As a brit and buffy fan, I'm still impressed by James Marsters British accent. It's weird hearing him as a American.
It's a good accent that made me think twice but it slipped a couple of times in his first season, which gave the game away. The one that really got me was Wesley/Alexis Denisof as I was convinced he was English. Even when I saw him playing an American in a show called Bugs (I think?), I thought he did a great American accent. Turns out he is American.
Hah me too. I thought Alexis Denisof was putting on an American accent when I heard him speak in Dollhouse and I thought to myself “wow he does a good American accent” lol. I only recently found out he’s American
Yes! I didn’t realise that James was American until Torchwood. Even my mum was shocked.
Agreed, also Andrew Lincoln’s American accent in The Walking Dead - It seems many Americans were shocked to find out he’s British.
Emma looks absolutely the same. Maybe better

And they could do a bit of cgi for James, like was done with Douglass in Ant Man.
This clip with her and James on UK words shows , with the hairstyle she rocks, she could easily play 99's daughter, or mor believeably her granddaughter if another continuation of Get Smart were done. Looks like 1970s Barbara Feldon!
Something's with that cast with the age thing, I mean Charisma was DOUBLE Cordelia's age right from the start and in some of the closeups, looked NOT like a 10th grader, but a 7th grader! Only other actress I've seen have this ability to shed half her age is Lana Parrilla in Once Upon A Time , her 40 year Ms Miller playing her 18 year Regina self.
They could all act their original parts again, in the Buffy verse there’s a million different reasons they’re all older, a witches spell, a dream, another dimension, another world, you get the idea.

Emma is 100% right about how Anya "was handled" in the show. I remember being so mad, and still am 20 years later, about how she died alone in that school hallway like she was just some random side character. After the end credits started rolling I was in disbelief. I feel the same way about what the showrunners did to Cordelia.
Same here. I actually got a little teary eyed when Andrew told Xander she died saving me and Xander said that's my girl.

Btw, they did Cordelia extremely dirty in Angel.
The way they killed Anya then pretty much disregarded that death with a Throw away line of a” that’s my girl” almost destroyed the series finale.
I don't think that's what she ment. She have said before that she demanded that they killed off Anya so she wouldn't have to play the character again and that she felt the death fitted the character, but maybe a bit too abrupt. I think she means how the character was handled and how she was treated overall.
@@omigawdd They did, yeah. Even if it's true as JW claims, that the original idea was for her to die as the big bad at the end of season 4, they way it was handled felt so wrong and pointless. It was character assassination. Thankfully we got the real Cordelia for that special episode in season 5 but what was the point in killing her then? That they couldn't afford her and Spike at the same time didn't mean they had to kill her.
I loved Anya so much. She deserved so much better. I'm delighted to see these folks creating togehter again.

