My left earbud last for only 10-15 minutes and right one last upto 4 hrs... This is my last sony product and I will never ever look at any product from sony...
I’m with you, though mine is the right one that lasts at most 20 minutes. A few days after the update arrived, my warranty expired, which they were awesome before this update. So goodbye Sony!
Mine is the same exact way! I haven't used these in almost a year because of it and just used my airpods pro since. I wonder if they can be replaced because they were already faulty..?
Most of the xm4 units are facing battery issue by now, though most of them are replaced already but as sony is launching their new xm5 soon and most of the potential customers are those who already having issue with xm4,i doubt they gonna buy it again...sony should have come up with solution, they should do something for the huge number of customers who are( 1.fan of sound quality 2.high tier spenders 3.loyal sony fan).... currently people are completely freaking out.... I personally bought two of xm4s ,and I don't think I am gonna buy again...
Yeah I loved mine and my original pair got the drain issue. I waited for a good deal to buy a new pair without the issue. I mat not buy Sony in the future after the way they handled this.
@tristougang No, just found a good holiday special and picked up a second pair that came with the new software. FYI sony just put out a mp3 player, Nw 306 (?) and there are reports that the original batches have sound and software issues. They just pushed out a software fix because the player is android. I'm learning to wait before purchasing anything Sony.
@@MichaelCDavis1 I mean, there were lots of similar cases for the XM4, and most of the time Sony recovered the failed products and sent another one even when the warranty was expired so you could've tried your luck on this.
Sony should include another setting in the Sony Headphones Connect app that allows the earbuds to be charged to 80% max to greatly increase the total number of times the WF-1000XM4's batteries can be charged and to slow down battery degradation.
Mine always charge up to 100%, but what I have discovered is if you don't launch the app the Sony headphone app and you switch off all the excess bells and whistles the battery in both earbuds last much longer.
My batteries got all whacked out after upgrading from 1.5>2.0; initially seeing a difference of about 15% by the time one of the buds died. I gave my headphones a few cycle-throughs and am pleased to report that both IEM's are draining within 1-2% of each other. Perhaps the firmware pushed out an improvement which forced the BMS into recalibration mode.
my brand new ones after updating left is at 35% and right is at 10 ish... Are you saying this will even out? I am contemplating returning today. This is annoying
Mine are still screwed. I get 30 minutes top for either when "fully charged" and one bud is closer to 15 or 20 mins. Im gutted. I loved these buds until the battery screw up. Im still unsure what new ones to get. I half want to get the same sony ones because I loved them so much, but I cant take the chance of the same issue repeating.
I'll never buy Sony earbuds, have 1000xm3 and after update it reduced battery backup. Looks like Sony intentionally doing this. So my plan to buy whxm4 or 5 is dropped now because of this shitty updated. Will go for another company which is trustworthy (i was a huge Sony fan)
if that i sthe case, then we can outsmart sony. Keep firmware of new whxm5 to the oldest and never update :) First year should be safe..they not gonna mess with it within 1 year, after maybe they will create battery problems on purpose
Another new update firmware. My XM4 was down to about 1.5 hours of battery life. After installing the new firmware my XM4 went from showing 95% to 68-69%. I will charge it again and see if there are any changes to battery life. My XM4 was purchased summer 2021
I never had the battery issue. The latest software has not made battery life worse or better. I don't use multipoint and was on 1.4.2 before this update.
It's hardware issue, be sure to send it back before Warrantly expire. They will can't fix it without sending u new headphone. Just do it, it's your consumer right afterall.
I’m so annoyed - I bought a brand new pair as soon as they came out, and then after the 1.4 firmware update the earbuds started overheating when charging, and the battery lasts no more than 15 minutes. I contacted Sony Singapore, but they said they wouldn’t cover it as it was out of warranty. It was Sony’s fault the ear buds broke with their failed software update (which appears to have affected thousands of units), but they simply washed their hands of it.
My XM4's did not have the battery drain prob on 1.4.2. both earbuds lasted roughly 7-8 hrs fairly evenly. Now with 2.0 the right side drains considerably faster. The left side would still have 68-70% power when the right side dies. What a mess. So disappointed with Sony.
I am experiencing the exact same problem on 2 seperate sets of WF-1000XM4s. Both sets of my WF-1000XM4s were working perfectly on firmware 1.4.2. I updated both of them to the latest firmware version 2.0.0 and immediately afterwards the battery in the right earbud on both units will go from 100% to 0% in 1 hour and 30 minutes. I am out of warranty on both units, but Sony said they will replace them for free as long as my WF-1000XM4s do not show any signs of physical damage. I live in the UK and purchased both my WF-1000XM4s from Amazon.
It did not change anything for me, the right earbud stops after 10 minutes. Spent hours with Sony on the phone, factory reset many times, charged completely many times, NO CHANGES ! Glad that Sony finally asked me to send it back for a full exchange with a new one. Its a slow process (About 2 weeks), but at least they will do it free of charges.

