Thanks for the help. I ran into a problem with the speedometer cable still being hooked up but everything else was pretty straight forward. Now to clean up 37 years of dirt from the vents and make it all look pretty.
I've been taking a lot of notes on how to take down these G bodys you have the answers to all my questions thanks I've searched quite a bit for a channel like yours that just gets down to doing it and actually showcasing how thanks mane

GP dashes are more tricky. The duct work is screwed to the dash and the screws need to be removed on the drivers side ducting behind the gauge bezel.
I have a 1973 Monte Carlo that needs a new heater core, I was told it would be easier to pull the whole dash! I do have a new dash pad on order coming this way this week!

Very good video. I like how simple you made it seem. This will come in handy both for when I am searching for a replacement for my cracked dash pad in the junk yard and for when I pull my dash.

Thanks, saved me some trouble finding the bolts on my 1987 LS Monte Carlo, however the screws near the windshield were exposed and not under the speaker covers, which look different on my 87.

The dash cap to cover cracks? They are find as long as you take the time to fit them properly.

Neicey that term stems from the mustang crowd since the Fox Body non-hatch or trunk cars are called notch backs. The 2 door Malibu only came one style regarding a trunk.

You need a non-cruise cable. 1 long cable.

Yes that section snapped in half changing from cold to hot one morning. I found the blend door lever on eBay for around $50. It's not the price but the labor involved I'm concerned with. I can do most work on these cars but never had to get into the dash. By the looks of it, I'm gonna have to pull the dash, because I don't see another way to get the lever piece out. I don't see any vids/web articles giving specifics, was just wondering if you had any experience regarding the issue.
I believe you can change the blend door from under the hood by removing the top of the heater box assembly as if you were changing the heater core.

Great vid. Question, the plastic (blend door you refer to in vid) broke. Not during a dash removal, just snapped one morning. Can this be replaced? Advice or any vids pertaining??
The little plastic tab broke off where the cable attached too? It can be replaced. I think I have an extra. I would have to do some digging for them. I pulled these cars the rest of the way apart several months ago.
How did you get the knob on the light switch off? Is there a clip?
Depends on the car. If a 78-81 Cutlass then there is a tab on the back you pull toward you as you pull the knob towards you.

It is a matter of just unscrewing it all from the one and installing it on the other.

Looking for electroluminescent lights repair/replacement for my 1984 Regal. These are the exterior lights on the sides of the rear seat next to the windows. They are partially working but I want to fix them. I'm having trouble finding replacement parts for my car so any help is appreciated. Thank you.

How many bolts hold the under dash upper ducting in. Is it possible to remove this stuff without removing the dash shell? Already got rid of the firewall stuff. I want to use a lighter and smaller aftermarket box at a later date.
Keith Cromer On an Olds dash you must remove the cluster and the plastic backing behind the cluster to remove any duct work. If your looking for weight reduction don't waste your time. Its a few pounds if that.

This might seem like a strange question, but I can't seem to find anyone who can answer it for me anywhere, in person or online, so maybe you might be able to shed some light on this for me. Will a G-Body dashboard fit an A-Body? I'm asking because I've been thinking about taking the dash from an '88 Cutlass and fitting it into an A-Body, but I would like to know if this is just a waste of my time.

I installed a dash cap, I'm a lil discouraged in the wiring department. I have an old alarm to remove and just want to clean up and run the wireing behind the dash board along with testing everything prier to Installing. Want to run everything like factory or better. Doesn't have to but easier otherwise you are undoing the harness from the back of the dash. More of a risk of damaging the dash going out or in trying to mess with the harness

how do you remove the gear selector cable and or speedometer cable to get cluster off?.
Gear selector cable is clipped to the steering column collar. Need to remove the lower vent panel under the column and you will see it.

iam wanting to swap dashes in my 1980 malibu with a different gbody dash with two speakers instead of the single one in the center of the dash because my dash is trashed will this work and what else is needed to do swap i know for an example my wiper switch is on the dash not the column is there any dash better then then the others also do you have any dashes that are in good shape that you would be willing to sell
To make things easy, swap in an 81-88 Monte dash with 2 outer speakers. Everything will mount up and work the same. You may just need to run new speaker wires. Easy. I do not have any dashes available.

You can pull the wood grain panels off the dash and potentially grab it. Which vent was it?

It just lifts out of place but from what I recall you have to fish it through a slot. Either way its not difficult.
I have a 82 gbody I put new lights in my dash but when I turn the dash lights on they still dont come on. Can you help me?
If all of your other dash lights work other than the gauges then you have an issue with the gauge circuit panel on the back. Torn copper film.
Have you worked on pontiac g bodies? I hear you mention monte carlo and regal, but not the grand prix. I'm wondering if they are the same. Do you need to remove the dash to swap ac box?
+Angel Perez All Gbodies are the same for the most part for dash removal. Yes you need to remove the dash or at least the glove box.
Forgot to mention...a GoPro camera is excellent for makin videos and hvn both hands free. If u hv n't already gotten one by now.
Quick question what would cause the chime when like the door or open with the key in the switch 2 chime all the tme n is it a fuse I can pull n which fuse
+Marion Walker It is a switch inside the column when the key is in the ignition. If you want it to stop you need to fix the column or remove the chime under the dash.

I have a 1980 Olds Cutlass diesel and it has an aftermarket remote car starter that I want to take out. I can see the wires running right up behind the gauges but I really dont want to take apart the whole dashboard :(
+Brian Williams Its must likely spliced into the ignition wiring that is up by the steering column or they spliced into the wires near the starter but doubt that. There is nothing they would splice into behind the dash.
Thanks for the reply! Im currently taking apart the gauge cluster from the dash. I have an Auto column shift and theres a wire connected to the steering column for the parking position. Im still having trouble pulling it out its not budging still and the speedo hose isn't the problem I dont think

The top cover comes off with a few screws for the regal and grand prix i believe.

Yes but do not pry on them or you you crack the dash. Remove the glove box to get to the passenger side and reach way up from under the dash to get the driver side.

How do you get the speaker covers off?
They snap down into place. DO NOT pry to get them off as you will crack the dash. Best way is to push them up from the underside by removing the glove box for the passenger side and and since you can't get the back side on the drivers side you can use a small hooking tool to get under the edge from the top.
