Uematsu crafted the most unnecessarily magnificent score in all of gaming history. Here I am crying to you crying over not just how nostalgic this is, but how it's STILL the best, to this day.
I remember when I was a kid and first played FF6 on the SNES. The opening scene and music sent chills up my spine. *spoilers* FF6 stands out from almost all other jrpgs in that it was at it's core deeply tragic. You don't start in your hometown surrounded by people who love you, to soon go off on an adventure. No, you start as an aggressor killing innocent people, albeit an unwilling one. Almost all the main characters have their own personal tragedy's. Halfway through the game, you fail, the world is ruined and everyone goes their separate ways. You are reintroduced to the world through the eyes of Celes who wakes up years later stranded on an island and depending on events, attempts to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff. But she lives, escapes the island, and one by one brings the party back together, finally ending Kefka's tyranny. But make no mistake, it's a pyric victory. In my view FF6 stands out as one of the greatest rpg's of all time. Not because of it's gameplay or graphics, but because of it's consistently, deeply human story.
@@MidoseitoAkage It's not even close. FF7 doesn't even make sense as a self-contained story. FF6 doesn't need a prequel, sequel, or a single line of dialogue extra from what it is.

I didn’t realize what I was clicking on. I’ve never played FF6 before but after hearing that song at the start I gotta change that. I can’t wait to play it
No matter how many games in this franchise they make, this one will always be the top number 1, and by far the most tearjerking game they have ever made. For many of us the best adventure one could ever have. Literally the best game in the entire franchise for me. And that's by a longshot. Character development is phenomenal for jrpg standards here, and it was never again at this peak.
From someone who never got round to VI this is how I felt playing VII remake when it released. Absolutely shed tears at it. Absolutely amazing how jrpgs and just games in general can do this.
The first JRPG I ever played. This is a dragon I’ve been chasing for 28 years… (Also sent-away for the OST in like ‘95. The only thing I’ve ever bought from Japan.)
I cried many times when I played it too. So many of the songs just hit much harder now with the real instruments! I really lost it during the new section of "Searching for Friends"!
SO I think all the Pixel remasters are a noticable step up from the originals and really do show the qualtiy of work that went into them....but damn FF6 they really went above and beyond
FF6 deserves the remake treatment FF7 had. EDIT: I made this comment over 2 years ago. I've had time to reflect on my comment as the FF7 Remake games have started coming out. I would like a faithful remaster of FF6 not whatever is happening with the FF7 Remake. I don't think remaking FF6 is a good idea, maybe a good remaster that adds without taking away but I know that won't please everyone, so I don't have a good answer.
I kind of agree. But 6 is also perfect the way it is like Chrono Trigger. My pipe dream was always 7 getting the remake (also Legend of Dragoon) And as much as I do love six, remaking it is a herclean task, even moreso then 7. I have been playing a game called "Sea of Stars" and if they did remake 6 I would want it to be in that style as opposed to the 3D aspect. It would work better in my opinion
Ff7 remake taught me that you should never ask for that. They will fuck it up so badly you'll question if you ever even loved the IP in the first place
I didn’t even grow up with it, I hear it for the first time a few days ago, and I can already tell that it’s going to be with me a long time. Half the reason is the music.
This game was the first FF game i ever played. It's definitely the one that pushed me to play the others, even though this one is the best of them all.
Had the exact feels when I heard all the remastered songs. Played this game when I was a kid and all those emotions from back then just flooded through. My favorite FF game ever.
That intro, the fact they didn't have the credits scrolling confused a lot of new players of ff6 and didn't quite have the impact it did because it just didn't make sense to have that long intro otherwise
I was never brought to tears, but I had the biggest smile on my face listening to the soundtrack. I was nervous they would mess up my favorite Final Fantasy soundtrack, but I was worried for nothing. Almost every track is spot-on, and the few that aren't are still a joy to listen to. I know the music was composed in 1993/1994, but I nominate this for the best soundtrack of 2022, and it's not even the end of summer yet.