You know what I really love about ‘Slayers: A Buffyverse Story’? The fact everyone in it aside from Laya Deleon Hayes are returning to their characters and roles because they really miss playing them.
Like I’m maybe being a bit presumptuous with this because it’s a small company but I can’t imagine the pay is very good. But I don’t think it’s about pay for any of them. They’re doing this because they truly want to. They miss their characters enough to want to.
Especially James Marsters. I swear that guy just does not quit with being involved in absolutely everything to do with the Buffyverse when it comes to the fandom and fan service. He is honestly there for everything. It’s a bit mad actually but I love him for it.
As I said before. You won’t see the big names joining because they’re all about the money and that’s their right. There’s nothing wrong with that of course. But I do have a lot of love and respect for this rag tag lot that has been put together to do this project primarily because they want to. Because they’re passionate.
INTERVIEWER: “Why and why now?”
AMBER BENSON: “I think the world has gone kind of bananas recently and, (and I say recently - I mean the last 5 years) I think we need more stories of powerful women on both sides of the dark and the light. And I think it’s really important that we, that we sort of - we show women doing powerful things. Taking control of their own destinies and making the world a better place. And I think that sometimes you just need to leave your cruddy, like cruddy day and live in this world with us. And I think that’s the best you can do with entertainment. You can take people and give them a wonderful experience where they feel magic and power and they just want to live there with us.”
I also love what Christopher Golden said about Druscilla’s goal in this story is that she just wants to make the world a better place from her perspective of it. You know - giving all vampires this paradise where they can all thrive in the sun together as a society. That’s kind of lovely in seeing it from her perspective. And yeah - it’s totally something both Spike and Dru would do. Not try to destroy the world but “save” it.
It’s about trust and respect and the major companies want to squash that. No it’s not me being all “I hate capitalism” and blah blah blah. It’s not about that. It’s about the power behind it all. They want to take it away. And it’s individual projects like this - attached on to a well known and beloved franchise or not - that keep things in balance and do not let that power leave.
This is a team of people basically saying “hey, we were not happy with what you did to us - did to our characters - and we’ve come together to COME BACK in every sense of the phrase. This is us taking our power back and putting it where it actually belongs!”
Yes, it’s a slap in the face to Whedon. Absolutely.
As it should be. Because he dealt a pretty hard hand with something that was very important and beloved.
And that’s why this project will remain small even if it’s continued. Because there’s a huge risk in making it any bigger than what it is now. And I’m fine with it being small. You know - I’ll support it either way because just like the entire cast - I trust Benson too. You know, I’ve heard several interviews from her now - related to this and promoting some of her other works - and every time her message is the same. It’s power. It’s power that she wants and that she’s striving for and I’m all for it. I am absolutely in her corner with this.
There’s comments of “women have power - the representation of that is in everything in art/entertainment”. Yeah, well, the thing is is it’s not true women empowerment. It’s only the illusion of it. And you know how I know? Because that “representation” is heavily steeped in gaining brownie points. It’s put there purposefully to make you feel like it is genuine.
But it’s not. It’s absolutely not. I can tell the difference.
I was about to ask, wouldn't Joss need to okay this, but according to google (i don't care enough to look further), Buffy was sold to Disney last year.
Disney have a pretty crap name these days, i mean aren't they the ones peddling half of the movies that you say are failing at delivering a realistic story of women empowerment.. last i checked..

For the show itself, I really wish some of the main characters were treated better. It's awful how some of them died just like that.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer had huge impact on my life, helped me through hard times over and over. I was teen when serie started, i felt grew up with them . My favorite show to this date. Thank you all of you made this possible❤ And OMG Juliet Landau I start suspect she a real vampire.. Plot twist

I was today years old when I discovered that the actress who plays Druzella is the daughter of the late Martin Landau
Also Juliets mother is actress Barbara Baines. Both Barbara Baines and Martin Landau were the absolute coolest characters on the original tv series mission impossible. Both great actors . Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Her parents were on the original “Mission Impossible.” The good version.

my favorite actors and characters of buffyverse, spike had one of the best character developments in tv history, and drusilla was gorgeous and creepy and when we found out her tragic backstory....I am still scared shitless of her but somehow can not hate her, she was special and angelus broke her on purpose because he was furious and jealous of her innocence and potential....have to do my backlog on canonical buffy comics yet....hope one day AI can do them properly as continuation tv show

Juliet really killed it as Drusilla with the fake British accent alone..what an actress and character it was..I wonder if Juliet used her real voice for Dru ..would her character would’ve been so rememberable 😏
Her accent was the worst. It always pulled me out of the story, until I convinced myself she's crazy! Of course her voice is bonkers.
Hearing them talk about their experiences on the show as past trauma really makes it obvious how badly things got. It hurts to know that behind a beloved series was so mush suffering.
It was so much trauma that they didn't mind coming back to cash in on Joss's creation to make more money though huh? Hypocrites.

I'm all about James but mostly about Spuffy, so I can't wrap my mind around Buffy not being there. That (and an annoying partner who's not aware of my obsession) doesn't allow me to get into this Audible. But wishing the best success to them (which they'll obviously get) and the best of times to you all! Love!
Can someone please explain to me how Juliet/Drusilla has changed the least and still looks so gorgeous and stunning!!! It took me a while to recognize the other actors, but she looks as beautiful and young as ever🎉🎉

btvschosen2022, they could probably get the actress who played Darla on board. She always wanted to continue her character and she's always been around at fan conventions for the show.

It's kinda stunning how all three actors Emma, Charisma, & Amber feel some type of way about how mistreated they feel their characters were at the end of their runs. A definite pattern by JW. I'm heartened to see them exorcise some demons with this project.