Same. Gutted I WAS loving these buds then one day rook my bud from charger and they were hot and all went downhill from there. Im lucky to get 30 mins and thats without noise cancelling. I really loved them but I cant take a chance buying another Sony pair.
Currently in the 2.0.0 firmware, with LDAC and DSEE active all the time. I swap from Ambient Aware to NC. Battery is doing fine. I think this could be because it's a newer XM4; bought in late June 2023
Not sure if it's the result of the latest 2.0.1 update, but recently I'm having my left bud die in less than 1 hour. Had enough of these wireless gadgets.
I gave up on my XM4 earbuds already. Now using version 2.0 and the battery still drains very fast, it lasts around 20 min only. Looks like I will need to go to one of the Sony Center and get the battery replaced.
Worst customer service, After 1.4.2 update my battery only last 25-30min on noise cancelling. When I asked sony they said they would be releasing new update which would fix this issue and updating to 2.0.0 there isn't any difference. I don't have the receipt unfortunately and now they are refusing to take it. I showed them proof of my purchased price and the store I bought from. It's sad that lot of customer are facing issues that they did and we can't even get replacement for their mistake. Lost trust in Sony
Yess you are right old unit does have issues with battery. I got my xm4 on May 2022 (firmware - 1.4.2) after 8 months of use (357 hours) my left earbuds starts draining from 100% to 20% in just 2.5 hours of use. On Feb sony replaced batteries on both the earbuds now I have zero issues regarding batteries. Currently using firmware 2.0.0.
I was really looking forward to the Xm5's, but my Xm4 battery only lasts 40 minutes in the left earbud. I'm 2 months out of warranty and Sony have been no help. I loved my Xm4's, but I just had to make the switch to sennheiser M3's. I just can't trust sony anymore after this.
I think since the update to multipoint, my left earbud doesn't charge to 100% anymore and lost battery capacity really really fast. So my right earbud has about 80% and the left one ist completely empty... I think sony does it, because the want us to buy the new xm5. It makes me really sad, because the sound is absolutely crazy but the software destroyed the earbuds. Also the software/ the app is overloaded. There are so many options i will never use. Just make it clean and simple.
It’s also possible that some people accidentally downloaded the squirmware instead of the firmware. My friend’s cousin may have done this and he hasn’t been the same since. 🤠
My XM4s are older than most, I think. I've had them for >18 months. It's so ridiculous that firmware can do this. Why they can't give us the option to roll back is beyond me. I don't need multi-point or any of the other features. I've never had issues with connectivity. I don't need any of the adaptive this and that, sound quality, codec issues, the stuff they always seem to be "fixing". What I need is for the right earbud to last longer than 30 minutes. That's it. I don't even need it to last 7 hours. If I can get 90 minutes out of it, I'd never notice the difference. IF I ever buy another Sony product that uses a battery, I'm never updating firmware. I'm not installing their app. Just going to use out of the box and call it good. Given the age of my earbuds, I'm guessing Sony will shrug and tell me they're just "old".
Horrible, I just sent mine back, Sony tried fighting me a bit b/c it was close to a year that I purchased it and no longer had the receipt. I wear my buds to the gym, to run and even at work. Had no issue with them lasting for a whole day without charging, then as soon as the update happened my left side can only last about 15 minutes and never charged above 90% whereas my right side never went below 80% for a full hour plus. I honestly thought it was something I did but how can this be possible? I never wore them independently & i always had them out and in at the same time, how could my left side have degraded so much in less than a year...until I found out that this was an ongoing issue with the new update. Saved me money having to blame myself and getting the battery replaced at Best Buy.
The new update changed the buds to a right bud master left bud slave. No single left bud use anymore. Explains the extra battery drain. Please don't "upgrade" if you use single buds
Version 2.0 and 2.0.1 broke my headphones completely. Earbuds last 25-30 minutes, doesn't matter what happens. Did everything I could. Then sony customer support is so garbage they won't own up to it. They admit its an issue then proceed to NOT do anything. Everything turned off, all the features off, nothing works. Went and bought pixel buds pro, F sony. My unit is only 8 months old and I use it maybe for one or two hours a week.
My XM4 was still working perfectly fine after like two years of using them. Late to the party I updated the firmware in march 2024 and now the left earbud drains the battery in 15 minutes! And there´s no fix for it? This is so stupid. Sony made my earbuds useless with a firmware update!
