Longlegs Review: Does It Live Up To The Hype?
Вставка

- Osgood Perkins, the son of the iconic Psycho star Anthony Perkins, has crafted one of the darkest, most nihilistic horror movies I’ve seen in years. A fellow critic turned to me as the credits rolled as asked me, “dude, did we just see a classic?” While it’s too early to say, I nevertheless found myself deeply shaken by this nightmarish thriller.

Seeing Nicholas Cage go from a demented revenge driven husband to a quiet reserved janitor fighter to a goofy interpretation of Dracula to a hideous insane killer just shows his insane acting skill
He’s been on a roll lately. Dream Scenario, Reinfield, now Longlegs. He’s doing a speed run across all the genres and is nailing it so well in every role. He’s so underrated
@@rari2943 have you seen Mandy and color out of space? Two of the best movies ever made literally
@@crimsonngb32 no I don’t think I’ve heard of those, I’ll definitely check them out though.
@@rari2943 the first one Mandy is what I was referring to in the comment about the demented husband
@@crimsonngb32 ah ok. I was wondering so I’ll check it out
The fact that you used a photo of gary glitter to describe Nicholas Cage's character lets me know how f*cuked up he'll be
I agree! Gary Glitter was a pedo creep.
Too compare anything to gary glitter is actually quite a low blow for the movie as that sick person should just be forgotten.
He started his career specializing in f’ed up characters, and then he went mainstream. I’m glad he’s returning to the kind of parts he played so well in his youth.
Horror movie staring a Jimmy Saville styled character would be some scary shit
@@superfurryfox1 Hows about that then never mind jim will fix it jimmy here to fix you up real good
Longlegs, Maxxxine, and Nosferatu all in the same year, a good time for horror fans.
And a Quiet Place Day One which is not really horror but I heard it has a lot of jump scare moments
Alien: Romulus
Terrifier 3 is my most anticipated grindhouse horror
maxxine is not horror lool.
Quiet place day one was ass 😂@@Model_Roe
Thank you for not spoiling this and respecting fans need to see it for themselves.
I thought this was going to be a monster movie about a giant spider.
same xD
No that’s Sting
I thought it was gonna be a giraffe...
Thats Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal
I thought it was going to be about a man sowing people together to make a spider
This and Robert Eggers Nosferatu are the two films I'm looking forward to, longlegs looks like it'll be more unnerving.
Have you seen the trailer for Cuckoo??? Looks really really solid
@@furleysbrain just watched it now, you're right.
Mandy? Or Color out of Space ..highly recommend both..✌️
@@Monz805 color out of space is an inferior film as it does not include cheddar goblin 😎🤣
Assferatu
These comments are wild. Either people loved it, or they aggressively, AGGRESSIVELY, hated it. It may not have been the scariest movie I’ve ever seen but I liked how dark the themes were and it kept me interested the whole time. Overall I have to say I really liked this one.
Nic’s voice from the trailer sent a chill down my spine

I thought it was ridiculous and stupid. Why would the FBI not have it on file that the same woman from “the church” visited with a doll before every family was killed?? Did they just not do their due diligence? Bc that sorta clue is usually glaring esp if the woman from the church is the main character’s mother. What a stupid movie. If this is the new bar for serial killer movies we need to step it tf up.
A strange nun arrives at your daughter's birthday party and presents a master crafted super creepy doll in their likeness saying that they have "won" it in a contest. Totally acceptable and believable.
A 3-decade killing spree highly wanted serial killer is suddenly IN YOUR HOUSE at night! You, an FBI agent, contact no one, and decide to go to sleep after not finding him there. Right.
Just so many functional inconsistencies and irrationalities with this movie.
Thank you both - I also thought this was so dumb in so many ways.
Not to mention the fact that instead of crafting an interesting, complex explanation of how the killer was able to pull off the murders without leaving a trace, they just leave you with, “it was magic.” Fucking lazy. There was so much I liked about this movie but that explanation along with some of the plotholes you both mentioned (in addition to others) took a lot away from it for me.
I can't wait to see this movie.
This movie might give me nightmares and I cannot wait!
Super underwhelmed by the movie. It wasn’t weird enough, scary enough, or gory enough. The previews had me very hyped too. It wasn’t by any means terrible but it wasn’t amazing either.
You have me starving for this movie when I was already drooling with anticipation. How dare. (Great job)
I have no idea how you enjoyed this so much, I was so utterly disappointed in this movie. I love me a slow burn, but by the half way point I was hoping I could just fall asleep so as to not irritate my girlfriend with how bored I was. The final act was so goddamn dumb that I can't recommend this movie to anyone.
100% same. idk why all these people are loving it
@@ren.sparks I was so mad I made a Rotten Tomatoes account lol
@@charlespeter5610 VALID. I may need to do that as well lol
Yep. Very True. I was with my girlfriend too and we both didn't like none of it. It wasn't scary, it's just bad, the ending was very predictable because of how they presented it and they also did the ending dirty, it should've ended a lot longer.