I heard something about them deliberately not hiring a professional opera singer for Celes as Maria since ingame lore Celes isn't a professional singer, she's a stand-in for Maria haha
The music nerd in me knows these feels, nostalgia or not. Edit: Well, lord, never thought the prelude at the end would actually break me. Well done, game 👏
Or a full 3D HD one, with the same spirit from the original game. I know that I sound sort of dumb, but this game deserve to be 3D with high quality cutscene.
I have never cried while playing this game, but I get it. There are so many great/sad moments in the game. The destruction of Cyan's castle. The train scene. The opera. Celes and Cid's final moments.
Don't worry Jared! You're not the only one who cried!! FFVI will always be for me the game that shows that Final Fantasy is waaaaay more than "Pretty edgy boys with huge swords"... Still my favorite FF after all this time!
Final Fantasy IV (or FFII when I first played it on the SNES) is still my favorite of the series, as it was the first FF game that I played (I did have a NES prior to that, but never did play Final Fantasy until much later) and while the gameplay had since been surpassed by other FF titles, the story was so amazing to me, so I have the most nostalgia for it. Having said that, Final Fantasy VI (III) is a very close second, and the gameplay was on another level yet again and the story and music are epic as well (Searching for Friends = best theme in the franchise, fight me). Still go back to it on occasion, and will definitely do a Pixel Remaster run on it eventually.
I felt like such a baby playing through this game myself. It's funny to see him, quite literally, react to this in the same way I did. I mean, I too was just jamming out to that heroic theme until those extra measures and little musical flares hit me. Never in a million years would I have guessed that Locke's heroic theme would bring me to tears. LoL that was this entire game for me. Nothing but manly tears and, it was great. ^_^
It's been interesting to see the response to these remasters now that they are all out. I recall when they were first announced the receptive seemed mostly negative. But once they actually came out the response became much softer and even positive is a lot of cases. Still waiting to see if they release for consoles myself.
i think many people already commented this and about this during the years (specially here on YT...), but Square put a freaking opera piece inside a JRPG!... they went nuts!...; but softened a lot of hearts along the way...; by doing it (by doing so)... risky genius move.
The only disappointing thing to me is the fact that they didn't keep credits for the march on the opening sequence. It's jarring to me just because I remember that first time seeing it Christmas morning 1994 on the SNES. Still, everything else was great.
Did anyone happen to capture all of Jerd’s FF6 streams? It’s a shame he didn’t upload them to his channel. Would’ve been nice to go back and revisit them, instead of them being lost to time.
While the improved pixel art really is a sight to behold, I'm just sooo so so soooo glad they kept the actual feel of the old music when recording the new stuff. It really just hits. For context about people in chat commenting on when Celes is singing. That bit is just brilliant. She's not an opera singer. She's a soldier and a general. I'm happy they didn't make her sound like an actual opera singer, it just works better!!
I get the motivation to make her sound imperfect, I like how much of the Buffy cast aren't great at singing because we get to hear their real voices in that episode. But Celes is supposed to be _convincing_ as an opera singer, good enough to fool someone who's seen the show enough to want to kidnap its star. I recommend looking up the video that has all the different languages of the opera, which kind of makes the English version sound like the worst one. It's fine as is, but if the performance was just great, there'd be nothing but praise. It's the only time we ever get to hear her voice, so I think taking artistic license to make the scene as good as it can be would yield a better final product than a hard commitment to realism.
So many songs from each Final Fantasy can really touch your heart during those special moments, that’s the magic of Nobuo Uematsu! Same with Kingdom Hearts and Yoko Shimomura!
I was a bit young when FF6 came out so I never played it growing up, but terras theme got me tearing up a bit as well. Makes me wonder what game from my childhood will get a remake and have my crying. Maybe Legends of Dragoon???
