It is Super Bowl Sunday and I am watching your video rather than the game! I have a 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD off road that I got in Nov. 2019. Our kids have all graduated high school and I am looking to have some similar adventures in the future, but for now living vicariously through folks like you, Clay & Co. and many others on You Tube. It’s about the journey, not the destination, so continue to enjoy the ride!!
Great video Carol and Peter. Hope you both can enjoy this second honeymoon. It's a huge change for you guys. Looking forward to video of what the kids are learning.
Being a father of two I was emotional and ready to tear up myself when the kids got dropped off but I know our job is to grow them into great adults and see them make families of there own . The alone time I'm sure was needed but short lived as well , you've managed to produce a great video again and an amazing family !!! Thanks for sharing...
When your "kids" were walking towards the terminal, it felt as though it were my three walking away. My three, daughter and twin sons, flew from California to Virginia to surprise me for my 60th birthday (13 years ago). I was so proud of them. Anyway, as I watched yours walk away I started to tear up with you. They will become seasoned veterans. Your camera skills will improve dramatically as you go along. My one recommendation is for you to acquire remote mics as your soft voices get drowned out by the ambient noise. Our prayers go out to you and the kids for safety in your journeys.
I shed a few tears for you all saying goodbye to your kids. You have set them up to be super successful at whatever they do in life so you should be very very proud of them. ❤️❤️
Great video ! It’s cool to see Your perspectives via your videos, with your kids away. And great to see more of Carol and her obvious Joy of Life ! 🙏🌲🇨🇦
You live the life I can only dream about! I love your videos, and I'm very thankful that you choose to share your wonderful family and adventures with us all. This is now my new happy place to go to :)
I too, kinda teared up as a mother especially when your children are ready to fly..that's what we prepare them for, but its awfully emotional when that time comes🥲
You all were cracking the wife and I up. We are are on the way to being empty nesters ourselves with two of our kids in adulthood now and our youngest not far behind. Reliving that transition of them being young and not much help, to growing older and being lots of help, to becoming adults and transitioning back to it just being two of us doing it all again. Anyway good to see you all enjoying each other That is how we are too. We love hanging out with just “us”.
I was sad to see the kinds fly the east(I say kids like they’re so young, but I’m the same age as them). It’s just been so amazing to watch your family overland together for so long, but this new beginning is also exciting. I love watching your family and look forward to seeing new videos!
Our kids have fled, come back, gone again, and now they come back with grandkids, that also love camping, we are Van Life fan, they camp in tents, as for hiking, we love it in our 60’s hubby has done the Cradle Mountain Track walk in Tasmania (their tracks are built with Timber covered in Chicken Wire, so you don’t slip), Parts of Bibbulmun Track through karri forest near Pemberton, Western Australia., and we do not use walking sticks we USE Hiking Poles, due to knee injury, and boy are they great at our age. We are so blessed and grateful to be able to watch your family grow, and we thank you!
It's not really about the quality of the image you are filming. But me because of what you go through with or without the children. Really enjoy every time a part comes online. Greeting Rene from the Netherland
When I get able to Overland again it would be so nice to share it with my Wife. She does not like Overlanding. Your whole family is so blessed with the passions for travel and adventure. Don't worry about video quality, just spend quality time with each other. Heck turn the cameras off for a couple weeks and enjoy some peace. We all need a rest occasionally. I learnt that the hard way.
The Kids will be proud, you did a great job of setting up the shots and capturing the adventure. Can't wait for the next video and updates on the Kids. Stay safe!
Love your vids. My wife and I just purchased a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited. Slowly but surely, we are getting it overland ready. Thanks for awesome videos. Truly inspiring and reminds us all that Mother Nature is quite hospitable.
Great video Mom & Dad! What was evident and wonderful is how much you had grown to respect the opinions and support of your children. On your own it's a new decision paradigm. Looking forward to your next adventure/video!
Keep with it! Stay positive! We will keep watching the adventures! Transitioning to a trailer in the future? Stoked for your kids! What a great opportunity!