i connect to my laptop and iPhone while watching movie on my laptop the connection stays stable on both the device and did not pause my video or did not disconnect but right side battery drain fast
Alright, putting out my story out there in case someone can make sense of it. Since recently, I hadn't seen any battery problem - iirc, until a few weeks after a software update. I was surprised one day, I plopped in my right earphone and it felt hot - pulled it back, set it back in the case, and got it out 5 min later with a thermal camera. A hotspot below the charging pads was at 45-50°. This heating only happened once, but since then my right earbud only lasts about 20-30 minutes, and the left one maybe twice as long... Idk if Sony could have messed something up with the battery charging in their firmware update, I ordered replacement batteries and will attempt self repair, hoping that'll fix the problem. (Disclaimer : could also be natural battery degradation which caused this heating problem in the first place, since I often use a single earphone while cycling and it's always the right one given It's my left ear facing traffic - so my right earbud definitely saw the most use and rapid temperature changes...)
Same problem here and I had the same problem with the wf1000xm3. So the problem is Sony. Both in less 1 year. In my case, I will not buy or recommend Sony headphones again.
@@yonatanklein yes replacement makes it last several hours but be aware of heating up bud to remove battery it will melt so do not put alot of heat and after replacing make sure apply glue properly you dont wanted to ended up half air bud hanging out while jogging
Think about it. You create ear buds you sell, and next year you release new ones. You really need to update the old ones??? Because they can get 'better' ? What's better, it's same speaker with magnet, it has same bluetooth and trasport protocol, it has same amp. Yes, you can program DSP, but hell, if you made it good already don't touch my earbuds, i dont want no updates if something is working, if i want upgrade il buy new one. Now days, even earbuds get updated to make them obsolete. Idk why people take this Update BS, buy working product that you like, and don't update!
I got them to replace my first pair of buds for free and now about a year later im having the same battery drain issues. My right bud wont charge to 100% even if my case has more than enough power to charge it to full. Only way to get it to charge to 100% is to charge my case with the buds in them. Idk I love my Sony products but I might have to jump off the bandwagon.
what are garbage of a product from sony, i only use it like once for couple hours while i cut the grass in my yard. The left sides battery hit 0% while the right side is still above 85%... Wish i never update the firmware and its pass the 12 months warranty period.
mine is the left earbud drains so much faster than right one after a year of using, im very disappoint to Sony's product quality and might not support any Sony earbud in the future
Never buying sony again, they accessories for phones suck just like how their phones do. I got it over amazon on 2021, no warranty now, no nothing. Got to use it like that or throw it.
If multipoint connection is not your main concern, I suggest against updating. Before updating to 2.0.0, my unit's battery can easily last 12 hours, sometimes even 13. Now, after updating to 2.0.0, it can hardly manage 8 hours. Both buds' battery drain at about the same rate. For context, I tested it with the following settings (which I use almost all the time), both before and after updating the firmware: - Multipoint: Off - DSEE Extreme: Off - ANC: Off - Adaptive sound control: Off - Priority on: Stable connection - Codec: SBC - Volume level: 20% In short: Turn everything off. To summarize, firmware 2.0.0 will f*ck up your battery badly. Of course, your mileage may vary.
@@Spadenace If your battery is completely drained within an hour, it sounds more like the previous battery draining problem. In my case, it was pretty severe. The right earbud would continuously heat up until the case and earbud's battery is completely drained, which could pose a fire hazard. I "fixed" it by letting them replace both earbuds. I suggest you take it to a Sony service center to have a check.
Mine has the same problem. I noticed that after the firmware update, the right side just lasted about 40 minutes and the left side is about 75%. Before the update, there were no problems to use for hours.
I could use my XM4 for couple hours without any issues, but after the recent update (i've never used the app until last month) and the battery is now shite.. It drains at times within an hour, and at best just over an hour. It's ridiculous
I got mine 26 months ago so warranty is over by two months and my left bud suddenly started going empty in 30-45 minutes. Sony germany is refusing to do anything about it.