Delighted I watched this now. I have been looking forward to this film since I first heard about it and I'm glad that such positive things were said about it.
Maika owns the horror genre. I have faith that above all: she will deliver. The cast is refined and smart, so I will go into this excited but cautious. Can’t wait.
Agree 💯 I think Mia Goth and Maika Monroe are the new scream queens of the 2020s taking the throne from Neve Campbell and Jennifer Love Hewitt

Yes the sound design in the actual movie is a real standout, there are some harrowing scenes. Screaming especially, the sound is tuned perfectly to where it feels like my head was gonna blow up LOL
I can’t wait!!! Looks fantastic and I’m a huge fan of Seven & Silence of the Lambs.
There are ppl who seen it at a early screen saying that the movie is really good but also disturbing
I'm a bit worried that long legs might not be a serial killer he might be an entity..... You don't actually see him kill anybody in the trailers....

Last time I got so hyped was before A night with the devil, which was a huge disappointment imo. Hope longlegs delivers.
Yeah that one kind of sucked.
Agreed. I kept waiting to be scared and never really got that feeling. I guess people are easier frightened nowadays.

Happy 4th Of July JOBLO Horror.
The film features original music composed by ZILGI (believed, but not confirmed to be a pseudonym for Elvis Perkins who previously scored The Blackcoat’s Daughter and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House).
Got to see an early screening of this on 35 mm in a packed theater. Quite the experience
What is the gore level? I’m good with “disturbing” imagery etc, blood, but I’m not into like seeing intestines dangling outside a body. Eg I don’t watch movies like Saw, Hostel or Terrifier.