Love this episode. It was nice to see you two working together to relearn your new strategies. Not that I didn’t enjoy your prior videos but it was refreshing to a little less “routine” and a little more learning. You guys continue to produce a great experience. Keep it up and stay safe!
Standing in front of that huge stump reminds me of the huge redwood stumps here in North Calif. Looks like a place I would like to go. Take care and be safe out there.
for 10 years i travelled in an old Indian Army jeep, a rucksack with at least 40 holes all around for all clothing needs, an old Army Kerosine cook top, not more than 3 or 4 (all inclusive) utensils, a cotton bag for veggies, An old jeep tyre tube sealed on either side for water storage. A tarpaulin sheet as tent and doubles as roof if the jeep drips during rain. Life was simple. After i got married i had to move to a 2 door 4 seater SUV and after a kid I now have a full size uber expensive SUV with all modern comforts and half of second row and the whole 3 row fully occupying 1/3rd of what is in my house... life started from a 1 and a quarter tonner to a nearly 4 tonner now... your short term lean mode reminded me of my past solo life.
Think of this as a learning experience for all of you... Everyone in your family contributed they’re own little piece of the pie and perhaps this will be the eye opener for everyone as to just how much everyone did contribute... You’ll all be fine.
I so appreciate your dedication to sharing your epic adventures. It’s strange to not see your whole family. This will be a neat season for you too to grow together. I’m excited for your journey. God be with you all.
Always look forward to your weekly videos; your kiddos are going to have so much fun and learn so much from Clay and Rachelle! Also, second the idea of getting some step / rocker guards; make accessing the roof area much easier as well as just getting in and out of the jeep ( not to mention good side body protection ). Cheers, you and Carol got this!!
The West Coast trail is approx 76 kms per Parks Canada and runs between Gordon River trailhead (Port Renfrew) and (Pachena Bay) Bamfield. Usually done over 7 days and 6 nites. Actual distance about 85 kms after a lot of ladders and beach trekking. This backpacking trip is truly EPIC. Love your site. Family is everything!,
Absolutely Epic guys. Thanks for all you do. Not only to keep us -the viewers- entertained, but inspired as well. And short handed by 3 at that! Great stuff.
When you travel as a family, you are used to do everything together, now you are with te both of you, but I am 100% sure you will manage to do all the things together.... keep up the amazing adventure. 👍💪✌️👌🇳🇱❤️🇨🇦greetings from the Netherlands
The silence and presence is worst, but being one in another is also life, you two can be proud being parents of your kids, that they want to be with you tonight is a fact. I do follow Expedition Overland as well on YT. Great content.
It’s a tough transition when the kids go off, but it’s great time to get to know each other again. You also appreciate it more when the kids come back for a time.
Back in the 70's I had an Irish Setter and I would let him run ahead of me on trail. Friends would tell me I was mean to make him run that way. They just didn't understand that he loved it. I am so glad to see someone else doing this. Thanks for the video.
Yes. The meanest thing we could ever do to Lando would be to leave him in the Jeep. He lives to run. Your dog sounds just like him. The minute he hears the jeep start he is raring to go. 😄
You guys did great on your own. It seemed a bit scary arriving so late for your first night of camping. I cant wait to see the big trees you find. I love this theme.
No slight to the kids, but after I dried my eyes following your goodbyes at the ferry, I really loved this episode. Super rugged terrain, lots of rain, and mom and dad on their own. Great stuff! Keep it coming.
Still quality video. Like many have voiced, we’re here for the adventure and because you are genuinely nice and good folk. Thanks for bringing us along.
Great Video - kept it real - looking forward to seeing the changes you make as you travel without the kids. We are inspired as my wife and I took our first trip to Nemo Tunnel (old abandoned railroad tunnel) in Wartburg, TN (hour outside of Knoxville, TN). It was EPIC. Thanks for all you are doing and making a difference - CARE!
Loved that drone shot of the mist hanging over the trees in that valley . Seeing your map reminded me of are sea kayaking trip up there . That hole area of Canada 🇨🇦 is so full of beautiful scenery you could spend a lifetime exploring the beautiful areas up there . Cheers and thanks for taking us along . Seems strange not to see the kids , but sounds like they are having a great time . Thanks again from Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A.