You know that's much we gave Square Enix so much like I wish they put them in Home console they did an amazing job with 1 through 6 and the music's are pretty amazing and the graphic
Projared is to FF6 what Maximilian is to FF7. Emotionally linked to their game so tightly they were brought to the point of tears on multiple occasions by their respective remakes/remasters.
I grew up with ProJared, FF6 was always his favorite game. He would finish the game then start playing it again, and again. Where's Jared? In his room playing FF6.
I didn't get to finish this game. I wanted to but the game was a bit too hard because i missed a lot of things that i was supposed to get. It's about time I come back.
Man, for as weird as the Pixel Remasters are, you can tell the devs clearly, CLEARLY loved FFVI the most. I'd still say the PSP versions of 1, 2, and 4 are better, and 5 I hold the Advance Version as still the best, but man, they really put a lot into the presentation of VI. Especially that Opera Scene, it almost goes into that HD 2D style of Octopath and the DQIII remake.

That opening when the lights of Narshe appear over the horizon gets me every time.
The paraphrase Jared in his ff6 review. Every song in this game is the best song in the game
From someone who never got round to VI this is how I felt playing VII remake when it released. Absolutely shed tears at it. Absolutely amazing how jrpgs and just games in general can do this.
The first JRPG I ever played. This is a dragon I’ve been chasing for 28 years…
(Also sent-away for the OST in like ‘95.
Hearing Gau's Theme in this version made me cry lol. Knowing his story in WoR made the track hit harder to me
FF6 deserves the remake treatment FF7 had.
I'm with you, but I think FF6 is just perfect the way it is.
Letting Nomura fuck it up?
To completely ruin it? Nah. This version is immaculate
I kind of agree. But 6 is also perfect the way it is like Chrono Trigger.
My pipe dream was always 7 getting the remake (also Legend of Dragoon)
And as much as I do love six, remaking it is a herclean task, even moreso then 7.
Uematsu just went fucking mental for the soundtrack of this pr
I didn’t even grow up with it, I hear it for the first time a few days ago, and I can already tell that it’s going to be with me a long time. Half the reason is the music.
This game was the first FF game i ever played. It's definitely the one that pushed me to play the others, even though this one is the best of them all.
This is the long awaited remaster we have waited for.
I also teared up at the opera scene. I really don't blame him! So beautifully done.
Had the exact feels when I heard all the remastered songs. Played this game when I was a kid and all those emotions from back then just flooded through. My favorite FF game ever.
Just thinking about Terra's theme makes tear up at times. Mood
In the being of the game, the same thing happens to be. The tears just come out!
I think I would have had the absolute same reactions as Jared if we ever got a Chrono Trigger Pixel Remaster
Celes singing in the opera absolutely destroyed me.
That intro, the fact they didn't have the credits scrolling confused a lot of new players of ff6 and didn't quite have the impact it did because it just didn't make sense to have that long intro otherwise
Feels good to know I'm not the only brought to tears playing this game, recently replayed it for the first time in 30 years.
I just realized that Celes throwing the flowers is foreshadowing her suicide from the cliff.
When he said "Thats my favorite theme" when the prelude played i shed 2 tears extra. Thats my favorite theme since i played FF1 when i was a boy.
Music is magical. Who ever doesn't at least include a quirky tune in their little indi game is missing out on so much atmosphere.
I really wish that opening segment of FF6 still had opening credits
I heard something about them deliberately not hiring a professional opera singer for Celes as Maria since ingame lore Celes isn't a professional singer, she's a stand-in for Maria haha
I get that part, but what doesn't feel right is how she still fooled Setzer, man is deaf lol.
@@Salim-RSlyrics should be in Italian imo
Completely understand. VI & X hit me something fierce when I hear their respective soundtracks.
Was with you in chat for most of these moments. Was a fun ride 😍
The music nerd in me knows these feels, nostalgia or not.
Edit: Well, lord, never thought the prelude at the end would actually break me. Well done, game 👏
I still remember all of these songs, note for note.
ohh damn the aria de mezzo carattere has now a voice in music.
