In an offense where Brunson and Randle are interchangeably 1 and 2, and with RJ having the size to defend both guards and forwards while being a good offensive 3rd option, it just makes sense to let Quickley be the man who can cook off the bench. I think the role of the 6th man is so much more important than people give it credit for. It's more important than the 4th or 5th starter. When the starters are out of the game, he is THE man on the court, and he helps keep our bench productive. That has a bigger impact than being the 3rd or 4th guy on offense where his touches will be a lot less limited.
Ideally in a balanced team, the 4th and 5th starters should be defense oriented as to not remove touches from the first three. We saw this the Kemba year where we had too many offensive cooks in the kitchen/ starting lineup with nobody wanting to do the defensive clean up. The one bright spot that year was our bench production which helped us close the gap against teams in all honesty we probably shouldn't have.

IQ is playing well coming off of the bench and I wouldn't change it. It's a weapon that has saved games for the Knicks. My problem is his contract. Why hasn't he been paid yet ?
Can't really mention Donte.... He hasn't really done much to deserve a start. No way I'm taking the hit defensively with Donte. I definitely would not mind QUICK starting. It's literally only him that I'd agree with taking Grimes spot. Maybe Grimes would be more assertive on the bench. Either way I'm fine with Grimes or quickly starting. Also, please we have to stop with the narrative that the Knicks didn't pay him. We all know as real Knicks fans quick is extremely valuable and what he produces probably can't be replaced so they'd love to pay him but can't agree on a price. Context it everything. I hate rj as a player so much and the mere fact that the Knicks can’t cut their losses with him brings me so much frustration. IQ should be a starter over him and idk how starting rj is even allowed

When grimes made 3 3's in a. Row in boston he very well could have been on his way to that type of game or close to it ...but guess what happened...THIBS BENCHED HIM RIGHT AFTER THAT! (And we wonder why hes so timid)
Im all for IQ starting but exactly who are you taking touches from?..because thats the main difference between grimes and IQ..one has the green light the other dont...
Grimes has a career 38% 3pt rate and one of the best perimeter defenders in the East.....at 23yrs old....i can tell you whats gonna happen if IQ gets into the starting 5...
Iq numbers go down....grimes numbers will go up....then youll be yelling to start grimes again
No one is eager to put in Donte. There’s no denying the offense looked better with him in the lineup when Grimes was out though… 🤷🏼♂️I’m a grimes fan, thought he would breakout this year. Look at the video archives. It just isn’t happening for him at the moment.
@KnicksNation the offense looked better because DD and JB has chemstry already. Brunson actively looks for DD unlike grimes who just gets inaccurate bailout passes at the end of the clock.
I tell you what else happened when DD came in..booker got hot. After grimes held him in check for a whole half..he gets taken out and all of sudden mans is cookin.
Listen im not DD hive OR grimes hive..im knicks hive. But i personally am putting the onus on thibs to start making sure grimes can get a play or two actually called for him to get him going. Hes a career 38% 3pt shooter..hes 23 years old and in a slump..lets empower him...