I have noticed a significant drop in battery life recently, especially with the right earbud. The only change I made besides installing the latest software update is that I turned on google assistant. I heard this effects the right earbud especially. ** I see someone mentioned something about the charging case getting quite hot as well, the same thing happened to me recently.** Any thoughts from anyone else out there

I bought it because of the confidence in the brand and the great reviews about the product, but today I see Sony's neglect and I decided never to buy anything from the brand again. Battery last from 100% down to zero in just 73 mins on both pairs I got for my wife and myself. Work well until the app keep nagging to update. I did for both units and now both pair last just one hour.... Oh come on Sony. This is such a major failed
Here is my experience using the 2.0.0. First my headset is almost brand new, I got a replacement due to battery issue on the right earbud. I got them 2 months ago with 1.6.1 version and they did work well with around 6h using ldac+anc. I updated to 2.0.0 and it seems that battery last less since the update but now I have another issue : right earbud stucks at 100% while the left earbud seems to report the good battery level... At the end, the right earbud turns itself without warning and I still have about 25% left on the other side. For me, it's still a mess.

Dude i had a Hyper X Cloud headset which i sold recently with a battery who lasted 8h straight at least. And i use it every day for the past 4 years. This sony headphones battery is kind of a joke mine only lasted 45 min on left and 3 h on the right :D just not worth the money.
I just starting to have the same problem the battery from my right earphones dies really quickly up to 1 hour and that's all, it is such a shame cuz now I cannot wear them for long distance running, the battery used to last long in the past up to 5 hours or more.
Change the batteries in em it’s really easy it took me 30 minutes to get the whole thing done from materials I ordered from the getting place. And now I’ve been using them like when they where new.
After two updates on my wf1000xm4 it began draining issue specially the left bud why sony did this what a disappointment i love this buds sound quality is the best and features.

if that's the case I suggest another one which only allow slow charging since fast charging also make the batteries degrade faster.

Currently in the 2.0.0 firmware, with LDAC and DSEE active all the time. I swap from Ambient Aware to NC. Battery is doing fine. I think this could be because it's a newer XM4; bought in late June 2023

I gave up on my XM4 earbuds already. Now using version 2.0 and the battery still drains very fast, it lasts around 20 min only. Looks like I will need to go to one of the Sony Center and get the battery replaced.

I am not using multipoint, i updated from 1.4.2 with no issues to 2.0.0 and battery is lasting a lot less.
Worst customer service, After 1.4.2 update my battery only last 25-30min on noise cancelling. When I asked sony they said they would be releasing new update which would fix this issue and updating to 2.0.0 there isn't any difference.
I don't have the receipt unfortunately and now they are refusing to take it. I showed them proof of my purchased price and the store I bought from.
It's sad that lot of customer are facing issues that they did and we can't even get replacement for their mistake. Lost trust in Sony

Yess you are right old unit does have issues with battery. I got my xm4 on May 2022 (firmware - 1.4.2) after 8 months of use (357 hours) my left earbuds starts draining from 100% to 20% in just 2.5 hours of use. On Feb sony replaced batteries on both the earbuds now I have zero issues regarding batteries. Currently using firmware 2.0.0.
as now, any battery or other issue you got from 2.0.0 ?

I was really looking forward to the Xm5's, but my Xm4 battery only lasts 40 minutes in the left earbud. I'm 2 months out of warranty and Sony have been no help. I loved my Xm4's, but I just had to make the switch to sennheiser M3's. I just can't trust sony anymore after this.

I think since the update to multipoint, my left earbud doesn't charge to 100% anymore and lost battery capacity really really fast. So my right earbud has about 80% and the left one ist completely empty...
I think sony does it, because the want us to buy the new xm5.
It makes me really sad, because the sound is absolutely crazy but the software destroyed the earbuds. Also the software/ the app is overloaded. There are so many options i will never use. Just make it clean and simple.

