Really revealling interview with insight to Tadej mindset. He said 50 years from now it wont matter whether you win five or two Tour de France... Regardless of whether this is agreed with elsewhere, that is what he thinks! Tadej sounds as if he'd rather win a Giro, Vuelta and World Champs than more tours. He recognises everyone else wants him to win/focus on, le tour. However, he won it first time out and his mindset towards the race and what gives him motivation may be altered because of the sequencing of his success. Fans want the match up with a primed Pogacar vs Vingegaard for le tour. However, Tadej currently seems as much energised by the diversity of his victories across a career than purely the most prestigious race, he won it first time out. It may not be on the same pedastal on his psyche. He is not an obsessive GC rider preparing like a Team Sky rider (Wiggins, Froome, Thomas, Bernal) or LA before that .... which Fans love about him too. UAE pay him €6 million per year to win - the tour. He can win just about any race yet the pressure of others desires is really all about him winning that race. He appears to want to be free to RACE many beautiful races... fight Van Der Poel for a world title & Flanders etc. He doesnt want 6-7months of slow build crescendoing in a July peak. Everyone wants to tell the most talented guy what he should do with that talent to satisfy their own curiosity. He is the one with talent though.
To not have regrets i’d rather he didn’t waste his prime years focussing only on the tour and maybe finishing second, especially as he has already won tdf twice
I absolutely respect Pogacar, as a pro cyclist. His bursts of speed is borderline superhuman. I love Jonas for his superior climbing and both men are extremely humble
Chapeau to Pogi. Amazing how passionate he is for the sport and most importantly for his unique way to choose the races that his heart and challenge calls him. Cycling is not just about the tour. For me Tadej is already a legend
Thank you for this interview. Tadej is fantastic.I really like that he doesn't just focus on TDF, but takes part in other races he is constantly in shape and at the top. It's going to be an interesting season, they can't wait.
Designing a 3-week Tour route for Pogacar; would be harder climbs in the first week, no penultimate climb longer than 15 km, under 2000 m altitude and no mountain top finish in the 3rd week except for maybe some Massif Central climbs. TTs designed to be really high speed, without too many twists and turns, ups and downs.
Tadej is certainly good enough to win monuments, one week races and the TDF in the same year. (Not crashing is key!) The key in the 2024 tour will be whenever it is above 2000m... (I am sure he will get the Giro, Vuelta and World Champs when the course suits him!)
Pogi Is the best rider but how can he beat Jonas. The guys Is a machine. In tt can give 1 Min in 30 km, never lose more than 10/15 sec and doesn t have a bad day + a stellar team. No One Is unbeattable but Jonas of the past 2 years was certantly very close
@@stefanocavallin6221 I think TP knows that a team beat him in 2022 and that he got his nutrition wrong the one day (apparently he missed a mussette) and in 2023 he broke his wrist. TP has not been beaten mano a mano vs Jonas. There is a lot above 2000m where Jonas does seem to have a physical advantage - but maybe TP will have a chance to go to altitude after the classics...
Fun watching him smirk to himself as it's said "they say Jonas is the better climber and time trialist." He's taking that personally. This coming tour will be fun to watch.
My schedule for Tadej POGACAR: Plan a) Milano-Sanremo, Tour of Flanders, Ardennes classics, Giro d Italia, Olympic games, world Championship Plan b) Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Giro d Italia, Tour de France, world Championship
With his 2024 race schedule he talked about the team maybe wanting something different from what he wants. I feel like this is either the team not wanting him do so many spring classics or he wants to do Giro Vuelta and they want him to race Tour? IDK. Loved him in the classics. I think UAE know Pogi is their only realistic chance of challenging Jonas at the Tour so obvi they want him there. And if Pogi were to race Giro Vuelta then guys like Ayuso, Yates and Almeida who you have to keep happy have no real grand tour chances.
In my opinion, Pogacar should participate to the Giro, in which he hasn't competed before, and the Vuelta, in which he placed 3rd in his first participation with 3 stage wins.
I sure hope he prioritizes grand tours next year. Apart from LBL and MSR he has won all the monuments that suit him. Giro and TdF in 2024 could see him bring his best shape yet and benefit from other high-level competitors attacking Vingegaard.
Excellent Interview. Tadej, your ambitions are more intelligent than those of your sponsors. I wish you that you can go for them. And: you can win MSR as well as PR. Go for it.
TP needs to forget the spring classics and do the shorter stage races to win the TDF. Otherwise JV will keep winning. Second place in not bad, but TP is capable of first.
@@markus539 Yup - and he expends too much energy trying to win and outmuscle everyone in the early stages. If he conserved his energy and timing and is a bit more patient then he could be more lethal towards the end.
Don’t agree, In 2022 he was attacked by 3 world class riders constantly. (WvA up ahead Jonas and Primoz taking turns) he then was like i am gonna smoke all of ya on this climb. Only Jonas hanged on. Then WvA took. Pee at the top picked up his aero bike. Put some more pressure in the tyres. And brought EVERYONE back on the WvA express. Everyone except Pogi was ready for round 2 and he cracked. Jumbo may try again with Kuss and Jonas. But Pog probably has learned. In 2023 he just wasn’t in top shape. And i was impressed how long he held up giving us an proper race for 2 weeks long.
Im Danish and I love Pogi and love the blessed era we are witnessing with all these gifted riders, but I don't think Pogi stands a chance of beating Jonas in a 3 week GT, unless he gives up his spring classics. What we know. The last 3 years pogo has lost to Jonas in the 3rd week of the tour, so we can call this a pattern. The only thing we need to see yet to definitely rule out that Pogi can't beat Jonas, is if Pogi will give up his spring classics and focus on the tour 100%. let's see if he does that, I don't think he will instill Pogi has won all the classics he wants and has been world champion, so I think that Jonas with no injuries will win the next cobble of years. Can't see anybody the next years beating Jonas even though Ayuso and rodrlguez looks promising. As long as the tours parkour 3rd week has hard mountain stages or hilly ITT s then Jonas will win. Mark my words. Jonas will without accidents be at least 5 times Tour de France Champion
The passion and respect Pogi has for this sport, even for his competitors are so wonderful. He is indeed a true champion in his mind.
Doesn’t matter how many tours he wins. Pogi is the people Champ.
Agreed!
nice cope bro lol
Tadej is the most natural person and humble person among the cycling stars 💫🌟✨
ahh buddy, you got that one wrong my friend. Vingegaard way more humble❤

It's so satisfying to watch this after 10 months. Tadej has not only won the "big prize", but the Giro and Liège as well. Incredible season so far.

He's the sado-mazo champ! He enjoys the pain, embraces it and goes over it.

Great answers by Pogi, but why do you ask him a question he has already answered? That aside, good job 👍
It is a strength to know one's weaknesses, I hope Pogi will save energy and not burn so many matches for nothing in the Tour of 24.
I hope that Pog will get himself back to the top podium position
Have they changed bicycle? Or how can he wear an Aurum shirt?
