    I just did my kitchen backsplash(beveled subway 3x6 tiles) with the exact same tile saw as in this video, and it worked perfectly. I agree it's not a professional style saw, but for a small project, it's great! The rental place wanted $50 a day so $84 buck was a steal.
    As for the tile breaking out towards the end....I just started the cut on one end(Maybe a 1/4 inch in) and flipped the tile over to complete the cut.

    Great review, thank you. I was looking to buy one of these, but wanted to see what they were like, and your review was extremely informative and very fair and evenhanded. If any professional buys this and expects contractor quality, they are idiots. If, like me, you want something to do a limited job (cut marble tiles for a fireplace insert), this would seem to be perfect. Thanks again!

    It's actually amazing how well this type of saw preforms for the very light DIY'r! I did 1 kitchen and 2 bathroom floors with a similar product that Home Depot sells. Being I have more to do I recently went with the Chicago Electric 10 inch model (69275). Small projects this is a very good saw for the money. What surprises me the most is the motor; it's not much different then a bathroom ceiling fan motor but as long as you let the tool do the job it will get it done. With any tool, let the tool do the work and you will be good. Slow but sure even with the best saws out there.

    I had this saw and it worked great with a different blade upgraded blade, I loaned it out and it came back broken so I bought a kobolt 7 inch wet saw on sale for $138 with a laser light which comes in handy, both saws worked great for me but the kobolt is great

    To minimize excessive water splash/spray, try adjusting the blade guard to just above the height of the tile that you plan to cut.

    I used that same 3-in-1 tile cutter on my subway backsplash. Cleaning up, i kept finding little scratches and chips from the "bouncing" scoring wheel and the brackets used for pushing down/snapping the tiles. Cheapy you pay, cheapy you get.

    Thank you my friend for taking your time to review this. I have a small job to do. I looked at the at the Harbor Freight tile wet saw, as it was a bit cheaper. But this one is worth the little
    Cost saving as you said. You helped us a lot. Yes for a small job it will work for me.

    Get what you pay for and this is a very good deal.....
    Thanks for giving the basics about this tool. I never could figure out how to snap
    and score tile!! My next project involves PORCELAIN tile. I think I will be using
    masking tape on my cut line to see if it minimizes the shaggy cut or I will have to
    upgrade blades!

    I have one of the low-end Skill saws. The things I don't like about it are that the fence doesn't sit on the table. There is a gap, so if you want to cut something about 1/8" thick, it will slip under the fence and your cut will go astray. Also, the clamping for the fence is pretty bad. You think you have it set right and it walks around while you tighten it. You have to get it really tight or it won't stay. Also, the blade guard is pretty flimsy and it is only good for catching the water spray so that is can recycle. It ostensibly uses 7" blades but it will actually take 7 1/4" blades. The guard mount is the only part of it you have to make sure will clear a 7 1/4" before using it with this unit. I have successfully cut sheet plastic with a fine-toothed 7 1/4" blade. I use it as a mini-table saw. I mainly cut aluminum stock in preparation for machining.

      You don't have to oil the blade. Just hose everything off and let it dry after using it. I don't think rust would really impact the diamond blade.

    I have this saw and have used it for a few years now and I love mine but yeah it will get you wet but you can minimize this a little by not overfilling with water...if you look closely on the inside of the reservoir you will see a max line for the water. It will still sling water but I just put an old towel in front of myself..LoL.

    Update: I have found the issue with this Skill model, it does not have a removal reservoir which my 50 dollar Home Depot model did have! You do need the ability to scrape it / wash it out well when done, mere spraying it out will not work in allot of cases . The material reforms into cement or close to it.

    I have this Skil Tile Saw for my home improvements. My only problem with this saw is it moves on the table when I'm running it. (It walks) I had to brace the saw against something. It's very light weight. But yeah, he's right on for small home projects.

    There is a min/max line for the water trough, also - are you reviewing the skil saw or the tile cutter from harbor freight? harbor freight is some cheap ass stuff, doesn't stop me from going once a month though hahahaha. I had to pause this at 4miin as you hadn't really reviewed anything except for the tile cutter. how long did your blade last on ur skil saw? also, do you know if the blade height can be changed? would be great info to know. thank you, and good review despite the extra review on that HF product. hope ur project went well.

      Also, tightening the guard is like tightening lug nuts..half way tighten it then go to the top one half way tighten and then back and forth and you've got it lined up perfectly. I like your way though, will be doing that.

    • @MrDabrudda

    Also your porcelain tile has a textured serface and ceramic is smooth. What that means is your getting and even score with the ceramic and not with porcelain tile. • @MrDabrudda
      @MrDabrudda  5 років тому

      I guarantee it is ceramic tile because I use a 2" x 12" slice of it to sharpen my kitchen knives. Porcelain would not stand the rubbing of the hardened german steel knives.

    • @davleigh
      @davleigh 5 років тому

      Wrong. The fired color depends entirely on the color of the clay. I owned a business (Norfolk Pamments in the UK) making terracotta (ceramic) floor tiles, and we had a range of clays from near white to very dark red, which we could mix to produce a huge range of colors. If you are going to criticize, at least make sure you know what you are talking about!

    • @MrDabrudda
      @MrDabrudda  6 років тому +1

      It depends on the quality of the cutter you buy. I bought the HF tile score & snap type of cutter and it was horrible. I could not get a straight line on a tile to save my life. I broke down and bought the Kobalt tile cutter for around $99 and that thing is solid. I got a perfect score, snap, & cut every time.

    Note to self, Don't do instructional video in the middle of the eye of the storm, instead, take shelter. Video, well done.

    Your blade guard is set too high, that's why the water is shooting out everywhere.

    • @MrDabrudda

      Blade guard height makes no difference in the amount of water shooting out.

      Theres only 1 setting on height with this model,it does shoot alot of water/but for the price it really works well

    Dude can't you find a table to sit saw and work? I guess because I have chronic back pain it hurts me just watching you all bent over cutting.

      I usually have knee pads on if I'm working like this. Rolled my knee cap over nails or other things once too many times.

    And first of all you're using the wrong hand score for the tile ur using you're not cutting ceramic tile that's porcelain tile

    • @MrDabrudda
      @MrDabrudda  4 роки тому

      I guarantee you it is ceramic tile. I use remnants of some of those tiles to sharpen my knives. Porcelain would not stand up to a steel blade dragging across it.

    Lmao more of a harbor freight bash than a review. I'm not hating I'm repairing my piece of shit Skil saw right now because I love the little bastard for my line of work. But this video was great thanks man.

    Pouring dirty water into the reservoir. 8:15

      It was not dirty. The bucket had an orange micro fiber towel in it. The same towel I cleaned the tile saw off near the end of the video.

    Bashes the Chicago Electric brand for being made in China, yet buys a Skil brand that is made in China. BTW, the Chicago Electric has very good reviews, is similarly designed, and has a removable water tray.

      Where in this video do I bash Chicago Electric tile saw? I stated you can get a name brand product for the same price as a Chicago Electric saw.

      MrDabrudda exactly what I was thinking. Also you said it comes with the blade, which is a bonus.
