You absolutely nailed the best part of this film, the use of empty space, and sound. As I was watching, I found myself like the character, getting lost in the mystery. There is one particular scene where she falls asleep on the floor with the crime scene photos all around her. I felt like that was the best image of the entire film! This is a solid review, and I highly recommend fans of this style cinema to go watch it!
The first half of the movie was so fire, but they flopped in the second half. I feel like their explanations for everything were a little shallow and I walked away pretty unsatisfied and with a lot more questions.
longlegs is a cool movie that feels interesting, looks and sounds great and has a ton of style. its also shallow and has A TON of unexplained details along with A TON of OVER explained details through exposition. Its a great movie that will leave you feeling creeped out, but you may also ask yourself "why...Why they do...uh..?" aswell.
I usually roll my eyes at all hyperbole on Twitter but I fell for it this time. My expectations are still high but I'm not expecting some horror masterpiece anymore.
I have great news for you,not only this film, but Twisters and Aliens Romulas are also getting great buzz from fans and critics, and of course Deadpool vs Wolverine.
That movie had an interesting premise but it really falls apart. Night House was made the same year and i think out of the two that movie was more underated for 2020 horror.

While I found the concept original, and the tone and performances effective, the script left a lot to be desired. I’d give it a five out of ten stars. It’s not terrible, but it doesn’t live up to the hype.
There’s nothing original about this movie. From the plot of an fbi agent finding a serial killer (Clarice sterling ), asking the killer to help find the actual killer and the interrogation style, Haníbal and Clarice to kebbler doing the best impression of buffalo bill , gay ish, flamboyant deranged psychopath. Meh. 6 out of 10 at best

I agree that the marketing has been lean but very targeted and effective. It's refreshing to see a film that doesn't just indiscriminately throw their entire budget at mass advertising.
Just coming here to hit the Thumbs Up and I'll be back to check out your review tomorrow after I've seen the movie! This is easily my most anticipated movie of the year and I have stayed away from everything that has to do with it besides the initial teaser trailer. I cannot wait for this!
It started storming heavily and the power went out in the middle of movie at my theater during the bed sheet reveal scene as soon as it was about to happen and some people thought it was oart of the movie and were creeped out 😅.
It was impactful because the scariness of it is from the evil it’s about. It’s not just the fear of dying it portrays, it’s the fear of the horror you’ll experience to the place after death it’s portraying. It really got me at the end with all the hidden satan silhouettes. So scary
I thought the crafting of the movie was nearly flawless and extremely magnetic. However, for me, the flaw was in the story itself and I am struggling a bit with the balancing of the grounded elements with the supernatural as I felt it was a bit of a stretch with the villain essentially being omnipotent. This will probably make my top 10 Horror list for the year, but not the top 5.
Incredibly well shot and edited movie. The characters beside Longlegs were all interesting and well acted. The atmosphere and sound design were pitch perfect. Ultimately though, the movie just left me feeling empty. Longlegs was just too weird of a character. He was always dialed up to 11 so, much like The Joker, it felt like it was a movie character rather than a creepy person who could actually exist in real life.
As a film student the first thing I noticed was the framing/negative space like you said. Lots of characters center in the frame, breaking cinematography “rules” left and right to create that tension
Sean, how do you think your mother would react to seeing Nicolas Cage in this movie? Seems like a role she’d love just as much as Cameron Poe in Con Air.
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout horror movies require less acting (Nick Cage is in my opinion, the worst actor ever, on par with his Face Off buddy John Travolta and Keanu Reeves ), so he chooses horror where he just needs to scream, run, yell, punch , more yelling etc. I cant bear to see Cage's face for even 1 second.

For me, it lived up to the hype. I never expected perfection, that's unobtainable. I was expecting something visceral, intriguing and creepy. I got all 3. And man...that last frame...will stick with me😮
Just got back from it. I enjoyed it. Especially that third act. Great vibe and cinematography as well as an eerie performance from Nic Cage. 8.5/10 for me. Your review of this film is performing pretty well also!
Just discovered your channel. Love it. I know you can’t really compare a series to a movie but True Detective Season 1 gives major terrorizing vibes. How does this measure up? So pumped to watch it tomorrow night!!!
