    After being cooped up at FareDrop HQ for far too long, we were ready for a big day out in Hồ Chí Minh City (or Saigon), Vietnam! Highlights include: Vietnamese coconut coffee (an old fav), the Ben Thanh Market, noods, and most of all, “Dining in the Dark” for dinner. Have you heard of it? It was the most INCREDIBLE experience. Hope you enjoy :)

    Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this UA-cam channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

    So interesting to see war history from a different perspective right? My Vietnamese friends gave me an insight based on their perspective and honestly, this was the same way with the Filipino-American War because I learned Philippine history in the Philippines then moved to the U.S. at 12 years old and things were completely different when I learned it again. I can understand getting the perspective from the museum there. The best way to learn about it though is to talk to those who lived it. My other half is a Vietnam Vet. Unfortunately, he has to live with it and the aftermath for life. It was hard for them there and hard when they came home. What was done to both sides, both by the other and their own, was criminal. It is part of history that should never be forgotten. And to this day, it is still labeled a "Police Action" instead of the war that it was.

Initially we were there to help the Vietnamese people but then it became a political war under Kennedy and Johnson. Washington ran that war instead of the military. My cousin's life was basically ruined by the Agent Orange. But I don't felt guilt. Check out what the Viet Cong did to the common Vietnamese.

    Ho Chi Minh is such a cool city, the food is amazing! Glad you guys were able to check out the American war museum. It’s crazy (as an American) how little we learned about it in school, the museum is definitely eye opening.
    On a lighter note- the dining in the dark experience seems SO cool!!!

    Oh my goodness! Kara and Nate, where do I start with this video! I love how you both capture the beauty and uniqueness of every place that you visit. Right from Nate’s coffee wake up call for Kara 💝 to Kara guiding Nate through the traffic as he filmed 🥰 to your different perspectives on the market 😅 down to date night in such a unique place ☺️ But you know what truly makes you guys so lovely, is that you both take time to really listen to people, even in the way you took in what you saw at the museum and the way you felt for the people, the way you felt for the tour guide, the way you felt what the owner or Noir was saying, the way you felt for the staff at Noir...you guys go above and beyond what they say...you actually listen to them above all the words in your conversation...I hope I’m making sense...and I think that’s what makes you one of my favourite couples on YT 🤗🤗 Love you both! And sending a big hug from across the World 🤗🤗
    P.S. Love your delicate aeroplane pendant Kara, so pretty ☺️

    As an American, I felt extremely guilty when I went to that museum. I had to walk out of the "Agent Orange" room and sit down with my thoughts for a while. Other visitors were sobbing. A hard experience, but a necessary one.

      KS: Hmmmm how guilty are you feeling over Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Syria!! These countries are suffering daily in 2019! Did you personally kill Vietnamese people, are you a Vietnam Veteran? If not why the guilt??? Just putting it out there, you got nothing to feel guilty about.

    • @jimgood1949
      @jimgood1949 5 років тому +3

      KS How did you feel about the display showing the 2,900 civilians killed by the communist invaders at Hue, during Tet 1968? Or does that museum mention that?
      It is estimated that the communist forces, NVA and VC, killed at least 164,000 Vietnamese civilians. Does that museum mention that?
      Understand that government operated museums, especially in totalitarian states such as Vietnam, do not usually tell the whole, unbiased truth.
