That's how you make a "how to" video: perfect audio, perfect pace, no silly commentary, concise, just perfect in every way. Thank you sir!
Glad it helped!

Love this video. I used it to successfully replace the bearings and driveshaft. I replaced the tension rods while I was in there. Your video helped so much, especially the trick with the car jack. Thank you for saving me hundreds in labor costs!
You're welcome, my friend! I hope my other videos are just as useful!
Still saving our asses 3 years later, My top bearing did the same thing and i couldnt get the ring out. I appreciate you!
Great video, replace bearings and drive shaft, threw it back together and it worked! Use of the scissors jack was brilliant! Thank you for posting this.
Glad it helped
This is one of the most informative methods of changing bearings on the internet by far, thanks so much Phil.
Now I'm gonna look one more time and then tackle my Cabrio washing machine, actually the parts is not here yet, but as soon as they reached I will, my confidence is so so high.
Donald, if I can do it, anyone can! thanks for watching and commenting. Hope my other videos are just as useful to you!
This is the best tutorial I’ve found online by far! Thank you for taking the time to explain in detail
You're very welcome. Debbie!
This is such a well made video, incredibly detailed step-by-step procedure. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
Glad it helped you out, Pete!
Your video saved me. Thanks for taking the time to record it for the rest of us.
Extremely well done video! Your instructions were clear and concise. There wasn't a single unnecessary step and every step worked as described.
Glad you liked it, Geoff!!!!
I just replaced the bearings today by following this video. Step by step, everything went smooth and had a great outcome. Thanks for the info.
yOu're welcome
Have watched several videos pertaining to this repair, but your tutorial encouraged me to take on this task. Very well explained and details were precise and clear. Thank you Sir!
You are welcome! Hope you like my other DIY videos too, Leonard!
Man, the level of explanation and detail in this how-to is just AWESOME.
glad my video helped you out
This is an excellent tutorial. Great for a beginner, or someone like myself...a seasoned mechanic who is not familiar with the machine. This was a big help!
Glad it was helpful!
Holy Moly, Batman. Extremely well presented video. Concise and yet you fully explained every single step. I've got a Bravos XL model to do and will be looking for the alternate 'loosening' of the top that one of your commenters mentioned. I thought this job was going to be a nightmare, but your video is going to make the job easy... Keep up the excellent work. Really, really brilliant explanations at every step. The use of the scissors jack was especially ingenious. Thanks, Phil!
So glad my video helped you out, Dean! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
This video was perfect! We followed step by step with no problems! Thank you
You're welcome!
Very informative and step by step instructions. Thank you for taking the time to video, edit, and post!
Thanks for watching and commenting! Glad my video helped!
You are amazingly and pleasantly clear and concise with your instructions! Great job on the Clip!
Thanks, Bill! Hope you follow my other DIY vids as well, and they help you out in the future.
Solved my rotor issue. On my washer there is a heavy duty magnet which made it require more of a tug to get the rotor off.
Most of the work is done. Just waiting 24 hours for the glue to dry.
Great video!
I really enjoy doing projects, especially when my wife doesn’t think I’m up to it.
Many thanks!!!!!
excellent! top work!
I have the opposite problem, my wife and mother in law think I can work on any and everything 😅 it took 20yrs for me to make them understand, lm not a jack of all, I just play one ,if I say it's too boocoo ,believe me and move on 🤣
Thank you so much for sharing this howto. I have a Maytag Bravos MVWX600XW0 and this helped me decide whether to call someone or do it all myself. Removing the drum seems like the hardest part of the job.
You're welcome, Maulik!! thanks for taking the time to comment.
Getting the tub and driveshaft and bearings out is all a roll of the dice. My tub was stuck but I used a piece of 2 X 4 cut to fit inside the drum and the scissor jack from my truck and it came right out. The driveshaft was hard to get out as well but I squirted it with PB Blaster penetrating oil and that helped. Really, taking it all apart was the hardest part.
Great instructional video laying out all the steps and each tool needed along the way. I've got the part ordered from Amazon and I'm just waiting for it to show up.
