We LOVE all your videos, but Peter singing How Great Thou Art around the campfire might be our favourite. Very moving. Blessings to you and your family. P.S. You’ve inspired us to try over landing so hopefully “we’ll see you down the road”!
LOTS OF THANK YOU BACK to you Carol and Pete! I don’t post a lot BUT I’ve been watching ALL your videos since August last year. We’re 56 and 59 year olds and parents to 4 boys who are now moved out. The last 3 videos brought tears!!! Your “kids” will always be your “babies” no matter how old they get. It’s a lot of work to put out such amazing videos (especially now you’re doing the work 😊) for us viewers! I am grateful ♥️. Take good care and enjoy face time/phone calls with the kids each time. Hugs to your family and of course, to my beloved Lando 😘...can’t wait for the next video!!
Great narration through the first hike Carol. Your smile all of the way through tells us just how enjoyable it was. Oh yeah! Nothing better than the smell of cedar. I could smell it through my tablet.
Yes, I carry walking sticks. You never know what surface they'll be handy for and they don't weigh much. We bought some that convert to cross country ski poles for snow, or sharp points for other surfaces and rubber tips like canes.
I love your videos. It's very rare to watch genuine people. I can tell your family are good people and not just putting on an act for the camera. No big ego's. Just decent and nice people. Good luck
I have been watching EFRT for about a year now, these last 2 videos are by far my favorite. It's nice to see more of Carol also. Watching u 2 navigate your adventures together is inspirational u are so lucky and fortunate to have each other. Carols cooking gets 5 stars. When u stripe it all down to what life is all about, I just don't think it gets any better then u have it now. Your kids are remarkable but as one of your older subscribers I very much enjoy the perspective that the 2 of u bring the channel. Thanks for hanging out in BC I am so grateful the I live here in paradise.
VERY MUCH ENJOYING these episodes. It is so very much needed for parents to spend time alone together, just being a couple, lovers and best friends. Devoting to each other rather than being the purveyors of our childrens endless wants and needs. You both seem too be glowing the last few episodes. I hope that you got in somewhere to wait out on the cold weather last week, i've done -20C in a tent for a week out winter snow wheeling, couldn't wait to sleep in a nice warm house after that. Fun experiance to do once in a while, but prefer my motorhome to a tent now. Stay safe and CHEERS Steve h.
Great video! We really loved Carol's tribute - it was very heartfelt. We removed the baskets from our snow ski poles - works fine. Looking forward to seeing what the kids are up to.
HOPE YOU BOTH HAD AN AWESOME VALENTINES DAY 💝 ! GORGEOUS SCENERY COLORS BEAUTY VIEWS LANDSCAPE FOOTAGE & AMAZING TREES ! BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! GOD BLESS YOU ALL ALWAYS ON YOUR JOURNEYS ! ENJOYED !
Whenever you are using the cast iron there are two rules: 1 - no detergent or soap, just clean with hot water and elbow grease and 2 - Dry them over the fire but do not over heat them until the water evaporates and then apply a fine coat of oil with a paper towel, keeping them oiled will prevent rust. Have fun, love the videos.....!
Thank you for being so inspirational. It is rare that I do not feel peace watching your videos. This episode was exceptionally peaceful and inspirational. "When I in awesome wonder, consider all the world Thy hands have made". God bless you and your family. Thank you for blessing me and mine.
These videos are so dear and delightful. Thank you! Love the empty nest edition! My father, the PNW John Muir, made us all hand hewn walking sticks. My 20 year old daughter, who is a leader with SAR, uses it all the time, as did I in my serious hiking and climbing years. Love the guitar!
Amamos su canal, nos facina ver sus videos y los disfrutamos muchísimo juntos en familia, este es uno de los vídeos que nos gusta más. Saludos desde Ecuador 🇪🇨
I def prefer hiking with walking sticks. Helps distribute the load off my knees, which aren’t amazing over long distances, especially if I’m carrying a pack. My wife hates walking sticks. Even if it could help her keep from stumbling, she refuses. What an amazing scene. We spent a week in the redwoods in Oregon and Northern California and it’s SO amazing. Really enjoyed your heartfelt expression of thankfulness. We love you, even though we’ve never met!
I spent most of my life not using walking sticks. Nowadays I use them quite frequently when I hike. I find it removes some of the burden off of my bad knee, which means I can hike just that much further.
You both look so full of Joy together. I love watching your adventures. Btw I just got my efrt knife. Thanks again for all the Joy your spread to others. You are changing lives.