Saw it yesterday. There is a little amount of gore. It's not centered around that. Maybe 2 jumpscares. It's a movie that does very well with creating anxiety and dread and a level of creepiness that ramps up as the film continues.
@@hidenname541I think he’s talking like slasher movie gore. Gore isn’t really something I’d associate with Se7en even though there are some relatively gruesome scenes given the nature of the story.
people have called this the scariest movie of all time; while i disagree, i think it's one of the most suspenseful ever. every doorframe, dark corner, etc leaves you biting your nails in suspense; the scene where she opens the letter towards the beginning in particular; that doorframe was my worst enemy 😭 great film very effective use of sound and some of the best camera work i've seen in ages
I think it will divide audiences. Who might expect a different picture. A fellow filmie whom I saw it with was bothered by Monroe’s one-note character, but I would argue that one of the big reveals suitably explains it. All the performances were top notch especially Kiernan Shipkas cameo.
I was finally able to watch it in my country and I didn't find scary. I missed her trying to cypher the code, Longlegs basically handed it over to her and I could have been okay with that IF it played more of a part on the movie, and we were able to see the other messages he left at the families houses. She just showed up at the chief’s office and told him “I was able to decipher everything and this was the common thing in all of them” I was baffled because everything so far has been trying to follow her investigation. Then they allude to a “cult” but that is never clear. They got together in the farm yes but what were they doing there that got them in that position in the first place? They were not the devil's worshippers because they didn't accept “the gift” and decided to commit murder than to “bow to satan”. If anything they were just choosing families from the same congregation to trick them into thinking the doll was form the church but that's about it. Some things were done right but in others the movie fell really short to my expectations.
I’m seeing this tomorrow night and am EXTREMELY excited!!!! I’m a huge fan of the horror genre; especially those that combine suspense, mystery, gore and supernatural elements.
@SeanChandlerTalksAbout I’m finally seeing this movie at my local theater with my dad tomorrow I have been wanting to for awhile but, there’s really no true time I have been able to see it until tomorrow at 2pm.
One thing I saw that I liked is they said by the end everything is explained with no unanswered questions. I don't mind filling in blanks or using imagination but I think that doing it that way will be a lot better.
At this point I'm more than baffled. Is there another movie with the same name? Almost all dialogues in the film made little sense. People were giving wacky answers to wacky questions for no obvious reasons. Almost all the characters except the chief cop acted like their from another planet. Longlegs looked and behaved like a hysterical person that had botched plastic surgery and was more funny than scary. My 15 year old son said that this was amongst the most boring films he's ever watched. And I'm with him.
If you’re expecting this film to be like the conjuring then you will be disappointed. Other than that the movie was ok i’d give it a 6.5/10 it’s interesting because this movie and the conjuring are both labeled as “horror/mystery” but this movie is nothing like the conjuring for it to be labeled as “horror” it’s more like “mystery/thriller” but everyone will have their own opinions. So if you like that category then i recommened it.
I just finished watching the pre screening in SF where Osgood Perkins was actually there for a live Q&A after the showing. Awesome experience. I do have to say... i was a little disappointed for some reason i did expect more from the movie.. Nicholas cages roll wasnt as creepy as i hoped he would be. it didnt give me that bone chilling creepiness that i was hoping to get.. Also for some reason i felt like it seemed a little forced.... a lot was jammed into a short film. people were comparing to silence of the lambs and im sorry they're just not even in the same category when it comes to story line and killer creepiness. i think buffalo bill is still more ominous and creepy than cages roll. i did like the film and would give it a solid 8-10 B+.. it just wasnt everything i hoped it to be.. it had a lot of potential i think it just fell short... maybe if it was more focused on actual serial killer without the paranormal aspect than it might have had a better chance to compare to silence of the lamb, and cages character couldve had more development. overall i think it was a good movie
I thought it was incredible. It definitely has a David Fincher feel to it. It had me nervous the whole time. It’s my favorite movie of the year so far.
I get it might be a great movie but aren’t they going on a tear on advertising, I really hope it’s as good because if something is over advertised it usually doesn’t live up to the hype
Glad I watched your review. I was going to avoid t because I thought this was another spider horror film 😂. I feel like there’s been a lot of spider horror this year for some reason. I might go check this out😊
Just watched this a few hours ago. Extremely well made horror film. I'm just sad that I watched this alone in a huge theatre in my place Malaysia. Movies like this don't do well here.
