Angelina Jordan's decision to interpret the song like this is majestic, because Angelina sacrificed what no one would have done, all her vocal virtues and her prodigious technique, to give a message of love, hope, faith, part of a woman. who has sacrificed her family, her physical health and her life for a noble and just cause, for equality and the rights of women and children in Iran, sentenced to 10 years in prison and the firmness of not recanting even knowing that she can to lose everything, her children present at the ceremony received the award, it was a message from a desperate mother to her children present in the unique voice of Angelina Jordan, it was not AGT or the Super Bowl to show off her voice, Angelina Jordan left vanity and the Ego for an act of loving kindness.
When you say "I'm not gonna lie", does that mean unless you preempt with that statement, you're probably gonna lie to us. The children of Nargis were in the audience of the Nobel audience, this emotional performance full of longing was highly respectful. Their mother is on hunger strike in prison after being whipped.
Angelina did this arrangement in a soft, tender, emotional way because she is singing to the children of the woman who won the Nobel Peace Prize, Narges Mohammadi. She is a human rights advocate currently imprisoned in Iran for the last 9 years for fighting for women's rights. Her 17 yo twins (boy & girl) haven't seen their mother in 9 years, so belting wasn't in the cards for this one. I loved the boxing analogy which perfectly describes what she usually does with a song. She slowly builds up for the knockout punch, but this time it wasn't with a belt, but rather with one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard.
She definitely arranged this perfectly. It wasn't what I was expecting but, as she usually does, she knew exactly the perfect way to do it for the situation.
@@103mrgAngelina commented on her IG account thanking NRK & KORK & @rolflennartstenso for 'trusting her in the process of making this incredible rendition of Unchained Melody.' That sure sounds like she was at least involved in the arrangement. If she didn't do it, then who did?
Hi Navy Doc. Great reaction, We have a newe word to describe Angelina and her performances, ( Ethereal ). NavyDoc, once you learn the background to this performance, then you will fully appreciate the choices Angelina made. I thought "Unchained Melody" was a odd choice for this event, but have since learned the history of the song. More on that later. Certainly Angelina was thrilled to be performing back in her home country of Norway, where she is a national treasure, but this performance goes way beyond that honor. She first performed at the Save the Children event at the 2014 Peace Prize event, when she was 8 years old. Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian. We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change. In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time". "Unchained Melody" comes from the film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release.

Great reaction to this very special performance... The first time I ever heard Angelina, she was singing “Unchained Melody”. She was 9 years old and I was instantly down the rabbit hole… I’ve been listening to “Unchained Melody” since 1955. I heard Harry Belafonte cover it 1956. Then many others before Bobby Hatfield's incredible rendition in 1965... In the movie “Unchained ”, a prisoner is longing to be his wife. Todd Duncan sings the song from a prison cell he shares the lead character and other inmates... But now, this is the real deal. A real life tragedy. It’s as if this song was written for this moment and Angelina to come along. Angelina is singing for the Nobel Peace Prize laureate. A women’s rights activist who is sitting in an Iranian prison cell facing 31 years of sentences. She hasn’t seen her family in 9 years. And, they’re sitting there in front of Angelina as she sings... Angelina presents this song delicately, tenderly and with such reverence to Narges and her family. A more emotional and somewhat different presentation than she’s done in her past performances. She could have easily sung the song with more power or in a more upbeat fashion similar to Bobby Hatfield. But, she was delivering a message of loss and longing to loved ones. This was a tribute to Narges Mohammedi. As such, it wasn’t your typical concert performance... As she so often does, Angelina reached back in time with her arrangement and touched the original meaning and emotion of the song… It was such a special moment…
AJ rearranges everything she performs to give it the greatest impact on the listening experience, this is what makes her the greatest vocalist that has ever lived.
Thanks. You are absolutely correct. She loves singing and her support from family and Republic Records are doing a wonderful job. Her exposure to the world will happen and she will spread live and kindness
Nice reaction, thanks. The ability this girl has to captivate and move the people who listen to her is absolutely incredible, as is her sensitivity in choosing and interpreting the song for this ceremony. This performance of hers is charming and wonderfully intimate, she made this legendary song perfectly suited for the occasion of the tribute to Narges Mohammadi's story! I was moved to see and hear Angelina singing in such an incredibly mature and charming way 7 years after the last time and in the same studio and certainly also with some of the musicians who accompanied her as a child, when she took her first steps towards his musical future. Here Angelina was simply fantastic and "unchained", probably the only singer who at only 17 years old has already sung on 2 different occasions at the celebrations of Nobel Prizes.💛🧡❤

You dont seem to appreciate why this performance is so restrained and sombre , its because of this tribute to narges muhammadi , who has been sentenced to a long prison term and lashes for simply refusing to wear the higab and calling for freedom of expression for women in IRAN .
Being honest, I had no idea the story behind the performance when I did the reaction. I felt it worked and was good anyways. Thankfully people here have explained the backstory of everything which helped to give me a better understanding of why she specifically chose to do it the way she did.
You didn't seem to have any sense of the solemnity of the occasion that is the Noble Peace Prize Presentation. The rendition presented here was perfect for that occasion. I think that a bit less babbling during the song would have also been more appropriate.
@@NavyDoc5184Reacts a nice reaction could have been better if you included the introduction from the host as the vast majority of reactors have done , also cutting the ending so abruptly was unfortunate imo .

"Now, in the blue corner, weighing in at 125 pounds, Angelina, the knockout queen. Jordan!" Interesting analogy you came up with.
I believe she kept it subtle due to the somberness of the occasion.
Belting would have focused on her and not the occasion. Humble Genius.
She looked like a Greek Goddess and sang like a Heavenly Angel!

^^^^^^Great reaction to the greatest version of Unchained Melody that has ever been performed in its existence since it was written in 1955 and performed by more than 1000 great vocalists.
Unchained Melody Nobel Peace Prize 2023
This video is a masterpiece that I have watched more than 100 times coming from Oslo, Norway. Every time I hear the KORK Orchestra begin playing, I feel a surge of emotion because I know what is coming next: the most amazing rendition of Unchained Melody by the incomparable Angelina Jordan. She has a voice of an angel and a talent beyond words. Unchained Melody Nobel Peace Prize 2023 Some ask why Angelina Jordan would pick Unchained Melody for this event, Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian human rights activist who received the prestigious award remains in Iran. One of the most popular and enduring love songs of all time, Unchained Melody, has a surprising origin. It was composed for a 1955 film called Unchained, which tells the story of a man who is incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. He yearns to be free and reunite with his wife and children, who are waiting for him outside. The song captures his emotions of loneliness, hope and longing, and has been covered by many artists over the years, but none in my lifetime of 76 years have conveyed such emotion as Angelina Jordan did at this performance. © Larry D. Nice reaction , could have been great if you had included the introduction from the host and not cut the end so abruptly .
This was a reaction. If you want to watch it uninterrupted, watch the original.
Thanks ek. I find it funny how people sometimes seem to forget that the point of a reaction video is to react and talk about it.
@@NavyDoc5184Reacts a nice reaction could have been better if you included the introduction from the host as the vast majority of reactors have done , also cutting the ending so abruptly was unfortunate imo .

Dont think you've done a reaction to this " I'm still holding out for you " aged 10. ua-cam.com/video/Dv8mjCh5iiE/v-deo.htmlsi=WKbBxn7f6N6M_hVQ. a phenomenal performance and really a fan favourite
You need to stop talking while she’s singing