Thank you i love horror movies but most that is coming out these days are not good. Hope this is worth it
Loved Mandy...and Color out of Space...cant wait for this✌️
Thanks for the info bro can’t wait to see it next week
The fact kids are getting murdered in this movie makes it terrifying right there without even seeing it yet. I’m so hype.
😂
The same thing they're giving Terrorizer grief over possibly doing. Wow.
You hyped about seeing kids die?
Pretty sure they are happy in the sense that something different will happen. Traditionally kids in movies when out in peril usually get out fine and unfazed. So it’s hard for the audience to grasp any sort of belief in the peril when we always know they’ll be fine. It’s nice long legs will be switching it up. Most studious nowadays will never green light something if a kid dies in the movie. I’m just excited because it’s different and we could see something we don’t always see
@@artworkkitchen7056 this is only true if you watch mainstream horror movies and not even really then. Indie horror kids are never safe.
Osgood is a master at crafting atmospheric and creepy horror films that are slow burns that relentlessly move towards disturbing climaxes.
Oh. Osgood's brother was the composer for I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. A movie with an unusual and haunting score.
Visually it has the looks of 'Alan Wake 2.' & Lee is a version of Saga Anderson from the game. Can't wait to watch when it reaches to this shore.
Yeah I definitely see the resemblance and I love it.
This is exactly what I was thinking. Especially when the main character is standing at the evidence wall/board, it reminds me of Saga's headspace thingy.
Yes the lighting especially In the FBI office was very Alan wake 2
Ok here's my question. I love crime movies (prisoners, etc), I'm ok with horror movies. Should I watch it?
Dont want to jinx it but i really think this is going to be something else
While I found the concept original, and the tone and performances effective, the script left a lot to be desired. I’d give it a five out of ten stars. It’s not terrible, but it doesn’t live up to the hype.
You forgot to mention Watcher. I used to have such a huge crush on Alicia Witt back in the day. I’m excited to see her again. I really hope this film abcs MaXXXine turn around what has been a horrible year for horror so far.
I had a midnight show of this movie last night and I tell you what when I entered the hall, an ominous, uneasy feeling struck me and the whole movie was just so ominous and eerie. I love it.
I’m a huge horror buff and I haven’t been this excited for a horror film in a long time. My only concern is I was excited for Late Night With The Devil as well and the reviews were glowing but it left me disappointed. I got caught up in that hype too.
Same with this movie 😢
I have been trying to find a summary of the plot of this movie for a bit now, and while I respect you not getting into spoilers, I really wish you did!
I just don't care about movies anymore, and am more intrigued by novel ideas and concepts, which is why I am trying to find out what this movie brings to the table.
Since I keep stumbling over this channel when out looking for things that catch my fancy, it's only fair that I subscribe!
If I leave a theater very unsettled after what I watched, even days later...
*job very well done☠️😵💫👏*
When I heard it compared to silence of the lambs it got my attention.
I saw a pre-release screening and I liked it, but it didn't blow me away. Maybe 7/10? It's very creepy and has some great performances. On the other hand, it sets up an intriguing mystery which felt largely unresolved by the time the movie ended. There are several big twists which you may or may not see coming, but I kept waiting for some kind of "a-ha!" moment where the pieces came together and I felt a tiny bit cheated at the end.
This is exactly how I felt, it feels like they spent the first half of the movie setting up all kinds of plot threads to connect and then they tie them all together lazily and loosely and outside of the big twist alot of it feels cobbled together in the last chapter.
The master of props on this movie is 25 years old! Impressive
I should have known better than to watch a review before seeing it. Now I know that there is an unexpected shift in the movie that would have been more exciting if I werent expecting it.
Last time I was this hyped for a horror movie was after seeing the first red band trailer for evil dead a few years back.
Oh damn, I'm so excited to see this - I don't remember the last film I felt so pumped for!
Nick Cage is unstoppable these days!
I need to see that interrogation scene hope someone puts it out
I'm so excited to see this. Happy 4th 🇺🇸
People need to manage expectations
The hipster film of the summer. You're not cool unless you talk about how much you want to see Longlegs.
I've seen a lot of non hipsters online wanting to see it including myself there is a lot of buzz around this movie and everybody across all demographics seem pretty excited to watch it and that's all to do with their genius marketing this movie randomly popped up on my UA-cam feed with the creepy ass thumbnails lol I was too scared to click because of how creepy the thumbnail looked but the marketing was genius I think that's why everybody wants to see it
lol what? I can’t see “hipsters” being this into a horror movie

@eddysandland58 IT Follows was a masterpiece and her portrayal of that character was just enraptured, Ive thought.
Well: she is in a film called 'Villains', which is on Netflix. Great movie.
I have a few movies I've not seen by her, but she was great in that; with Kyra Sedgewick (also great) and Alexander Skarsgaård (whom I rate also)

Hi, thank you for your review. I really want to see this movie as I am a fan of horror movies. I can handle unsettling I can handle jump scares etc. love silence of the lambs. My question is about the level of gore. I am not a fan of Saw gore or Hostle gore or animal torture. ( like where your seeing an animal suffer) . Are you able to tell me what I can expect in that regard? Thanks so much.
There is a little gore but it’s very tame overall.
In sorry but what is the horror movie in the middle of this lineup?
I don't know who cut the trailer(s) but you can tell they actually cared n didn't reveal too much..either that or they didn't know how to cut it n hoped for the best 😂. Either way I'm excited.
I also can’t wait for Cuckoo! I’m seeing Longlegs on Thursday.
Great movie. Wife and I went and saw it last night and we both enjoyed it a lot. Get out to see it soon in the theater.
Excited for Longlegs this weekend but why has there been so little love for Late Night with the Devil this year? It's definitely been the best horror of the year so far.
So excited for this one!
last horror/psycho thriller films that made me hard were Hereditary and Midsommar from Ari Aster and I hope this film lives up to such level of horror
It wasn't what I expected. The scariest parts were actually included in the trailer.
Civil war and this were my most anticipated this year. Maxxxine was a bit of a disappointment
Still holding out hope for Maxxxine. I am a huge Ti West fan. Longlegs looks right up my alley. Maika Monroe is fantastic and love atmospheric horror. Civil War was great and in my top 5 this year