Let me know how it worked out
Phil thank you so much for sharing this video. Because of you I’ve successfully fixed my washer following your video and saved at least $1000. I really appreciate your help! She’s running so quiet!:)))
Thank you so much for this great comment, Brad! Also, thank you so much for subscribing to my channel. I hope my other videos will help you out in the future.
Video explained everything perfectly. Got the machine fixed and it’s good as new. Thank you!
You're welcome, Tyler!
Great how-to video. Made me feel confident enough to pull my washer apart and I'm not even sure what is wrong with it.
Glad it helped
I am an appliance tech and business owner and have done many of these. Your video is excellent
Thanks, Alex!!!! That really means a lot to me! Please share my video with as many people in your business as you can. I love the views! Thanks again!
Thanks for the tutorial. I just finished fixing mine. No more 'jet engines' in my basement.
Honestly, I could have just bought a new machine, it's not beyond my budget. I just like the feeling of triumph when I fix my own stuff.
Glad it helped
This is the absolute best video for this repair.
Thank you so much for saying that! I don't get a whole lot of hits on this, but I do know it has helped a lot of people, and that's what gives me the satisfaction to keep doing this. Thanks again, and I hope you like my other videos as well.
Count me among the many thankful! Using your video, the job was a breeze (other than getting the tub out, that was a sonofab****!).
ya. it wasn't fun!
Great step by step video most informative I’ve seen Thanks
Glad to help, Fred!
Absolutely 'excellent' presentation of "how-to"!
Fantastic video. I enjoyed watching it. I also decided to not pursue this route due to old age of the machine. So thank you for making it easy to make this decision by watching your video.
it definitely took quite a bit of effort.
Great video! I just used the kit on the link and my washing machine works like new!! Thank you!
You're welcome, Arthur!
Excellent instructional video. Thank you, Phil.
You’re welcome,!
As a seasoned machine repairman... The Video streamlined the repair. Knowing in advance what to look for, and tear-down order was an Immense help! First time doing this and completed in 1 1/2 hours... getting tools together, tear-down and assembly. Your video was spot on except for driving shaft and bearings out. That was somewhat longer than your video showed, which caused me to wonder if I missed something..(Laughed at self). But Great Video and thank you for sharing!
You're welcome!
I had some trouble getting the driveshaft out but it's because I did't have a big enough hammer but once I got it out everything fell into place.
Perfect!
Very clear instructions. Especially the callout titles.
Saved me hundreds of dollars! Bought the $54 kit in Amazon instead of the $120 just for the appliance guy to show up plus cost and labor. Took me 4 evenings because I had some differences and additional troubles I'll describe to help the next person:
1. My kid's licking tabs were different and additionally required unscrewing a 1/4" hex from the top of a green hinge on the back so the lid can be pulled forward and then the locking tabs pushed.
2. Same problem where I had to use a car jack and block of wood.
3. The nut on the bottom of the drive shaft was completely seized so I had to destroy it with a grinder.
4. Drive shaft was stuck and wouldn't come out with my 1 lb hammer. Don't waste your time people and just get a 4 lb hammer and it does the job.
5. Couldn't get the new drive shaft in, seemed like it was getting caught on the upper bearing and didn't want to destroy it by hammering it. Splintered my wood block trying to use that to hammer it. Eventually found out my car floor jack's handle fit perfectly over the splines onto the thick flat part, and hammered that instead where it eventually seated itself.
6. Don't forget to hook the drain back up before you run it for the first time! Oops.
Yep.... not easy sometimes, but worth the time to save a lot of money!
Excellent diy! It's my 2nd time using your video. Next time I'll have to replace the shaft as well (the stainless sleeve is grooved).
Makes my day knowing that my video helped you out twice!
Excellent video! So incredibly helpful - thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, did everything you showed on the video turned out great!
