I used to love Nintendo, but after getting a steam deck and seeing how open-ended and friendly Valve has been towards users, I have been pushed so far away from Nintendo. Nintendo still makes some of the best first-party games, but I wish they act a little less corporate sometimes haha.

There is no "corporate side" of Nintendo. All of Nintendo is the corporation. Any supposedly "innocent" creative people are working at Nintendo because they want Nintendo's ill-gotten corporate money. They aren't prisoners; they're sellouts. Every atom of Nintendo is crappy and evil.

The Other M music as a whole was a disappointment compared to Super, Fusion, or the Primes.
Did it even have any original themes? Every game has rearranged Ridley’s theme, but the others I called out have plenty of originals too. I only played Other M once (and that was too many times) but at that time I only recall remakes of known Metroid tracks.

I actually found that for all three of these you definitely got the feel of the series as a whole. Every single one I was like "huh, yeah that DOES sound like it would be in that game". The Zelda one I actually thought would fit more in a modern Zelda like Breath of the Wild, and the Pokemon one may not have been in a gym but it most definitely would have been in a cave or some other dungeon. The Metroid one would have been another boss fight; the Ridley theme is just too famous that they have to use it in a Ridley battle 🤣

This is actually super cool. I'd love to see more videos like these. It's a really clever way to inspire and show songwriting techniques. Also, your Pokemon gym song was GREAT.

Nintendo should open up smaller studios across the planet where they hire talent like this instead of canceling them. Think about this Nintendo.

Just discovered this channel. Glad I did.
Yes, Pokémon remixes the gym theme from the first game in every game; however, in Black2/White2 each gym gets its own specific remix. The Ground gym has a cool bassline, the Flying gym has heroic horns, the Bug gym has symths, etc. My favorite is the Poison gym which has a punk version complete with a chant.

Good stuff. I feel like that Zelda track could've used a bit of reverb to help tie everything together and place it in the world, but that impression may just be my groggy brain failing to process things properly.

I love every one of these songs because they fit the games so well! I really want you to compose the score for a whole game now! Your whole approach to paying attention to vibes and themes that would accompany the gameplay and being so intentional with tones is so amazing. It's inspiring to see that not only are you an amazing instumentalist, but your approach to writing and crafting music for a specific purpose is on a whole other level. You would bring a lot of value to any team hoping to have the music add to the level of fun of any game. Hopefully this video launches your video game composer career!

Now I'm just thinking about how awesome it would be if you were to compose music for a video game and to have you guys make a documentary about the whole process because how you get every tone is interesting, and even seeing your thought process behind the kind of song you want to create and the tones you hope to achieve is fascinating! I would seriously watch a feature-length behind-the-scenes documentary of you guys making music for a whole video game.

Those were interesting takes, I think that the Metroid problem was that that track is a combat theme, it is supposed to get you into the "OMG i'm going to die if I don't dodge" mentality while yours would work really well for the exploration phase, where you are navigating weird environments wondering "where in the 9 layers of the underworld am I supposed to go?".
