thanks for the comment, Raymond. LGI
Hi Gil! I must admit, I went to bed seething. You know I’ve wanted Laine for so long. Nah, we don’t need that laser shot he showed last night-of course not! He’s on our team--Power play is fixed and we win most of the Ot games we’ve lost. What’s done is done but frankly I’m sick to my stomach with wasting $$$ on crap contracts and average players. Man this guy can shove his TDL moves and ignorant free agency thoughts. I’m gonna say it nice and LOUD! Our owners are jackasses for modernizing everything but our Gm position. What a moron GM we have--ya give Engval 7 years, ya give Mayfield 7 years, ya gave Lee 7 years, Casey 6 years, jG and palms 5 years!! But ya can’t give Laine a chance and now he burned us right up the 🤬🤬 Great show as always Gil. This is act of treason to fans to shove this crap to us--Ps-still wanna give Dobson 9/10m? Bo? Bo? Can you hear me Bo? Críquets --Take care Gil!
Frankie I don't like those contacts either and Laine would have helped address the team's weaknesses for sure. I hope they move on from Lou soon. Thanks for the kind words and LGI. Always great to hear from you.
Fans should just not show up at all for 2 games at UBS arena Maybe with 0 people in attendance, The NY Islanders owners and GM Lou will maybe wake up then. The NY Islanders fans over seasons and season have paid thousands and thousands of dollars in tickets and merchandise and for what?? To watch embarrassing horror show losses?

No excuses with this one. This was a must win in my eyes. It's not consistant enough. Roy can not get these guys to play consistant hockey. Bowie Horvats disappearance is concerning. The longer he goes without a goal.
His scoring slump is concerning, no doubt. They need more from him than a 15-20 goal pace. He's getting chances but not finishing. Thanks fort he comment, ragehockey23. LGI
The team needs to change in some way for me to do that. Not seeing changes. I hope we see something different soon. Thanks for the comment, Gandaulf1961. LGI
The owner's negligence is the reason. They know absolutely nothing about hiring the right people to run a franchise. The only good thing they did was hire Trotz as the coach. They built a nice arena, but the product is mediocre. The Islanders will play better when Barzal, Duclair and Pelech come back, but frankly, it would be better if they missed the playoffs. Then, maybe, the owners will wake up.
The arena is nice, but parking? Take a shuttle bus to the arena? Ridiculous! They chose the wrong site if parking couldn’t be at the building. They should have tore down and rebuilt on the Coliseum site.
@@thomasrudy6132 If they renovated the NC, they would have to make a LIRR stop right at the doorstep of the arena. That would have cost tons of money. Plus they want to build a "affordable" housing and stores in that community. Not sure they could have done it at the old barn.
You know more about this than me, I am sure. Didn’t they have to do the same at UBS as far as the LIRR stop? How did NC function without an LIRR stop? I went to games there, we managed.
Yeah, ultimately, ownership has to realize that they need to move on from Lou. The failure to do that is so frustrating. I agree, missing the playoffs would be better for the franchise in the long run, but we'll see what happens and if Lou would be let go if they miss. Thanks for the comment, MrAschiff. LGI
Gm Gil. The team is where it belongs even if that last place is 2 victories out of 4th. Did you believe they were going to win last night? I did not. I am expecting a change at the top. Lou and/or Roy are not going to have jobs at the end of the season as this team fails to make the playoffs by a considerably amount. Roy will likely get his chance to coach a much better roster in Boston or Edmonton if he is let go. The Isles are at least 5 years from being competitive AFTER the tear down and rebuild is undertaken by Lou's successor.
Eric, something has to change. Yes, Roy would land on his feet and Lou will probably retire or be an advisor. I think a retool or rebuild could take less than 5 years if its done right. That means trading some vets and not re-signing others. Sorokin helps keep them from being terrible. Lou won't rebuild or retool and the longer they wait, the worse it will get. Thanks for the comment, Eric.