THAT'S FANTASTIC, JAMES!!! I love this sort of feedback. I hope my other videos can help you out as well in the future. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Very good job. Detailed explanation.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! This tutorial turned a nightmare in to a dream! 2.5 hours soup to nuts, including gathering all the tools
I am so glad my video helped you out! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
I used a bottle jack instead of scissor jack. Other than that I used my impact drill to take it apart and back together. This video is very good.
excellent
Phil I have cannot remember when I first sub’d to you but I have the same washer and developed a leak and need this to learn how to take it apart, thank you!
You made my day with this comment, Captain!
?from NY ? Did you sell as Honda Nighthawk - very nice machine
Great Video a few call outs when pulling tub out washer I used the scissor jack method from another video. But it still required me to pount with a hammer on the large metal gear for a while don't be to afraid of hitting it hard and use the metal rod from the bearing kit. Lifting the washer up and down a lot requires space I pulled mine into the garage. This project took me about 5 hrs. It would have been less if I was not afraid of breaking tub by hitting gear really hard to get it out. This is the really hard part but cut wood to 22.5 inches and car sizzor jack made it a whole lot easier. The bearing too is a must to use. Clean every part you take out to make machine smell better.. Good luck.
Ya.... this is a lengthy project for sure.... however, it definitely saves money doing it yourself.
That was very informative. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Straight to the point
Indeed! I hope all my videos are like this! That's my goal. Thank you for the comment
Thanks for Great video! The only thing I would add would be to make sure the bearings are seated all the way or you will be taking the shaft and seal apart again or the cap for the agitator will not seat properly. I used a small bottle jack which made it easy but any port in a storm.
Great tip! thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Very informative! Thank you!
You're welcome
Thanks for the video. It was very helpful .
Glad it was helpful!
THANK YOU!! Much needed!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for this well presented and thorough demonstration. It was just what I needed.
Glad it was helpful, Sean!
Helped me out enough to let me know I'm not doing this. Thank you
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, my friend!
Phil desde México un saludo y felicitaciones explicas muy claro todo el proceso.
I will have to Google translate this and get back to you
Great Job, only thing i found different was the top Lid on mine. Removed two 1/4 inch screws and slide top forward to swing up.
Glad my video helped you out, Jeff! Hope you like my other ones too.
Thank you for your wisdom.
Thanks for watching!
Nice video. Will be replacing mine for the second time in about 5 years. HE POS. Needed a refresher video to repair. New washers are so expensive. Just as much as HE whick I won't be buying next time around.
Thanks for watching and commenting, Mike! These appliances keep getting junkier by the year.
Should the spacer tube have any play in it after doing the press operation on the bearings?
Do you have any recommendations on removing that top bearing piece mine did the same thing :(
Followed this video and it was great. Only one gotcha. In my case the washer between the sleeve and the bearing on the stattor side wasn’t tight enough in the diameter. Not sure why but after 3 attempts trying to get the shaft through (the washer just jumped around preventing the shaft to go through) we instant glued the washer to the sleeve to prevent that and bingo it worked. The glue held it just long enough to keep everything aligned.
Great video...I'm going to take a crack at repairing mine now...
You can do it!
great video
took 2 attempts at seating the bearings
first attempt i may have not set bearings deep enough using the puller and the new drive shaft did not want to fit without some tapping
was difficult to turn driveshaft so i knocked out driveshat reseated new bearings and used the original driveshaft which fit perfectly
could have been the new driveshaft was not exact size as original
washer work’s great
definitely not the easiest job to do.
Appreciate this video
So glad! Hope you like my other DIY vids as well!
Awesome video
Thanks!
Excellent video - this helped immensely. One thing I would caution - when inserting the rubber seal, be very careful to properly seat and keep the spring in place. I nearly ruined the spring as the seal was very tight.
Great tip!
Muy buenos los vídeos gracias
You're welcome!
Thanks for the detailed video. If the unit is just squeaky when moving, but won't run at high RPM (get UL code but have passed all other diagnostics and reset), is there reason to suspect bearings?
beats me. this one was leaking all over the floor and sounded like shot bearings.
