What a fascinating and intimate interpretation of this mythical song, absolutely suitable for the occasion of the tribute to Narges Mohammadi! I was moved to see and hear Angelina singing in such an incredibly mature and charming way, this wonderful version of a fantastic song and so appropriate to the occasion, 7 years after the last time, in the same studios and with some of the musicians who accompanied her as a child, when she took her first steps into her musical future. Here Angelina was simply fantastic and "unchained", a singer who has already sung on 2 different occasions at the Nobel Prizes and at just 17 years old.💛🧡❤
Liz wonderful reaction! Not sure how you managed to keep it together watching this. Some combination of the beautiful performance by KORK - the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, this arrangement that Angelina was almost certainly involved in (she thanked the conductor Rolf Lennart Stensø for trusting her), with her delicate performance in front of the family of the imprisoned Peace Prize laureate - makes this one of the most touching and emotional performances I've ever experienced.
I'm not a very religious person, but I swear Angelina is a gift from Heaven. God bless and protect this precious young woman and please help Narges endure her evil fate. We need Angelina and women like Narges now more than ever. Peace.
Not even Bobby Hadfield's 'Gold Standard' rendition of this song permeates me with the level of emotion laden penetration produced here in this tribute to Nargis Mohammadi, who is languishing in an Iranian prison for simply trying to increase women's rights. I'm sure it has special meaning for Angelina since her beloved grandmother and 'life's mentor', Mery Zamani, is of Iranian birth herself.
Liz, it will never stop. She will always be there for us and make us feel a love which a lot of us have never felt before in our lives. She sang this song for all of us, of course, but in particular straight to Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian mother of twins (a boy and a girl now going to school and living in France) who has been imprisoned by the Iranian government because of her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all, and to her two children and their father. Personally, I hope the authorities who imprisoned her listened to Angelina sing this song and will consider AFTER YEARS IN PRISON, to set her free. Not only would it be a blessing for the family to reunite but an indication that Iran may begin to realize what she has stood for has merit and perhaps it is time for Iran to loosen it's grip on women's right. Every time I listen to her performance for this concert I am gobsmacked by the utter beauty of her, her voice, the orchestra, this performance. I'm not sure our ears can feel more love than this. The recipient for this year's award was Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian dissident, now in an Iranian prison for her outspoken messages and activism for women's rights. Narges' two twin children spoke on her behalf at this event prior to Angelina's singing. They are Angelina's age and haven't seen their mother in years. I'm sure this was a very poignant moment for Angelina, who is one quarter Iranian, whose grandmother Mery is full Iranian, and we all know, those two are in love with each other--it's a beautiful thing to behold. I loved everything about this performance.

One of the most memorable experiences of my life was seeing John Gary perform live in Seattle, WA, when I was 20 years old. He had such a powerful and beautiful voice that filled the whole auditorium. During the break, he sat down on the edge of the stage and played his guitar, singing Unchained Melody with so much emotion and passion. It was a sublime moment that I shared with my wife, and I felt like we were the only ones in the room. At that time, I thought to myself; how could anyone top that performance, but 56 years later a 17-year-old Angelina Jordan just did.
Angelina Jordan's performance at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Norway in 2023 blew me away. She sang with such passion and emotion that I felt every word in my soul.