I had no idea there was such a thing as buffy-verse but luckily came across it yesterday.. being a die-hard fan i was ( have bought a prop in the past and have met j weedon before i was aware of the trouble within). happy as I really miss the buffy series and especially these incredible actors. I would love to see nicholas brendon, seth green & alyson hannigan & Alexis denisof… ( lol i’m going to end up writing down everyone who ever starred in buffy🤣)

Spike was a main character in Angel season 5. The amulet was sent to Angel and Spike emerged from it. The dynamic between Angel and Spike that season was awesome. You should watch it

My only issue here is Amber’s reported intent for this series. Those strong voices have been around for decades. I think she’s undercutting the Ripleys, Sarah Connors, Leias, Coffeys, etc. that came before the initial Buffy movie & series.
I enjoy some of the newer movies featuring characters like Wonder Woman & Sergeant Rita Vrataski, but I still circle back to the female characters of 40-50 years ago.

Unfortunately the audible series is a one off now. I was so gutted about that. I really enjoyed the series though and when I listened I purposely shut my eyes and I could imagine the scenes and the actors as they were.

I didn't like the audio drama. Sooo much cringe and expository dialogue, not to mention the fights not working for audio. It needed a narrator.
Had no idea this was a thing, many fans won't, i'm sure a good chunk of us are tired of the talk, some are sick of the letdown when these rumoured remakes never come to be, and some of us are sick of thinking we might have our classic ruined with another heartless remake to hit the screens.
All i know is i'm giving this one shot, if buffy is a lesbian or anything else that is so far removed from what we saw over 7 goddamn seasons, if Angel and Willow are going to Qortoth and opening portals to the world without shrimp or anything else that feels as cringe and forced. i'm so out lol. no THANK you.

I have to say, I don't really vibe with that take on Dru, she should not have the mental coherence to have such 'societal goals' really. She honestly seems unaware of anything beyond her direct surroundings and what her powers tell her in both Buffy and Angel.
As the world's biggest buffy fan, I'm so unsure about this... has a woke vibe just listening to this! I guess listening to it is the only way to find out and if I'm right I'll have to wipe it from my memory.

We need more powerful female characters 🙄 yeah those aren’t in every single movie for the last 10 years. Buffy had a powerful female character before it was cool and no one had to force it. They just did a good job without trying to hard.
She meant decent female characters that aren't Mary Sues.
At this point how hard would an animated series be to make? Even if the animations weren't amazing it'd still be so much better than just audio imo.

Great to see more stories. I really liked Buffy back jn the day. Especially seasons 1 to 3. Saying that i was bored as soon as i heard powerful women. Make it a good story not a f×cking vanity project for your political b×llsh×t.
Amber clearly hasn’t watched much TV or film in the last 5 years. All we’ve had are powerful women and TV and film has never been better as a result.
You're right, because T.V and film has become far far worse as a result of the last 5 woke years. And most female leads of late have become 1 dimensional, hateful and misandristic.
The whole "powerful women" mantra is becoming meaningless. Women have had personal, individual power for freaking years. This is not the 50s, 60s, or earlier. WTF are they talking about?

She's not saying it doesn't exist, just that we need more of it. And Buffyverse needs a modern redemption. I just wish that all would agree to return but I understand that some of them just can't bring themselves to do it.
@@StalKalle personally I think doing it in audible form is what is stopping the bigger names from jumping in and being part of it. The company is far too small for their pay rate. Especially Hannigan who absolutely BOOMED in TV/film with her roles on How I Met Your Mother and American Pie. She got so successful and famous that they practically had to give her the “AS WILLOW” credit in Season 6 of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ because she was known for more than that by that point. Audible absolutely won’t be enough for her. It’s too small.
Maybe she would want to do it to support Benson at the least but her casting agent has probably told her that it’s not lucrative for her career.
and as for Gellar and Brendon...
Well, Gellar wants absolutely nothing to do with the Buffyverse at all anymore. Old wounds she doesn’t want to reopen. And Brendon is messed up big time in the head. I mean we’re lucky we got Anthony Stewart Head doing this. He was a main core character until he decided to be a supporting instead and they gave the final credit to Hannigan.
If they do continue Slayers - I’m very sure that the Gang they got now is all it will ever be. And maybe that’s a good thing. Because it’s this Gang that truly deserves the redemption for their characters.
And I very much do hope they continue it on because this has a lot of promise to become its own alternative series from ‘BtVS’ and ‘AtS’. Especially if it’s only ever in audible form. And I think with Benson and Golden always at the helm of it - it won’t go wrong. They’re too passionate and the rest of them fully trust and respect them.
Each of them is a wonderful person and also a great actor, I like them all and Buffy is still dear to me. It’s good to see them working together once again, to give their characters justice in a way. 🤍