It’s also possible that some people accidentally downloaded the squirmware instead of the firmware. My friend’s cousin may have done this and he hasn’t been the same since. 🤠

My XM4s are older than most, I think. I've had them for >18 months. It's so ridiculous that firmware can do this. Why they can't give us the option to roll back is beyond me. I don't need multi-point or any of the other features. I've never had issues with connectivity. I don't need any of the adaptive this and that, sound quality, codec issues, the stuff they always seem to be "fixing". What I need is for the right earbud to last longer than 30 minutes. That's it. I don't even need it to last 7 hours. If I can get 90 minutes out of it, I'd never notice the difference. IF I ever buy another Sony product that uses a battery, I'm never updating firmware. I'm not installing their app. Just going to use out of the box and call it good. Given the age of my earbuds, I'm guessing Sony will shrug and tell me they're just "old".

Horrible, I just sent mine back, Sony tried fighting me a bit b/c it was close to a year that I purchased it and no longer had the receipt. I wear my buds to the gym, to run and even at work. Had no issue with them lasting for a whole day without charging, then as soon as the update happened my left side can only last about 15 minutes and never charged above 90% whereas my right side never went below 80% for a full hour plus. I honestly thought it was something I did but how can this be possible? I never wore them independently & i always had them out and in at the same time, how could my left side have degraded so much in less than a year...until I found out that this was an ongoing issue with the new update. Saved me money having to blame myself and getting the battery replaced at Best Buy.
I have the same issue. After the upgrade, the batter lasted just for half an hour
The new update changed the buds to a right bud master left bud slave. No single left bud use anymore. Explains the extra battery drain. Please don't "upgrade" if you use single buds
So how do you get them replaced?
Version 2.0 and 2.0.1 broke my headphones completely. Earbuds last 25-30 minutes, doesn't matter what happens. Did everything I could.
Then sony customer support is so garbage they won't own up to it. They admit its an issue then proceed to NOT do anything.
Everything turned off, all the features off, nothing works. Went and bought pixel buds pro, F sony. My unit is only 8 months old and I use it maybe for one or two hours a week.
My XM4 was still working perfectly fine after like two years of using them. Late to the party I updated the firmware in march 2024 and now the left earbud drains the battery in 15 minutes! And there´s no fix for it? This is so stupid. Sony made my earbuds useless with a firmware update!
i connect to my laptop and iPhone while watching movie on my laptop the connection stays stable on both the device and did not pause my video or did not disconnect but right side battery drain fast
Alright, putting out my story out there in case someone can make sense of it. Since recently, I hadn't seen any battery problem - iirc, until a few weeks after a software update. I was surprised one day, I plopped in my right earphone and it felt hot - pulled it back, set it back in the case, and got it out 5 min later with a thermal camera. A hotspot below the charging pads was at 45-50°. This heating only happened once, but since then my right earbud only lasts about 20-30 minutes, and the left one maybe twice as long... Idk if Sony could have messed something up with the battery charging in their firmware update, I ordered replacement batteries and will attempt self repair, hoping that'll fix the problem. (Disclaimer : could also be natural battery degradation which caused this heating problem in the first place, since I often use a single earphone while cycling and it's always the right one given It's my left ear facing traffic - so my right earbud definitely saw the most use and rapid temperature changes...)