Well sold
I’m so excited for this film it looks insane and your review just made me buy a ticket for Friday! Quick question, are you able to say if this film has any heavy scenes of animal cruelty? Asking because of the pet carrier and cat. I can handle heavy gore and humans getting hurt in horror films 😂 but animals is another story. I stop watching if I see animals get hurt, it’s just too much. Just a heads up on that part would be very much appreciated 🙏
no animals get hurt at any point
@@ren.sparksthere’s a decapitated cow…but you don’t see it happen.

Good luck.
It was really good. However. There are a few elements of the movie I wish they would have stuck to. For one, they never should have shown longleg's full face. Because when they do, he becomes more silly than scary, especially because you never actually see him commit any acts of of violence in the movie.
Excellent review.
I gave it a 7/10. Very unnerving but not as scary as some people hyped. Very good plot but too many plot holes or forgotten elements for my liking. Also laughed at the scene where the flashed ball pythons under a red light knowing they were just chilling there as someone put a red light over them but I think that's just because I own a few and my first one will stare at me and pout if I don't take her out enough lol
Yes just you. Normal people don’t just live with and stare at snakes.
@@matrix_comix But its even with bugs. I very much dislike bugs but cant help but laugh when they're put into sequences when they're literally just chilling there doing their own thing but putting a red light over it and flashing it fast suddenly making it menacing. Like they're just minding their business and then we take the clip and be like 'look at this horrifying thing' but its just a random Tuesday for the spider. Also laughed because they put rattle snake sounds over ball pythons, one of the friendliest most docile snakes that don't strike (constrict instead, though not even the largest ones can kill an adult even around the neck)) or have venom, let alone a rattle
July 12th can’t come fast enough, I can’t wait. Hanging like a junkie needing a fix lol
I am interested in the plot yes, but I am mainly seeing it to see Nicolas Cage!
It probably won't happen but Monroe, Cage and Witt deserve Oscar nominations for their performances in this.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, as a designer & aspiring director myself, I appreciate many aspects of this movie.
Let’s calm down with comparing its success or even anything with seven and silence of the lambs which are two of the best films ever created
one of them is. Seven doesn't quite make the cut for greatest movies of all time but definitely makes the cut for one of the most disturbing.
My worry is that its rated 15 in the UK. So was Hereditary, but I personally didn’t find that scary. My fear is it won’t be as shocking as horror enthusiasts would hope. Slow burns need to be worth the wait.
I’ve had pretty tempered expectations as far as gore goes or explicit material goes. because it’s pg-13 here in the US.

I don't think I'm gonna watch it not because I don't think it'll be gas because I know it will be it just looks so disturbing and unsettling and everybody who's watched it is giving it rave reviews but is saying it's disturbing
Glad to see a very positive review and that it didn’t disappoint! 🎉🎉🎉 good horror movies are a rare thing these days
Saw this last night and it was garbage.
I was so excited to see it, and so let down, even halfway through.
Everyone else in the theater was also disappointed.
It closed out poorly, the construct and premise of the movie was so poor.
Cage has little screen time, at first the character presentation is great, but it wears thin quickly, especially when the dialogue escalates.
"Hail Satan!"
*Don't believe all these reviewers saying this movie is good, they are only doing it for likes.
I actually encourage you to go see this steamy turd and make your own conclusions, good luck.
Definitely NOT a masterpiece. Or even close to on the level of Silence of the Lambs. But I did enjoy it, nonetheless. I just felt the final reveal was a cheap cop out.
Perkins use of sound design, uneven shots, and natural light were impeccable. Dread inducing. Not Hollywood-scary, which I'm absolutely fine with. From the first frame, I don't think there was a moment - even with the gallows humor - that I didn't feel uncomfortable.
