From watching this video I believe that these top speakers are sensitive to input signal.. my suggestion would be is to lower the input signal on the speaker itself. Remember that the gain is not a volume it’s to control the input signal.. Set your mixing board to max with out redlining and lower the gain on the tops. Start at -6db and go down until you get the desired signal without clip, and then play with the sub signal without going over infinite, which is 0db. So you don’t get distortion.. that should give you headroom without clip. Just a suggestion..
thanks for the review, I watch the sound couple and thought about buying these also but now I'm thinking of getting either the RCF hdl-10 or QSC LA-108 . Your video of the music fest was great !!! The Presonus sounded great....
Are you running a digital crossover? If not you ha e to get one. Relying on the subs built in hipass/crossover is a nono. Get yourself a dbx driverack pa2 for a few hundred bucks. It seperates all the low mids and highs for you and can do a tonof other stuff, like ring out the speakers to the room and cancel feedback etc. Good video either way!
Would try with a dbx venue 360 speaker manager or a Lake 44 to separate the freq. I think they're 500 W RMS/1000 Peak. They're very clean and with good punch but is not perfect. I use QSC L1 for similar effect.
I'm pretty sure the EV subs don't have a pass through option. They always send out full range. So if you daisy chain them the tops, the tops are receiving full range. That would make them clip rather easily. You need to manually cross the tops over at whatever you subs are crossed at.
The tops have a HPF engaged. It does it even when running an external crossover at 102 Hz with my X32 Mixer. A input signal clip before the amp limit light is just a thing with these speakers.
If you look at the specs online, it says 2000W peak, 1000W program, and 500W RMS. So yeah, they're a 500W RMS box... Though that 500W is split evenly between the two amp channels, so 250w RMS to the woofer. About the same power as a ZLX.
Had 4 Of these hoping for better coverage over my usual tops which are JBL SRX835p, I always run subs… These things clip so easily, I doubt they actually achieve 128db per cab more like ~120 realistically, although coverage was better with these, 4 couldn’t even get close to spl to my pair of Srx835p
Great vid thinking of getting. You should run sound from external mixer. And runs tops and subs to different channels then pan each channel. This will gave u better gain staging.
Hey thanks! But I do that for live sound gigs. This video I did want to specifically target the DJ audience who may not run mixers and rely on just the outputs from their DJ boards
Most active subs today have a mode for connecting tops. Please look into that. This will separate the bass signal from the tops and eliminate what you’re experiencing. What you’re doing is slaving which would send the full signal to the tops. That will destroy those tops.
These subs don’t have a hpf on them. The tops however do have a hpf. It works, and eliminates the lows. The issue is just the line signal “clips” very early. I’ve worked with sound for 13+ years. I know what you mean. That’s how Mackie makes theirs
Been looking at these for a while, but went with 2 ekx 15's in the end, because of the wood cabinet and the output. But i still think you did an awesome vid to make this.
I had the option of 6 of these or four ETX 35 P. I stacked them two per side for an event where 350+ people where in one room. I think I made the right decision. Ready to see them work for my music festival with 3 hanging per side.
@@lamarcobbs1the ETX would slay the PreSonus...the only thing they do better is horizontal dispersion...but if you array 2 35p per side they would eat the PreSonus for lunch .
That 0.8A must not be half power. 5.5A is a little higher than I thought. I have 4 of those and two to three turbosound monitors on a 20A outlet. No issues. I wouldn’t use more than three of these on each side being hung. The low needs cut off around 140hz on those to keep them from getting too crazy on the clip light. So it’s not because of being fed from the sub. I do that too sometimes and never had issues. I mentioned in one of your other videos that I have the issue of them prematurely going into clip and over mode. I find that they are not actually clipping and haven’t heard by artifacts when those lights come on.
He asked basically saying he has 4 of the cdls but they are easily red lining indicating signal clipping and is wondering what he can do to fix his problem
@@lamarcobbs1 This problem is from the factory but the treble does not burn. It is best to use it at zero, do not upload it anymore and I have asked many who have the same problem. I think there are several of us, we must make a claim
The maximum current draw of the EV-ZLX-15P is 6.5 amps 0.8 amps is the minimum current draw for the presonus CDL-12P 0.6 amps for the minimum current draw and 5.5 amps for the maximum current draw

I wouldn’t say garbage. The input signal does clip easily though. Try boosting the gain on the speaker where the clip and limit lights hit at the same time. Also run a separate line for subs. That way more bass won’t mean more line signal to the tops
Completed misapplied....they have 120 degree horizontal dispersion so the way you have them arrayed they are gonna comb filter like crazy...they need to be one atop the other.
Some say 120 some say 110. Either way, this the first day I’ve used them, cut some slack dude. It literally says first impression. And I really don’t care to stack them unless they’re hanging in an array. If not, the top speaker is aiming upwards over the people’s head. The ETX will beat them unless you get 3-4 per side like I have. Can go up to 6. Put an ETX in an auditorium with a lifted floor, and you’d see where these come in handy
I’m slowly figuring them out. I’m going to stick with em because of the scalability. A single pair alone is far to week, but being able to have up to 6 a side makes them worth it for me. And no cone filtering.

Thanks for doing this video. Can't find much on these besides The Sound Couple.
This is the coolest guy. He a truck. A portable stage... and does festivals
Good to see you back homie
Wow! That's wonderful! How much is that & how will I get them?
I agree i just got the 10p's and they're lighter so trade them in if you're worried about the weight.

Brother, I would use all the same types of speakers together, and +10 on the sub is too high, +5 would be great enough. Thanks for sharing.
I have a pair of those - sweet spot on them is +5db
On 0db your overload on the input not output. As I understood.
You should just run the bass from the booth ,and the tops from the master .

buys line arrays.... doesn't use them as line arrays.... stack em brother. thats what they are for
they aren't line arrays like normal line arrays. They are a cross between point source and line arrays.
They are still curved to give you the coverage if your just using one on each side. They are $1000 each of your like me you can only get 2 at a time.
Hiss isnt from the speaker. Thays in your chain somwhere.
It’s definitely the speakers
you need another tech with you
I hire help for the big gigs. I still think I’m young and I work out lol. So these small set ups are easy for me