I will take them along on a hike and use them if the terrain is difficult; a must use if doing a wide river crossing especially if the river flow is fast. While rock hopping across a stream they will help to maintain my balance. In desert hikes they come in handy when a venomous snake crosses my path or blocks my passage and there's no other path alternative. Quite often I will take a wooden staff I fashioned from a fallen tree branch; makes a great defensive weapon especially securing a fixed blade on the end. I had to do that just once to ward off a pissed off badger. Velcro straps come in handy for fashioning a hiking staff as a spear.
We hike with 5' to 6' wood hiking staffs. I have a bad knee, so it helps when I need it. We find that a long staff can be really helpful in dealing with steep grades, especially downhill. I carve the wooden staffs to decorate them, so I get pleasure from them in multiple ways.
Hiking poles = Yes, absolutely. They help provide proprioception (knowledge of your body's position) with respect to obstacles as you move among them. On speed ascents of local mountains, I find I'm about 10% faster using poles since I can relegate some balance duties to my upper body as well as pushing with my arms. Additionally, they reduce load on your knees while descending and give you a pole to vault over obstacles or steps. Another advantage is that they can be used as an ice axe to help slow or stop you while sliding in snowy/icy slopes. The carbide tips will often grip wet, slimy rocks when your rubber soles will not. The only disadvantage is that you don't work your stabilizing muscles as much when using them. Good job on the videos; thanks for continuing them while your kids are away and so many of us are homebound.
You guys are an amazing family and inspire other to live.I done adventure my whole life with my family and as my kids getting older youngest being 15 this new content makes me reflect sad and happy for my kids and me and my wife’s solo adventures. Cheers to adventure
I am a mountain hiker from Cape Town South africa, i use hiking poles, trekking pole or sticks what ever you call them. They really if used properly take the pressure off your hips and knees and of course for balance.
Thank you for taking us along. Wonderful adventures in nature. I harvested walking sticks in south central CO (with written permission of the park service).
Hi guys I am enjoying out travels without the kids, miss them but traveling with just the two of you and lando is wonderful, thanks for another great adventure, I am watching this video on Sunday 14th February 2021,it's Valentine's day, happy Valentine's day to both of you💕💕💕.

🤣"Another episode of...woo!" ..."let's try that again" Sooooo glad you guys put that in. It's pretty much how our hikes go, breathlessly panting, squeezing through and crawling. Yes, I use trekking poles, my daughter doesn't. By the way, the REI person told me the poles should at a 90° angle. I know Pete is pretty tall. Anyway, this was a wonderful episode that us to tears. Wow what a beautiful video you did of the walk in the forest , that is a beautiful countryside up there were your at . Oh and those peppers looked awesome . I have tried to use walking sticks but end up throwing them to chase after Jaxon (my toddler). I know it’s only going to get easier from here. I could really feel the love of a mom and wife when you spoke in this video. Just so wonderful and heart warming to experience.
Walking poles, for the wife and I all depends on the hike we are doing, and of course if we remember to 1) pack them for the trip, 2) remember to take them on the hike with us :-)
Awesome! Yes you guys did a great job without the kids. You are so blessed to see God's wonderful nature . Your song 'How great thou art " is so true and appropriate. God bless you all.
Good morning from Delaware. I started out hiking trails with no experience and not using the hiking sticks. Till I hiked the Maryland challenge from Harpers Ferry in Maryland to the mason Dixon line which is on the border of Pennsylvania and Maryland. I must say I do not hike without them lol . Definitely makes your hike much easier. Love the channel And God Bless you and your family great family.
We LOVE all your videos, but Peter singing How Great Thou Art around the campfire might be our favourite. Very moving. Blessings to you and your family. P.S. You’ve inspired us to try over landing so hopefully “we’ll see you down the road”!
Carol, we hope that u have a beautiful Mother's Day! Ur awesome:)

Great narration through the first hike Carol. Your smile all of the way through tells us just how enjoyable it was.

So much to be thankful for. Oh the smell 🌲🪵 Nothing quite like it. Happy you enjoyed the video.
Yes, I carry walking sticks. You never know what surface they'll be handy for and they don't weigh much. We bought some that convert to cross country ski poles for snow, or sharp points for other surfaces and rubber tips like canes.
A good pair of walking/hiking poles are lifesavers both from falling but for my knees! I won’t hike without them!
The Pacific Northwest is just an amazing part of the world
I love your videos. It's very rare to watch genuine people. I can tell your family are good people and not just putting on an act for the camera. No big ego's. Just decent and nice people. Good luck

Greetings from Portugal!
Hello 👋
Great episode and yes walking sticks. I used to be like a mountain goat but now at 58 years old not so much!
Epic dinner..perfect on Valentines Day!!! Big trees beg to be hugged even if it’s not Valentines Day!
What awesome campsite. I would hate to leave. With all the beautiful scenery I suppose its easy to move on. And that breakfast with the greens and 🍅...😋
It was hard to leave. Thank you for coming along with us.
You guys are making AMAZING videos!! I absolutely LOVE the changes!! Woooow, so much ❤️
Very sweet moment you shared while hiking alone.
Glad to see you enjoying beautiful Vancouver Island.
Ellen and I both love and use our walking sticks. Thanks for another great video, Vancouver Island is on our bucket list to explore. We have only been to Victoria once, but look forward to being able to spend more time there on the entire island.. Travel safe.
You both will enjoy it here. It is a beautiful place for sure.
Happy Valentine's Day to You good folks !!!!