@@PhilCrockett thanks for the response. I added some temporary lubrication and it is better/working for now. Probably need to disassemble and add quality lubrication like silicon grease or motor oil. Not sure, but didn't have the resources to do all the procedures illustrated.
Dang you're a patient man.
Not really.........
I clicked the amazon link and purchased the, OCTOPUS AP5325033 & AH3503307 W10435274 Bearings Washer Tool Kit. It didn't come with a thrust washer but instead a thrust bearing for the lower tub bearing install. Please note that the upper and lower bearing presses are not labeled, but they are different. The top has a longer press than than bottom. I watched the AppliancePartsPros video to get more information on this repair and it certainly looked like they used the wrong bearing press on top. Only 4-5 threads were showing on the bottom of the press rod. I bent the spacer tube and bottom bearing washer. I couldn't install the drive shaft, so be very careful. I simply used my OEM spacer tube and washer and the drive shaft inserted perfectly. The unit needs to seal overnight so I'll check back in after a few operational checks. Thanks again.
Let me know how it worked out.
Thank you sir got it in. I guess im lucky the top bearing came out with the shaft
Yeah, you are super lucky! That top bearing is a pain in the butt! So glad my video helps you out, my friend!
@@PhilCrockett once i got the bottom bearing out i used the old drive shaft inserted in the bottom of the tub and hit it with a hammer and the top bearing popped out easy. My top bearing was in tact though if its in pieces this might not work well.
Thanks for the video. I would like to know if this replacement would probably fix the issue I’m having with my machine, it is the same model. It is giving the message UL during the spin. I already tried to check if there are some clothes stuck outside the barrel and it is clean.
Not sure if this was the same problem as yours. The problem with this machine was the bearings were rotted away and there was water leaking out on the floor
Hello, did you end up finding the problem for the ul code? I am experiencing the ul code and have water leaking on the floor
Absolutely wonderful teaching Vid-! Clear & precise! Excellent Teacher!
Since my washer smells like metal burning whn n use, as they're obviously grinding down 2 bear metals, unfortunately, I think I may hav 2 pay exorbitant costs 4 repairs, or go buy a whole new one (vry close 2 wht repairs will be)...Curses...
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! But, had to chuckle about the use of "simply" remove the wash plate😂. Sometimes, that is the hardest part of this job. You can either make a couple hand tools to bend under the wash plate or buy a pair of trampoline spring stretchers.
Interesting. Apparently this is an issue with other folks as well. Someone suggested using a shoestring to get underneath the flange to help pull it out. I did not have any issues with the removal of the wash plate. This is why it's important to have comments. Thanks for commenting and watching the video as well
@PhilCrockett Thanks for the response. I work at an appliance parts store and removing the washplate is a complaint from most service techs. Some use air bags, strings or just break off the washplate and replace it. Personally, I like to keep plenty of different style agitators. Sometimes, you can swap out the washplate style with a full size agitator. I also always put some anti seize on anything I can.
Hi,... Thanks for the video. I have the tools from a previous repair and kit... Can you recommend a bearing and seal kit only? Thanks.
It's been a while since I've done this. Unfortunately I do not have any advice for you or recommendations. This will take some research online. I find that forums are a good resource
Great video. Do I have to have a washer tool or is there another method?
You definitely need that tool.
This is a very good video...thanks so much for this...I am ready to do this job now...you made it look very easy....I hope mine is the same as yours. Thanks.....Al Sautner
You can do it! Let me know how it went.
@@PhilCrockett Hi Phil....I am done...! It took me about 3 hours. I had to clean up everything. The job went very well. The only thing that gave me trouble was the tub would not come out. Had to go out and buy a bottle jack. After that it was fine. The washer looks new now. I did go out and buy a new one. I am going to give this one to my kids. They can always use a rebuilt washer. It was fun doing it and I did not need any instructions. After watching you 3 times I was ready. The parts I got cost about 59,00 for everything. It also came with the tools to remove and install the bearings. Thanks for all your help...! Al
THAT'S GREAT, AL! Thanks for taking the time to let me know. I love feedback like this. It's good to know my video helped you out!
