      @Deepboy666 I guess chances of catching the virus are much much higher in Italy than somewhere in the middle of nowhere in the UK. Also, I live 40km away from Germany's first epicenter and yet there are 0 cases in my village and less than 50 cases in the next bigger city and since the virus is not airborne I guess you really have to be in contact with a person having it in order to contract it. I'm glad I stopped working on time (went on holidays on March 1) otherwise I would have 100% gotten it.

Sleep for a week dude, you deserve it. Awesome GCN vids. Between this and the other GCN challenges you step up to - you have my respect.

      Sam Leitch that’s bc the trainers have constant resistance while riding outside on your bike doesn’t. Unless you’re climbing uphill for 24 hours you’re not going to replicate the resistance.

      @brandonclark8736 4 роки тому

      Hours outside, free with the wind vs inside on the torture rack.
      I can't stand it.
      I've actually cancelled my Zwift because it was so depressing. Now I just use simple (non-game) training apps to get my workout in. If it's cold and I want to ride, then I'm bundling up and riding, even in the snow.
      This is so crazy. I hope he doesn't keep doing this stuff too often, because he'll crack eventually.

    Well done Hank, an epic challenge nailed. My anti boredom trick for long zwift sessions is audio books; if you are engaged enough by the story then the minutes don't matter. I also have a few minutes (3/4) off the bike every 90 minutes to stretch and move my body about. If I was trying for 24 hours then I would get off for 3 minutes every hour and start from the beginning when you are fresh, however my dodgy knees wouldn't take 24 hours even if the rest of me could (and it probably can't).

    Hank to his genitals : I’m gonna do a 24 hour indoor cycling on my road bike.
    Hank’s Genitals : *goodbye forever mate !*

    that's absolutely insane - I can't begin to imagine how brutal that was - physically its super tough but mentally its another level. 4 hour ride outside is nice weekend ride - 4 hours on Zwift is pain cave...so 24 hours! omg... chapeau

    Has Hank ever thought about starting his 24 hour challenges at dusk, so he rides through the dark first when he's fresher?

    • @leeoien3645
      @leeoien3645 4 роки тому +8

      I also thought that starting at noon was a bit off. Dusk or first thing in the morning would make the most sense to me!

    • @galenkehler
      @galenkehler 4 роки тому +14

      Noon to noon is honestly the best psychologically. Early morning starts mean you're getting really fatigued by the time nightfall hits, and a late start means you havent really covered that much ground by nightfall.
      Psychology is EVERYTHING in 24 racing.

    I was going to give thumbs up as this required an immense amount of mental toughness...and then whoop has been mentioned at the very end and it totally killed it for me.

    Check out Michael Knudsen’s event next week trying to break the world record on 24h indoor riding by reaching 1000km+ with an average of over 41,7 km/h. It is the 11-12 of april on zwift 💪. Nice riding Hank 👍👍🤯

    Topman Hank!! You well up there with the endurance greats now..... I can envisage a Race Across America for you..... think other GCN Members need to step up and show there metal/worth now... Ollie and Manon are excused!!!

      I agree, it'd be fun if GCN fielded a RAAM team and Si could let his hair get crazy and drive the Chevy van. And I'd cheer for them as the route is, literally, a quarter-mile from my apartment in Central Pennsylvania. But I wouldn't expect them to notice me as this is near the end and by the time the competitors get here, they are pretty much toast. Like a few years ago, Christoph didn't even take his eyes off the road when I stepped off the curb with cheers and applause outside the local McDonald's on Route 16. He probably thought, man, I don't have any time for that kook. And I was okay with it, he was in the zone and soon another victory would be his. And that whole RAAM deal is amazing, tho' I'd prefer that each day be treated as a personal stage, each start at the same time in the morn and close with the same bedroll time. I'm not a fan of riding on public roads without sleep.

    soooo happy to watch this, missing the cycling season so bad!!! (knew George when he was a junior in NYC and sponsored by Toga, and cried in the car on the way to work Sunday afternoon (opera matinee in NYC) when Lemond won the Tour first time. So glad we have access to so much old footage and enjoying the commentary!! Lance, black socks were always a better look for you, lololol

    600+ Km in 24 hours. EPIC. Well done, Sir.
    So, now what? The Paris-Brest-Paris? 1200 Km. Record is 42 hours 26 minutes.
    Next one is 2023. Got 3 years to train.

      In order to get in one must prove that one can ride 300k and 600k I think and within a set period of time from the event. I think Hank was to early for this to matter in registering :-(

    23:18 he also non intentionally completed burning off 10,000 calories in 24 hours challenge, which is kind of interesting. This video really shows you how hard it really is to burn off 10k cal in 24h.

    4:11 - That hole in the rear seat :O

    • @hbade
      @hbade 4 роки тому

      It's just an indent from having the rear seats down resting on the seatbelt clasp all the time. Common thing with Audis since the clasp never quite fits into the crevasse. Had it on my A3, have it on my M3 now, but little less so.