Saw it last night at the very first screening in my city, it was packed, the chick next to me was blowing her nose the entire time, and I think I got her cold…. Great. Movie was awesome though
It needed more , more grab, more bite …more escalation. It surprises me how so many directors just can’t feed off the dark vibe that is horror and suspense. Sure it wants to stand out on it own and it brings out your light but it certainly can let you down to the point you want to hide. I’m not gonna beat it up because the movie fine but, it just also could’ve been another in a collection for many to watch again and again. This sadly is not. Nicolas Cage was indeed a nice fit to his role.

I’m seeing this tomorrow night and am EXTREMELY excited!!!! I’m a huge fan of the horror genre; especially those that combine suspense, mystery, gore and supernatural elements.
I always thought Copycat was an underrated movie
Agreed! That’s a fantastic movie!! Harry Connick Jr. does an incredible job
Where can we watch that interview?
You can see the devil he's in the lil door window when Lee first gose to see her mom for the first time it's crazy
@SeanChandlerTalksAbout I’m finally seeing this movie at my local theater with my dad tomorrow I have been wanting to for awhile but, there’s really no true time I have been able to see it until tomorrow at 2pm.
Can’t wait to see his next film Momkey
Thank god it sounds like this movie has an idea and a vision. That what I was most concerned about
One thing I saw that I liked is they said by the end everything is explained with no unanswered questions.
Any award prospects ?
This was an incredible movie and very unsettling. Nick cage kills it. There’s a few things I wasn’t sold on, but this is a must see.
I can’t wait for Friday!!! Seeing it with my buddy, him and I are so excited 😄
I might go check this out😊
@@jeans4108 yeah it’s not a spider movie. Haha
Would you say this is a good movie to watch with friends or family like my dad ? - Sean
It's a serial killer film. So it's intense. But it doesn't like go into awkward sexual things which would be uncomfortable to watch with family.
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout cool , thanks !
Is it super gory and scary?
They do show one scene where it's pretty gory but after that not so much. And it's really not scary more of a thriller@@liasunshine7470
they did the same thing for dream scenario. It was so good for 3/4 of it and then they start to plot vomit and things just don’t make sense.
Just watched this a few hours ago. Extremely well made horror film. I'm just sad that I watched this alone in a huge theatre in my place Malaysia. Movies like this don't do well here.
The critics are full of crap. Not scary and ok story. It was filmed well but I think having Nicholas Cage in the film took away a lot of the threat.
I enjoyed it although I don't think the final 3rd paid off what was set up before. It felt really simple. But apart from that I enjoyed it
you could have interviewed him with the light on his face
Saw it last night at the very first screening in my city, it was packed, the chick next to me was blowing her nose the entire time, and I think I got her cold…. Great. Movie was awesome though
It was nice to see a trailer that didn't show everything like the recent Abigail.
Just saw this film. I go see a lot of horror movies in the theaters and none of them have really scared me. But this one did
I wish the movie gave us enough time to figure out the mystery along with Lee
It needed more , more grab, more bite …more escalation. It surprises me how so many directors just can’t feed off the dark vibe that is horror and suspense. Sure it wants to stand out on it own and it brings out your light but it certainly can let you down to the point you want to hide. I’m not gonna beat it up because the movie fine but, it just also could’ve been another in a collection for many to watch again and again. This sadly is not. Nicolas Cage was indeed a nice fit to his role.
We loved it! Constant sense of dread and unease. It made me feel like I made a pact with the devil and now I’m scared 😱 😂
Went to watch it last night. Definitely gave me Silence of the Lambs vibes. Sooo good
Can't wait to see this tomorrow 😎Good review!
Even the director in this interview gave me the creeps!
He's the son of Norman Bates lol
Oz should direct
A Nightmare On Elm St.
With most of same cast as Longlegs
Please.
Cannot wait to see this friday
Just watched the movie in a fan event today and came in blind: I was shook to the core
That’s the best way to see a film!
It was good, but not that good
@@Menstral and i respect your opinion 🫡
I loved longlegs it exceeded the hype for me I was terrified the whole runtime, I really like crime thrillers like this and Nic Cage is top tier here
Can't wait to see this movie and OH MY GOD YOUR SHIRT ❤❤❤
Couldn’t agree more with this review