Same problem here and I had the same problem with the wf1000xm3. So the problem is Sony. Both in less 1 year. In my case, I will not buy or recommend Sony headphones again.
@@yonatanklein yes replacement makes it last several hours but be aware of heating up bud to remove battery it will melt so do not put alot of heat and after replacing make sure apply glue properly you dont wanted to ended up half air bud hanging out while jogging
Think about it. You create ear buds you sell, and next year you release new ones. You really need to update the old ones??? Because they can get 'better' ? What's better, it's same speaker with magnet, it has same bluetooth and trasport protocol, it has same amp. Yes, you can program DSP, but hell, if you made it good already don't touch my earbuds, i dont want no updates if something is working, if i want upgrade il buy new one. Now days, even earbuds get updated to make them obsolete. Idk why people take this Update BS, buy working product that you like, and don't update!
I got them to replace my first pair of buds for free and now about a year later im having the same battery drain issues. My right bud wont charge to 100% even if my case has more than enough power to charge it to full. Only way to get it to charge to 100% is to charge my case with the buds in them. Idk I love my Sony products but I might have to jump off the bandwagon.
what are garbage of a product from sony, i only use it like once for couple hours while i cut the grass in my yard. The left sides battery hit 0% while the right side is still above 85%... Wish i never update the firmware and its pass the 12 months warranty period.
mine is the left earbud drains so much faster than right one after a year of using, im very disappoint to Sony's product quality and might not support any Sony earbud in the future
Never buying sony again, they accessories for phones suck just like how their phones do. I got it over amazon on 2021, no warranty now, no nothing. Got to use it like that or throw it.
If multipoint connection is not your main concern, I suggest against updating.
Before updating to 2.0.0, my unit's battery can easily last 12 hours, sometimes even 13.
Now, after updating to 2.0.0, it can hardly manage 8 hours.
Both buds' battery drain at about the same rate.
For context, I tested it with the following settings (which I use almost all the time), both before and after updating the firmware:
- Multipoint: Off
- DSEE Extreme: Off
- ANC: Off
- Adaptive sound control: Off
- Priority on: Stable connection
- Codec: SBC
- Volume level: 20%
In short: Turn everything off.
To summarize, firmware 2.0.0 will f*ck up your battery badly.
Of course, your mileage may vary.

@@Spadenace If your battery is completely drained within an hour, it sounds more like the previous battery draining problem.
In my case, it was pretty severe. The right earbud would continuously heat up until the case and earbud's battery is completely drained, which could pose a fire hazard. I "fixed" it by letting them replace both earbuds.
I suggest you take it to a Sony service center to have a check.
Mine has the same problem. I noticed that after the firmware update, the right side just lasted about 40 minutes and the left side is about 75%. Before the update, there were no problems to use for hours.

Since the firmware update, I get less than an hour on the left and 3-4 hours on the right earbuds. Before the update, I got 3+ hours on both earbuds.
I could use my XM4 for couple hours without any issues, but after the recent update (i've never used the app until last month) and the battery is now shite.. It drains at times within an hour, and at best just over an hour. It's ridiculous
My right side just went from 100% to off in just 16mins..
I got mine 26 months ago so warranty is over by two months and my left bud suddenly started going empty in 30-45 minutes. Sony germany is refusing to do anything about it.
No. Because my battery was 💯 up until I downloaded the software update. Now my right earbud lasts just over an hour at most with volume at half.

I have noticed a significant drop in battery life recently, especially with the right earbud. The only change I made besides installing the latest software update is that I turned on google assistant. I heard this effects the right earbud especially. ** I see someone mentioned something about the charging case getting quite hot as well, the same thing happened to me recently.**

I bought it because of the confidence in the brand and the great reviews about the product, but today I see Sony's neglect and I decided never to buy anything from the brand again. Here is my experience using the 2.0.0. First my headset is almost brand new, I got a replacement due to battery issue on the right earbud. I got them 2 months ago with 1.6.1 version and they did work well with around 6h using ldac+anc. I updated to 2.0.0 and it seems that battery last less since the update but now I have another issue : right earbud stucks at 100% while the left earbud seems to report the good battery level... At the end, the right earbud turns itself without warning and I still have about 25% left on the other side. For me, it's still a mess.

i have battery drain on both buds. my right bud 97 percent. played music for about 15min to 83 percent.
Dude i had a Hyper X Cloud headset which i sold recently with a battery who lasted 8h straight at least. And i use it every day for the past 4 years. This sony headphones battery is kind of a joke mine only lasted 45 min on left and 3 h on the right :D just not worth the money.

I just starting to have the same problem the battery from my right earphones dies really quickly up to 1 hour and that's all, it is such a shame cuz now I cannot wear them for long distance running, the battery used to last long in the past up to 5 hours or more.
Change the batteries in em it’s really easy it took me 30 minutes to get the whole thing done from materials I ordered from the getting place. And now I’ve been using them like when they where new.
After two updates on my wf1000xm4 it began draining issue specially the left bud why sony did this what a disappointment i love this buds sound quality is the best and features.
After 2.0 update. My XM4 is good when connected to phone. but when connected to my PC it only last 1hr plus.