Should be Italian. Check out the UA-cam video with the Swedish Symphonic performing it, much better imo
We need a proper 2D/HD remake of this masterpiece.
Or a full 3D HD one, with the same spirit from the original game. I know that I sound sort of dumb, but this game deserve to be 3D with high quality cutscene.
No we don't, the game's fine as is.
Yes we do. It is not like the original one will be destroyed if they ever make a remake.
nostalgia the drug nobody can ignore
Terra theme is, awesome sounds like it's a orchestra live
No games will ever match final fantasy vi and chrono trigger
The music in the PR of every FF game goes hard as hell. Theme of love, battle on the big bridge, everything in FF6, it all works so well.
GOD DAMIT!! who the hell is peeling onions.
I have never cried while playing this game, but I get it. There are so many great/sad moments in the game. The destruction of Cyan's castle. The train scene. The opera. Celes and Cid's final moments.
Celes and Cids final moments? You mean in the WoR? But you can save Cid if you only catch the fast fish on beach and feed them to him.
@@brudel001 Most people probably failed at that let's be real
Thanks for uploading this. I missed the opera due to twitch acting up.
Ah yes, the best song in the game. All ofthem
Don't worry Jared! You're not the only one who cried!! FFVI will always be for me the game that shows that Final Fantasy is waaaaay more than "Pretty edgy boys with huge swords"... Still my favorite FF after all this time!
Nothing wrong with FF7 tbh :p i love both in different ways. FF6 was fantastic for sure, as is 7
Final Fantasy IV (or FFII when I first played it on the SNES) is still my favorite of the series, as it was the first FF game that I played (I did have a NES prior to that, but never did play Final Fantasy until much later) and while the gameplay had since been surpassed by other FF titles, the story was so amazing to me, so I have the most nostalgia for it.
Nobuo is the GOAT of OST's
The fact that these aren't on consoles is why the reaction was bad.
@@TheIllustriouBlueJay That's not how I recall it, I recall a lot of people saying they looked bad.
i think many people already commented this and about this during the years (specially here on YT...), but Square put a freaking opera piece inside a JRPG!... they went nuts!...; but softened a lot of hearts along the way...; by doing it (by doing so)... risky genius move.
The only disappointing thing to me is the fact that they didn't keep credits for the march on the opening sequence. It's jarring to me just because I remember that first time seeing it Christmas morning 1994 on the SNES. Still, everything else was great.
4:14 this add to the music "hit" me too. Nice improvement! Same at 4:34 and 4:46. He's a music sensitive man, who went through nostalgic tunnel :D
@@TigerNightmare100%, check the Swedish Symphonic performing it in Italian with real opera singer, much more powerful
One of the greatest openers in a video game.
THIS!!!! is the PEAK OF FF!!!
Forever Rachel makes me cry too.
So many songs from each Final Fantasy can really touch your heart during those special moments, that’s the magic of Nobuo Uematsu! Same with Kingdom Hearts and Yoko Shimomura!
The music the first time you get the falcon hits so hard. Best song in the game
If there was on complaint I had, I wish the fonts were better.
One of the best games ever made.
Just my opinion.
I didn't get to finish this game. I wanted to but the game was a bit too hard because i missed a lot of things that i was supposed to get. It's about time I come back.
wow, Jared is really touched!
Nobuo Uematsu hits and reflects with this song very well the inner struggles and feelings from terra
Such a great song. But I first heard it in a fan game called Bladerunners SX
(deleted like 1240 words ) i feel with you .. its childhood ,, its . its amazing !
I really hope these pixel remasters come to consoles soon. I’d love to revisit FF4-6 especially.
If were not getting a 2.5 HD remake of this game we better be getting this version on the switch goddamn it
I started balling when the final fantasy main theme comes in at the end too
I was like... uhh this is dumb, but then I started getting sucked in... then I turned the music up... then I started crying too.
awesome man
omg i need to stop waiting! getting this game today!