22:00 - love this dog!
Such a beautiful place! We are really enjoying the empty nest series!! "We love all the vids!!" Thanks guys!
Thanks guys! We love having you along 🌲☕️🐶
I use walking sticks a lot. Mostly due to some very crazy skiing and dirt bike days of my youth.
That is so beautiful!!
What a great Valentine’s Day for you both.
I love watching your family adventures.
I do not use a walking stick by the way.😁
w sticks great downhill, don’t become too dependent as balance goes off!
The drone shots and music... and messages of love. 😬I'll stop writing now.
Nice video empty nesters! I don't use walking sticks because I don't like anything in my hands while hiking.
In urban places, I walked with an umbrella. Then I realized that I mostly used it as a walking stick. In the military, we couldn’t use them; but now I always pack at least one tall wooden walking stick, and usually use it on a walk or a hike. When the path is rocky and may include bouldering, stick stays at camp.
I like using a walking stick but primarily due to weakness from a back injury and subsequent surgeries. I’ve never made pastry in a dutch oven but I have made cake and an apple crumb. The trees were unbelievably huge, bigger than I’ve seen in Sequoia National Park. Thank you so much for sharing. Can’t wait to see what the kids have been doing.
Apple crumble sounds amazing. We hope to add some video clips of the kids soon. We miss them!! Thanks for watching.
I always use walking sticks. They have three purposes: keep balance when crossing water (especially rapids); protection from wildlife; and most importantly, help my old aging joints. I make my Boy Scout troops use them too. Great video! I can watch her(sorry, forgot her names) cooking all day! Thanks
Definitely poles. Especially handy crossing over logs, creeks, or any treacherous terrain. Wouldn’t back pack without them. Thanks so much for sharing these big ole beautiful trees. So happy some old growth forests 🌳 remain intact.
Wow what a beautiful video you did of the walk in the forest , that is a beautiful countryside up there were your at . Oh and those peppers looked awesome . Inspirational fun video , oh and I use walking sticks for my hip and knees , helps with my balance . Lando sure looked good as all ways he’s a neat Addison to your family adventures . Cheers and thanks for sharing this great video with us all your over landing friends . From Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A.
If only those trees could talk. Wow! Amazing footage. Seeing a big "ole tree is liking looking at a church for me. I living, growing time capsule. Loved that river bed near your camp site. Spectacular clear water. Lando loved it all too! I saw an electronic collar on him. We use when on our collie and it works wonders. Is it an electronic collar, or a GPS unit?
Yes, those trees are amazing and you’re right standing under those ancient trees is like being in a huge cathedral. Yes we use the Garmin sport collar with Lando. If he gets too far ahead or out of sight we just make the beep beep noise a few times and he comes right back. 🐾 👍🏻
Got some for my birthday in June and love them.. they help you climb up steep trails and your arms get a work out as well, they can be used as self protection maybe..
It’s easy to see you guys are really missing the kids. You have such a sweet family, thank you for sharing your adventurous with us. Excited to see the new skills the kids will be bringing back from their time with XOverland
Great video, it is a very beautiful forest, of course the ideal would be for it to be there. Congratulations on this trip and thanks for sharing
Age and knees make walking sticks a must pack.
The heartfelt messages o f love were so special to share.
Starting to talk to the dog like he is one of the kids could be a sign that having ALL your kids leave can be harder than words
That last campsite was gorgeous! Y’all look like some happy nesters! Great video!
Thanks. It’s been a lot of fun.
Thank you for your scenic drive and videos.. Enjoying watching all your uploads.. Hope Many more to come
It is so BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
I was 1st hesitant to use walking sticks/ trekking poles but all I needed was one try and I've never went hiking without one. 😊 Those meals would make anyone watching die of envy! Specially that nutella pastry.❤ Both of you stay safe and hug Lando for me. Sending you love from the Philippines! 🇵🇭
Like the still shots you added. Keep up the great work!!!
Happy valentines to u all epic family ❤️❤️❤️ i miss all ur kiddos ,hoping that they’re come back soon!🥂🥂🥂👍🏻
Thank you ❤️ We miss the kiddos and hope to see them in a month or so. Hope your having a wonderful day.
I have tried to use walking sticks but end up throwing them to chase after Jaxon (my toddler). I know it’s only going to get easier from here. I could really feel the love of a mom and wife when you spoke in this video. Just so wonderful and heart warming to experience.
Thank you so much for sharing another amazing video...enjoyed every minute of it..
I never used them when I was younger... but I find they are helpful when you want to look up & around.. keeps you from stumbling!😁
Walking poles, for the wife and I all depends on the hike we are doing, and of course if we remember to 1) pack them for the trip, 2) remember to take them on the hike with us :-)
yes for the walking sticks , they will save your back side lol
You need to go to Calaveras Big Trees, in California! 1 stump in more than 18 foot across, at one time it was a dance floor!
So enjoy your videos. Almost feels like I’m right with you. Love, love, love❤❤❤
We always look forward to your videos, Thank you so much for taking us along with you. We are living in Costa Rica but I do miss Canada.
Happy you enjoyed the video. Greetings from our family to yours.
I want to try the sticks. I often hike with 25lbs of camera gear plus daypack stuff and find myself off balance on more difficult trails.
Another Epic Adventure ❤️ Thank you for sharing ❤️ Happy Valentines
Beautiful , magical , thankful . 🥰