Great video! Curious if my particular washer model would be a similar job. GE Deep Fill top load…?
Not sure…. This was my buddy’s machine
Genius with jack...NOICE.
Thanks! learned it from another YT video. can't take credit for such genius!
When I knocked out bottom bearing I noticed the cylindrical shaft that the bearing sits has a small piece that’s cracked off. Will this still seal?
hard to say without seeing it, but an abundance of epoxy might be your best bet.
Thanks for the video! I have a question for you. My bearing is going and getting louder. Now I have a UL (unbalanced load) alarm. Could a bad bearing cause the UL alarm? I'm thinking that's also do to the bearing going but want your opinion on this. Thanks!! Pete
I have no idea, Pete. Diagnosing via texting is not my thing. I would go to a forum and search. I love forums, I've learned a lot from them. As far as the balancing problem, there might be too many variables to consider. I'm not a professional appliance repairman. I only post videos on DIY that I absolutely know how to do. I can't help with diagnosing this. Let me know what you find out, and we can all learn from each other.
yes and no. my washer worked that bottom 1/4 inch hex bolt out. tub then wasn't very secure. as a result I got UL. first thought it was a problem I had a year ago: clothing stuck between tube wall (remove top clip as described in this video and look inside). tis time it was bearings: after the bottom bolt had been gone for an unknown amount of time, the bottom bearing was trashed.
First off thank you for making this video. I have one question Should my rooter be hard to turn by hand once I install the top gasket or should it still turn freely? I have my washer apart waiting on your comment. Thanks
The rotor was a bit hard to turn.
Hey Jimmy Lee, I know this msg is not for me but I just wanted to let you know that it's a magnetic force so it will kinda stiff because they're no electricity there to move them freely...just saying.
I have the same issue with the top bearing.Do you have any videos on how you made the tool to remove the top bearing?
The tool I made was a last minute decision. Most people will not have this problem. However, you can actually purchase a bearing puller on the Internet. Indeed, this is a very difficult situation. The tool I made was constructed from a garage door spring ring and a bolt, a piece of pipe, and a nut. It's complicated.
Yo, Phil! You did a FINE job and that was a fine kit but when 'Old Squawky' gives it up it'll be time for Sweetums to go pick one out and get someone to bring it and get the old one. Probably Lowes. That thing sqawked and honked since it was turned on. The seller said it was the seal but I thought a seal barked. Different seal. I guess. Thanks, Buddy! Go fish, do not pass go and do not collect $200.00 and have a Jesus weekend! GBWYall
Ah ya! These washers are a lot harder to work on than dryers. I have a dryer video coming out at some point. Anyways........ I ALWAYS look forward to hearing from u. Keep in touch my brother!
Phil, the replacement shaft I got has noticeable “slop” against the original hubs, which are still nice and tight against the original rusted out shaft. Think that’ll be a problem during operation?
gosh.... idk. there's only one way to find out. let me know. maybe it will help someone else
@@PhilCrockett four months later and it’s still spinning. I got my money’s worth out of the fix on a 10 year old washer, but would definitely recommend the OEM replacement shaft.
Thanks for the detailed video. I attempted this repair but now I'm seeing F:50 error message and washer doesn't seem to spin. I can move drum and agitator by hand so I don't think it's seized. I'm thinking maybe something wasn't plugged back in properly?
I figured it out. The connector shown at 10:30 looked like it was plugged in but one of the legs was not. Be careful when plugging this back in that all three terminals are connected.
glad you got it working!
Do you know if this kit will work with the whirlpool bravos XL steam?
not sure.... sorry
What is the purpose of the weep hole? This is the first video I’ve seen that instructed to clean it out
it's kind of like a small drain hole.
Great job on the video first of all. Next I'm having trouble finding a bearing kit for my Maytag Bravos XL model MVWB835DW2 any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
I really don't know......
no thats unbalanced load , the most likely issue is the suspension rods theres 4 holding in the inner tubreplace one at a time so the tub stays were it should very easy fix 10 mins even for a beginner only half hour or less.