Great first video (well sort of). I really enjoyed watching you relearn to camp on your own. I bet the kids are getting a good chuckle out of this video. Travel safe.
I use my InReach Garmin too. I never leave home without it. I also use the app. Pretty cool. When InReach first came out there was no app. Makes typing easier now. This is a lovely experience. Funny at times. Love the vid. Thanks for sharing. 😉
I'm so excited for all of you. What a blessing to have this new experience. By the way, while I love the quality of your content, I love your family story so much now that it doesn't make a difference. I'm hooked! You both...and Lando did great! Any new learning skills and mishaps you have to figure out is a testament to your teamwork and how everyone knew their role and just jumped in. Have fun on your journey and can't wait to hear from the kids.
Great video guys. I was sad the kids were leaving but excited for their new adventure and now yours as well. Safe travels for all of you. By the way, Lando is the cutest. Love watching you explore my home province.
Peter and Carol, have you thought about having a hard shell or clam shell RTT installed; one that you can access from within the Jeep's interior? As I watched Carol climb the Jeep exterior to initiate the deployment process I prayed she wouldn't incur a misstep and injure herself. I don't know if you watch Venture4WD with Chris Shontz but his RTT is accessible from within his Jeep, "Orangie." Anyway, what an awesome adventure. That logging truck brought back some amazing memories. I enjoyed my one year tour on an Oregon mountaintop in 1969. From our house on the hill we had access to tons of incredible trails including logging roads that led to lakes and remote streams and trout begged for our lures. Bear and deer used to walk in our yards.
I was thinking, you need a crossbar step type thing on the front of your Cage, at the front window ... then Carol said it. Everything is a new learning curve again.
Спасибо за ваши видео, у вас очень дружная и хорошая семья. В России сейчас зима, мороз минус 30, и так приятно, укрывшись теплым пледом, смотреть ваши путешествия. Спасибо.
You'll need to get a 12 volt crock pot or roaster oven, put something on around lunch time and you will have something to eat for supper. It will save big time on gas. Truck driver use them all the time.
There are big trees at Carmanah, and there were big trees at Clayquot too. There are some more accessible trees between Port Renfrew and Sooke on the Jaun De Fuca marine trail, Lonely Doug and Avatar forest. All of which will be in BRMB. The Cowichan area is my sons area with Mosaic Forest, so some giant tree areas are not known. If you're ever over on the east coast of the island again I can show you the largest arbutus, trees on private lands are listed on BC Tree Registry and have numbered tags.
Your kids are amazing! We are having a great time and it’s awesome to see what you two are getting up to out there!
It has never been about “video quality “ it has always been about “the journey.” Empty nesting 101.
Thank you. Glad to have you along for the journey. Hope you have an great Sunday!
My 10 year old son just said. "This one's sad!"
We spend Sunday mornings with your family every week. Love your videos and adventures.
As a Mother I cried when the young ones were leaving.....but you give them roots and wings and they'll be back of course!!
Yes, it’s always hard to see them walk away but exciting at the same time. Hope you have a blessed Sunday.

A tip for carol climbing, start by standing on front door sill, step to rear peg shut front door of needed for front peg.

Awesome video you two enjoy your time together, feeds well and those kids will be back with a lot of new knowledge after the internship...
The content does not disappoint! The sound is quite low in volume which is surprising if there is an advert :)
Thank you. Also thanks for the tip on the volume will try and correct the next time. Have a wonderful day.

Watching this, I immediately thought of George Harrison's song All Things Must Pass. It's a sad yet inspiring sentiment all at the same time.
❤️
It’s a tough transition when the kids go off, but it’s great time to get to know each other again. You also appreciate it more when the kids come back for a time.
Good to know the fun doesn't end when the kids begin independent adventures!

It’s hard to remember you’re on an island, sometimes. Such a beautiful forest, you seem to be further inland.
I sure do admire your family and how close you all are I think it's wonderful what you're doing may God bless you on your journey

Great work on the edit and videography on your own. Looking for a time in my schedule to get away and come up island again.

There are big trees at Carmanah, and there were big trees at Clayquot too. There are some more accessible trees between Port Renfrew and Sooke on the Jaun De Fuca marine trail, Lonely Doug and Avatar forest. All of which will be in BRMB.