Excellent video !😊
Thanks!
I am having the same issue with the bottom bearing ring stuck/ what other methods can i use to get this ring out?
there are various styles of bearing pullers you can buy. I feel your pain! I almost gave up on this one. Visit your local appliance repair store and pick their brains. Have them show you what they use.
The step with the adhesive on the seal after it is installed is missing on all other videos. This will be my third go around with this washer in the 10 years we have had it. I'm pretty confident that this is the missing step that will fix it long term this time. Thank you.
Glad my video could help you out
im mid process here. got the new shaft in but when i check if it spins it seems like it has sticky spots and does not spin smoothly. Is that going to burn the motor or work itself out over time. Any suggestions or tips?
seems like it sorted itself out once i bolted everything together. spins smooth and easy
Excellent! Glad to hear it!
Thanks
You're welcome
I have Maytag MVWB955FC1 washer would it be the same process?
I'm not sure. Haven't worked on one of those. might get an explosion diagram to see.
No grease on the bearing first at 7:50?
I’m following this vid and another and the other vide they grease up the outer surface of the top and bottom bearings before pressing them together in place.
interesting. I do know the seal that is filled with grease acts as a dispenser to the bering.
Bearings are suppose to be pre lubed and sealed. Should has rs after bearing number
I did the install and did an empty test run. No leaks but when clothes are inside it leaks abit from the bottom ??
As far as I know, the only real good seal is from the epoxy glue
A few notes after doing this:
not all lids open this way: I had to remove two screws in the rear and slide it forward.
The kit I bought did not come with the bearing seat wrench. I tried making one, I tried renting one, but in the end, the only thing that worked for me was a hammer and a scrape 2x4.
The Drum took forever to get out. PB penitraiting oil helps, but let it soak. I also used the car jack BUT I had to ad a strap to the board and rachet it to the ceiling in order to finally getit out.
I had to put the bearings in and take them back out several times till I managed to get them in straight.
I also had to hit the drive shaft in order to get that to seat. Initally, it was too high.
Stripped one screw at the begining, but managed to get it out with pliers. One of the bolts on the bottom snaped off from over tighting it, but when all was said and done, it worked. Thank you for posting this very informative video.
It didn't go ez for me either......due to that bearing ring getting stuck.
Hi Phil, again. I got my parts today and started in replacing the bearings. I removed the basket and discovered there is trapped water inside of it. Have know idea how it got in there but that has to be a problem. Wondering what your thought is on that. Yes, the bearings are shot but I'm thinking the trapped water in the basket could be causing the UL (unbalanced load) alarm. I could drill holes and get it out and maybe fill the holes with silicone but maybe it will just go back in. Funny thing is no matter how I tip and hold the basket the water doesn't drip out anywhere. Looking for some advice. But the video you have here rocks and is the ticket for the bearings. Thanks so much. Maybe time to get a new basket?
I haven't had that problem before. hmmmmm..... maybe use a forum to see if someone else has had that.
The fluid in the basket is for balance as the tub load shifts
thanks for the tip!
@@Harveje man I have learned so much from you guys just reading here.
@@Harveje yes. but if it is significantly more, check drain motor and port in tub.
Phill, called Octopus and they don't have part's for my washer. Can't find a website that can help me.
Thanks again.
I wonder if there's an issue because Sears went out of business. hmmmm?🤔
Hopefully someone can answer. I'm going to be doing my bearing once it arrives. But is there suppose to be water INSIDE the drum ? I pulled the drum out and there is a good amount of water inside of it sloshing around
my drum has water in it too. Not much but it sloshes around. It's been that way for years and doesn't seem to affect the performance.
It is weird. I actually wondered if it came that way. Must be a little leak. I figure you could drill a little hole in plastic and drain it then patch it up with epoxy seal. But I figure water will get back in. Let it ride.
I'm not sure what the problem is with that
the tub i am refering to is the basket in my first commint
ok
Alright I just saved myself, $150 buuuucks!
